Located across the street from from Consumes River college inside the shopping center where Goodwill is. Lots of parking always available. The restaurant is super clean and organized. We were quickly seated and drink order taken as soon as we sat down. The waitress was super attentive the whole time. We started with an oyster shooter that was spicy and then some Asahi beer that always hits the spot. I tried their spicy tuna hand roll and it was ok. I like it with more flavor and/or cream cheese. Next we had half dozen oysters with some lemon juice and wasabi they were small but fresh with lots of masago. I made my husband try a Sake bomb since he had never had one and it was hilarious. I think I just found my favorite neighborhood sushi spot. We ordered delivery from here once and loved it so much we had to give the dine in experience a try. We arrived for dinner on a Saturday and were seated promptly but the restaurant filled up quickly. Service was great even with a full house and constant stream of delivery orders. We started with half dozen oysters which were at a very good price of $2 each topped with tobiko and light sauce. These were so sweet and fresh that we ordered another dozen at the end of our meal. (5/5) Paris Sashimi ($48) was fresh 16 pcs of chef's choice which were of very good quality and price (4/5) I did not like the negihama maki ($9) as it just tasted like scraps of hama with barely any negi. I wouldn't get this again (3/5) Toro Handroll ($12) was served tossed in spicy mayo which was not at all noted in the menu but it was still tasty. (4/5) Overall, this is a very solid sushi spot with good quality fish and fair prices. You can't go wrong with the rolls - one of the best California rolls I've had in a long time. Came here for lunch to celebrate the MIL on Mother's Day. Grateful that it wasn't too busy with reasonable quick service for the busiest day in the year. The family wanted to share the dragon sushi platter and a few of us ordered the bento boxes. The dragon platter was soo cute with beautiful specialty rolls. The dragon platter came with a good mix of raw and cooked rolls to please a variety of taste buds. If you like most rolls on the saucy side, this one's for you. I personally ordered the teriyaki bento box and was very satisfied. Loved the sesame salad topped with a fried lotus root. The tempura was perfectly cooked and not greasy with a light yet crispy batter. The teriyaki chicken was tender. Everything on my bento was delicious and I can't wait to order it again. We went there for dinner and got seated right away. The restaurant was clean. We ordered one kid's meal with chicken teriyaki, dragon rolls, rainbow rolls, and Lion King. My toddler enjoyed his meal, he finished almost everything except some white rice. He used his hand to eat his California rolls, and the chicken was soft to chew. Also comes with miso soup. After a few minutes all our food arrived at the table and we ate while reviewing our booth sales for the weekend. I guess I was really hungry since the food disappeared, so glad I snapped photos before I threw down! The rolls were good but the rice used that evening was mushy so there was a texture issue. Overall a good experience and hope on my next visit the rice used for their sushi is to my liking. Food: This has become one of my favorite sushi spot to get rolls. The rolls are super big, taste amazing, and is super affordable. Usually, I can eat two rolls at sushi restaurants, but here I can only eat one because it's so big. Typically, when rolls are big and cheap, they're not that good, but here it is! I've been here three times and enjoyed each dine in experience. I've never left dissatisfied or hungry. First time, it was for the Nigiri Omakase experience with Chef Danny! It was awesome and really elevated what Hinoka has to offer. Second time, it was for my sister's college graduation dinner and Chef Danny catered to us again. We were able to sit at the bar and had him dish it out (literally) and my sister enjoyed everything. We were full and happy. Third time, we came back for a birthday gather, once again for the Nigiri Omakase experience with you guessed it, Chef Danny! He made the whole experience enjoyable with his friendly banter, providing the brief history of the dishes, and careful explanation of the ingredients with recommendations on how to consume and really enjoy each bite. Every time we've been seated at the bar and it's fun! Hinoka has great customer service and the ladies are on top of their job while showcasing kindness and effort. Chef Danny is no longer with Hinoka and we are very disappointed to know that. ='( Notes: Parking is really easy. Hinoka is in the same plaza as Tay Giang. The floral ceiling and dry ice brought me in, even though I was told it was gimmicky and IG-groupie-ish. But Hinoka has proved to be much more than just an Instagrammable restaurant. Hinoka is located next to Ding Tea and took over the space from its predessor, Suki Sushi. What an improvement and makeover of the space! The place is so cute with hanging flowers, boho lamps, and paper mache coi fish on the walls. The menu is on the pricier side, but what isn't nowadays. The fish is quality. Throw in some pizazz with smoke, fire, and ice and you've got a winner. Smoke Chutoro 5/5* The presentation was beautiful and so were the flavors. The toro is fatty, topped with jalapeños and kizami wasabi to add just the perfect amount of heat, and that smoke! You definitely can taste the smokiness, contrasting with the scattered bits of tobiko in the sweet truffle sauce-with hints of soy sauce? It also came with a small mound of wakame (seaweed salad) which was a nice surprise. Hinoka Roll 5/5* This was your typical roll with tempura shrimp, avocado, and sauces, but the thick slab of salmon on top was so buttery and top notch. I don't care what hardcore sushi lovers say. I still love my Americanized sushi rolls. All the different ingredients were an explosion of flavors and textures in one tiny bite. Super Lion King Roll 2/5* More like super mushy roll. The roll fell apart when picked up and the lower half was so mushy from being steamed during the bake. Besides the caramelized torched top and tobiko, the rest of the roll was pretty bland. Kizami Wasabi 3/5* It's nice that they have a option to purchase fresh pickled wasabi, but the portion was small and not warrant of the price. Especially since it's already included in higher priced dishes such as the Smoke Chutoro and Sashimi Platters. Hinoka has some other options that are vegetarian or keto friendly, including no-rice rolls. I still can't get over how cute this restaurant is and the attention to detail on the presentation. I visited Hinoka Sushi in Sacramento, CA on Friday, 1/31/25, around 6 PM. What truly caught my attention about this restaurant was the ambiance. The entire atmosphere was very inviting, welcoming, and gorgeous all around with the details of decorations. In terms of food, I was able to try the following: * Negihama Hand Roll (w/ scallions, spicy mayo) * Rainbow Roll (w/ avocado and crab salad, topped with salmon, tuna, hamachi, albacore, ebi, mango sauce, scallions, masago) * Phoenix Roll (w/ Unagi tempura, cream cheese, and spicy tuna topped with tuna, avocado, scallion, house sauce, masago) The quality of the fish was fresh and the flavor was on point for each roll. The presentation of the food exceeded expectations. I also tried a total of two Sake Jelly Shot flavors such as Peach and Mix Berry. They were both fantastically good. If I had to pick a favorite, the Mix Berry tasted significantly better. The service from the staff members was spectacular. Super amiable and attentive. Birthday girl was impressed with the decoration., In my opinion, the food didn't meet the benchmark expectation. Let me explain, the jalapeño bomb was big but flavors were lacking plus not spicy as described in the menu. The tempura lacked salt. The rolls were ok. Well we came here more or less just to drink. We sat at the bar and I got a bottle of sake. The sushi chef was a friend of my friend and showed me his new sushi knife. I love knives if you didn't know. It was still in the box. It was very pretty and I loved the way it looked. I need one. hahah. After i checked it out he switched it with the old knife and started slicing sashimi. Beautiful. We got so fatty tuna and it was fabulous. The place has gotten really popular since they opened. My brother and sister-in-law came into town to visit, so I ordered a large sushi platter for my family togo. Unfortunately, the quality was disappointing. Half of the sashimi didn't taste fresh, had an odd texture, and was cut into very large pieces. The fish in the rolls also lacked freshness and had a texture like it had been sitting for a few days. I also order oysters and they were definitely not fresh. We tossed it after trying a few. Honestly, the cold edamame was the highlight of the platter -- and that's saying something. Sadly, it just wasn't worth the $200 I spent for just that alone, especially since I had high hopes for the food. Later, I learned that Chef Danny is no longer there. I ordered a Katsu Bento Box, Volcano Roll, and Jackie Roll. Wife is pregnant, wanted sushi, so this place has deep fried sushi rolls as an option. I didn't get to eat or visit here, as my order was done through a delivery app. However, the quality of the food and packaging is done well. Chicken Katsu has adequate amount of meat and it actually has a nice crunch. Typically the California rolls at other places feels like an afterthought, but this place made a decent roll. Only caveat is mine didn't had cucumbers, so it looks like they packed extra crab meat in it. The volcano roll and Jackie Roll taste too similar. I think that is how deepfried sushi rolls are is the base protein is the same. But overall the quality is done well, and taste nice. The main differentiation was the sauce. Overall, the food was good. Only minus 1 star due to the lack of cucumbers in the California rolls. Too much crab meat detracts from the overall flavor profile. read more
