We recently visited Fu Fu Dim Sum & Hot Pot to celebrate my father's birthday for lunch. He chose this spot after hearing good things about their dim sum, and we had a party of nine, including four kids and five adults. Overall, the quality of the food was solid--especially the steamed dim sum. Dishes like shu mai and other steamed items were cooked very well. At many new dim sum restaurants, I often find the texture can be inconsistent, either overcooked or undercooked. Here, the balance was just right--the wrappers were soft, and the fillings had a good texture without being mushy. However, the fried dim sum was a bit disappointing. Specialty items like the crab claw balls and crispy shrimp rolls were noticeably small in portion. Compared to other dim sum restaurants that typically offer more generous servings (often 2-4 pieces per order), this restaurant seemed to provide the bare minimum. Given the pricing, the portion sizes didn't feel justified. While the food quality overall was good, the value simply wasn't there. Our total came out to over $500 before tip, and an automatic gratuity was also added. For that price point, we expected a better balance of portion size and value. In the end, while the cooking itself was well-executed, this wouldn't be my top choice for dim sum in the area, as there are other restaurants nearby that offer better portions and overall value for the price. read more

After seeing some of the reviews, I'm really not surprised there's a mix of good AND bad reviews; I personally never have any "alarming" issues but it might be because we come earlier than noon? The service is pretty standard and I never felt like I had to wait an insanely long time for the food or drinks. The staff do periodically check up on the tables which is better than other places (sometimes they drop off the food and never check back). The dim sum is more on the pricier side but the portions were bigger than I thought. Everything is pretty standard. The chinese broccoli is definitely overcooked so I would skip on that. The turnip cakes are inconsistently cooked (either over-fried or very foggy). Get the shui mai, har gow, roast pork and lava buns. Rice rolls are also pretty good. Like most dim-sum places, this is NOT an intimate restaurant and better for larger gatherings especially if you want to try many things. We ordered multiple dim sum dishes and almost all of them came out undercooked. Half of the shrimp inside the steamed shrimp dumplings were still grey. The pork inside the xiu mai was still raw. You wouldn't typically know this unless you were to cut into it, which I was doing because I was cutting up pieces to feed to my toddler. Thank god I did, otherwise we would have fed all of the raw food to our kid. I really like how Fu Fu has a big dining hall and it's clean. They could support a big crowd on a Sunday for sure. The dim sum it's not a full menu vs others but Fu Fu is offering the hot sellers. The dishes average $7 per and I ordered 7 dishes coming out to $58. The Ha Cao or shrimp dumplings is exactly what I would expect. Chewy soft exterior dumpling that looks clear with plump juicy shrimp in a center. It's a great example of a shrimp dumpling. Bean curd pork with oyster sauce was great. I love the oyster sauce mixed in with the bean curd. The texture is firm fibrous, and you can really taste the pork. Ginger and scallion beef tripe another great example of a traditional Chinese dish. The typical what you would expect chewy and firm beef tripe would absolutely no gamely flavor. Steam rice noodles with shrimp is a good dish. I've had this dish at every single dim sum restaurant and I don't really taste the difference compared to other restaurants. It taste almost identical. Is it worth seven dollars no. But what I will say is that I appreciate the texture of the rice noodle with the plump juicy shrimp. Steam rice noodles with beef is better than the steam rice noodles with shrimp. You can really taste the beef flavor, and the overall texture in my opinion is better. Mixon was the sweet soy sauce and it's a great experience. I would've preferred a much crispier pan fried turnip cakes but I can pan fry it when I get home. Not too oily not too salty but a great example of a turnip cake with bits and pieces of meat inside. Crispy exterior after I fried it at home and softener on the inside. Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce is another example of the exact same experience I would expect at a dim sum restaurant. It taste identical to every other dim sum restaurant I've gone too. Houston has other dim sum restaurants I would rather go to that tastes identical and each dish starts at $4-5 not $7-8. The benefit to us consumers in Houston is that competition is fierce so every restaurant has to do great so in my opinion, it's the price point and the value that sets it apart and I would say this restaurant is in the middle of the pack. Again, my favorite dim sum restaurant in Houston is Arco dim sum and Fine River dim sum. Fu fu is a great location but the price point is too expensive compared to others. read more

After years of of being inside of DunHuang Plaza, the FuFu group took their talents (#1) to the Vietnamese side of Bellaire, going all in on a dim sum banquet hall while sticking to their hot pot origins. While it was off to a rough start due to the hype and service woes, I do think they've rebounded quite nicely. In fact, the food and service have been on point during my last few visits, making this place one of the biggest surprise turnarounds I've seen in recent memory. The space is constantly changing, but it is enormous. It reminds me of Crown Seafood (#2) but cleaner and newer. This is one of the most group friendly restaurants in the entire city, as there are barely any small tables and lots of group table action that can sit anywhere from 6-12 at any given time. They also have a massive private room that offers up to 60 seats at $300 a table (which goes to the food bill) and has karaoke for an option. Their bathrooms are clean and I appreciate the big seafood tanks they have out on display, like a true Canto seafood spot. The biggest surprise of all has been the food. Many of the items I've had are good to very good and it's been consistent over the course of multiple visits with a number of different people. Many of my Canto speaking friends have expressed their surprise with this place as well, so I'm definitely not mad ath the food. Given the initial snafus with the staff and the transition period of settling in a new spot, new concept is no easy feat. Dim Sum is billed as all-day affair but I believe it stops around 5pm. Still, to offer dim sum into the early evening is a big plus. Some of their dim sum dish standouts include: the har gow shrimp dumplings (蝦餃), durian puff pastry (榴槤酥), turnip cakes (蘿蔔糕), glutinous rice wrapped in tea leaf (糯米雞), bean curd skin rolls (腐皮卷), bbq pork puff pastry (叉燒酥), and a nicely steamed chinese breadstick stuffed with shrimp (炸兩蝦米). I even appreciate their selection of Cantonese BBQ, which includes roast duck and roast bbq pork hanging for all to see. Even the tableside condiments are impressive with pickled jalapeños, decent hot oil, and different variations of soy sauce and vinegar. Weekends are starting to get busy, but I have managed to bypass this a bit by reserving tables ahead of time. While it's also pricey dim sum (some dishes are in the $9 range), I am hopeful the taste remains as quality as the food. The staff is as multilingual as they come, with the ability to accommodate Mandarin, Vietnamese, Chaujinese (Teochew), and Cantonese speakers. Parking is plentiful and things appear to be getting better and better. Could a proper Cantonese dinner propel them into 5 star territory? Disappointing experience from the service to food quality. Group of 4 came in on a Thursday afternoon around 2:30 pm. Front hostess was absent from position when people were coming in so there was a delay in seating people. Front hostess did not look like she wanted to be there. We waited for around 30 minutes to be sat but there were many empty, dirty tables when we looked inside. Once we got sat, the waited asked for our drinks and we never saw that initial waiter ever again. Took a good 15 minutes for someone to come and pick up our ticket. We received our fist dish maybe 15 minutes after. We received 3 dishes. (Green beans, flat noodles, sizzling beef) with a long time frame in between. After we relieved those dishes we did not receive anymore dishes for like 30 minutes. We had to flag down a waiter to ask what was happening with our order. Supposedly, the kitchen lost our ticket! I ordered bbq pork buns with the puff ontop but received regular baked bbq buns instead because they ran out. (They advertise all day dimsum!) waiter swore that they were hot and fresh but they were warm at best. We were sat down around 3 and did not leave until like 5pm because of everything that happened! In the beginning, the food was coming out very hot and fresh, which is why we thought there was a delay. But once we notified the staff of the lack of dishes, the food came out faster and of worse quality. The food that was not steamed was barely Hot. We came on Easter Day for lunch and was crowded. We waited for 30 minutes which was not bad considering how busy they were. We ordered a number of typical dimsum dishes... shiu mai, pork siopao, beef rice noodles. Chinese broccoli and bean curd rolls. In addition, we ordered crab and asparagus soup and sweet and sour pork. Regarding food, they are probably one of the best. Shiu Mai was of good size and taste passes my palate. Pork siopao has a good balance of filling and bun. Beef rice noodle roll was good. For the Chinese broccoli, they split it in half so that it is easier to eat rather than just leaving whole. The crab and asparagus soup was large! Had plenty to take home. Tasty and will order again. Sweet and sour pork was good.. thought it was better the first time as it was crispier. One thing that can cause hesitation is the service. It took a while to place order (about 30 mins) or even to get water. The big table beside us cleaned their own table. Hard to get anybody's attention. Not sure if this was bec of Easter. When it was time to packed leftovers, we grabbed the containers and bag on the side counter and everybody else was doing the same thing. Place is huge with plenty of tables. Food is above average. They just need to figure out how to work the tables. If you prioritize food over service, this a definite place to try. For us, we will come back again but maybe at less busy time. read more

Went with some friends to get some dim sum here and we're seated right away. We ordered the standard stuff like ha how, siu mai, rice noodles, broccoli, meat and custard buns and porridge. Pretty standard dim sum, I will say I think it is a bit above average! My favorite was the porridge and the steamed noodles with the fried doughnut. The walnut shrimps on the other hand was fantastic. Each shrimp was lighly fried and coated with not too sweet mayo sauce. The light crunch of the coating and the the soft shrimp really enchanted the taste of the dish. The table service was very attentive and friendly. The prices of the dim sum plates were higher than the competitors in Chinatown. The interior was spacious and clean. The parking lot was crap with pot holes everywhere. Oh no. I really had high hope for FuFu Dim Sum & Hot Pot restaurant. It opened in the Summer of 2024. The soft opening sign still up in November. They had enough chance to improve but not really. I came here early November with a group of Caucasians aka white people. I was the only Asian in the group but with the way I sat, the wait staff won't be able to see my face. We sat at the corner table by the restroom entrance. The dining area was huge. We got there about the end of lunch rush. But there were still quite of bit of customers. I know the employees were tired. Because it was obvious. I have no complaints about the food but the service had perfect reflection of Alief side of Asiatown. Yeah, that bad. I had to hunt down a waiter to give us water. I carried our water jug and walked to their serving station "begging" for water. That was ridiculous. Because we waved at the waitstaff numerous times, no one care to give us water. I even asked the food server for scissors to cut open the dumplings. She looked at me like I was a foreigner, or she didn't understand English. Next time, I'll speak Spanish. As I was told, both FuFu Cafe and FuFu Restaurant were closing as of November 15, 2024. They are moving everything to this location. I saw construction at the front of restaurant. Not sure what it would be. After this awful experience, I would stay away from this restaurant for a while until they figure out what they want to do. read more

It wasn't too crowded at this time, but the plaza is overall crowded and busy so parking isn't always easy to get. For dim sum, everything tasted pretty standard to me. It was comforting and good! My table ordered the truffle pork shrimp xiu mai, ha cao, sticky rice with Chinese sausage, banh cuon xa xiu, stuffed eggplant with black bean sauce, Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce, deep fried crab claw and baked bbq pork bun. My favorite dish was the truffle pork shrimp xiu mai. Like I mentioned, everything else was pretty standard and satisfied the dim sum craving. Pretty decent dim sum here. I like how big this newer location is with no wait time. There's even a large private dining room if you wanted to host an event here. My favorite item was the pork & shrimp shu mai with truffle. I think the truffle really elevated the dish for me. Some other favorites were the stuffed eggplant, rice noodle rolls, and baked BBQ buns. The bbq buns weren't too sweet which I appreciated. I wish the baked custard buns didn't have the yellow crust on top; it was too sweet and unappetizing. The sticky rice with Chinese sausage was also a skip for me... very underwhelming. An excellent place for dim sum, service could be improved. To be fair, I decided to eat dim sum here on Thanksgiving so they were packed. The wait staff did their best. Dim sum at Fu Fu is very good. My go to dishes are always: turnip cakes (crispy exterior and soft fluffy interior), fried taro things (no idea what these are called but there is a minced meat and mushroom mix inside, pureed taro on top, wrapped in a thin crispy outside), shrimp/beef cheong fun (silky smooth and drowning in the sweet soy sauce), har gow (huge shrimps inside), and chicken feet (skin falls off the bone). When you come in, do let the service know if you want hot pot or not so they can seat you at the right section. We came here for the hot pot but the soup base for both regular and spicy were very disappointing. The amount of meat and vegetable they gave you for the price you paid is good by the soup base is not good at all. I would come back here for the all day dim sum and the regular food, I would skip the hot pot for now The service is good but out hot pot meat came out slow they bring out all the vegetable and then the meat come out like 5 minutes after. For those who remember Q Mama (the restaurant before this one), not much has changed. Decent food, but HORRENDOUS service. Expect to grab utensils/napkins yourself, long delays, expressionless interactions, and missing orders. It's chaotic and sad to see. The table next to us even complained that we got our food first even though they sat first. We came here when they were still under construction. Lots of unfinished walls, exposed wires in ceilings, and construction material laying around. Parking lot was a disarray. They have lines now, but beware of giant pot holes or parking areas that you can end up being trapped in by other cars. I don't recommend this place. The fu fu name has a popular reputation, but I don't know if it's the same people as the restaurant or cafe. read more

Run. Run as fast as you can away from this restaurant. We went for Mother's Day Dinner and they sat us at two large tables, took our drink and food orders. Delivered our drinks, and then radio silence for 90 minutes. No communication, no checking up on us, and when we asked when we would get food, they said everything would come out all at once in 5 minutes. Shame on me for giving them the benefit of the doubt. 30 minutes later, and that's now two hours waiting for food, they lied and said it was coming out. We said we wanted to cancel everything and they still wanted to charge us for items they never served us. There is a reason they closed down, last time they had chicken hanging from their dumpsters, and this new place isn't any different. Take my advice, run. Run away from this place and go next door.
