Probably the best AYCE sushi spot in the area. I say this because the sushi was fresh. I normally order no rice rolls. They had a very unique menu. I was able to try all the no rice rolls and they were all fantastic. One dish that stood out to me was the seared nigiri tuna. I normally don't like tuna but this one had perfect texture and flavor. They have indoor and outdoor seating. And they have tvs for entertainment. They also have bar seating. There is a service charge of 15% that automatically goes to your check. I've been a loyal customer since 2014 but enough is enough. I've been going here for YEARS. I've seen new workers come and go and long time workers here. I've been coming here since the price was $17/person way back when. Now it's $40/person plus automatic gratuity? We used to eat the two of us for $45 and now that barely covers 1 person's meal. I don't know when it started to go downhill (probably when this place got greedy and started charging gratuity of service fees) I stuck with this place even when they started charging 15% gratuity and "forgot" to tell the customer so they would double tip. I stayed when it raised to 18%. I even stayed when the prices went up for AYCE. But lately when I go, the food is not as good. I'm not sure what changed. I've been to other sushi restaurants and their sushi is so much better. Even R91 is better and gets my sushi fix for 1/10 of the price. Sad to say I will not be back. Our first impression was that the restaurant was extremely busy, which usually makes me think the food must be good. When we walked in, the staff appeared to be finishing a quick meeting, so it took about two minutes before anyone acknowledged us. Since the restaurant was standing-room only, we ended up waiting in the doorway, unintentionally blocking people coming in and out. Once we were greeted and seated, we were served lemon water and asked if we wanted to do the all-you-can-eat option for $35 per person. It sounded like a good deal, but I wasn't hungry enough to justify it, so I ordered à la carte instead: a California Roll, an Unagi Avocado Roll, and the Chicken Katsu. The sushi was fresh and enjoyable overall. Unfortunately, the fried Chicken Katsu was a disappointment. The chicken was extremely tough and difficult to chew, making it an unpleasant part of the meal. Because we were seated near the entrance, the dining experience itself wasn't very comfortable. The restaurant was so crowded that customers and servers were constantly brushing against my chair, bumping into me, or tripping over the chair legs as they squeezed by. It made it difficult to relax and enjoy the meal. On the positive side, the restaurant was nice and cool on a hot day, and the sushi was definitely the highlight of the visit. However, between the cramped seating and the disappointing Fried Chicken Katsu, it wasn't an experience I personally would want to repeat. For me, this was a solid 2.5 out of 5 stars. Back After 10 Years -- Did It Still Hold Up? I used to eat at Sushi Asahi - Riverside every Friday for lunch, so after nearly 10 years, I was genuinely excited to return while I was back in the area. We arrived just after the lunch rush and initially found plenty of open tables, which made for a relaxed start to our AYCE sushi experience. The ambiance was good: Lots of seating outside as well. Ordering on your phone was also easier to keep track of what we ordered and still had coming. We kicked things off strong with the Baked Mussels, Diablo and Volcano roll and the limited-to-one-order-per-person carpaccios. As the restaurant filled up, the energy picked up and so did the wait times between rounds. Pretty typical for a busy all-you-can-eat spot, but worth noting if you come during peak hours. Once we moved into the nigiri portion, we both felt the fish quality dipped slightly compared to the opening rounds. Nothing bad at all -- just not quite on the higher end of sushi we've had recently. Of course, that didn't stop us from ordering six more rolls... which officially did us in. We managed to narrow it down to five pieces of Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna and Salmon before finally tapping out. I had a server with the worst attitude I have ever experienced at a restaurant in years. I was told her name was Jenn or Jenny She was shockingly rude. I wanted to pay for my leftovers because I ordered too much food, and she kept threatening to charge me. I literally wanted to pay extra for a to go box. She literally said I couldn't talk anyone but her at the restaurant since the manager wasn't there. Servers need to at least try to treat customers like customers. It seemed like she was having a bad day from the moment we walked in, but that's not an excuse to be rude and self-justified. She started accusing me of having a bad attitude because I wanted to talk to another server. Insane! When you are rude to your customers, they will be upset. My favorites included the spicy tuna with crispy rice, yellow tail carpaccio, rainbow roll, and their large fried shrimp. I also ordered the honeymoon roll which actually had no rice which was good as I am watching my carb count. Basically, each round of orders are made fresh and you can order another round after 10 minutes. What I like about this place is there is no limit to rounds so that was nice. Their gyoza was lightly fried and delicious. We got the calamari but it wasn't as good as the other dishes. My hubby likes the karaage and katsu but I feel like the sauce was too much. Next time I will ask for sauce on the side. I was quite thorougly surpised at how light and tasty the mango avocado salad was. Overall, great memorable experience thanks to AEY. First time eating here, went for the AYCE on the weekend for lunch time. During the week, it's $30 a person and $35 for dinner, but $35 all day on the weekends. The restaurant is pretty open-spaced with lots of tables which are pretty close together. TVs for viewing and they have physical menus with a QR code you can scan and order on your phone and they will bring it you, which is pretty cool. They have lots of fresh roll options which unique combinations and classic rolls you would expect. They also have Nigiri, but my only complaint would be that the Nigiri's are packed with rice and that means the fish to rice ratio is off (it's mostly rice). Besides that, the fish is flavorful and tastes very fresh and for $35, is an amazing price! They also have plenty of appetizers like Calamari and shrimp which were pretty good. The service was fast and easy, but they do limit the carpaccio to one order per person. I saw reviews complaining about the service but we came when it was packed and did not have any problems. Lastly, the restaurant is located in a big plaza with plenty of parking and next door to Albertsons so parking was quick and easy and it was nice to stop by the market after. So this is my 3rd time here, I'm OG from San Diego and was visiting the area for the day and decided to go here, first 2 times the food was good but customer service was slow, I went on a Sunday and it was empty and seemed dead we got the AYCE which for the price of $30 it's a good deal my only problem was that they took long to get our order, then when we did order our food it came at a good pace but the waitress came over to inform us that we ordered to much food and if we wanted to pause our order which made us feel terrible and big, and at which point we did and the problem was the first couple rolls came out nice but the last 4 we got was Just all rice!! We where so full just off rice and it was so bad that the rice was legit bulging out of the seaweed so we didn't finish it all and had to pay $1 for each piece, we would of been fine if it was a normal amount of rice but this was just a crazy amount and they must of done it on purpose to fill us up, The drinks, we ordered the soju cocktails and for $8 it was wayyy over priced for what seemed like 6 oz of liquid at that price I can just order a pitcher of beer, the ambiance was quite and the music was good but the staff took so long to take our order, we didn't know who our waiter was and they didn't check up on us often and mine you it was practically empty and the judgmental looks they had on their faces when we got our food, yeah I don't think I'll be going back, but the biggest thing was the amount of rice they put in our rolls so we would get full was a shame. read more

Overall, I have been a customer here for around 8 years now and every time I decide to eat here it progressively gets worse. Sushi is my favorite thing to eat so whenever my birthday rings around, I decide to eat here. After my last couple of experiences, I decided not to continue coming here for a few reasons: The wait times are extremely inaccurate. Every time you walk up to check in, it mentions a time that will be double of what it says. For example, my wait time said it would be 18-22 minutes for one person, it doubled and I waited for 48 minutes to get seated just by myself. When I got seated, I got seated at the booth with 3 empty seats to my left which confused me as to why I hadn't gotten called if that many spaces were open at the booth. I ordered off my phone and at first I ordered sashimi because I was pretty hungry and wanted something to come quick. The chefs made it pretty quick, but I saw it sit at the booth for a while until someone decided to pick it up and give it to me. I wanted to pick it up and grab it myself because of how long it took for someone to recognize it was mine. The food was okay, and I don't think it was worth the price I paid for. I had been sitting down and eating my food when I started hearing one of the employees behind me saying "Can I leave?" I thought to myself; "Wow, what is going on?" This employee kept following what I would assume is her boss asking if she could leave for a solid 20 minutes. I have no clue what happened after. It felt like the people working there didn't want to be working there. I sat there hoping for some hospitality or someone to check up on me while I was eating, and I had to ask to simply refill my water. When I ate here, it was $35.99, and they added a gratuity fee.. For what? At times I wish that I had asked to waiver it because of the continuous neglect I experienced every time I came here this past year. So my total was $45, which I personally feel is not worth the experience. Seating, Food, and Service are not up to the same great standard as it was last year or the year before that. I came here for 4 of my birthdays and every time I decided to eat here it progressively gets worse with eating here. I will not return, instead I will give another sushi place my business. If anyone wants to try this place, I hope they know that they will wait an unreasonable amount of time for anything in this place. I wish you guys well, but I truly am disappointed with the circumstances of the place. I hope that you guys treat other customers with more care and consideration. read more

The fish is always fresh, the quality never disappoints, and the albacore has become my absolute favorite. What really sets Asahi Sushi apart is the service. Since gratuity is included, every staff member helps take care of every table. My drinks are constantly being refilled, empty plates are cleared right away, and someone is always making sure we have everything we need. It feels like a true team effort, and I've never felt ignored. I also love that you order directly from your phone. It makes the experience so much more efficient because you're never waiting to flag someone down to place another order. Even when the restaurant is packed--which it usually is--the food comes out surprisingly fast unless you're with a very large group. For around $40 all-you-can-eat, I honestly think it's one of the best values around. The biggest compliment I can give this restaurant is that I never used to like raw sushi until I came to Asahi Sushi. Now I crave it and keep coming back. Five visits in one month later, I can confidently say this has become my favorite sushi spot. This is my absolute favorite sushi spot! I always find myself craving their mango salad and seared lemon pepper salmon. The fish itself tasted very fresh and great quality. It was so great to be able to taste the different flavors of each fish. The rolls were also very creative and just the perfect ratio of flavor and textures. I ordered pickup by phone and was told 25 min for it to be ready. That is normally the timeframe for this restaurant so no issues. But I get there 30 minutes later and was told my order wasn't ready yet. It ended up being 1 hour and 10 minutes before the food was ready. I ordered 2 Golden California rolls and 2 Golden Tigers, that was it. I understand they were busy, it was packed in the restaurant, pretty crazy for a weeknight. They apologized and said they were slammed with customers so the food orders fell behind. Had I known it would take that long, I would have cancelled the order.
