Went to Fuji last night for happy hour and it was SO good! We got the kabli fries, sashimi, a dragon roll, and a couple of cocktails. Everything was fresh, perfectly cooked, and felt really thoughtfully and lovingly crafted. The service was great too. Everyone was friendly and attentive, and the whole experience was just really enjoyable. Honestly, not a single miss. 10/10 recommend! There is a young baker trained by the earlier baker who retired. Jonas has turned his art into perfection. His chocolate cake is excellent and his Vanilla Bean Cream Brulee is outstanding too! Fuji is a contemporary Japanese restaurant that serves delicious plates of wonderful food. They can cater special occasions at the restaurant or make party trays to take out. Happy Hour is every day fro 3-6 pm and on Wednesdays Happy Hour is all day. I will preface this by saying I should come back and judge based off their main menu offerings, however they offer a separate brunch menu and that is what I had for my visit at fuji sac. We orderd the loco moco and breakfast fried rice with scrambled eggs. The eggs were deliciously scrambled. The fried rice was ok. The big concern was my burger patty was really burnt. The consistency and flavor of the gravy was interesting. We were the first visitors of the day so I'd say while it eventually filled up, not sure the reason behind burned food. Also, with a full bar, bloody marys were not available. Really unfortunate for brunches. However, I understand this is mainly a sushi joint? Spacious restaurant with extensive happy hour menu but food misses the mark. We came on a Tuesday for the happy hour menu. A lot of options to choose from, with decent discounts off the main menu. We got the ryokucha berry cocktail and kitaku suru. Both were definitely on the sweeter side of cocktails, but decent. We ordered a number of things off the happy hour menu. Sushi quality wasn't the best. Reminiscent of supermarket sushi. The brussels sprouts were pretty good but very salty and eventually very heavy. The kalbi fries tasted exactly like we expected, also nothing crazy. We also got the cod taco and the poke taco to try. Both fairly bland. Overall, the menu is extensive but food quality and taste were just okay. Service was great though, our server was super nice and the food came out really fast. We continue to visit Fuji as one of our favorite date spots and a fun place to bring friends. They offer a great happy hour and no matter what time we've visited the experience has been consistent, friendly, and the food has been delicious. There is a designated parking lot across the street, so it's easy to grab a spot and walk over. Just be careful because the parking spots in the lot aren't well marked and it's easiest to just park neatly next to other cars. We like to sit at the bar if there's just two of us, and will grab a table when we have friends. If you want to make sure you have a table, you can make a reservation ahead of time, but we usually don't need to wait too long. Our favorites are the brussel sprouts, karaage chicken, and their nigiri. We also really enjoy the sukiyaki, it's really flavorful and perfect for cooler or rainy weather. We still need to come by for brunch, but we've heard good things. The team here is always friendly, and we've been in enough that some of them recognize us now. read more

I have fond memories of frequently coming to the Fuji's that was previously located in this very same building with my family. So while this Fuji's is not at all related to the original business, I was excited to try the food here. I tried the box with vegetable tempura and salmon misoyaki. The food tasted good and I thought the batter was good on the tempura. I was however shocked at the portion of salmon they give. It was maybe five bites worth of food, and I was not full after eating my meal. They did provide a good size serving for the children's meal though, which balanced out my unhappiness I felt after receiving my meal. I also ordered the matcha pancakes off the brunch menu; it was not cooked. I could tell upon cutting it and the batter sticking to the knife that it likely wasn't cooked. I tried, and sure enough, uncooked...guess I should've informed the staff at the time but my little one wasn't happy so I just wanted to eat and get out. Based on the look of the pancakes, it appeared to just be a regular pancake with some matcha powder mixed in - so nothing special and something you could easily do at home. While service was overall friendly, they left us sitting for a very long time while they coint have more than a couple other tables. They had to be flagged down for us to order. They also forgot things to bring things (rice, miso soup) out that came with the dish. I think a 3.5 rating would be fair, but I guess I'm feeling generous. I would come back, but not in a hurry (and would not order the tiny, tiny salmon serving again. Or the uncooked pancakes). read more

A fantastic happy hour located off Broadway. Happy hour is all day on Wednesdays. There is a large parking lot for patrons just across the street and behind the Asian grocery store, along with street parking. I tried the sashimi platter, karaage, and vegetable maki. All were great but at a sushi restaurant I recommend getting the fish. Service was friendly although I noticed afterwards that we got charged full price for one of the drinks. For the prices and quality I would definitely recommend happy hour here...just double check the bill first. read more

Venturing the cold, we picked up a to-go order of the hot udon, sukiyaki, and pickled veg. We sped home and dove headfirst into our soups. Yum, yum, and YUM! My family and I rented out the top private floor area for a birthday party on Saturday night for about 50 people. It was my first time ever checking out Fuji Sacramento and I was really impressed by the interior and how organized everything was for a private party. We had food served buffet style with salad, green beans, Gyoza, Chicken Katsu, white rice and 2 different types of sushi. Everything was pretty good - no complaints except that they don't use any kind of warmers or chaffing dishes which I thought was odd. We also did a cash bar and they had Japanese beers as well as these really good hard ciders. The bartender did a great job and was very friendly! Staff were very accommodating and helpful when planning everything for the whole evening. They made all of the details smooth and easy! Fuji's has reopened on Broadway, and I gave it a try today. The dining area and bar looks good. Seating is comfortable, and I had the lunch combo, starting with miso soup, and lunch included two choices. I chose sesame chicken and vegetable tempura. It also came with rice, two gyoza, and two pieces of California roll. I really like the seamed chicken, with a crispy batter and moist chicken inside. Could use more sauce for flavor though. The tempura , gyoza and California roll were also good, and very fresh. The miso soup was good, but more sodium than the usual. We attended a private event in the upstairs banquet room. Decor is rather plain but we were there for a celebration so it didn't really matter. The servers were accommodating especially with those needing extra assistance. The food was great. We started off with apps which consisted of sashimi and California roll w/unagi. Yum to the max. For dinner we had salad, gyoza, veggies, teriyaki chicken and salmon. The gyoza had a great filling but I wish it was warm. The teriyaki chicken was full of flavor and very tender. The salmon on the other hand was out of this world! My only recommendation would be to use chaffing dishes to keep the food a lil warm but since most of it can be eaten at room temperature as if in a bento box it all worked out well. Fuji was fantastic! The whole place, including the outside keeps a very consistent modern Japanese vibe. They have a good sized bar but the seating is separated a bit so it's not too loud for conversation. The service was fast and our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. The food is definitely Japanese with your sushi, nigiri and noodles but they have fun "street food" like tacos as well. Fuji's occupies the old Iron Grill spot on Broadway. Fuji's happy hour is quite impressive because most of the regular menu is included. We tried the calamari $11, lumpia $8, honey macadamia shrimp $13, truffle brussels $9, Spider Roll $14 and the Rainbow Roll $9. From the bar we had the Berry drink and the margarita $10 ea. I think all their fried appetizers are frozen. The honey macadamia shrimp were house made but the flavor was lacking. However the sushi and truffle Brussels were excellent. The drinks were tasty and strong aa well. Our server/bartender Joe sad his fav appetizer is the ribs so we are looking forward to ordering them on our next visit. read more

The macadamia nut shrimp was what drew me here, the "street foods" were very appealing so I went with the kali tacos and truffle fries. Then I felt like I had to try sushi in a sushi restaurant so I tried a few nigiri. Glad I didn't order the chirashi bc i would've been disappointed. The nigiri alone was ok but I could tell the rice to fish ratio was not the way I liked it and the rice was more on the mushy side lacking in flavor I'm used to. We were wanting to try someplace Japanese to reminisce Tokyo & this place hit a lot of the nostalgia out of the park! It's very neat and tidy with beautiful ethnic decor, an umbrella storage basket at the front, amazing kind and accommodating staff, tasty food (with my personal favorite being the dynamite roll), and nice ambiance with Japanese and American music. Not sure how I graced the restaurant overlords but the day I went, all the street food was 50% off. A completely fried dinner it is! We ordered the macadamia shrimp, Fuji Tempura, fried artichoke hearts, and karaage. Everything was well fried and had plenty of side dishes and sauces, but I will say, nothing particularly wowed me. The fried artichoke hearts were a little more unique and you can taste a bit of the briny solution they come in. I would definitely pass on the karaage here. There are much better places for that. I would love to try their sushi offerings and other non-fried items. They have quite a number of staff members here for a fairly spacious restaurant. I recently tried Fuji in the Tower District, and I came for their all day Happy Hour deal on Wednesdays. My partner and I walked in, and we were seated in the main dining room. We were pleasantly surprised by how spacious it was inside, and we were seated quickly despite walking in without a reservation. Pro tip: it may be worth making a reservation through Toast as it tends to get busier around the dinner hour. We ordered exclusively off the happy hour menu, and we started with the fujimame for the table, salt and pepper split wings, kalbi fries, 7 pc sashimi, and spicy tuna maki. I also ordered the calamansi margarita, which tasted bland and watered down. The fish made up for the cocktail with its fresh quality, but portions felt small and expensive for what it was. The food the boys - all 10 of them each ordered 2 entrees each and some side bites to share. There was nothing left! There is street parking available and a designated parking lot across the street. We came here for happy hour (M-F 3:00-6:00 and all day Wednesdays). Tuesday is also taco Tuesday, so $2 tacos. Thus it was quite busy and loud in there. We ordered a variety of food to share. We started with the tacos- kalbi, cod, poke, and mahi mahi. My favorite was the cod, which was fried. None of us cared for the kalbi, especially because the kimchi slaw on top was over fermented. I thought we ordered the kalbi fries, but we got the truffle nori fries. It was perfectly fine. The crispy calamari batter was quite thick. The rainbow roll was my favorite. I didn't care for the dynamite roll because it was deep fried. We also ordered the nigiri combo. I was quite full afterwards. Be aware that happy hour prices don't apply toward to go food. My friend wanted to order some food to take home, but the bill wasn't discounted.
