I have many fond memories at Frontierland because it is one of the original themed lands at Disneyland. In my youth, we rode Big Thunder Mountain Railroad multiple times and used up all of our quarters at the shooting gallery. I still hit the Frontierland Shootin' Arcade whenever I am here to relive those fun memories that I had with my buddies when we were kids. Frontierland was designed to resemble the American frontier of the 19th century. There are red rock buttes, saloons, cowboys and pioneers. The Rivers of America is home to the Mark Twain Riverboat and Sailing Ship Columbia. It is also home to the Davy Crockett's Explorer Canoes and the Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island. The night show Fantasmic! takes place in the late evening on the Rivers of America. Now that I am older, I have been checking out the Disney dining scene. Every time I come to Disneyland, I book a reservation at a restaurant that I have not been to before. Recently I grabbed breakfast at the River Belle Terrace in Frontierland. It has been around for many years. My breakfast included a ticket for front row seating at the Fantasmic! show. Golden Horseshoe Saloon is also a popular longtime dining establishment here at Frontierland. read more

Frontierland is an opening-day land and has themes of the American Wild West, frontier towns, and wilderness. It's like out of a page of a Western film with rock formations that remind me of Utah and Arizona. The main attraction here is Big Thunder Mountain Railroad with its giant rock formations towering over the land. There is a version at Disney World that's much larger. read more

Frontierland, home of the Mark Twain Riverboat! This relaxing 14 minute ride is for all ages! You'll make your way around Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island with a beautiful view of the water! And I cannot forget to mention Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, this classic roller coaster is fun and fast! I would recommend visiting this fun area located inside Disneyland! Frontierland is great area in Disneyland! It's one of the original areas that opened with Disneyland! There are a variety of rides located in Frontierland! Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is one of my family's favorite rides. It's a mine train ride, that goes through canyons and abandoned mines. There aren't any big drops, but the ride does go fast! It does have some high speed turns! The typical wait time is between 20-40 minutes for Big Thunder Mountain. There is a lightning lane for this ride though! Another major attraction in the area is Mark Twain's Riverboat. I try to ride the Riverboat at least one time during every Disneyland visit. The Riverboat takes you through a journey on the Rivers of America and the surrounding attraction. There are a variety of different levels where you can find open seating on Mark Twain's Riverboat! You can also explore Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island in Frontierland. You can access the island by a raft. On the island, you'll be able to explore caves and secret hideouts! There are even some suspension bridges! There is some live entertainment at Frontierland. If you visit the Golden Horseshoe, there is live music inside the restaurant. Last time I visited, there was a cast member playing the piano! It was so much fun! Dining options include the following at Frontierland The Golden Horseshoe: This is a must visit! It offers meals like chicken tenders and French Fries, or options like the Fish and chips. There is also some ice cream options at the Golden Horseshoe. This is one of my favorite places to stop at during the summer! There are a lot of table seats available and the restaurant has AC! Rancho Del Zocalo: This restaurant offers a wide range of burritos, tacos, and enchiladas. There is seating inside the restaurant, and restrooms are right next to Rancho Del Zocalo! Westward Ho: Turkey legs!!! You can also get corn dogs from Westward Ho! Fantasmic! is located at Frontierland. There are dining packages available for the show too if you eat at certain restaurants! During the evening hours, the Rivers of America transforms for the Fantasmic! show. There are lots of floats, lights, and water effects for the show! This is a must see show at Disneyland! There's not too many stores at Frontierland to shop at, however, this area has a lot of rides and places to eat! read more

While entering Frontierland, we decided to check out the Jungle Cruise, which is always exciting for little kids and adults alike. The jokes can be a little hokey, but as I understand scripted especially for this adventure. The animatronics is excellent and moves well with the background. Frontierland was a fun place to go and like every other land in the park transition to an from neighboring sections really well. This area you will find a few attractions and a lot of other things to do including eateries. The most notable attraction here is Big Thunder Mountain another is the Mark Twain Riverboat. Definitely do Big Thunder Mountain, you will not regret it. Also take in the scenery around you as you will feel transported to the frontier. The eateries are always busy. A must check here are the places to shop. They have a ton of stores to browse through. But, if you are like me, you didn't come to Disney to shop. read more

Frontierland is a section of Disneyland patterned after the old west. At one time it was a popular place to get the coonskin caps made famous by the Davy Crockett series starring Fess Parker. "The Ballad of Davy Crockett" is no longer heard here but you still get a feel for the old place. It still offers the Davy Crockett explorer canoes which I would have loved to have tried but didn't get the opportunity. You can take a raft over to Tom Sawyer Island and see the fort as well as the pirates lair,and children's play area. The show "Fantasmic" would normally be set off here but with an earlier this year malfuction with Malificent the dragon, the reopening of that production has been delayed until the spring of 2024 at the earliest. Frontierland also is the home of Big Thunder Mountain RR, the Mark Twain riverboat, and the golden horseshoe (all reviewed separately). You can also see the sailing ship Columbia docked here. Check out the sign at the entrance to Frontierland to learn about how forts were built. Frontierland also host a shooting gallery, a pin trading shop, an expansive gift shop along with other restaurants and eateries. The Frontierland gift shop is one of the few places where they will "hold" your purchases you make in the park during the day provided you come back to claim them when you are done with your daily visit. It's great know they have this service in various parts of the park. The Magic Kingdom counterpart-Disneyland has the edge here. Splash Mountain closed earlier this year in Frontierland in the Magic Kingdom to be rethemed as Tiana's bayou adventure. That was a big loss to a cool water ride. You can still board the train in Frontierland. They offer Big Thunder Mountain RR,Tom Sawyer Island, the shooting gallery, the pin trading post, a gift shop and a shortened version of the Country Bear jamboree. The Liberty square riverboat and the Diamond horseshoe are located in Liberty Square. The Magic Kingdom's daily parade normally starts in Frontierland and works its way to Main St. In Disneyland that parade starts in Fantasyland near Small World and works its way to Main St. All in all I enjoy visiting Frontierland as Walt Disney originally imagined it. Frontierland, themed after the American West contains: -Big Thunder Mountain Railroad -Frontierland Shooting Arcade -Mark Twain Riverboat -Tom Sawyer's Island -Sailing Ship Columbia -Fantasmic (currently closed due to COVID) -The Golden Horseshoe -Rancho del Zocalo -Riverbelle Terrace -Stagedoor Cafe During Halloween season, you HAVE TO go take pics of the Halloween tree. It's in front of the stores next to the Golden Horseshoe. There's some orange/yellow lights and Jack-o-Lanterns hanging off of it. Super cute. There's also some Halloween decor next to the shops and I believe at the entrance is a meeting place for pin traders. A must is Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Not a super intense rollercoaster, I'd rank it below Space Mountain in terms of intensity but higher than Matterhorn Bobsleds in enjoyment. It's nice to watch the boats go by while enjoying a meal or riding the ships when you just need to chill. As for food, Rancho doesn't have mobile order unfortunately and I'm generally not very interested in the other eateries in this land. BUT sometimes the churro cart there has limited churros, love the Coco churro with Abuelita hot chocolate, chocolate dip back then. I heard the Golden Horseshoe is haunted very interestingly enough and that people have died in the lake around Tom Sawyer's Island (not very interesting for me to go since it takes time to get there and get back and closes at dusk). read more

Cute and fun homage to the early settler part of the states. Western themed set with tons of references and architecture. The shooting range is 0.50 a pop but with no one to man the area its easy for defective parts to be overseen. The gun I used at the range had a stuck trigger which means 0.50 lost. Ah thats okay -- tomorrow haha. Bought some leather goods and sheriff-themed tokens in this part. Fun to look and browse at least once if youre a first timer! read more

Frontierland is one of my favorite areas at Disneyland, next to Tomorrowland. Mainly due to the pin depo that seems to always be have a line around the door when there are new pin releases. If you're not into pins, and don't love the shooting game or the shopping, you might find Frontierland to be a bit on the dull side. Back in the late 2000's they had a station here where you could get your name engraved on a pin or on a leather bracelet. I still have my pin and always get a ton of compliments on it when I'm at Disneyland. I'd love it they brought it back so I could get one for my DH. That being said, it's pretty easy to breeze through Frontierland and only stop in to use the bathroom. But if you have the time, you should definitely drop into the pin depo and take a crack at the shooting game. read more

Frontierland is a cool area in Disneyland, but I feel like there is not a lot happening here, and there needs to be more thrill. Frontierland looks like the Wild West, and has a few stores, a couple eating places, and a few things to do, but for me it's pretty much just a place to walkthrough. Sometimes the cowboys, sheriffs, and people themed to the Wild West do have a spat outside as entertainment, which is something interesting to watch, but otherwise this land is kind of quiet and probably the most dull. read more

I think out of all the parts of Disneyland, this is the least interesting and least fun. There is not much to see. Its small and there are basically a bunch of stores with storefront looking like midwest. We didn't go in any rides here. We did ride the Mark Twain but not sure if that is considered in New Orleans or Frontierland. New Orleans and Frontierland is located side by side to each other. As the product of two bonafide Hippies, we didn't have toy guns as kids. In fact, if my five younger brothers and I wanted to play cops, Army, or a game we simply called "guns," we were forced to find branches, woodpile kindling, or construction detritus from the alley behind our house like old pipes or discarded vacuum cleaner tubes to have anything resembling a firearm. For hours, we'd run around the neighborhood, in and out of peoples' yards and garages, sort of a combination of hide 'n' seek and real life Call of Duty. Naturally, when our family would visit Disneyland, we invariably passed this shooting range, watching all those "lucky kids" plunking quarters into the machines, firing rifles at God-knows-what... We were not really allowed to even approach the range to see what was happening in there. Years later--maybe a high school group date?-- I happened by the Shooting gallery, a certain feeling of autonomy growing as I noted a few quarters jingling in my pocket. With trepidation, I stepped onto the aged wooden deck, hearing the cornball shooting noises of other marksmen pinching off fake shots of red light at small red targets. Maybe it was my mom and dad sending me an ESP message, maybe it was all those years in Boy Scouts, maybe it was just wanting to save my quarters for Churros. Whatever the case, I couldn't see the consummate joy I had imagined in shooting fake bullets at fake crows and fake tombstones to hear them make equally fake noises. I mean, there's no good reason to shoot a rattlesnake, kids. Seriously. Over the years, I've learned to shoot, and enjoy the occasional trip to the range with decidedly real guns and equally real ammunition. Frontier land harkens to a time that is long gone, when "Disneyland" was a television show, not an amusement park (look it up.) When the park opened, Frontierland was one of the original "lands." The world was still feeling the effects of WWII, and boys' heroes were legends like Davey Crockett and the Lone Ranger. The nostalgia must be thick for those senior citizens ambling through Frontierland, remembering their youth and a different time and place. For the rest of us, this shooting gallery has a bit of camp value or maybe a distant memory of being a kid with a mad case of the FOMS (that's the "Fear of Missing Something, Mildred)... But how this spot wasn't top of the list to burn down and replace with a Mos Eisley Cantina blaster shootout attraction with Greedo and Solo is beyond me. Welcome to one of many Disneyland's rich history at Frontierland. Located within Disneyland and properly placed next to Adventureland, you will find one of the few themed lands called, Frontierland. Frontierland is rich in history. For a brief moment through the entrance, you are sent back in time to one of the Forts headed to the undiscovered part of America. Only to realize, you are there to ride some of Disneyland's roller coaster train and watch a particular night time show called, Fantasmic. There are really three four things to do at Frontierland. Some of you Yelpers may or may not agree. There is really two rides without crossing paths to Adventureland. You can ride the Mark Twain Riverboat or Saling Ship Columbia and go around Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island. You can ride the World Famous Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. During special holidays, you can grab the Holiday Characters at Big Thunder Ranch. You can see the characters in their season attire from Easter to Christmas. If you want to relax a little bit, you can go to the Frontierland Shootin' Arcade. If you are at Disneyland for the whole day, you can take a view of the world famous Fantamic Show. Frontierland may be one of the smallest areas versus Adventureland, Tomorrowland, Fantasyland and etc. It adds historic value to Disneyland. The Petrified Tree that you see in Frontierland...Guess how old that is? If you guess a couple hundred years old. You are so far from the answer. Mrs. Disney gave this present to Disneyland. It is estimated to be 55-70 Million years old. This is the OLDEST item at Disneyland. For this who frequent, Disneyland, stop by the Petrified Tree and imagine what 50-70 millions would be like. You get to enter here through a large wooden gate. Not surprisingly, the theme is the American frontier. The rides here include Big Mountain Thunder Railroad and the steamboat ride. The uncharted frontier of this location is the path that leads to Fantasyland directly from here. It goes around the Big Mountain Thunder Railroad, so it's a really long walk compared to just going through the castle from the center of the park. The best view that comes to mind is seeing it from the direction of the lake to the entrance. All I see is the lake when I'm going the other way. read more

I was having a stellar day in Astro Blasters, so it seemed like a great time to use a "real" gun for the first time in 30 years of Disneyland visits (Mom, correct me if Dad ever let me use the shooting range). Put 50 cents in a slot, use a toy rifle.You can keep it on the stand to help your rifle stay steady, or pick it up to change your aim. The cord attached to the rifle makes using it on its own unwieldy, particularly since the gun is big (I'd think this would be completely impossible for little kids). Point at poorly-lit Western-themed targets (tombstones, cacti, etc.) with LED spots for aiming. Did you hit your target? Per Disneyland's website, "When you successfully hit a target, you'll be rewarded with entertaining sounds and animations." It was still unclear and I remained unentertained, and there's nothing to indicate how many total targets you hit; no score appears, tally, etc. There's also no timer, so all of a sudden your gun stops making noises when you pull the trigger and you figure that ok, you're done. The old west part of Disneyland that has Big Thunder Mountain, Big Thunder BBQ, the shooting gallery, and a few shops. Over the years things have changed. The candy shop is now a pin trading shop, and the wooden Indian is now gonzo. Rancho del Zocalo was named something else which I've long since forgotten, but still serves the same Mexican cuisine. Tinkerbell also ends her flight in Frontierland. You can see the tower where the cables end as your going up the hill while on Big Thunder Mtn. Look to your right. read more

If Buzz Lightyear is too unstationary and free for you, then you'll love the shooting gallery. Big Thunder is my favorite coaster in the park (now that I don't fit in the new Matterhorn buckets). Keel Boats is the most underrated ride, it's the Casey Jr Circus Train of Frontierland. And I love resting my feet on the dependably lame Mark Twain, a giant steam powered glorified bench that circles the island. Watch for stray cats, which my friend thought were animatronic until he saw one licking his b-hole. (the cat's b-hole, not his). read more
