We picked up lots of produce, but also tried the prepared meals. My husband had the Korean pulled pork with kimchi, which was fantastic, and I had the ravioli with pesto, pine nuts, and fresh local tomatoes. I'm not the biggest fan of pasta in general, but this was so very good. I can't wait for another, before tomato season is through. Thank you, Royal Tomato! I stopped at one of the stands spoke to a younger guy and asked him to please find me the sweetest one they have doesn't matter the size. He went and picked the biggest one... meanwhile I was having a chat with the lady at the same stand. I asked her again will that be a sweet one? I guess she felt bad and told the guy that it will be pink inside... she went and picked me another one herself. The one she picked was a winner! The place is owned and run by family. All of them are very nice. The guy farms several vegetables himself. The other fruit and veggies he gets from the area distributors. This makes for some fresh produce and a lot better than what you get in the grocery stores. His prices are reaonable and compare (if not cheaper) to HEB. Like any place that sells fresh produce, sometimes you might get a bad peach or such. However, 99% of the time I've always had good fruit and vegetables from them. They also sell some jar items, but never tried them. If you go, you might want to call first because they are seasonal. I think they close down after November. If you go out Hwy 36 from Rosenberg watch for the red "Open" sign. The turn off road is right across Hwy 36 from a concrete yard. My one and only complaint is having to cross a busy railroad track to get in.

This is definitely the place to stop if you are looking for high quality watermelon, especially of the black-seeded variety. This kind of watermelon is hardly ever sold in Houston supermarkets these days. In my opinion, the produce sold here just looks better than the offerings in most grocery stores. The varieties of squash seem more plump and fresh. Part of the haul from the latest trip to Dilorio: Yellow Onion, Russet Potatoes, Zucchini, Ginger, Yellow Squash, Cherries, a Mango and a Peach. The peppers and greens looked good, and I was happy to see sacks of Black Eyed Peas in the freezer section. There are seeds, plants and flowers placed outside and near the front of the store. The site is on the main page so I would suggest checking that out ahead of making your trip out here. The owner and staff were engaging and helped me with my selections. The staff was helpful and patient with all my questions which made it easier to make selections and make hurried choices. The woman who appeared to be the bakery manager, working around 8:15 a.m., answered every question with an attitude that felt forced, dismissive, and unwelcoming. When someone says, "This is my first time here," it's usually an opportunity to create a memorable experience--not make them feel like they're interrupting your morning. I won't be rating the bakery's famous pigs in a blanket because, to me, hospitality is part of the product. Outstanding customer service can elevate good food to a great experience. Without it, even the town's signature pastry loses some of its appeal.
