    Larry's famous Tempura
    Juanda S.

Updated Review Decided to give it another shot and I am so glad I did. Not only did I see my gurl Lena with the smile that literally lights up the room but my babygurl walked through the curtains and I was flooded with every kind of emotion of happiness possible! PHYLLIS! Thank you for making my evening a whole lot better ladies! Then to top it off LARRY was serving up the best tempura in all of SacTown. Will I go back, for all of that love? DEFINITELY!

Ordered the hinoka and dragon roll at 3pm on a Thursday. There was no wait and the restaurant was pretty empty. Service was quick and friendly. The decorations for cherry blossom festival were beautiful. Hinoka roll: savory/creamy/slightly spicy Dragon roll: a classic, crunchy/savory/slightly sweet, the rice pearls were a sophisticated touch that added a little crispiness Would recommend!

Came here for lunch to celebrate the MIL on Mother's Day. Grateful that it wasn't too busy with reasonable quick service for the busiest day in the year. The family wanted to share the dragon sushi platter and a few of us ordered the bento boxes. The dragon platter was soo cute with beautiful specialty rolls. The dragon platter came with a good mix of raw and cooked rolls to please a variety of taste buds. If you like most rolls on the saucy side, this one's for you. I personally ordered the teriyaki bento box and was very satisfied. Loved the sesame salad topped with a fried lotus root. The tempura was perfectly cooked and not greasy with a light yet crispy batter. The teriyaki chicken was tender. Everything on my bento was delicious and I can't wait to order it again. Paired all this with hot tea and it was another great lunch in the books.

We went there for dinner and got seated right away. The restaurant was clean. We ordered one kid's meal with chicken teriyaki, dragon rolls, rainbow rolls, and Lion King. My toddler enjoyed his meal, he finished almost everything except some white rice. He used his hand to eat his California rolls, and the chicken was soft to chew. Also comes with miso soup. My husband and I enjoyed our rolls, they all tasted delicious, and the freshness was still okay. The plaza has lots of parking available.

Customer service: 4.2 attentive but not over the top Food: 3.8 A bit overdue on this review, but didn't want to overlook this establishment. After working needed to drop by the house and change so wife went ahead with her GF. A quiet Sunday night and the girls had drinks and appetizers on the table. Our waitress checked on me once I sat to see if I needed/wanted a drink, but I was hungry so I quickly looked at the menu and placed my order: Hinoka & Rainbow roll. After a few minutes all our food arrived at the table and we ate while reviewing our booth sales for the weekend. I guess I was really hungry since the food disappeared, so glad I snapped photos before I threw down! The rolls were good but the rice used that evening was mushy so there was a texture issue. Overall a good experience and hope on my next visit the rice used for their sushi is to my liking. As for service, our waitress kept checking on us and ensure we always had a full glass of water or tea.

Food: This has become one of my favorite sushi spot to get rolls. The rolls are super big, taste amazing, and is super affordable. Usually, I can eat two rolls at sushi restaurants, but here I can only eat one because it's so big. Typically, when rolls are big and cheap, they're not that good, but here it is! The fish tastes super fresh and didn't need sauces to mask it. My favorite ones were teddy because it's smoky and the triple trouble because it's fresh. I will be back to try their nigiri's and sashimis. Service: Service was quick. It wasn't that busy when we went on a Friday night which was surprising to me after eating the food. Our server was very nice. Attentive just enough that's she's not interrupting us eating. Ambience: It is a relatively smaller sushi restaurant with high ceilings and bright lights.

Great food, great service and the restaurant is cute. Nice and clean. Went on 4th of July and had the whole place to ourselves. Our server was amazing and the sushi rolls were all amazing.

Closest sushi place to the hospital. After giving birth, this was such a treat! Hubby ordered from here and we got their sashimi plate, uni, and the hinoka roll. Sashimi was delicious and fresh. Their hinoka roll was a bit on the spicy side, but still good. We will definitely visit this place again.

Searched for sushi restaurants nearby and found this gem! Loved the decor and all the flowers on the ceilings. Presentation of the food was fantastic! High quality sushi and food for the price. They serve fresh wasabi with the sashimi and nigiri. Fish was fresh and the pieces they served were a decent thickness. We all loved our food! Service was great! Would definitely return!

I've been here three times and enjoyed each dine in experience. I've never left dissatisfied or hungry. First time, it was for the Nigiri Omakase experience with Chef Danny! It was awesome and really elevated what Hinoka has to offer. Second time, it was for my sister's college graduation dinner and Chef Danny catered to us again. We were able to sit at the bar and had him dish it out (literally) and my sister enjoyed everything. We were full and happy. Third time, we came back for a birthday gather, once again for the Nigiri Omakase experience with you guessed it, Chef Danny! He made the whole experience enjoyable with his friendly banter, providing the brief history of the dishes, and careful explanation of the ingredients with recommendations on how to consume and really enjoy each bite. Every time we've been seated at the bar and it's fun! Hinoka has great customer service and the ladies are on top of their job while showcasing kindness and effort. Chef Danny is no longer with Hinoka and we are very disappointed to know that. ='( Notes: Parking is really easy. Hinoka is in the same plaza as Tay Giang. Any nigiri omakase reservation requires a 50% deposit up front. You will be full after the nigiri omakase. Dessert is part of the course. Their bathroom is clean and they wash down the entire bar at night.

We got four rolls to go while in town for a day. Lots of flavors at a decent price. Staff were super nice. Loved the pairings on the wall. Will be back to try more rolls.

It's so cute and aesthetic, however, limited seating! So when they are busy it's very crowded, hard to move around. To ensure a spot, I recommend making a reservation. Servers are so kind and friendly, answered questions perfectly. And the sushi came out pretty quickly! For the quality of the fish and presentation, the price is reasonable. We ordered a lot of rolls, it came on a dragon! Which had small cups of dry ice, the server poured water into them. Creating a smoke show for our sushi! So fun and made the experience memorable! I enjoyed my time here and would definitely come back! Highly recommend for a fancy date or big family dinner to celebrate!

I've come here a few times already. The some of the decorations are cute. The sushi is pretty fresh. I've tried a few of their different rolls. They are pretty good. I like their Agadashi Tofu. It had good flavor, and the tofu was lightly fried. They do have a happy hour. Some of the apps are discounted. The service is good. The staff are friendly. I would come again. The fish is fresh.

Pipo Ramen and Rice…read more I've been wanting to try Pipo Ramen and Rice since 2023, when it was ranked #11 on Yelp's list of places to eat in the Sacramento area. I've driven past this spot countless times but somehow never made it in, until now! I stopped by on a Saturday before noon, and the restaurant was pretty quiet, with only a few tables occupied. The interior is modern, clean, and well kept, making it a nice spot for a casual meal. After looking over the menu, we decided on the Pad Thai with Shrimp (medium heat) and Panang Curry with Chicken (medium heat). While ordering, our server also recommended the Pipo Salad, essentially their take on papaya salad. They offer it Lao or Thai style, and we went with the Thai style with mild heat. Once the food came out, the first thing I noticed was the portion sizes, everything was much bigger than I expected, especially considering the reasonable prices. These are definitely portions that are easy to share family-style. The Pipo Salad had tons of flavor, and I really enjoyed being able to taste the vinegar and fish sauce. One thing to note, though: I ordered it mild, but this ended up being the spiciest dish on the table! I'd say the heat was closer to a medium, while the Pad Thai and curry were much milder. The Pad Thai was solid. The noodles were cooked perfectly, and the flavor was there. The Panang Curry was good, although I personally wished both the Pad Thai and curry had a little more heat. Luckily, our server brought out some condiments, including Thai pepper fish sauce, which was excellent with the curry and gave it the extra kick I was looking for. Overall, I'd definitely recommend giving Pipo Ramen and Rice a try. The portions are generous, the prices are reasonable, and there's a good variety of dishes I'm looking forward to exploring on my next visit. My only real complaint is that the spice levels seem a little inconsistent. I wanted my Pad Thai and curry to be spicier, but at the same time, I didn't want my mouth completely on fire. Hopefully I can find that perfect balance next time! Would I come back? Absolutely. I've still got plenty of the menu to work my way through!

It was happy hour which gave us $5 drafts and $2 Kumamoto oysters (6 piece minimum). The dry aged fish was on the specials board as well. Ordered: 6 oysters, dry aged tuna and dry aged salmon nigiri, Rainbow roll and Shima Aji Sashimi. Got the dry aged pieces first. Passed the smell test, no fishy smell at all. Bites were clean and tender. The salmon even had a bit of smokiness on it. Would definitely order again. Oysters and rainbow roll were also really good, solid all around. Asked the chef for a recommendation and he advised to try the Shima Aji (another board special). This go around we got this as sashimi. Another fresh and clean fish. Mild flavor with slight sweetness. We ordered pretty much everything through the chefs behind the bar and the service was solid. Needless to say this is a place I would come back to.

Intimate space, dim lighting, good for a date night, service was attentive and pointed me toward the right choices without being pushy. 5 stars, premium sushi in Midtown Sacramento that actually delivers on the promise
