I stopped in here for a farewell dinner after spending 10 days soaking up a Colorado summer. I've been coming to this area for seven years and somehow had never eaten here. Big mistake. The place was absolutely packed, which told me everything I needed to know. The hostess let us know only patio seating was available, but that worked out fine since it was noticeably quieter than the bustling dining room. I started with a medium margarita, chips, and salsa. That margarita had some attitude, and it paired perfectly with the spicy salsa and salty chips. Let's just say I was feeling optimistic about the rest of the meal. The combination dinners are the way to go if you want to try a little bit of everything. I ordered the shredded beef chimichanga. The flavor was on point, but I wish the shell had a little more crunch. My dining companions ordered an enchilada and tacos with chicken and ground beef. I sampled the chicken and wasn't sold, but the ground beef earned rave reviews. Our server, Mariana, was friendly, attentive, and somehow managed to stay on top of everything despite the dinner rush. The decor has dark, gothic Mexico City vibes that give the restaurant a ton of character. Definitely a Fraser gem. Surprised rated low. Everything was better than expected. The pain killer drink was delicious and did help with my ski pains. It's almost like a pina colada but not. Loved it. Had the tres amigos. It was so much food and all super tasteful. The steak is flavored so well it was a treat. Enchilada was awesome and the rellano was good. They served us quick. I really liked this place. I was in Winter Park with friends for the last snowboarding trip of the season and we drove by this place and the colorful mural grabbed my eye. The interior was very stylish as well. The food was authentic and reasonably priced and the drinks were strong and tasty. There were some guys outside building a patio which should be an awesome addition as the weather gets warm. I'll definitely come by again in the future! read more

Realizing that a lot of pictures of the food here are mine....maybe I should get busy on a review. I just stopped in today on Black Friday and the place is packed! Literally, there's a line now and no empty tables. The new owners have revamped the menu (which was always excellent), but the quality has improved with a little higher pricing. The meat quality is great, the margaritas are excellent, lots of fresh tasting ingredients! We usually eat here during any trip to the Grand county area. We love the food and the service! The new menu is missing a few things we especially liked like Colorado Pork green chili. My husband said it's replaced with a green tomatillo sauce....yikes! We also miss the pollo Vallarta dish. What's good? Well, just about everything we have ordered has been fresh and tasty. The caramel flan is the best I have had in my life! I also love the skinny margarita here! Carne Asada is probably my favorite of the menu choices, but like I said, you can't go wrong with this new menu! Parking lot out front is free, across from Safeway in Fraser. Many reviews here mention the rude servers and I have to agree. I could tell that all of the servers were busy, they were running around. There was even a sign on the door mentioning be patient and kind to the servers, but that is a two way street. Like another review mentioned they are not really accommodating with making orders customized (especially if you are vegetarian). They do have a vegetarian section of their menu. I ordered the enchiladas de espinaca (spinach enchilada) and it was ok, not amazing. Another member of our party ordered a vegetarian burrito - it came with steamed veggies that were mostly unseasoned. There were also a lot of flies, probably because the door is kept open to the outdoors. Would not return. read more

Who knew our favorite Mexican place in Lakewood is also owned (partially) by the amazing folks who also own and manage Azteca?!?!?! Total score! This was a great way to end a perfect day on the mountain. And, as always, I way prefer authentic Mexican food to any other. The chips were crispy, loved the cabbage blend offered with our salsa and the house margarita? Perfect. We were treated to Chili Colorado - perfectly cooked chunks of beef lounging in a spicy (keto friendly) red sauce. And if your all about the carbs, you'll also appreciate their enchiladas - I had the Suizas variety (tomatillo sauce and sour cream), also very tasty! So we almost always cook or eat pizza when visiting winter park. We took a chance and we're like let's try and maybe the kids will enjoy and they so did! I loved the place. The service felt family owned and fun. The staff was very attentive, chips and salsa are amazing! I loved every dish our table was served and the dishes are priced well along with they are massive even the kids dishes. I can eat a lot but honestly my husband and I could have shared a dish. The soup OMG was the BEST!! Order the soup.... Really order the soup. The tortilla soup was better then any soup I have had and it comes in a massive bowl. This was quite a find here in Fraser, CO. The food was delicious, but that is not the only thing that makes this restaurant stand out. Our son is highly allergic to peanuts. The first good thing - very good thing - is that the menu very clearly tells you the foods that contain peanuts. But above and beyond that, the restaurant's owner's wife, Clara, came to us personally, and assured us that she would supervise the cooking of our son's meal to make sure that there was no cross-contamination of peanuts with any part of his meal. We were so comforted by her attention to this. If I could give this restaurant a 50-star review, I would. Clara was concerned about our son's health and well being. Visited Azteca with a large party on a Friday night. We were greeted with a friendly face, however our server was not very friendly or accommodating. The general vibe that I got from him was that he did not want to be at work that day. We're all human, so I don't pass huge judgement on the lack of service. Maybe it was an off day. On to the food - I am vegan. Let me be clear - they are NOT vegan friendly, nor are they willing to accommodate whatsoever. Yes - traditional Mexican is not vegan friendly - FYI lard and chicken broth are the culprits. Not the restaurant's fault, especially when they want to keep to their authenticity. The server scoffed at me and suggested an iceberg salad. I ended up getting fajita with just veggies. Well - it was 85% onions, 3 mushrooms, and 3-4 pieces of peppers doused in what seemed like a gallon of vegetable oil. It was essentially inedible! Honestly - everyone else at the table (non-vegans) didn't seem too into their food either. Definitely could use some improvements in my opinion. read more

Lovely lunch at a Mom & Pop spot! My friend and I were staying across the street and heard good things about Azteca. Upon entry we were swiftly greeted and led to a table. I ordered Enchiladas Suizas and it was delicious! I scarfed it down, including the rice and beans! The chips and salsa were tasty as well. The salsa was very flavorful. One star down for the margarita, however, but only because it was just average in flavor. Coming from Texas where I've had my fair share of Mexican fare, I'd love to return! Had a craving for some tacos and Yelp pointed us to Azteca here in Fraser. The wife and I were happy we made this choice. The service was fine, the food was pretty good, the Margaritas were very good. We got right in, which in this day and age is always appreciated. Wasn't the best Mexican food, wasn't the absolutely worst. Food could use a bit of a workover. Food was lukewarm to warm to hot. Party of 8, some enjoyed their food, some didn't. Same with the margarita's. Waiter forgot a few requests. The menu is large and a bit all over the map with accompaniments and pricing. The food is good. This review focuses on customer service. First, I was surprised that $4.50 for guacamole produced a very small (salsa type) plastic ramekin. Second, the fajitas normally come with tortillas. Unfortunately, upon arriving home, it was realized that the beautiful fajitas dish came without tortillas. I called the restaurant and was told, "you can come and get it." Honestly, I expected some sort of store credit, offering, or plan to "make it right." I quickly realized that fajitas need tortillas. So, I traveled back to the restaurant, where they handed me four (only four) flour tortillas and an "I'm sorry...here you go." Response could have been better. The Azteca Mexican Restaurant was a nice surprise. It has an extensive menu at reasonable prices. The Rita's were good and reasonable price at $2.99 for a nice size goblet. It was May 5 so we celebrated Cinco de Mayo here. Wife and I split a fajita order for 1, which came with 4 tortillas ( most restaurants only give your 3). Besides the red sauce with the chips they also include a small dish of coleslaw. Ok, you would not think this is a good dish in a Mexican restaurant ( you normally think of coleslaw & BBQ), but this receipt was a real good twist on the normal slaw you get else where. For a small town place so far north of the Mexican boarded, this place was not a disappointment. I would go back to try other items. Note the pico sauce was spicy. Our waitress was very good. I had the vegetable and shrimp soup and it was good. They served the usual salsa, chips and guacamole which was decent.
