So I have been falling a bit behind because of some health issues, but I wanted to catch up on a few reviews for some of the places I've recently visited. So today I wanted to talk about Say So Sweets Filipino and Hawaiian Cafe. I absolutely love Filipino food so getting to try this place was a major boon. I expected the pretty basic Filipino essentials, but was overly thrilled for the delightful menu options. This location offers. It's a cute little store in a small strip mall near FSCJ's South campus and UNF and is totally worth a visit. Food - 11/10. Yes, this place definitely turns the knob up to 11. I went expecting lumpia and that did not disappoint in the least, but what really knocked our socks off was the Tapsilog. I haven't had it in ages and I was worried my memory maybe just put the dish on way too high a pedestal. But they checked every box of it here! Brought it right out of my memory and slapped it on a plate for me. The rice was perfectly sticky and comes with a little garlic vinegar sauce for it which just makes it sing. The egg is your perfectly normal fried egg. You might scoff at how simple it is on the plate but it's how everything g word together that makes it divine. The lumpia is exactly what you're craving. Lord I could eat that plate for the rest of my life and be happy. It's just the perfect balance of everything. My son went for the chicken and ube waffles. He has an addiction to ube. I expected the waffles might be great and the chicken would just be some plain chicken tender. I was so surprised to see that it was a beautifully juicy deboned and fried chicken thigh. I was kind of jealous about his meal choice at that point because I was sure it would just be some dry chicken tender. The Ube waffles were unreal. My son nags me daily to go back there for brunch, so we definitely have to head back soon. Atmosphere - 9/10. Literally my only complaint about the atmosphere here is it is a very small space. I really hope that enough people visit and make this place so popular that they find the need to expand soon. Otherwise it's a quaint, cozy little café with beautiful dessert cases to entice Any sweet tooth. Service - 10/10. The best thing about finding these little small business restaurants is that you don't have a workforce that is uninvested and uncaring. The owners love for sharing good food is so very obvious and her open and amiable and generous nature. At least I'm assuming it is the owner. The food was served quickly and fresh and she was so very kind and engaging to everybody who visited the day I was there. As always, don't miss a chance to support local businesses that bring great food and culture to our community. And don't sleep on that tapsilog. I would not complain at all if they migrated out to the west side. I'd probably be there at least once a week for a meal and I'd probably sneak in for Lupia at least every other day. read more

First time but definitely won't be my last! We ran in here for a quick treat but I'm eager to try their lunch menu next time I'm there! I was greeted by Flo she had a contagious smile, full of energy and conversation. Engaged with myself and made sure to make my son feel welcomed and included. I went with a Mango Dragon Fruit Chiller, honestly, I couldn't decide and all the drinks sounded good but the person ahead of me ordered this and so it was so pretty I had to give it a try. Very delicious!! Within Say So Sweets is also a new addition to her brand- a Gourmet Cookie Line CHUNKIEZ!! Delicious CHUNKY cookies!! Definitely don't skip trying these!! Mango cookies- oh MY! The mango is sweet enough and these cookies are perfect, not too sweet at all Ube cookies- you guessed it, perfectly balanced, not too sweet! Hawaiian Macaroni Salad- one of the favorites among customers- I ate every bit over 2 days! Strawberry Calamansi Refresher- I know I enjoy this type of citrus drink (from another Filipino shop) and tried theirs- not sugar added and no need with the natural fruit to sweeten it! I loved it and could drink several of these easily! Lumpia- hmmmm, it's been months since I had lumpia that I didn't make myself, and these delivered! I finally made my way over to Say So Sweets last weekend for brunch. I was not prepared for the amount and variety of all the yummy treats that are available to purchase! I decided on the Longsilog platter- two pieces of longanisa (Filipino sweet pork sausage) served with garlic fried rice and a sunny side up egg. It was an absolutely delicious combination of flavors, enhanced even more by the suggested garlic vinegar sauce drizzled on top. After the Yelp Soiree Elite event there was no place I was looking forward to visit more than Say So Sweets! I found their cupcakes to be awesome at the Event and wanted to give them a try once again. I found the shop sort of accidentally after church and was convinced to turn my car around to go take a look inside. Though Say So Sweets sells baked goods like its Filipino counterpart, The Baker's Son, it does something that Baker's Son doesn't do - that is, serve breakfast and brunch. Also, this is a small store on the interior like Baker's Son, but unlike Baker's Son, it has seating for those who buy the baked goods and other foodstuffs. I sat down for a few minutes and found the atmosphere cheerful and the customers were enjoying their meals nicely. Courtesy from the employees was outstanding. One of the workers who I met at the Soirée was there and helped us out kindly. I purchased an Aloha Sunrise chiller, chicken siopoa, a Kona Coffee cheesecake, and a mango chiller. Oh! And I cannot forget the red velvet cookie!! Oh my goodness the best one I've ever had! Say So Sweets has been in business at this location for three years and seems to have a pretty solid clientele. Well, they're good - very good! And rightfully earned it. I look forward to getting back there to try the breakfasts soon - and give an update to my review at that time! One of the best Filipino/Hawaiian bakeries in the area for sure! The staff are always nice and the shop is very clean, bright, lots of cute decorations, and they now have a small dining area. I personally like the new layout more as the layout before was bit cluttered and chaotic. When I first visited Say So Sweets, they didn't have breakfast/brunch items but now I'm so happy that they are doing well and expanding. I usually get their ube donuts as they are delicious, soft, flavorful, and very light. My husband even got my birthday cake, which was a mango cake here! I love their mango cake as it's like a chiffon cake texture and the filling is made of fresh mangoes with fresh cut mangoes inside and on the cake. I would suggest getting a custom made cake from here! Their cakes are outrageously good. My husband and I decided to stop by for some goodies the other day. We got the following: Coco de pan: It's basically a bun filled will caramelized coconut flakes. It's a 9/10 for me! I love how perfectly baked the buns are and the added sweetness that the coconut flakes brings it all together. I could eat the whole container in one setting. It comes with 4 buns. Hawaiian chicken mac salad: OMG!!! I've tried many mac salad places and this one wins for sure. Their mac salad is probably the best out of L & L and Pokemoto. I was trying so hard not to eat the whole container. The creaminess of the pasta mixed in with chicken is very pleasing on the palette. It reminded me of an excellent tuna salad but made with pasta and chicken instead. The flavors were just WOW!!! I couldn't believe how much I love this pasta. 10/10! Hotdog cheese bun: My husband got this and he enjoyed it very much. So much that he didn't even offer me a bite haha. It's essentially a smoked hotdog wrapped with a fluffy bun with cheese on top. They warm it up for you as requested too! Overall, we plan on coming to this bakery now and then. We live pretty far from it but whenever we are on this side of town, we plan to come for more goodies. My family and I had tried a few items from here when they were still at another local shop nearby. We were excited to see that they'd have their own shop and offer breakfast and lunch as well because.. balance aka all the sweets need balance lol We got 2 different breakfast plates which came with a pinoy protein meat, garlic rice, and an egg. Both were super flavor and filling. We also enjoyed the fresh calamansi juice - this came in big cup which was perfect to share. Now for what we really came for.. the halo halo! I. Needed. Breakfast. Delivered. All they typical breakfast places really didn't excite me until I came across the sister store of Mariana's Grinds. I had to get the Ube Waffles. These had a thicker consistency than flour waffles and in my opinion, much tastier. The Chicken Adobo? Magnifique. The rice was seasoned and the fact it's garlic rice makes it all the more better. This mixed with the fried egg and the chicken made for a really good brunch. I was full for most of the day. The Kona Coffee was so good. I bought a chocolate coconut haupia pie, Ube cream whoopie pies, a slice of Ube cake, & a loaf of Ube bread. My favorite were the Ube cream whoopie pies. They came with two. They look like sandwiched cookies with blue cream in the middle. They were small but soft and tasty. The rest of the items were unfortunately bland. I wish they had more flavor. On the way into the restaurant next door, I saw Say So Sweets and decided to visit after we finished lunch. The space is bright, organized, and very clean. They have a variety of baked Filipino goods, along with some entrees as well. So many things looked good but unfortunately, they sell most of their baked goods in larger quantities than what I wanted. Unlike some Asian bakeries, they had very few things, aside from some sweets, that you could get in quantities of one. I decided on a package of two small ube oreo cheesecakes, a chicken empanada, and spam musubi. The empanada had a great, flaky crust but the filling reminded me of chicken pot pie with diced carrots and peas, along with shredded chicken. It wasn't exactly what I was expecting but it did have a good flavor. The cheesecake however didn't have much of an ube taste and I'm not sure if I missed something but it didn't resemble cheesecake at all. It looked and tasted like a cupcake. Rounding out the items that I got was the spam musubi, which had a nice sweet glaze on it and egg under the spam. The glaze on the musubi reminded me of the lumpia dipping sauce that they have at Marianas Grinds. I think I recognized one of the people in there from the restaurant as well. I wonder if the owners of this bakery are the same people who are behind the restaurant. If so, good for them. They are in a great strip mall with a number of eateries so business should be good for them. read more

I have a mixed review of this shop. The service is great and the space is small but cozy. I was excited to try anything ube - I settled with the ube cookies. They were 5/5!! I tried the baked Manapua with pork, the bread was flavorful and the pork was really good but there was not a lot of filling. It was more bread than anything, 3/5. I had a cheese dog, it was really good, 5/5. I also had the baked empanadas, 1 of pork and 1 of chicken. Same as the manapua, the empanada was crispy but not a lot of filling, 3/5. I also had spam Masubi, it was not to my liking at all. The sauce I couldn't get over, 1/5. When I was paying I asked if they made senorita bread. IYKYK!! So I pre-ordered a dozen. Thinking these were the authentic ones with the soft sugared butter in the middle and coated on the top. However, much to my dismay, they are just sweet bread rolls, 2/5. This is a unique Filipino bakery and eatery. It's easy to get to, not far from highway exit. For lunch we had pork tocino, pancit palabok. They were both delicious. The spam musubi was also quite good. We should have bought more than one. For the bake good, we had ube cinnamo ban. It was warm, fluffy with the right amount of sweetness. It is always nice to have options, especially in the Filipino and Hawaiian bakery sector. I was at the soft opening of Say So Sweets on Thursday (3.25.2021). The shop offers many of Filipino's common pastries and desserts as well as others. They had some unique breads and pastries I never seen before so I decided to try them. All in all, I wanted to love it, but it was just okay to me. Majority of the pastries and breads I tried were just mild tasting. And this being my first time at Say So Sweets didn't finalize my thoughts of their items. I have had the chance to try their items before while they were selling them at Marianna's Grinds. During that time, I did not really dig the Ube Ensaymada they were selling. So happy to see a business expand and grow. This business started out working out of another restaurant and now has their own storefront. I went to a local event in Jax today and they were there giving samples of some of their special desserts-I got to try the Ube Whoppie Pie and the Ube Oreo Cheesecake... wow! What divine desserts!! My grandpa(my grandpa since birth but my moms step father so not blood related) was from the Philippines and sadly passed last May.. I never got to experience his cuisine and really only heard of his culture! So having a place to experience tastes/flavors of his home will be special! My favorite items were: spam musubi (delicious), spam breakfast sandwich (i would love to get this again!), ube cookies (the dough is soft and chewy like chocolate chip cookies), and the leche flan donut (love how it oozes when you bite it). the ube loaf was pretty good too. the ube flavor was subtle. Cute little Hawaiian/Filipino bakery shop. I'm always excited when I see pan de sal bakery shops open up because I feel like I'm back in the Philippines. Cute decorations and shelving to make it have a more modern look to the shop. They make everything fresh and I'm really impressed with how fast the items sell. The workers there are very friendly and they'll take time to get to know us. Although I'm not a fan of Halo-Halo myself, my family purchased one to share and they absolutely loved it! My best friend got the ensaymada and she thinks it tastes just as good as the Baker's Son on Kernan.
