Had a wonderful, delicious lunch here on Halloween. We arrived at 1 pm and there was only one other party. During our stay, only one other food courier arrived for pick up. I hope this restaurant does well but ever since Aura left, this spot has been a revolving door. The staff are incredibly friendly and warm. The decor is a bit more modern than other places before it, especially considering the age of the building itself. Also a note, they do take Apple Pay but they do not take American Express. Offerings: - Volcano Roll: Such a fun and entertaining spectacle. The roll itself is simple and a bit one note, but still delicious. - Snow White Roll: A very simple roll, with less of all the sauces and extra toppings. The flavor of fish and rice really shine through here. Delicious! - Master Roll: exactly what you expect for an Americanized sushi restaurant. Covered in sauces and includes so many great textures and flavors.

My friend and I dined here as we've both never been. It wasn't very busy, but the restaurant was clean and the waitress was friendly. I had the sesame chicken and sashimi bento box. It was delicious! The sesame chicken was freshly fried and crispy and the sauce wasn't overpowering. The salad was generously dressed, which I liked. The sashimi was fresh and fatty. My friend had the chirashi bowl and enjoyed it as well. I would return and recommend.

Went here again today and as always superb food and service! This time there was a crowd for lunch, good thing we arrived at 11:45. Daisy showed up shortly after we arrived. Highly recommend, the sashimi and rolls are freshly made to order. Very nice and cozy restaurant.

I stopped by here after a show and was seated right away. The woman I'm assuming was either the manager or owner and she was very friendly. She recommended a roll to me that was super tasty. I thought the prices are pretty average and I would've ordered more if I was hungrier but what I did get was very fresh. The ambiance is super casual and it seemed like there were some people calling to make reservations so I'm sure that's an option too. Overall I definitely recommend you check this place out. Definitely a hidden gem downtown!

Kumi Sushi is such a cute little neighborhood spot in Sacramento. I got the bento box and it was a really good deal for the price. The sushi tasted fresh and the rolls were solid -- average price is around $18, which isn't bad at all. The place itself is small but cozy, and the service was good. Everyone was friendly and quick. Overall, it's a nice spot if you're looking for fresh sushi without breaking the bank. I'd definitely come back!

Great food, friendly service, would recommend!! I have gone 2 times and food has been consistently good. Look forward to going again!!

This is one of my favorite neighborhood sushi places. This used to be Aura which was a Korean/Japanese restaurant. I've always loved the space, but I think this place is a better fit. The owner is always very nice and accommodating. We usually get a few chef nigiri specials. The agedashi tofu is good. Sunomono is solid. What I like best about this place is they have fish specials. This is a good sign for a sushi place versus a place that has a static menu. I really like this place and I'll keep coming back.

Second time trying Kumi; first time was for takeout and I had a pretty good roll, but I always planned to dine in before forming a full opinion. For the record, the takeout packaging was superb and really left an impression that they care about aesthetics and quality. Kumi is in a really unsuspecting spot. It's tucked into the heart of Mansion Flats, surrounded by houses and apartments, and doesn't seem like much from the outside. But when you walk in, you step into a cozy, beautifully designed space that feels like something you'd find in Japan. Everything from the service (one woman was running the whole floor and doing an amazing job) to the aesthetic details of their takeout containers to dishware feels intentional and thoughtful. The plates, chopsticks, teapot all showed care in their image. They say we eat with our eyes first and using beautiful vessels to serve things enhances the overall experience. We started with the daily special: Chutoro Carpaccio. I believe that's from the belly of the tuna. It was fatty and fresh, a real step up from my usual order of pepperfin. For my main, I ordered the Secret Box, which is like a mini omakase-style box featuring nine different styles of sushi chosen by the chef. I've found that "chef's choice" at many sushi restaurants can be a way to pass off cheaper fish at higher prices, but this was the opposite. The Secret Box was hands down the best sashimi I've ever had in my life and excellent value for money. I didn't ask what anything was and just went off taste, using my knowledge to identify the pieces later. From top left to bottom right: salmon, tuna, and yellowtail--each in its purest form, super fresh and vibrant. Second row: seared beef with spring onion, full of umami and buttery richness; scallop with a light citrus glaze, my favorite of the night with an absolutely phenomenal flavor and texture; and seared salmon with chili crunch, a fun bite with great textures. Bottom row: albacore served over lemon, refreshing and hefty; a clean white fish I believe was Hirame; and finally what I think was Escolar, which had a nice chew while still being soft, delicate, and rich. Not 100% sure but I think I nailed most of them. It was a fantastic experience and I'll definitely be back. This was the freshest, most beautifully presented, and flavorful sashimi I've had in Sacramento or anywhere else. I believe they also offer a full omakase experience, but for someone who's never done that before, the Secret Box was a great entry point into trying really excellent and fresh pieces of sashimi. It probably could have been shared between 2 people but then again I easily put it all away. If any restaurant deserves being in the next Michelin Guide update it's Kumi.

I was visiting Sacramento to see some friends and they took me to Kumi after I told them that I wanted some sushi. I was simply blown away by their selection and quality of fish; not to mention that it was all so affordable. Each piece of fish was buttery and sweet and it just melted in the mouth. I highly recommend getting their omakase so you can try all their premium fish. We also tried their sake and it was pretty cool that they let us pick our own sake glass. I'll definitely be back, next time I visit Sacramento. Kumi is simply amazing.

Another fantastic meal. I think we have been here four times or so now! It's always a treat when we are in the area. Everything is so so so good, great recommendations, and fantastic hospitality. I truly love this place!

My second visit to Kumi and the quality remains the same. I love the truffle hamachi. The sauce pairs very deliciously with the hamachi...this is my "must order" item on future visits. I also enjoyed the shishito peppers with the spicy, peppery sauce. I cannot recall the name of the sushi roll...it was just okay. I prefer the assorted sashimi. It was very fresh and I enjoyed every bite. Kumi is definitely one of my favorite Japanese restaurants to visit.

One of my favorite restaurants changed and got this place earlier in the year. I didn't find out till recently. Daisy is the owner. So we went to check it out. The place is small and on the corner. They have street parking but in a downtown area may be hard to get at certain times. I found a spot a few doors down. I thought there was a line to get in but people were just standing at the corner talking. We didn't have a reservation and there were only a few tables of customers. Seated right away. We were greeted by Daisy and caught up a little. I wanted a sake and told her to get me something smooth. She brought me a Kikusui Funaguchi and it came in a small can. It was great and I liked it. I wanted to try the oysters but she was out. I would have to get them another time. I got the Chirashi Sushi. I wasn't disappointed , it was fresh and flavorful. Loved it. My wife tried the Agedashi tofu but it wasn't the same. It was like other places and she used to love the one Daisy had at her other restaurant. She said she could make it for my wife when she comes in again. Daisy said that the clientele here preferer this way. We got the garlic salmon which was good and tried one of the popular rolls a sake punch. It was pretty good and I liked it. A nice place and we will have to come back and try more food. Glad we found your place Daisy.

The fish was fresh, the portions were generous, and the overall value was excellent! By the way we're 3 person . The highlight for me was the medium sashimi platter. I was expecting the usual thin slices that most Japanese restaurants serve, but the sashimi here was thick-cut, fresh, and beautifully prepared. It definitely stood out and made a great first impression. Every dish we ordered was fresh, and the portion sizes were noticeably larger than what you typically get at other Japanese restaurants. If you're looking for fresh sashimi, generous portions, and great value for the price, I highly recommend Takeyo Table. I'll definitely be coming back. Environment 8/10 .

I think SacTown might operate on a slower schedule than I am used to, so 45 min won't be enough time if you decide to come here. Waitress was great and when I did tell her I needed to leave shortly after my meal was delivered, she closed me out promptly, so I appreciated that. She was also very pretty too, so naturally, I liked her. I am a sucker for good looking people haha. I didnt want to think too hard so I ordered the grilled saba (mackerel) lunch plate. It comes with miso soup, salad, white rice. Miso soup was good. Saba was good and I enjoyed most of it. Salad had a dressing that was a little too creamy for me, so I only had a few bites and there was lettuce, which freaked me out. There were a few shishito peppers and I devoured all of those. Overall, I really enjoyed having lunch here. The outdoor area is super nice and Id return to have another meal here. One star deducted because the parking situation is a bit problematic. I deducted another star because service was just a bit slow for me When I am back in SacTown, i'd come back to enjoy some of their sashimi and fresh seafood options.

Upscale sushi sounded great with how it it was this week. I had no memory of the quality or anything and wow I was just floored. We ordered 4 rolls and some sashimi and the scallop croquettes and everything was just divine. My only regret was that we couldn't actually eat more in one sitting. The Thai Telegraph Roll and the Firecracker were favorites with the added sauces. We also ordered the Sunshie and Spicy B, everything was a real compendium of flavor. Our friends said that the Thai Telegraph roll was surprisingly refreshing, and it was! The service was also great, they kept menus at the table so we could add more to our order if we wanted, and our pace was pretty slow since we were visiting with friends and the server checked in on us just enough. Bathrooms were super clean, it wasn't too loud to have a conversation and not freezing cold inside. It was a packed house too! We couldn't believe how full the reservations were for a Wednesday night. Next time we go, which I hope is this year.. i'd like to get a few more warm dishes and less rolls to try out. I'm really glad we chose this place and while it's definitely in that "special occasion" budget for us, i'd like to go back at least 1 more time, and not wait 10 years.

It's clean and modern inside, with a nice open feel despite having a pretty large capacity for the size! One of my friends shared the mystery box ($60) and an order of the ocean trout and scallop nigiri which come 2 pieces to the order. All of the fish was fresh, generously portioned, and beautifully presented. My favorites are probably the ocean trout, the scallop, and the salmon. I brought family in from the Bay Area to Chef Frank's, and it did not disappoint. The ambiance strikes that perfect balance--chill and casual, yet still elevated enough for a special occasion. We kicked things off with a mix of plain and spicy edamame, followed by two orders of my husband's favorite shrimp tempura and three orders of my go-to rainbow roll. Everything came out fresh and beautifully presented. A particularly special moment--my 88-year-old father made the trip to Sacramento after seven years (his first visit since my mom passed) and he truly enjoyed the beef/salmon bento box. That alone made the night meaningful. We also ordered additional specialty rolls with unagi and shrimp tempura for the non-celiac guests, and for our main event, the table indulged in three large sashimi platters. The fish was impeccably fresh, artfully arranged over ice--this is where they consistently shine. To top it all off, the birthday girls (my sister and my nephew's girlfriend) were treated to complimentary desserts--cheesecake and panna cotta--which was such a thoughtful touch. The ladies paired the evening with glasses of Cabernet, another personal favorite. Overall, it was a memorable night filled with great food, attentive service, and special family moments. Found this place on Yelp and since I haven't had sushi in a bit, this was the perfect pick. Pulled up and parked (which was pretty easy), the lot is small-ish maybe 20 spots or so. But today wasn't busy at all. We got in and sat at the bar. The AC was on blast which was lovely because outside was 100 degrees. There was 2 other tables, so it wasn't busy at all. It was happy hour which gave us $5 drafts and $2 Kumamoto oysters (6 piece minimum). The dry aged fish was on the specials board as well. Ordered: 6 oysters, dry aged tuna and dry aged salmon nigiri, Rainbow roll and Shima Aji Sashimi. Got the dry aged pieces first. Passed the smell test, no fishy smell at all. Bites were clean and tender. The salmon even had a bit of smokiness on it. Would definitely order again. Oysters and rainbow roll were also really good, solid all around. Asked the chef for a recommendation and he advised to try the Shima Aji (another board special). This go around we got this as sashimi. Another fresh and clean fish. Mild flavor with slight sweetness. We ordered pretty much everything through the chefs behind the bar and the service was solid. Needless to say this is a place I would come back to.

Salmon and yellowtail were both fresh and properly sliced, no sloppy thick cuts like some places. Creative rolls without going overboard on gimmicks, you can tell someone actually cares about what goes in them. Intimate space, dim lighting, good for a date night, service was attentive and pointed me toward the right choices without being pushy. 5 stars, premium sushi in Midtown Sacramento that actually delivers on the promise

There is a designated parking lot across the street, so it's easy to grab a spot and walk over. Just be careful because the parking spots in the lot aren't well marked and it's easiest to just park neatly next to other cars. We like to sit at the bar if there's just two of us, and will grab a table when we have friends. If you want to make sure you have a table, you can make a reservation ahead of time, but we usually don't need to wait too long. Our favorites are the brussel sprouts, karaage chicken, and their nigiri. We also really enjoy the sukiyaki, it's really flavorful and perfect for cooler or rainy weather. We still need to come by for brunch, but we've heard good things. The team here is always friendly, and we've been in enough that some of them recognize us now.

We orderd the loco moco and breakfast fried rice with scrambled eggs. The eggs were deliciously scrambled. The fried rice was ok. The big concern was my burger patty was really burnt. The consistency and flavor of the gravy was interesting. We were the first visitors of the day so I'd say while it eventually filled up, not sure the reason behind burned food. Also, with a full bar, bloody marys were not available. Really unfortunate for brunches. However, I understand this is mainly a sushi joint? So maybe I will need to come back for sushi sometime.

This is a cute lithe restaurant. Simple. Upon arrival.... Pros 1) we got parking right away. 2) restaurant looked clean. Our table, chairs, plates, cups looked clean. We were the only one there at first. 3) waitress was very nice and smiling. I love warm welcomes. She seated us right away, gave us menus and brought water for us pretty quick. 4) water tasted good. No funky taste. 5) Mixed tempura, Miso soup, New York Steak teriyaki, Zig zag roll were all very good. 6) our waitress checked in on us and ensure we had water refill. I appreciate that. We all did. It was hot today. 7) bathroom was clean. 8) wall decors are cute. 9) there's music, but low enough that we could talk and hear each other, but loud enough that we can hear the music. Cons 1) none Conclusion We liked this little restaurant. We gotta try the soups next time we go there. We only encounter our waitress and she was very nice. Didn't get to talk to the sushi chef. Foods good, water good, restaurant clean, bathroom clean, plenty of parking. Menu have dessert, but we didn't get any. Was pretty full. Go try this place if you're in this area.

I was referred to the owner Vinh who handled the situation with such care and understanding. He was extremely apologetic and offered to take care of the bill along with another generous offer. I was blown away by his generosity and consideration in wanting to make things right. I've always appreciated the fresh sushi, reasonable prices, & hospitality, but getting to interact with the owner and having that great of an experience really sealed the deal. Thank you again for excellent service. Please do yourself a favor and check out this wonderful restaurant. They will not disappoint! I typically order takeout but their dining room is very nice, clean and inviting. I would love to dine in next time.
