Some of these people with reviews are so mean. I don't know if their recollection to the place are influenced by what was happening in their life at the time or just what. I got takeout appetizers because it was Friday night movie night at home with me and the kitties. I have to say that The crab Rangoon's were fabulous. Plenty of filling, the pastry was fluffy and crispy and not greasy. The same held true for the shrimp eggroll. The steamed dumplings that were "filled with deliciousness" or whatever the menu says, without being definitive about what's in them... To die for. I also got the barbecue ribs. Funny that they say that they state fall off the bone tender when they are boneless. They were quite good though out of everything, my least favorite. In short, not only will I go back, but I would take the most critical foodie there. read more

This place is consistently mid. Since a kid it's always been mid and hasn't changed even now lol. I only go here when I'm on a binge phase and need cheap Chinese. It's definitely not comparable to red house. If anyone tells you to go here because it's their favorite, please don't listen to them ever again. It's not good and it's not bad you just won't feel like you got your money worth's even though it's cheap. The sweet and sour chicken needs to be cooked harder, the sauce needs to be revamped. The general tso is bland and so is the orange chicken :/. Don't even bother getting the rice that might be the worse thing on the menu. The family however is very lovely!! And I adore them but I won't lie for the food or steer anyone wrong. The ambiance is cool and refreshing. It's in one of my favorite parts of the city and receives nostalgia points. The service is great they're quick and orderly when it comes to their service I just wish the food was improved. I am not happy with this place at all, it was a last minute effort to feed my starving body. I thought the prices look reasonable for the amount of food and I was actually pretty excited when I went to pick it up. I got back to the office and tasted it and immediately wanted to throw it away. The food tasted old and DO YOU SEE ALL THIS BROCCOLI?? I'm all for eating your veggies but this is overkill and I'm pretty mad I paid for it. I didn't end up eating any of it except for the rice and a few pieces of breading (I mean chicken). The sweet and sour sauce was no good either. I expected this to be flavorful and fill me up but it was a waste of my money and time. I've never had bad Chinese food before so it kind of blew my mind. Something in this dish was pretty old (thinking it was the beef) because after I finished snacking on what I did eat, I was running back and forth to the toilet at work. Everyone inside was nice and helpful, the building was clean. But whoever was cooking needs to be checked on and don't be shy to taste test what's being cooked. I have lived in the city for almost 10 years and I have always been too scared to try fu jian. (based on walking by vibes alone) we got some the other night and it was AWESOME! I got the general tso's tofu and fried rice. It was really delish and a LOT of food! My husband got crab rangoon- personally, I didn't care for those, have had better- but not terrible. Fu Jian is my go to for takeout Chinese. I especially like the spicy mala chicken which isn't something you always see on the menus. Friendly service when I'm there, good prices, and solid portions overall. Is there a high ratio of veggies? Sure. It's not a sit down restaurant so who cares about what the inside looks like. And when said customer calls to inquire you cancel their order completely because you don't feel you need to explain it. It's nowhere on your website. Shame on you. Glad we stopped in for some takeout before reading reviews. Frankly the food is solid - as good as anything in Richmond and in fact probably the best Chinese takeout we have had here. My regret is great. I decided recently to try this restaurant again after they first opened back in, I don't know, 1998? It was horrible then, and it is not great now. I really do not understand why people rave about this place. For starters, the hot and sour soup was okay. The egg rolls were hot and fairly tasteless, as was the fried rice. I'm not really sure what kind of chicken (?) pink slime pressed pieces mi they used for the mystery meat chicken in the Kung Pao, which, by the way is supposed to be a rich sauce that explodes with flavor and spiciness (see the example photo), but the one here is a pale, watery letdown. The Szechuan Lo Mein was edible with slippery pieces of fake crab and other fake meat-ish things. The other thing that to note is that this business has not been claimed on yelp. As a business owner, I would want to claim my business and respond to issues. read more

I haven't been here in forever and decided to grab some food for lunch. I remember this place being way better. I ordered vegetable lo mein, general tso chicken, and vegetable fried rice. None of the food tasted completely terrible but it was just mediocre. Why are y'all making lo mein with spaghetti noodles instead of lo mein noodles? Why is the breading on the general Tso chicken taste like you dipped the chicken in funnel cake batter at a state fair? Why does the fried rice not have any flavor whatsoever? It was just stuff like this that made me dislike the food. The service to pick up my order was a little annoying because they are still doing completely contactless which is fine, but they leave their door locked with a phone number posted on it and then proceed to treat you as if you have the plague with their weird little sliding pickup window. Honestly don't think I'll be back because I can easily make Chinese food at home that tastes way better than what you pay for over here. read more

This place is the bomb!!!! You don't have to wait long for a pick up. The people are very nice and they don't miss a call. I have not had one bad meal from this place. My goal is to try every meal from their menu. Never fear about this place. This place is closed on Mondays but no fear Tuesday thru Sunday definitely works!!!! I recommend the Chicken and Broccoli, the shrimp fried rice and the crab Rangoon. The General Cho Chicken is just the right amount of heat. After writing this post I am in the mood for Chinese food. Womp womp. I ordered broccoli and garlic sauce and got very tough broccoli in what might have been water mixed with soy sauce. It was so plain. I really wanted to like this, but it was a total disappointment... There was zero flavor to this dish. I also ordered egg drop soup which came with lackluster (not)crispy noodles. The soup was decent, at best. My final item was a shrimp egg roll. I was pleased to see this was not drenched in grease, but like the noodles, the crispiness was lacking. The inside was also bland and very underwhelming. Overall, not impressed with my experience here. I have had much more delicious Chinese food in my lifetime. Moving on! read more

I ordered here twice in the last few weeks. Got Hot and Sour Soup and Dumplings the first time. Food was on time. Dumplings were good, Hot and Sour Soup was terrible. Second time I got the Dumplings and the Chicken and Broccoli. Food was late and my stomach was pretty upset after the dumplings. I tried my luck with the chicken and broccoli the next day and I have been in and out of the bathroom for 6 hours since then. Will not be ordering here again. read more

So, I'm creating a Yelp account just to review Fu Jian. Literally just ordered from there and it was absolutely disgusting...and cost $33. We got Shrimp lo mien, general tso's chicken, and chicken with mixed vegetables. The color of every dish looked as if it had been put through some bleached out hipster filter on instagram, and everything had the same faint taste of unwashed feet dipped in some sort of shrimp sauce. The sad thing is, our standards for Chinese delivery are not that high. I mean, if the food is plentiful, hot and doesn't taste like cat food, then I usually do not make internet accounts that I don't plan to use ever again. But, it's times like these when you have to take a stand. I was sort of shocked to see so many bad reviews for this place. It is by far my favorite place for Chinese in the greater Richmond area. Let's just start off by saying that... it's Chinese takeout. I'm pretty sure one requirement of being a Chinese takeout joint is greasy, semi-flavorful food, the same as any other place. Anyway, if that's what you're looking for, this is the spot. Their staff is friendly and the place is clean. I have watched my food being made several times, you have full view of the kitchen, and they do it right. On to the food. This place has the best crab rangoons I've ever had ANYWHERE. You can tell they are made from scratch *not frozen* and fried up fresh. We get them EVERY TIME we go here. I love their fried rice (shrimp) and all of their lo miens are tasty and keep for several days. My husband loves getting the beef and broccoli. The beef is tender and flavorful. I am a huge fan of the sweet and sour shrimp. BIG shrimp, battered and fried and served with that tasty sweet and sour sauce. Not a little tiny cup of it, enough for you to save some for the next time. I love Fu Jian. If you want decent Chinese, I promise you aren't going to find better than this. read more

I love Fu Jian. When I lived in Carytown and when I lived off Forrest Hill they delivered to me. The service is very quick and friendly. This is the typical Chinese menu with typical Chinese food. Pretty good. Not great but, pretty good. Walked on over with with my drummer last night to grab some grub before we rocked out. I ordered the fried jumbo shrimp with fried rice and an egg roll. Cost me about $8 and some change. It was about a 10 minute wait until our orders were up. Very friendly service however, the in-store menu is a bit confusing. Store could've been cleaner, though. The food itself is decent. The fried rice was yellow which I totally love. It looks so tasty and inviting! Fried shrimp was just that, fried shrimp. I wish it had more of a shrimp flavor than a fried flavor. All in all, a decent place for some cheap, city Chinese. read more

Love the lo mein! I get the veggie lo mein and the vegetables are always fresh (the broccoli with garlic sauce is great too). My boyfriend gets the chicken lo mein and they always have good quality chicken. I like to order online and my food is usually delivered pretty quickly (about 30 minutes). On a day after a big night of drinking I knew I wanted to eat a crap ton of Chinese food.. but I also didn't want to pay $30 to get a bunch of stuff. I usually order from the Eatery but I decided to take a chance on Fu Jian despite the 3 star rating and just go for it because it was almost $11 cheaper for the same amount of food. I'm glad I did! It wasn't like THE BEST Chinese ever, but after all.. how different are all of these places? The food came hot, not soggy, had good flavor, and was just what I expected for each dish. The only things I cant tolerate with Chinese are sogginess and when the dish arrives and it isn't what you expect like they just didn't have the ingredients for it (all Chinese American is kind of the same so you should know what you're getting). The only thing I can say though is that the general tsos was a tad sweet, like almost a little too sugary tasting. But it didn't bother me to where I wasn't going to enjoy it. The delivery came right on time. And in less than 45 minutes which is sooo appreciated. No one wants to wait over that amount time for their food to come. Ordered the shrimp toast and lobster fried rice. The shrimp toast was burnt and tasted burnt. The pieces of lobster in the fried rice turned out to be imitation crab meat. I called and provided them with my feedback they said toast always looks burnt but it isn't and they use small lobsters and that they would do no refunds on those items. I advised them I would never order from them again and I would tell others of my experience. I caution everyone not to order from this restaurant they outright lie and don't resolve issues. read more
