This restaurant had been on my radar since seeing a post on Instagram. I was happy to learn it was 5 minutes from home. I came here for a weeknight dinner with a friend. We didn't make reservations, but we were seated right away. Our waiter was very friendly and gave us great sake and sushi recommendations! We started with a bottle of Dassi 45 Junmai Daiginjo Sake ($25 for a 300 mL bottle) and the Daily Oysters ($25), topped with Ponzu and Dashi Jelly. We ended up ordering 3 different sushi rolls since everything sounded so good: Kyoto ($20), Hanami ($16), Sakura ($22). Everything was beautifully presented and tasted fresh (no fishy smell). We visited this sushi restaurant for the first time and it was really good! The sushi was super fresh and good! The teriyaki salmon and tempura bento box was very good. We also ordered the katsu curry which was okay, a bit different than the Japanese curry we are used to at other restaurants but thinking maybe it's from a different region maybe? The only feedback we would give is being clear on the toppings automatically put on the sushi. We saw it said their house sauce (which was like a light shoyu blend which was good), but then on the Salmon Toro they also put a garnish and like a chili oil which I didn't like and for a $14 per order sushi it would have been nice to know so we could have asked for it without the oil and garnish. Also the yellowtail sushi had a tart like sauce on top which I didn't like at all but it wasn't mentioned on the menu. I had to wipe it off. Still giving it 5 stars because we need more Japanese restaurants with quality cuts for sushi/sashimi instead of the places that clearly cut corners. Came with my family and 1.5 year old niece on a Friday just a few minutes after they just opened. We were the only customers there for most of the duration so service was quick and attentive. For appetizers, we got spicy garlic edamame (which was so flavorful), YuzuHamachi (which was so fresh, unique and delicious), and agedashi tofu (which had a snow crab topping and was tasty but happened to be the least favorite from what we ate and ended up dipping it in the spicy garlic edamame sauce for a bit more flavor). For rolls, we got three rolls (the only one not pictured is the dragon roll). Rolls were so flavorful and each bite was heaven. There's a wonderful feeling when you eat a roll and you can immediately tell how fresh the fish and ingredients are. Not pictured as well is the house ramen which was for my mom who wanted udon soup but they didn't have it. The presentation of the ramen was beautiful and my mom who is extremely picky with food really loved it. The restaurant was really beautiful inside and I enjoyed all the fine details of the decorations. I look forward to coming back and trying their sashimi and nigiri. read more

WHAT WE GOT: We got the Sakura roll and 12 piece sashimi. We have also tried the Kyoto roll before. Rolls are so good. You can't go wrong with any of them. Fish is fresh. They don't skimp out on sashimi, look at how thick the pieces are!! Rolls selection is short and sweet which is nice, not overwhelming. A good selection of foods from the kitchen as well. For second time around we have to come back for the sake of craving. We had: Omakase- same as the first time we got fresh cuts of fish and we enjoyed as it melts in our mouth.. Sushi rolls- salmon and tuna it's good too . Half dozen oysters- garnished overpowering the taste of oysters . Lovely hidden gem! It opened in October 2025. Not busy and they should be packed! EXCELLENT sushi and I don't say that lightly. Wonderful service! Wish I got our server's name. August 12, at 6pm. She was helpful with great suggestions. It was clean and comfortable with beautiful ceramic plates and nice chopsticks. Not the kind you have to break apart with splinters. They start you with a complimentary cucumber salad. Then we ordered the truffle tuna and yuzu hamachi. Delicious!!! Then we had the Tokyo roll, Hokkaido roll, kawa roll and sakura roll then ended with an O-toro nigiri. EVERYTHING was so perfect. Visual, texture and flavor all spot on, and so fresh! Ate here twice in the same month because it's just that good! My favorite rolls were the Kawa Roll and Kyoto roll. The Kyoto roll had a chili garlic dressing that I loved. If you like sashimi, definitely check out the Premium Mystery Box. The O-toro (fatty tuna belly) was so buttery and stood out the most. I would order that alone next time. Sushi Kawa is a fairly new restaurant serving delicious Japanese food. It's a nice atmosphere, and it's cutely decorated right now for Valentine's! I had the following on my most recent visit: Bento Box (with Pork Katsu & Beef Short Rib), Chawanmushi, and the Kawa Roll. I have previously tried the following: Agedashi Tofu, Spicy Garlic Edamame, Premium Sashimi Box, the Sakura Roll, and Red Bean Panna Cotta. I personally thought the bento box was fine, but I've had better. My favorite items have been the rolls (Kawa & Sakura) and the Sashimi Box. In order a bento box with short ribs and chicken wings it came with rice, salad with sesame dressing and miso soup. The price for the bento box was $22 which is pretty standard for any Japanese restaurant. I ordered my food to go since it was taking it for work. The customer service was great and the lady that helped me was so welcoming. The interior is very nice there is plenty of space for dinning or even dinner parties with friends and family. My daughter and I are always looking for new sushi places to try and found Sushi Kawa. It was about an hour and a half before closing so it wasn't too busy. Hidden in a shopping center so you'll have to walk through the main shopping center and it's inside the building. Very clean and loved the decor with the fish tank at the sushi bar. We ordered salmon belly, Kyoto and Hokkaido roll and one other dish that I'm drawing a blank to but it was plenty for the two of us. We devoured each sushi and it was amazing to taste the freshness and grade of the fish. I liked how it was drenched with some creamy sauce, made perfectly and you can taste all the ingredients in each roll. The fish was buttery and sweet- so good! It was my first time going to Sushi Kawa and it was amazing! 10/10 from the cleanliness, great ambiance and decor, and super friendly staff. Our waitress had given us good recommendations and advice with ordering as well! 1000/10 recommend checking it out if you are in the area. My friends and I ordered the agadashi tofu and spicy edamame to start. Both were seasoned perfectly and served extremely warm as it was made fresh. Two of my friends ordered the sashimi and they only had good things to say. Not to mention the plating is gorgeous. Our table also ordered the Sakura roll, shrimp tempura roll, the ninja roll, Hokkaido roll, and the tokoyo roll with lemon slices. Everything was well balanced, had super fresh flavors and great quality. My friend wanted to try this new place out and we met her here. We all like Japanese food. Came here early Sunday night. We usually eat early dinners, 5ish. This way we don't have to deal with waiting for a table or crowds. Plus, it gives me time to digest my food before bed. We order Hamachi Kama and pepper fin to start out with. The Hamachi Kama was pretty good, but the pepper fin was bland. The fish itself was tasteless. The other things we ordered were pretty good. Pepperfin tuna (appetizer) has no taste at all, except if you eat the jalapeno peppers with siracha. Disappointing! The Hamachi Kama was good with a nice portion. We were going to order 12 pcs Sashimi but the waitress recommended that we order Kawa Premium Box instead ($60). The presentation is pretty with about 18 pieces of higher quality fish. It also comes with steamed egg soup, which was very good. I'm glad we order this and would come back for this. Kawa Roll (Snow Crab, Asparagus, Tempura, Eel, Avo and Lobster salad) was very good. The Crispy leeks elevated the roll. I like that they didn't drench the sauce and you can taste the ingredients. Attentive service! My wife and I came with another Elite. We saw a review from another Elite and wanted to check this place out I made reservations for a Sunday. The place is located in a small strip mall. There is a parking lot and I was able to get a spot close by. There was no one in the restaurant so no need for a reservation. It looked like I had booked the entire place for our dinner until a couple came in half an hour later. It was nice. The staff were really friendly. The chef greeted us as we came in. The menu was nothing special. Standard Japanese sushi . We started with the pepperfin. It was spicy but when I ate the tuna it had no taste. Plain. Next we got the hamachi kama which was pretty good and it had a lot of meat on it. The Kawa sashimi was a sight to see. I think it was around 18 pieces . The sushi was really fresh and tasted great. So many different fish My wife ordered a roll for us . She got the Kawa roll. It was a nice flavor and we liked it a lot. It may not have the scene of Kru, but the sushi is genuinely on par. We've been to both several times, and the quality of the fish and sushi here is incredible. This is seriously my new fav Sushi spot because of the flavors that packed a punch! I can't believe it took me this long to finally enter this building and see the restaurants inside, after all the years when I've been to other eateries and businesses in this center! I am so happy there is a delicious Japanese spot now in this area of Watt and Fair Oaks Blvd.! Let's start with service. Our server went above and beyond to tell us about the menu and give recs. The manager check on us frequently after each of our items were served and we had taken a few bites, so we gave our reviews and compliments each time he checked on us! The decor added to the cool, modern ambiance. My friend and I took time to admire the beautiful Asian decor at the entrance before we left. The soft shell crab roll was perfection, as it was filled with crab. The Kawa roll was beautiful and all of the toppings filled my taste buds with exciting flavors! The Garden delight roll balanced our sushi roll feast, and the sweet potato was the cherry on top! The taiyaki is the most creative, best tasting taiyaki I've had, and I know it's because of the ice cream and red bean packed tightly, but ever so neatly, into the fish. I've never seen taiyaki made this way, but it's now my fav way to enjoy this Japanese treat! My friend and I raved about the presentation of these rolls. Art talent and care are evidently put into each of their rolls! I'm already salivating as I typed this review, and I'm eager to return to try their other menu items! Was in Sacramento for an event which I made into a day trip and I was craving sushi. Looking through the photos, I was taken back by the $60 price point for the omakase and nearly almost just ordered rolls. OMAKASE: I mean price-wise it's highly reasonable, considering that it includes Waygu beef (with bits of gold sheet), raw scallop, uni, caviar... BUT as a person who does not like scallop or uni, this did not mean much to me. 1) I appreciate that on the take out container, they labeled what is what in sharpie, 2) I appreciate the colors and the extent they took to make it pretty... however, dipping in shoyu the proper way would have dropped everything into the sauce (and I equally understand you don't need to dip with good omakase... as a standard--THERE IS WASABI WITHIN EACH NIGIRI, fyi), and 3) I appreciate how fresh each piece was. Wasabi was bordering in between fresh texture/taste and artificial coloring. Sushi rice was delicious and melt in the mouth. Thumbs up to the fancy chopsticks. Service was fantastic. One of the few times someone initiated the conversation and was willing to spend a few moments chatting with me. Very well lit and clean establishment. Parking is superb. I intentionally picked this place because I was not about to search far, wide, or deep for parking...was not in the mood to fight for parking or park in tight spaces at all. Therefore, this place was great as it's located within a plaza with a private parking lot. WHY FOUR STARS: This may be TMI but um this helped me go almost instantly which I guess I am appreciative of. There's not much of a selection/a variety nor many options on the menu (and paying per each nigiri/sashimi to please yourself can get very expensive very fast as well as become not worth it). This place is such a hidden gem. We enjoyed everything we ordered. My favorite fish tonight was the sea bass. Our server Kathy was really nice and fun which made our dining experience more enjoyable. We even got to try the chawanmushi and it was so good! I'm not a huge roll girly, but their Kyoto roll was pretty tasty. I noticed there was beef tongue on their menu, I didn't order it tonight but I'm super curious to try it next time! I thought the soy sauce dish with the chopstick holder was such a thoughtful touch. Fantastic service. FANTASTIC FOOD. Lovely space. We came here for a small birthday dinner and are so glad we did. We will definitely be back. Food: 1. Edamame: simple and lightly salted. Delicious and we left nothing behind. 2. Two-item bento box with teriyaki salmon and chicken: our daughters ate up all the salmon, half the chicken, and all of the salad and miso soup. While I feel like I could make both dishes better, there were zero complaints from our kids and I feel like you should be coming here for the sushi anyways. 3. Otoro nigiri: always the best bite. I like the caviar topping and felt like this added a nice bit of salt. I love that the nigiri are pre-sauced. Not the best we've ever had, but we are a ways away from the ocean so it's unreasonable to expect it to beat what we've had in Japan and Hawaii. 4. Salmon nigiri: delicious, soft, and buttery. Always hits. Also pre-sauced/dressed. 5. Hokkaido roll: SO good. Crab was delicious and I loved the light kick from the sriracha mayo on it. 6. Tokyo roll: delicious with the tempura, salmon, and spicy ahi. It balanced out the decadence of the Hokkaido roll. This was probably my favorite of the two but only by a hair. Service: we went pretty early on a Saturday and it was fairly slow (really hoping this is a rarity for this place because it's so good and I want them to not only stay in business but to do well). That said, our servers were very attentive and kind. They were all lovely and at the ready from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. Since we went to celebrate a birthday they offered a complimentary crepe cake slice. It was light and sweet and appreciated. If you haven't gone here, idk what you're doing. This was my first time visiting Kawa Sushi and I was surprised how expensive the menu items were. I ordered a tonkatsu and short rib bento for $22 and added chawanmushi for $5. The bento portion was small and did not come with much rice. Miso soup served with a soup spoon indicated this restaurant is an Americanized Japanese restaurant. The chawanmushi had one measly slice of shitake, but had bits of crab which was surprisingly tasty. The Kawa Roll was a typical Americanized Japanese sushi roll, however very overpriced for $22. Complimentary sunomono was not mixed well as the flavor was not consistent throughout the dish. The rice in the roll was very compressed. Symantha our hostess made amazing suggestions for appetizers and sushi rolls .. and we ate every last bite. I don't say this lightly this meal was incredible from start to finish. Every single course felt intentional and dialed in but nothing felt overdone or try hard. Just really, really good food. The o-toro toast to start was insane. It was rich in the best way without being overwhelming. Then the sashimi lineup... shima aji, sake, hamachi each one was super clean, fresh, and just melted. You can tell they care about quality. The dobimushi and chawanmushi were probably my favorite part. Comforting, subtle, and just done perfectly. Those are dishes that can easily miss but they absolutely nailed them. And the soy bean panna cotta at the end was such a smooth finish. Light, not too sweet and exactly how you want to end a meal like that. On top of all that, the service was just as good as the food. Attentive without hovering, friendly without feeling forced. Got the 10 pc omakase to go. Was blown away by the quality of the fish and the thoughtfulness of the garnishes. Absolutely beautiful combinations. They also included a tempura shrimp head for garnish, which I tasted. It was delicious. Whatever they put in the batter makes for a complex and bright flavor, and it maintains its crispiness, even though I had refrigerated my food for an hour before eating it! I don't want to be negative and leave bad reviews but this was the worst sushi I've ever had. Amazing service though! Amazing dining area and very clean which is a super big plus to me! I just wasn't feeling the sushi at all. What my wife and I did appreciate is that it doesn't seem like they use imitation crab for their rolls. They are using fresh crab. I know this almost sounds contradicting of the rating but quality wise it seemed off. The rice was barely sticking to the rolls and they were falling apart easily, iced tea which is a black tea had a weird taste and almost tasted like meat or something... yeah really weird. Anyways I was looking forward to this place because of the ratings I seen on Yelp but was really disappointed in the taste and quality of the food. 2/10 for the food. 9/10 for the service!
