After visiting over five stores on Haight, FTC delivers again. At this point, it's a little spooky. Last time I found my favorite shell to this day, was here, under similar circumstances. This time, I found another one and it was so perfect, I wore it out. The crazy part was that it was their last one and it was in my size. Awesome experience! Took my 10yr old daughter to pick out and build her own skateboard. People were kind, friendly and willing to help. Nice selection of boards to choose from. I called and asked if they make skateboard repairs. They said they sell all of the components and would be able to install them if I bring my kid's board in. When we got to the shop the guy examined the board and pointed out some safety issues with the way it was manufactured and said it wasn't a good quality board and he recommended replacing it. He said they had all of the components in stock used but good condition and he could assemble a much better skateboard. I went with his recommendation and for around $100 I had a great quality new to me skateboard for my kid to use. The other kids at the skate park say it's a great board and they all love talking turns on it. I had such a great experience at FTC and would highly recommend. read more

Great shop. OG skate shop in the city... I always try to come in whenever I'm back home and I made a point to stop by this last trip. I saw some tees online I wanted. Glad I did. I got 2 classic tees and now I know what size hoodie I need when they restock sizes. The front window display is always on point. And I always snap a pic of the legends wall up high opposite the cash register. So good. The Gonz, Tommy, Thiebaud, Hosoi, etc... All bring me back to growing up skating in the city (watching Tommy skate the schoolyards) and buying my 1st pro model on Haight St back in the mid 80s... SO grateful to have grown up back then and to know shops like FTC have withstood the test of time and continue to put out quality products. The upstairs section has all the in-house FTC apparel and accessories. Nice hats and beanies. The t-shirt designs and hoodie graphics are all classic. The style is clean and def exude San Francisco skate culture for sure. It was a pleasure meeting Kent. He was extremely helpful in finding me the sizes I need and helping me figure out what would fit better. It was great talking him for a bit about the city. Just a very cool and humble person. These guys have greattttly improved in their selections. I took off one star because the women's section was pretty pathetic, although I saw some cool Nikita hoodys. Customer service is off the chain. I had three of them helping me out with the Diamond Supply "Riding Neons" tee. They were willing to take the tee off the mannequin up front and find all the ones in the back. Pretty good considering most skate-urban boutiques usually lack the interaction I recieved here. Clothing to the right with mens tees organized by size (most mediums are gone btw!), skate board decks, trucks, etc to the left, and head upstairs to the shoes (nothing impressive). There's also a cool chair made out of boards up there. Defintely one of those places you gotta hit up when in haight, besides TRUE, Stussy, Villains, and Shoe Biz. read more

Great place for picking up skate stuff. Decks, wheels, trucks...they've got you covered. If you're not looking for hardware...or you prefer going old school like me (still ridin' my Vision Gator and Hosoi Hammerhead from back in the day)...Then FTC can at least hook you up with some up-to-date street threads. I really like that they carry Diamond Supply...I think it's the only store in SF to have it since Nick basically started the line while he was at FTC. Been a Bay Area skater for 16 years and in that time the only shop I've ever been to that I've ever been like f*** this place is FTC. Staff is rude as shit and always act hella tough and like they are better then everyone. Their clothes (ftc brand) are beyond bloated on pricing. The cherry on top is one time my homie told me he went in to grab a deck and asked if they could grip it (unbeknownst to them he had recently messed up his wrist pretty bad, so gripping a board was hard for him at the moment) but they completely bashed on him and gave him shit about no gripping his own board before he told them why he couldn't and even then he said they were be assholes about it. Never been to a shop where they gave someone attitude about doing something that almost all skate shops are known for doing. Don't support these arrogant dudes. You got soooo many other better choices in the city. read more

NiketownSF mentioned that some local skate shop will release a specific Nike shoes this coming Saturday. Unfortunately. I happen to contact this skate shop to inquire about these shoes and was given a rude NO and hung up on me right after saying no. This store must have gotten several inquiries about the shoes today that's why they're very frustrated about these callers. They definitely need to buy some patience and a better customer service skills. preface: I am not a skater, young or cool, I just like graphic t-shirts. We were strolling down upper Haight for shits and giggles and stopped into FTC to scour the graphic t-shirt selection. I found one I really liked and bought it. After the first wash, the ink came off and there were flakes everywhere. I am glad I turn all of my t-shirts inside out prior to every wash (this helps to preserves the ink.) A couple of months later, I decided to stop in again and tell them what had happened to the shirt (not looking for a free handout or replacement.) They gave me free shirt, no questions asked. I guess all of the shirts with that particular design had a printing/ink flaw. The shirt that was given seems like a freebie, nevertheless, this is a testament to good service. read more

Although I haven't visited the actual shop, I will give high marks on their customer service. I went to their website and saw a shirt I wanted. All they had was XL and I needed a M. I sent them an email asking if and when they were getting a restock on it. The quickly responded and said they had one left in the store and told me to use the website to purchase he shirt. I was told to make a comment when placing the order that I was getting the medium. Well for some reason I didn't see the comment box in the ordering form. I sent the an email after he order went through asking to verify that the medium was the one I was getting. Sure enuff I didn't get an email, I got a call. I never thought I'd use the word "nice" to describe the folks in a skateboarding shop ... but they just were. The GF and I walked in there clueless with our crappy hand-me-down boards, in need of help and feeling highly intimidated. David totally took care of us - pretty much built each of us a new board from any salvageable pieces of our old boards and secondhand stuff they had lying around the shop and expected little/nothing in return. We now have 2 working skateboards between us, plenty of battlescars and bigass smiles on our faces. Thank you, FTC, for enabling our newfound skateboarding habit. Unlike other places, they take the time to explain why some things are important and others aren't so critical. I spent 3 hours trying on boots and they were helpful and knowledgeable about fit, perfomrmance and my riding style. I ended up with some great boots as a result. Yes, the staff is 93% douche bags, so get over it; they're used to too many tourists. The selection isn't bad, when you go upstairs you'll find some nice kix, and you may even get a salesperson to be kind enough to help you out (if you're lucky). these guys don't need your money! pass them up!! had an unfortunate experience with this shop. we were in from out of town on sunday night and the only thing our son wanted was a souvenir deck from a sf skate shop. naturally ftc seemed like a good choice and were open til 7. we called at 6:15 and asked if they could stay maybe 10 minutes past close as we were on our way but running low on time with our uber stuck in traffic. they of course said no and hung up. so the driver pushed hard to get us there. at 6:53 when we arrived, the door sign said closed and shop was locked. we unloaded our 3 other family members and all our baggage on the curb and watched them inside with a couple beers and a pizza. dude came to the door finally and said they already closed the register. showed him the time on my iphone and he walked away. my son is 11 and he was heartbroken. even offered him cash. dude was a total jerk about it too. wtf. so much I took a photo and he flipped us off. he could've made it OK and at least given him a couple stickers or just been genuinely bummed. but he didn't give a f$&@ in person or over the phone. to top it off as all 5 of us waited out front of the store for a lyft, my fiancé stepped in human feces. then dudes ended up coming out carrying the pizza and a new deck. not a word was said to us. F that place. we ended up at ATLAS skate shop in san mateo and those guys were stellar. GO THERE! well worth it. read more

Just an update, that i have had mostly good experiences here. I've kept on coming here, and their have a great selection of skate videos. special interest message For those who menustrate: I have not been attacked by out of control women here, and there is no longer a creepy "women's skate fashion" section of clothes that no human being can skate in. That's pretty cool, those are probably weird pet projects of skater girlfreinds, and it's good to see those gone. You could spend your hard earned cash instead on the skateboarding sneakers! I am old and wrinkled and not intimidated by all-male preserves, but I can see how some girl who is a little intimidated by a bunch of men. Only justin bieber has the magic that can make women totally comfortable and write his name on their tummies in glitter. the rest of the men have to be in total fear of freaking women out, especially skateboarders, who have been wondering since the beginning of time how they can get women into their sport. it's the last holy grail! since teaching their girlfriends has a 99.9999% failure rate, the only real solution is to get random women away from the brazilian bikini wax salon to wander into FTC and buy a skateboard and then commit. it's also crucial that these random women not be currently dating a skater when they do the first skateboard purchase. i don't know why that is but that's how it is. for girls, I would either say toughen up and travel the world or just keep in mind that you are genetically advantaged in skateboarding. men are more or less like you and me, it's just that their thoughts are more pure, so please do not make any off-color jokes or use bad language or it will For some reason the best skateboarding advice seems to come from the little kids that are here, so they're like this extra feature of the shop that is not advertised. talk tot he little kids, they will rule the world! read more

Every time I go to FTC the workers are always dicks to me. As a SF local I want to rep FTC but they make it so difficult for me to buy their products. Every time I ask them a question they either ignore me or treat me like an idiot. When I tried on their clothing they laughed at me. I don't even think these guys skate as I bought a new board off of them only to have them leave 3 massive air bubbles under the grip tape. All their products are so overpriced I really expected to receive a high quality board but I feel cheated as it was so half assed. I was upset with FTC already but today they crossed the line. I came in looking to buy a new hat with my buddies and the two workers were ignoring us as usual. I found nothing I liked and my friends left before me. As I was leaving, I heard one of workers saying an extremely racist statement about my Asian friend and the other laughing and agreeing. I left feeling disgusted by FTC. If your looking for a pretentious , pseudo-intellectual as well as over-priced shop, well this is your place. I was looking for a particular deck for my brother for his birthday. I didn't know the brand or when it came out but, I had a picture I gleamed off the internet. Plus, I'm not a skater, nor am I knowledgeable in the skating culture/products so I was in need of serious help. I walked in FTC around 4pm. It was barely crowded and the shop itself is small, about the size of a studio apartment. There were two guys working the glass cases. One was heavily involved in a four person sales transaction and the other was leaning on the counter, immersed in a conversation with his friend. I looked at the decks on the wall to discover the one I was searching for wasn't there. So, I approached the guy speaking to his friend. I apologized for interrupting and asked if he was working (I work in retail and get annoyed as shit when people approach me when I'm on my break). He said no as he huffed and stared me down. He acted as if I was interrupting some philosophical moment he was having. I than awkwardly asked if he could help me find this particular deck, to which I showed him the picture. He slightly laughed (I'm assuming at my stupidity on when the deck was released) and abruptly told me "no we dont carry that anymore" and walked away to the other side of the store engaging in conversation with his co-worker about food. No sorry, no information on the deck itself (like who it was by, when it came out etc), not even a bye, no nothing. DUDE.... Really?? How rude are you? Sorry I didn't know information about the deck. Rub one out and get off of your high horse. His friend, who was NOT an employee, took pity on me and asked to see what I was looking for. After seeing the picture, he explained the deck had come out about a year prior and it was limited edition. He explained that sometimes the company does reproduce it during the holidays and I should check their website. He then told me the name of the company. Well, thanks random stranger.
