This place was an absolute new local gem and I will be recommending it to everyone I know! The price, the food, the service, and the nostalgia of classic and special Chinese food really made Luke's Noodles stand out! The space was bright and clean with a good amount of seating divided by a partition in the middle. They even had benches to sit on if you were waiting for whatever reason. The ladies who served us on a Monday for lunch were incredibly darling and so patient with us during the ordering process. The cafeteria style food display and the compartmentalized food tray really took me back to some great grade school memories. We each got the Combo #2 for $15 - 3 entrees with half fried rice and udon noodles (love this option!) I mean come on, what a deal! (In this economy??!) It was honestly so hard to choose the entrees because everything looked so good. I went with some classics: tomato egg, pineapple/orange chicken, spicy chicken (chongqing chicken style) and my friend got the eggplant, spicy beef mix and the mushroom chicken with zucchini. Everything was super flavorful, not overly sweet or spicy, and the rice and noodles were the perfect accompaniment to the sweet and savory dishes. We were full after eating half of our plates and the kids really enjoyed everything as well. Yay for leftovers. Don't sleep on this restaurant and get your real Chinese food fix for an amazing price! I cannot wait to come back to try more different entrees. (Bonus: TESO Life is right next door so that's fun to go explore to walk off those noodles!) To my husband and I, Luke's is the more authentic Panda Express we're happy to have in Beaverton. You order first, pay, and then seat yourself in a cafeteria-style setting. More authentic in so many ways - the food, first of all, is legit. You'll bite into multiple peppercorns when trying out their pretty freaking mala-heavy mapo tofu. Each of their dishes tastes homemade, which I appreciate. The atmosphere, too. You'll hear the ladies at the front barking orders for more food to the people in the kitchen. You might be assisted by a kid who looks like he's in middle school and doing homework while he's waiting for you to decide what to order. Pricing is super reasonable - I usually get the "Entress + 3 Toping" (the typos are also authentic, not to mention endearing) which is a carb and 3 side dishes, and I can never finish it in one sitting. I always end up taking some amount of food home. The ambiance is not the fanciest nor the most vibey, so don't come here for a romantic date night. I saw some reviews saying this was a good spot for Chinese fast food. I was in a hurry and the restaurant was on my way, so I decided to stop and grab something to go... While I was waiting, I saw the attendant was taking something of a microwave oven by the cashier, which made me very concerned - if I wanted microwaved food, I'd get a frozen meal... When I got home and tried them all, not very amused or surprised: the fried noodles were OK. But the proteins were very under my expectations: the beef with potato seemed to be overcooked and had a green-ish color; the chicken stripes tasted like cumin (and I'm not a big fan of cumin); the teriyaki chicken that came from the microwave... well, very unpleasant. The attendant was very nice, but unfortunately I don't recommend and wouldn't come back here. Food is good and will satisfy cravings, but it's not a place to go to showcase the best Chinese food of Portland. Last night I was in the mood for Chinese, but i didn't want to drive "all the way" out to Beaverton for my usual, so I thought I would give Luke's a try. I had that 20% Grand Opening coupon on my dining room table for almost a month. I walked in at about 5:00 pm. The place was totally empty. I walked up to the counter. The woman there was really nice. I ordered the fried noodles with pineapple chicken and beef with zucchini and mushrooms. I also got an order of egg rolls. The entrees and the noodles were really good. The oyster sauce on the beef was very creamy and flavorful and the chicken, while i didn't get any pineapple chunks, still had the flavor mixed in. The only downside was the egg rolls. They were crispy and hot because they made them fresh for me, but they had a kind of doughy texture after the crispy start. I was also sad that they didn't give any sweet and sour sauce with them. The whole meal was only $12 so that was an amazing value. I really hope people come and give them lots of business!! read more

This is a newer place that opened up in town recently. It reminds me of a Panda Express, but more authentic. They have plenty of options to choose from and you can have up to 3 different sides while building your combination meal. We each got a 3 side combo meal so it allowed us to try a decent amount of their offerings. The food is good and portions are generous for what they charge. I enjoyed the spicy chicken, crispy pork belly, mapo tofu, and string beans. I liked that it also have you the option to have a side of cold dish and a soup/drink with your combo meal. Finally stopped in with the family to grab some takeout and we were greeted by the friendly staff and patiently waited on as we decided what to try from the wide range of choices (see photos). The fried rice, chicken with pineapple, and beef with zucchini mushroom earned my kids' approval. I really enjoyed the fried homemade noodle, the three cup chicken and crispy pork belly. While there are many clean tables and you can dine in, this is not a fancy place. For the price point, I don't know why anyone would complain or think otherwise. While I can see the concern of food sitting out for too long, they seem to have a steady flow of customers and was able to quickly make more when we ordered more noodles. So happy we saw the grand opening sign after getting groceries at asian family market! Everyone was super kind and helpful and we totally had a feast. The combo menu can look a bit confusing at first, "toppings" are the equivalent of entrees at the Panda chain (beef and chicken standards as well as mapo tofu and other spicier fare). Delicious handmade noodles as the base (what they call an entree here) and we splashed out and got the combo that included the cold dish and very glad we got the spicy cucumber salad. What a great place! I've always wondered why there weren't more of those types of Chinese restaurants where the food is ready, like Panda Express, but not Panda Express. Down in southern California you can't go a block without bumping into one but I can't find any in the Portland area. But Luke's is that type of place! Don't be concerned of food sitting out forever - this place seems to make their dishes in smaller batches and so the turnover of food seems high. All the dishes I've had here have been great. I might legitimately be addicted to their crispy pork belly. I don't think I've had a dish here that I haven't liked, and I've tried probably about 3/4 of the menu so far. Plus the owner/operators of this place are always so nice and kind. you can tell they really take pride in their restaurant. Lastly the prices are terrific - you can get an a la carte size of their dishes (more than enough for 2 people) for about $12. can't beat that these days! read more

WOW! My husband and I decided to try this spot out for lunch. It did not disappoint!! The food was fresh, upon waking in the lady behind the counter noticed that the food sitting there looked a bit old. She told us not to worry as they will make a fresh batch for us. Which was the kindest thing ever asa we didn't even ask or thought that!! We ordered the hand pulled noodles, fried rice, 3 cup chicken, spicy chicken, spicy tofu, spicy beef, the two cold dishes of beef and chicken and the hot and sour soup. Every dish was AMAZING!!! It was so good and flavorful. Lukes literally has THE BEST HOT&SOUR SOUP!! I've been craving it ever since. Its the perfect balance of sourness and savory. I told my husband that if I am ever craving hot & sour soup. This is the only place to get it no where else would even compare. We plan on making another trip to eat here again. A couple weeks ago we meant to order LoMein to go from Chinatown but stumbled in Luke's with curiosity. Since they are very new and so I guess it's our mistake to give it a try. Spicy beef dish worse than Panda. Curry fish balls are from frozen. What they called "handmade noodle" it's not hand-shaved although it tasted ok and better with chili oil they provided. Walnut shrimp could be better if it's not served cold. Sweet and sour soup was the only thing I approved. Over all their food is like typical American Chinese restaurants except the price. You better off going to those 9.99 lunch menu restaurants. We went Sunday evening and food looked tired especially fried rice. Again couldn't help compare to Panda which is A LOT fresher and tastier. Very low bar here. The most disappointing thing is right after we decided which combo to order, they grabbed plastic box and started scooping. Well it didn't seem like a good choice for dine-in containers. So much single use plastic and make me feel sick of supporting the business. Your decor is nice. Please make food presentable. 2 Stars for being new and I can see the family is trying hard to have their own business. And also for the cleanliness. Love decor and furnishings. It is done beautifully. Food is a no-no. I hope you will survive being around Chinatown and Little Lamb. But please come up with some specialties and more sophisticated items. My suggestions are: 1. Either get rid of hot trays, or do all you can eat buffet like Indian restaurants. What you are doing right now is like mall food courts which look cheap and hard to find any appealing. 2. The place is roomy, neat with simple decor. We ordered the signature beef noodle soup, fried rice, noodle and 5, 6 dishes. They were excellent. I especially love coconut shrimps, spicy beef and eggplant. The foods were fresh and delicious with very generous portions. The service was excellent. I'm totally impressed!!! She served me the eggs and did not tell me it's made with sugar until I started eating it. I immediately went to ask why she didn't tell me they added sugar to the eggs, she just said sorry but refused to fix the issue. I asked nicely if she would give me something to replace it. This place itches my craving for beef noodle soup. The main entrees remind me of 99 ranches take out area and are priced very well. I'll have to come back and try those! I can say that the cold beef salad and honey mayo shrimp are excellent and while the noodle soup is a little bare of toppings, the base flavor is great and the beef is tender. As a former owner of two restaurants, the best advice I can give to Luke's owner is to shut down right now and never even think of going into the restaurant business. He seemed like a very nice guy but he literally knows zero about running a restaurant. Less than zero if that is possible. Every day he stays open he will lose more money. Take my advice, shut it NOW and cut your losses. You will never never never make a dime in this business. NEVER will you make a single penny so shut it now. Fyi, they must have decided right away that making homemade handcut noodles was too much hassle because the noodles I had were definitely not homemade. Also, how do you run out of broccoli on Friday at 5pm with a grocery store 100 yards away. Togo orders use so many plastic containers that there is literally no way to make any profit. Some of the containers were high quality and expensive but some were the thinnest cheapest junk causing the food that I did get to spill all over itself. The overhead lights were glaringly bright scaring away any potential in house diners. Forgot to give me second bag of food even after I asked them to check to see if everything was in the one bag they did give me. All of the food was cold. It is all premade and sitting in steam tables that obviously do not work very well. The deli section at Safeway is 5 times better. The orange chicken was at least edible but not even half as good as Safeway or Winco. Beef quality less than awful. Beef was tough and chewy with tendons in slices. Most cooks in Chinese restaurants use a procedure called velveting to tenderize meats but this is obviously not done here. Shrimp quality was very high and cooked well except for sickly sweet sauce on it. Giving that much shrimp at that price is a sure money loser for them. Also, I see how they tried to price the menu, but pricing white rice at 7 bucks as an ala carte side dish is just nutty. All of the other food looked tired and dried out . I know they have green onion in house so no reason the mapo tofu had none. They also do not know how to use the POS register. Please do yourself the biggest favor you will ever do yourself in your entire life. I promise you it is the best decision. Just shut down now and never even think twice about being in the food biz. read more

It's 6PM. Over half the trays were empty. Those that weren't the food looked dry or "worn". They didn't have what we wanted, but we decided to try anyway. Nope...no flavor, did not taste good. I overheard the man behind the counter tell a group of young ladies "We like Panda, but better". Um No---Panda Express at least has 90% of their trays full. They served our food in plastic to-go containers - so much for going green. Granted they've only been open 4 days, but trays should not be empty during the dinner hour.
