I now have two favorite gelato places in the US--unfortunately, they're each 1-2 plane rides away. I went to Frost Gelato last weekend during a trip to Tucson with friends. One of my friends, the self-proclaimed "indoorsy" Bill C., was not thrilled that our afternoon had been devoted to hiking Sabino Canyon (which was beautiful, by the way). Four of us finished the hike about 30-40 minutes ahead the remaining 3, who had lingered to swim in the falls. Frost Gelato made for the perfect stop as we waited for our friends to finish. I recommend the affogato. Authentic affogatos (affogati?) are composed of an espresso shot poured over a tiny little scoop of vanilla gelato. I love real Italian affogatos, but I much prefer the more substantial American version served by Frost. For about the same price as a medium, you can get TWO flavors of gelato and chocolate sauce covered in a generous serving of espresso and topped with whipped cream. (Confession: the affogato is so good that just writing about it gave me such an uncontrollable chocolate craving that I had to go into my cupboards to get a few dark chocolate covered almonds from Sprouts in order to complete this review). And thus the day was saved. Bill's annoyance with nature disappeared, and gelato triumphed again. read more

What's not to love I mean really frozen goodness in EVERY different flavor! I wonder how many you can taste before they kick you out? But one day I'll try them all.... If I can stray away from the chai one... Add some cappuccino in and it's like a frozen dirty chai! On top of having every flavor under the sun beautifully arranged. The place is so clean! Which is not what I would expect from a ice cream joint! No sticky anywhere it was great! The out side tables are surrounded by misters, which cool you off and look neat! When your pulling in, it looks like the mist floating off when you open the freezer. I was entertained by if being a ice cream shop. But as much fun as it was hanging out enjoying our treats, I have seen many ice cream joints in my day.. But none did the cashier bring a tray of water cups out and offer it to all the patrons. I. LOVE. GELATO(& Frost). My first gelato experience was at a Frost... not this location but I fell in love with the product. Being an "east-sider", when this location opened up, I was here weekly. It's that good. Now, I have come here whenever I am in town... the quality of the gelato has not changed, neither has the ambience of the store. All the enticing flavors, with fruit, chocolate, and other goodies glare at me through the spotless glass case... all saying "pick me, pick me". I sample away then pick something I didn't sample... Perfectly sized (3 to chose from), doesn't melt right away, and the flavors (cream or fruit based) are amazing! read more

Okay, I've read so many reviews on FROST already. I met the Italian who makes it ... who came from Italy, I've seen the Presentation and I paid the bill. Its cheaper than DQ ...... its better for you ..... its a local UofA graduate ..... it feels like a Million Dollars ..... why would anyone say anything bad about this place? My review is simple, go try it for yourself .... go meet the owner ..... have something great .... then generate your literary masterpiece. This was our first visit, I've been meaning to try this place for the last three years but being the sweet freak I am I avoided it with purpose. We decided to go for it this time and I am so crazy impressed I will never think of ice cream in the same way again. First of all the staff are so fun! We came in about 6:30 or and found two gents and a woman working the line. Immediately they offered suggestions and tasting but more so we started jokin around and found they had a great sense of human and in general seem to really enjoy where they work. The gelato was simply amazing, melt in your mouth with so much flavor. Second best right below Mario Batelli's restaurant in NYC. Hubby has the cheesecake/caramel and I had the sea salt caramel/butter cookie. It tasted just like the cookie and the sea salt caramel, there are diff caramel options there, was more like butterscotch Just amazing! read more

Frost is worth all 5 stars! I had driven by Frost so many times as I play soccer frequently at Udall Park. I finally made my way in and as impressed with the overal appeal of the store. The case that they display all their selections is over the top but beautiful. I couldn't take my eyes off of everything and wanted to try everything. Well I stuck to my favs and had a Banana Chocolate combination and it was so good! The kids really loved it as well. Its also affordable and the kids that work here are so friendly and helpful! Absolutely delicious! The Gelato is incredible. The flavor selection is very large. My favorite so far is the Pistachio. You don't have to settle for one flavor though. You can split your order in two and get half of one flavor and half of another. The store is incredibly clean and the service is fantastic. They have seating inside and outside on the patio. I live 40 minutes away from Frost Gelato and will make the trip into town just to enjoy their delicious gelato. read more

First time here, but not my last. Tried a scoop of pistachio and one of coconut. The coconut was creamy with lots of fresh pieces of coconut. My husband had one of the flavors of the month, Toasted Coconut Creme Brulee. Also delicious. The staff were masked, the tables spaced out to eat inside or at the outside patio as well. Yum Yum Yum! Frost is so yum! My sister and I decided to stop in after dinner and Frost did not disappoint! The shop is clean clean clean and the décor has a light and airy feel. There's a lot of polished silver and different shades of blue. There are tables inside as well as tables with umbrellas outside which makes for great outdoor seating. After sampling a few different flavors, I decided on the Black Cherry and Heather had the Pistachio. Both flavors were rich and creamy and tasted delicious! Mine had whole fresh cherries and Heather's had whole pistachios! Yummy! The young men behind the counter were extremely personable and friendly. The owner was even behind the counter and was totally friendly. Not sure how the conversation even started but we chatted a bit and he is super nice. It's great to see an owner active in his business. Note - Frost has 3 locations, Casas Adobes, La Encantada, and Tanque Verde/Sabino Canyon. This is a great way to end a date night. There are at least 20 different flavors and you can sample them. Ive had a few different flavors and they've all been really delicious. If you get a medium size, you can get two flavors. I tried a pumpkin and cinnamon mix and it was the best. There was peanut butter flavor that was better than any other peanut butter ice cream I've ever had. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The crew is hit and miss. Every option is packed with flavor and it's hard to choose just 1 or 2, depending on the size you choose. The peanut butter crunch is amazing and the Pineapple tastes like Dole Whip. The salted Carmel is decadent. The strawberry champagne is refreshing. They have a couple of flavors that they change each month and then they have their staples that are present year round. We stopped off at this Frost, my first ever visit to this one. The number of flavors is overwhelming in a good way! The ingredients for these Gelatos come over from Italy, and it tastes fresh and incredible in a way that lingers in my tastebuds for hours after. I enjoyed large cup with three flavors- banana (the best!) rum raisin (sadly, no raisins!) and a yummy chocolate mint. There's just so much to see and try. I liked that the staff brought out cups of water for everyone on the patio who were enjoying their gelatos. Great flavors and wide selection. All of it was so good that it was difficult to choose the flavors I wanted to get. Came down here this past Saturday after hiking up at Mt Lemmon for most of the early afternoon. As mentioned before, they have a wide variety of selections and the workers were nice enough to let me have samples of all the flavors that interested me. After difficult deliberation I ended up getting the dark chocolate and the tiramisu. The dark chocolate is on point. It is really dark, just the way I like it. The texture was creamy and incredibly chocolaty with little chips of chocolate in there to shake things up. The tiramisu was definitely different from other tiramisu flavored things I have had before. It leans greatly on the buttery/creamy side and it worked really well for me. I would definitely get this flavor again. Other flavors I would recommend: - Amaretto, incredibly almondy - Hazelnut chocolate, leans on the hazelnut more than the chocolate I will be back to try the other flavors for sure! read more

As soon as you walk in the employees are luring you to the display case to sample as many gelato flavors as you'd like. Stracciatella? Yes. Gianduia? Don't stop. Sea Salt Caramel? You can have my second born. Well, not really. I will say the choices here are staggering, I've not met a flavor I didn't like (my fiance concurs), and the creamy flavors are true to their name. Lower fat than ice cream without sacrificing taste. However, a word of caution, diabetics beware. The sugar content of a Frost Gelato compared to an equivalent size of a Breyer's ice cream is roughly double (24.5g of sugar in Sea Salt Caramel vs. Breyer's Salted Caramel at 13 grams). I'd recommend steering towards the no sugar added or factor in the sugar content for your needs. And the nutritional content online for their store only lists generics with no list of ingredients, so if you have allergies - ask prior to purchase. Otherwise, enjoy - it's a great way to beat the Tucson heat and savor a luscious treat in their lovely store (clean bathrooms too!). read more

Holy moly, it's been a long workweek! As such, I decided to go for a mid-week drive/treat and have heard great things about Frost Gelato, so I decided to go check it out. I ordered the Bellini, which was very good (w/actual champagne). The sizes can kind of deceive you because I ordered a medium which in my opinion was more than enough for 1 person. With that 'lil spoon and the denseness of the treat, I think a small would be plenty. I look forward to returning one day! read more

I've been going to the Frost Gilbert location for years and I just love it. We were in Tucson in our way back from Mount Lemmon and stopped at the Tucson location. The Gelato is awesome at every location! We got our usual: two scoops dark chocolate and pistachio. They always give us pieces of the dark chocolate too. I've tried the hot chocolate (tastes like heaven), the shakes (oh so good!) and the coffee (coffee and gelato how can you go wrong?). Love the different flavors. My daughter is lactose sensitive and can eat almost any flavor (in moderation) without any stomache ache afterwards. Manager needs to work in customer service skills with the crew at the Tanque Verde Location! No welcome, felt like I was continuously interrupting their conversation trying to get my orders made. My daughter and I received a lot of eye rolling and looks as we attempted to place 6 orders to go. We clearly stated multiple times as we gave a large order to go but they asked each time we placed a order is this for here? We were the only customers at the time but they had a difficult time getting the size and order correct after we indicated what we wanted. When we asked about the possibility of an ice pack, which has been offered to us at another location, they seemed confused and uncertain about it. They finally offered to make us one but they were having a difficult time getting it together for us, so finally we just said never mind. This location is closest to my house but the service and training for the employees needs to be consistent. We have always had great, friendly service at the La Encantada and the Casa Adobes location. read more
