I have had several experiences with Frosted by Darla. The first time was a few years ago when my niece ordered cupcakes as a surprise for my birthday and they were amazing! Fast forward to March 2021 and I needed to purchase a birthday cake for a friend. Darla's is closed Sunday and Monday. And of course I thought to order the cake Monday for a Wednesday celebration. But not to worry! If you find yourself in the same situation send her a message on her website, frostedbydarla.com. I submitted an online contact message and Darla called within two hours of hitting send;) Darla and I talked roughly 10-15 minutes. She gave me some great suggestions and I went with a 10 inch chocolate cake with buttercream chocolate frosting. I thought I needed a 10 inch because I was serving 13 people. Her cakes are four inches thick so I could have went with an eight inch lol. I let her know I needed to pick up the cake Wednesday at 5:45 PM as I needed to arrive at the venue at 6:30. I was able to pay for the cake over the phone and received a text message receipt. When I picked up the cake Wednesday it was sitting on a little table in front of the counter. I liked the contactless pick up process! Now to the cake. It was a huge hit with the birthday boy and everyone that tasted it! All my friends wanted to know where I purchased this marvellous cake. The cake was oh so moist and the icing was epic. Sweet but not over the top rich. Perfection;))))) Not to mention the icing detail made it look like a piece of art. I was recently given some cake pops from Frosted by Darla and stopped by their storefront to pick them up. It's a small location but absolutely filled with treats! They have cakes (slices and whole) and other treats in addition to the cake pops. All the flavors were absolutely delicious (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and red velvet). Yum! read more

I ended up at Frosted by Darla as a last resort as my original plan for cupcakes to take to an event didn't work out. I'd passed the "cupcakes" sign many times on Beach Blvd in the past but I'd never stopped in to check the place out. As I walked in, I was warmly greeted by Darla. Although she kept calling me "sweetie", which was a little off putting, she really did try to deliver excellent customer service. She informed me that she had cupcakes - a dozen for $30 - and cake pops - a dozen for $24. I ended up getting a mixed dozen of cake pops and I added a banana pudding pop because...why not...and I opened it and ate it right there at the register. Unfortunately, despite my enthusiasm about it, the banana pudding pop wasn't as good as it looked. I'd mistaken the icing for whipped cream, which in my opinion would've been better as the firmness of the icing didn't work well with the unset pudding. And the pudding was pretty one note. It didn't remind me of the great banana pudding deliciousness that I grew up on. But, the cake pops were really excellent! They were just a little firm on the outside with the fondant and extremely moist and flavorful on the inside. Nicely decorated and packaged, they're a great gift or party favor. Darla has lots of flavors and she can recommend the more popular ones, such as german chocolate, peanut butter, and red velvet cake. Although there will be no more pudding pops in my future, I'll definitely head back over there for more cake pops and I'd like to try the cupcakes as well. read more

I searched "birthday cakes near me" and found Frosted by Darla with great reviews. I was hesitant to place an order over the phone but once I spoke with Darla I found what I was looking for and within the price range which made me feel at ease knowing that portion of the celebration was going to be a hit. These cake pops were made for my daughters 2nd Birthday. They were by far the best cake pops we've had and they turned out so cute! Frosted by Darla is a cute little dessert shop located off of beach Blvd next door to Hana Yori. Darla's offers cupcakes, cakes, cake pops, mini cheesecakes and more. To date, I have been to Darla's twice and have tried the cupcakes which were delicious, the cake pops which are phenomenal, and the mini cheesecakes which are little bites of heaven. Decadent cakes! The lemon cake was nice and moist, with a tasty lemon curd center and butter cream frosting. The coconut layer cake was equally as delicious. Stopped by after dinner next door, and was greeted warmly by the owner who gladly helped us select some treats for the road. We got 6 flavors of cupcakes, and a whoopie cookie. I was not expecting them to be as delicious as they were. Oh my goodness! Darla is certainly talented. The flavor of each treat really stood out. My personal favorite was the wedding cake cupcake. Such a yummy cupcake a cake pop! I got the cookies and cream cupcake and my husband got the salted caramel cake pop. The frosting wasn't overly sweet and the cake was very nice and moist with a very good cookies and cream flavor. The caramel cake pop was sooo good too, had a maple taste to it that was awesome. We recently had Darla make our cupcakes and cake Pops for our baby shower and she did an amazing job. They were adorable and tasted amazing! The chocolate cupcakes were the best that I have ever had and all the guests raved about them she even went out of her way to incorporate our theme of white and gold giraffes into them. I don't do reviews, but after visiting this place, I felt the need to. It's a tiny shop with tons of variety. The place is cute, clean and Darla is very friendly. As for the cake pops, they were awesome!! I'm not much of a cake person, and wasn't expecting to like these that much but I am thoroughly impressed. We got six cake pops to try some various flavors. So far we ate the strawberry and chocolate chip cookie dough. Both were delicious. I'm happy I stopped in. I'll be ordering these in the future for birthdays and office treats. I found "Frosted by Darla" doing a Google search from San Diego, CA. She was both pleasant and accommodating. I placed an order several weeks ago to be delivered on Monday, June 13th, my daughter's birthday. She took all the information, and we even chatted about the fact that she wasn't open on Mondays but that she would deliver the items to my daughter's office on Monday (for which I happily paid a $10 delivery fee). She was due to arrive between 11:00-11:30am. At 12;15pm when she had not yet showed up, I called her office to inquire where she was. She told me that she "had it stuck in her head that it was for tomorrow" (Tuesday, June 14th.). Darla, when you run a business, you shouldn't have "things stuck in your head." When you make a commitment and charge a customer for promised services, you should keep your promise -- the customer shouldn't have to worry about whether or not you have something stuck in your head. Darla, I'm told the cake pops were delicious...well done! However, as the one paid for them, I am embarrassed that the birthday surprise wasn't received on time. I guess I'm the only one with a bad taste in my mouth. :-( read more

I shouldve written a review a long time ago. I always say I'll write one for Darla but laziness always gets the best of me. Today, i passed by darla's little shop and i remembered how amazing her cake pops are. She is really nice and easy to work with. I ordered two dozen gender-reveal cake pops and they were as delicious as they look. You can tell she took her time making every single pop. Its all in the details.
