Excellent service. Excellent food. We thought the tofu yakisoba and spicy with kale noodle soup best ever. Wonderful Patio. And they have a punch card!

I love that this place is walking distance from my childhood home! I walked over here on a rainy December night. The spicy tonkotsu ramen was rich and life-giving after walking through the cold. The pork and egg were perfectly cooked and tender, and the flavor of the broth was the perfect amount of spicy and rich. It really brought me back to Japan! The folks that run the place were incredibly kind and provided quick service. They even have a large TV to project football games, so it's a great place to enjoy a beer as well. I will definitely be back with more folks next time.

Kozan ramen is a cute ramen spot tucked into forest heights area. It's on the smaller side, but also has adequate seating outside. The interior is randomly full of TVs. The service overall was attentive and friendly. I got the spicy tonkatsu ramen with tofu. The tofu had a great spongy texture and I enjoyed all the veggies on top. The egg was nicely soft-boiled. The actual broth was slightly disappointing as it didn't have the deep umami flavor I typically expect in a tonkatsu broth.

I wanted something warm on this rainy day and this place was close by. Ordered the veggie ramen and it did not disappoint. The broth was flavorful, fresh veggies/noodles , and the yolk from the soft boiled egg was cooked to perfection. The server very friendly. 10/10 would recommend.

This place exceeded my expectations. I ordered take out with a peckish appetite, and was blown away. The interior of the restaurant and the menu are certainly an interesting design/vibe, but the presentation of the food was beautiful and tasted as good as it looked. I got the Tonkatsu ramen, and returned with friends the next day to get the spicy version, and was equally impressed. Each element of the dish had me wanting more, especially the egg! 10/10 would recommend, some of the best ramen I've had in my life, ain't no joke.

    Chicken Karaage

Decided to try this place for takeout as it's very close to our place. Boy were we surprised!! For the four of us, we ordered the edamame, gyoza, and chicken karaage for starters. For entree we had veggie miso ramen, chicken curry, and chicken yakisoba. We also got 2 Thai teas. Picking it up was easy and they were so helpful and nice, even helping to bring drinks out! I'm not even kidding, everything was amazing! The chicken karaage was crispy, delicious and came with amazing dip. Gyoza was flavorful and perfect texture. The ramen was delicious, I especially liked how the mushrooms were cut up so you got them more distributed in every bite. The chicken curry had rich flavor and the chicken well breaded and crispy. Yakisoba was generous with lots of veggies (pic below is after we'd eaten quite a bit ). We were all so happy and had a fabulous meal. Seriously, don't sleep on this place!! We're so excited it's opened nearby. Will be back for more soon and often!

Absolute gem in this neighborhood. The soup was perfect, flavorful without being salty. The ramen was cooked just right. Family own and very kind. Highly recommended for rainy or sunny days, but fantastic for rainy cold days. We ordered the spicy ramen and the garage chicken over rice. Has menus for both adults and kids. Enjoy!

The beef shoyu ramen was soooo delicious! I highly recommend this ramen place- it's my new favorite! The server was a kind lady and the interior was fun cozy vibes for rainy day!

Brand new place just opened up in Forest Heights. The Ramen was thoughtfully prepared, service was homey, and it's a nice place to have a meal (including outdoor tables). They even have a gluten-free Ramen option.

While a few things stood out, the meal as a whole didn't quite hit the high marks I was hoping for. Here is how it broke down: The Starters (The Highlight): Karaage (Fried Chicken): This was easily the best part of the meal. The pieces were large, juicy, and had a great, ultra-crispy crunch on the outside. Takoyaki: Decent texture and well-presented on a long plate with plenty of bonito flakes, making it a solid appetizer to share. The Mains (A Bit Average): Spicy Ramen: The noodles had a good chew, but the broth lacked the deep, rich complexity you expect from a really stellar ramen. Even with the spicy paste mixed in, the flavor profile felt a bit flat. Chashu Don (Rice Bowl): While it was a generous portion packed with chopped chashu and minced meat, it ended up tasting a bit monotone after a few bites and could have used more balance or a punchier sauce. Overall, it's a fine spot if you want a quick, filling meal, but the flavors didn't quite wow me enough to make it a standout. Solid, but nothing mind-blowing.

I ordered the red miso, and there was sugar snap peas and asparagus, which is unusual. The individual ingredients themselves were fine but as a whole, it didn't taste like miso or spicy ramen. The overload of vegetables didn't seem to belong in a typical miso ramen dish (my go-to order) and rendered the broth quite bland. My husband ordered the black shoyu ramen, which was pretty one-note. Ota Tofu is one of my favorite spots in Portland for their amazingly fresh tofu, and it's right across from this ramen shop. Sadly, the tofu they used here was fried to a crisp, lost most of its flavor and had an unpleasant, sharp texture.

If you're not downtown, they also have a smaller location on the east side! To start I got the takoyaki, or fried octopus balls. It was crispy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside, with a tender and chewy piece of octopus, topped with a sweet sauce and fish flakes. Yum!! For my main, I wanted to try one of their broth-less udons and chose one of the specials, the Mentaiko kama-tama Udon--house-made flat udon noodles tossed in and onion oil, bonito, and soy dashi sauce. The noodles are topped with Men-taiko (spicy Tarako caviar), soft egg, tobiko, tempura puffs, green onions, and nori. I also added ikura (as recommended). I've never had flat udon noodles or broth-less udon but I'm forever changed. The minimal broth allows the toppings to be the stars of the show, and here was no exception. The flavors were complex, but balanced, and the variety of textures kept me coming back for another bite. The soy dashi sauce was full of umami and a subtle spicy kick, the fish eggs added pops of saltiness, and the tempura puffs and green onions added some crunch and offset the richness from the other toppings. The house-made noodles also made a huge difference, they were chewy but tender, and soaked up the soy dashi perfectly. I could not recommend Shigezo Izakaya enough!

The kitchen brings out steaming bowls incredibly fast, filled with rich broths and excellent toppings with an efficient, straightforward dining style. Tonkotsu Shoyu (4/5): A deeply comforting and classic bowl of ramen. They offer a generous portion of perfectly cooked noodles paired with plenty of fresh vegetables like spinach, green onions, and mushrooms. The soft-boiled egg was perfectly yolky, but the dish would've been elevated even further with a slightly more generous serving of chashu pork. Tonkotsu Red (5/5): A unique variation for those who love a bit of heat. It shares the same chewy noodle and vegetable foundation as the Shoyu, but has a spicy broth that builds and ramps up the more you slurp. The heat was a distinct, subtle numbing sensation reminding me of Sichuan peppercorns, creating an incredibly flavorful and unique twist on a traditional tonkotsu base. Logistics Tip: This is a fast and casual self-service setup where you walk right up to the counter upon entering to order from the menu displayed on the wall. Nothing in terms of more complex eg. wheat-y or grain-y notes. The chasu was a bit on the lean and dry side, although the fatty part melted in your mouth, which was good. I hate when it's chewy. I liked the curry and rice a lot. The pork had a nice texture that was fun to chew. It had some bite to it. It also felt meaty and satisfying. The rice was cooked well too. But unfortunately the bowl was super small. It's a $4 add-on to the curry that you can finish in like 3-5 spoonfulls. Maybe that's not terrible as an add-on; I dunno. The line was out-the-door and moved slowly. It took forever to move through the line and order. Granted, it was like 6pm on a Saturday.
