The ambiance is great, with trees painted on the walls and the. Branches and flowers mounted to the walls to give them a 3D feel, but it is a little bit cramped. The servers are all friendly, but the responsiveness is lacking. Finally, the food is not presented in a traditional hibachi fashion, so if you're hoping to get a show like Ooka or Benihana, you're not getting it here.
When we first arrived for our reservation we were asked if we wanted a table, or to sit at the bar. The tables don't get to watch the food get cooked, but the bar does, so we elected to sit at the bar. We ordered two of the hibachi meals, and two miso soups and the waited to watch our food get cooked in front of us. The bar sits directly across from the hibachi grills with a large glass pane in between, so there is zero interaction with the chefs. There were three grills that I saw, and honestly they're just cooking on them as they would be if they were cooking in the kitchen. We were expecting someone to come and cook our meal on the grill in front of us, but all we ever saw then cook was a large batch of vegetables, and then our food came out.
We never received utensils and had to ask several people, multiple times for them so we had to wait about 15 minutes from when our food came to even begin eating, and during that time we watched a younger cook cross contaminate food by cooking raw chicken and steak at the same time going back and forth with the same knife and fork and spatula. Someone is going to get salmonella poisoning.
Once we finally got our utensils and got to dig in we found everything but the vegetables, and soup to be bland, and over cooked. My medium rare steak was well done, our shrimp, chicken, and scallops were all dry and over cooked. The sauces were good, especially the mango habanero, that sauce alone is why I gave this more than one star.
My wife pointed out that it seems like they're trying to give a high end appearance, will using low quality ingredients. For example, I would expect udon noodles in soup, and chow mein noodles from the hibachi grill, but they both looked, and tasted like standard ramen noodles.
Overall we were disappointed in the experience, which was a bummer because it's so highly rated. I'm assuming we just came on an off night, but considering the quality of the ingredients that may not be the case.
Considering the price they're charging is on par with a place like Ooka, I would expect a similar experience, and quality of food, and this absolutely was not that and we will not be returning. read more
