In Frontierland you're typically here for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad coaster or Tiana's Bayou. However, don't pass up the country Bear jamboree. We also found a fantastic quick service, Pecos Bill. The nachos were fantastic and filling. If you come here more often and want to take some things slow, Tom Sawyer Island is also part of this western experience. Frontierland in Magic Kingdom is so much fun! It has multiple attractions in the themed area. It's themed based on the American Old West with rustic wooden storefronts and boardwalks. Recently, the riverboat was removed and the Rivers of America for the new addition of the Cars themed area. The land's most popular attractions include the following: Big Thunder Mountain: This is a runaway mine train coaster that plunges through red rock canyons, abandoned tunnels, and a mining town. The typical standby wait time averages between 30-45 minutes for this ride. It does accept lightning lane though! Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Lightning lane is accepted on this ride. It was recently reimaged to Tiana's Bayou Adventure. It is a water ride, and you will get wet! Even wearing a rain jacket, I got soaked! Standby wait times during the summer can get lengthy, up to an hour! Country Bear Jamboree: This show is great! I watch it every time I come to Disney World. The wait time is minimal. It's a musical show highlighting a lot of Disney themed movie songs, like Zootopia and a few other Country Bear Jamboree classics. There are a lot of shops and dining spots inside Frontierland. Those include Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn, Westward Ho, Golden Oak Outpost, Frontier Trading Post, and more! Some of my favorite snack places are at Westward Ho and Golden Oak Outpost. Their menu items change seasonally! You'll find Frontierland entrance from Main Street! This is a must visit and would recommend experiencing all of the rides/attractions while visiting Magic Kingdom! read more

Comparing Frontierland to the other "themed lands" at Magic Kingdom, it's okay. For one, it's small. On top of that, the only two rides it offers both have dips/drops, which I'm not a fan of. So, you can see why I'm giving it only three stars. The aforementioned rides are Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Tiana's Bayou Adventure, which is Splash Mountain rethemed after The Princess and the Frog (2009). I remember riding Splash Mountain at Disneyland in California as a kid back in 1989-1990, but I'm not sure if I ever rode the version here in Florida. For the record, my wife likes Tiana's Bayou Adventure and has been on it 2-3 times in the last 2-3 years. During my recent revisit to Frontierland as an adult, I did enjoy the Country Bear Musical Jamboree. Check out my review on Yelp for that attraction for my thoughts on that, but in a nutshell, I recommend it. It's a silly, fun, good time. In general, I do like the old Western theme of Frontierland. It's just not one of the more extensive areas at Magic Kingdom or any of the parks at Disney World. Frontierland is one of the sections in the Magic Kingdom modeled after Disneyland in California. Originally a tribute to Davy Crockett, you used to be able to purchase the coon skin caps in their stores back in the day. Now it is a an area taking you back to the days of the Old west and the deep south. The headliner attraction here is Splash Mountain, a water flume ride based on the characters in the movie "Song of the South." Splash mountain is set to close and be rethemed to the Princess and the Frog movie. It will be called "Tiana's bayou adventure" set to reopen late in 2023 or in 2024. Lightning lane is highly recommended for this attraction. Frontierland also is home to the Country Bear jamboree, a mini ho down featuring some of those luvvable bears including "Big Al." You can board a raft over to Tom Sawyer island which is more of an adventure park for kids. You can see the unfinished "whitewashed fence" from the shore where kids can pick up a brush and try to paint it. There is also a small snack shop over there. Frontierland also is a stop along the Walt Disney World RR which currently isn't in operation. When it is, I'd recommend it as a faster means to get closer to Tomorrowland since it has a stop near there. You can also ride Big thunder mountain railroad which is a runaway train ride. It's a fairly fast ride but not too intense. They even have a shooting gallery here. Dining opportunities include the Diamond Horseshoe-(same menu as Liberty Tree Tavern), Pecos Bill Tall Tales café, Golden oak outpost, Westward Ho, and of course those popular turkey legs. The Frontierland trading post is mostly a pin shop. There's also the Prairie outpost and supply. Perhaps one of the best things I like about Frontierland is that the parade routes and any other special mini parades like Mickey's 50th celebration cavalcade start here and then work their way over to Main St. Main St tends to get exceptionally crowded during the parades since many people want to get a picture with the Cinderella castle in the background if possible. There are still crowds here but I usually find I have a better vantagepoint of seeing the parade if I hang out in Frontierland or Liberty Square adjoining it. Another nice thing about Frontierland is that there are at least two shortcuts you can take to get you to Adventureland if you want to avoid walking the distance all the way to the back of it. One is a connecting restroom area for both lands and the other is a type of boardwalk shortcut. Check them out in you find yourself in Frontierland. Note a snippet of the "ballad of Davy Crockett" is still sung at the Country Bear jamboree. read more

Honestly, I equate a lot of my favorite parts in Disney with the places that provide shade. This is one of them. There's a huge eating area with hundreds of table in the shade. It's a great haven when you need a break to stop sweating. The daily parade also goes through this area, so doubling shade with entertainment is always great. My favorite roller coaster, Big Thunder Mountain is also located back here, along with Splash Mountain. read more

Frontierland could be great in the ambiance department, but it's so crazy full with people because of Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. I really wish they did more in terms of entertainment and recreating the wild west, but even Disneyland is scaling back their own Frontierland to make room for Star Wars. I'm also curious how the insanely busy mine ride in Fantasyland doesn't detract from Fantasyland. Come to think of it, I have no idea where the queue even was. Splash Mountain wasn't in the cards this trip....had too many valuables that couldn't get wet. Who would want to burn off extra energy at Disney? I know I don't need to, but I can imagine a young kid being pumped up on adrenaline and needing somewhere to run around. You can find the Turkey Leg Cart along the dock path. I don't know if it's the Golden Oak Outpost or Westward Ho! It's not something I regularly get - heck, I've only had it once - but YOLO, right? Like other areas in the park, there are many other 'activities' and shopping options along your way. Frontierland is a pretty fun section of Disney World's Magic Kingdom. It's not my #1 favorite (I think Tomorrowland and Fantasyland are my favorites), but it's still a fun part of the park to check out. My fiance and I checked out the following attractions: -Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (make sure to visit this attraction early in the morning or get a fast pass for it to avoid the long lines) -Country Bear Jamboree show (very fun!) -Splash Mountain (one of my favorite rides at Disney - make sure to get a fast pass or go late / early in the day to avoid the long lines) -Tom Sawyer Island (we didn't check out the island itself, but we did go on the river boat cruise around it, which was a ton of fun, albeit laden with mosquitos!) Frontierland has some pretty amazing attractions and is definitely worth a visit if you're in Magic Kingdom anyway!
