This was my first omakase experience and I was not disappointed! First, the chef was so personable and we had great conversations. As for the food, there wasn't a single miss! I really liked the toro, ocean crab, and hamachi! And the crepe cake was so amazing as the last course :) Oh and the lychee heaven cocktail is very strong but my mom loved it! We came here to celebrate my med school acceptance and I'm so happy that I got this amazing experience! All the fish we ate were fresh and the quality was superb. Anyway, we showed up for lunch on a Saturday and the place was empty other than one other party. One server and one sushi chef so I assume thats the norm. Although pretty expensive, I would say it was worth it for the splurge. The lunch special is an awesome value. The Bara Chirashi Don is $40, but you get a significant amount of fish that is high quality....like a full sized poke bowl of sorts. Geso karaage was good, not over cooked and very tender. The only thing I wish was a little bit different was the rice to be seasoned just a touch more. A good sushi type of lunch when you don't want to go with individual nigiri. $100 after tip for 2 people but we left full and happy. read more

We used to come here at least twice a month. We came today for a small celebration. Food was good as always. But today while we are finishing our dinner something weird happened with the service. The staff was taking some dishes away and she spilled a sticky sauce all over my new phone, my favorite bag and over my hand. It left a sticky mess. It's sticky everywhere. I freak out and immediately tried to clean. The staff member who spill the sauce never acknowledged it nor apologized for it. She didn't bring napkins over so I can clean. My favorite bag is stained and has sauce in it and on it. Once we got out of the restaurant I had to throw it away cuz it's not salvageable anymore. I don't understand why she would treat me like this. We come here a lot and tip well. This was supposed to be a fun night out but I have a sticky phone and I don't have my favorite bag anymore. Delicious! Might be my new favorite Sacramento sushi spot. Lunch set with kaisendon was a bit redundant because I also got the chef selection 18 piece sashimi which was much better. My partner and I each got a lunch set. Salad was great and so were the croquette and corn chawanmushi. Galbi was a little fatty but still good. Soft shell crab was too much crunch. Miso soup was nice and had mini scallops except the first scallop was still cold inside (I guess it was freshly put in and not overcooked). Service was good and only two other tables present. The owner/master chef offered to pick a selection for me. It was 4 nigiri and 5 sashimi. Spectacular. Amber jack, salmon belly, ocean trout, red eye snapper (beautiful red color) and more. Definitely will return soon! read more

Recently renovated, Azayaka describes themselves as a Japanese fusion restaurant. Located in a strip mall, the interior belies the exterior with its subdued ambiance. Came here for dinner a couple of times, the first time I ordered the rainbow roll ($15) which is my barometer for sushi at restaurants. Decently sized, the fish was fresh and the roll was filling. Daughter ordered the ramen ($18) with the red option, which she enjoyed with the plethora of toppings. Dinner the second time, I got the teishoku set with salmon ($21). Two decently filets of salmon came with rice, miso soup, salad, deep fried egg roll and salad. You also get a choice of either croquette or chawanmushi. The chawanmushi was a highlight for me! I missed eating this savory custard when I used to live in Japan. Their version did not disappoint! This has spot has become a rotating staple for me and am looking forward to trying out more of their sushi rolls. read more

Came here for late lunch on a Saturday for my sister's graduation and it was empty but we still wanted to make a reservation since I know it can get crowded for dinner. We were told to call 2 weeks ahead to make a reservation. Their lunch specials are super filling and come with a great assortment of side dishes. I also love their paper sukiyaki, as they come with many side dishes that complement the meal as well. I think it's more than enough to share with one other person, which is great since I love ordering a sushi roll on the side to enjoy it with. Azayaka in Roseville is one of my favorite sushi bars in the US for the quality of fish with some fish from Japan, and also for reasonable prices. Decided to dine in again as I was craving the wagyu sukiyaki. The service was very slow and our server did not check on our table as often as I needed. It was difficult to make eye contact to notify the servers that we needed assistance. For our appetizers, I loved the Geso and the Wagyu nigiri. The octopus was really tough and chewy. I will not order this in the future. Of course, I ordered the Wagyu sukiyaki with double the Wagyu. It tasted just as amazing as the other 2 prior visits. I also ordered the seafood sukiyaki and it was terrible. The broth needs a lot of improvement. It lacked flavor and had a really fishy taste to it. The shrimp did not taste fresh. I will omit this from my future visits. I still had a somewhat pleasant dinning experience as I enjoyed the majority of the food. I will surely dine in again for the wagyu sukiyaki. read more

Irasshaimase! The staff at Azayaka is welcoming, and they want their customers to feel at home. The food has been consistently good and delicious. My go to is the Teishoku. You can choose from several different choices of proteins; with my favorite being the teriyaki chicken. The set comes with a vegetarian eggroll, miso soup, salad, rice, and clam chawanmushi. It's the perfect meal. Everything is tasty, and the portions are so incredibly generous. You will not leave hungry. The only item that I don't like is the clam chawanmushi ( savory egg custard). I've enjoyed this dish another restaurants that hasn't had clam in it, and there's just something about the clam flavor that just ruins it for me. Plenty of free parking, and they definitely will accept reservations for larger parties. It's a great place for date night, family dinner, or enjoying a nice meal with good friends. read more

Worth the try: nankatsu karaage, rolls, nigiri Tip: No reservations unless you do omakase! Chawanmushi: Japanese steamed egg custard with clams, corn, snow crab meat. Very silken, full of flavor and texture. One of the best chawanmushi I've had. Yuzu Nankatsu Karaage: deep fried chicken cartilage served with house made yuzu honey dipping sauce. Chewy and fried without feeling too oily. PARKING: Located in a plaza so lots of parking outside! SERVICE: They're a busy restaurant with limited staff, but the food came out incredibly fast and the servers are kind and attentive. ATMOSPHERE: No frills restaurant with a lowkey, authentic Japanese vibe. I've had this place bookmarked for a while and glad we made our way out to East Sac to try out this hidden gem. The menu has a wide variety of things, and everything we tried was amazing. You can tell they care about providing an authentic Japanese experience with the chicken cartilage (vs. chicken breast or thigh), the lack of ginger or wasabi served on the side, and the kinds of fish they serve. I always have a great time in Azayaka. Staff are friendly and provide prompt service. The sushi chefs look a little stoic, but I think that adds to their unique atmosphere. I tried their sukiyaki set, both wagyu and seafood. I wish they had given some instructions on the approach or order I should eat the sets of food. It was a little chaotic trying to figure out how I could submerge all the ingredients in the broth so they would cook evenly. The tempura is perfectly crispy, but the rice was a little brittle and got dried really fast. The texture was more like Vietnamese broken rice, and it caught me off guard because when I tried their sushi a while ago, they used very high-quality rice. As is typical with sukiyaki, the broth becomes very flavorful at the end, absorbing all the flavors from high-quality ingredients, but my udon got a little dry while waiting. Since I tried both set, the wagyu sukiyaki broth became a little too sweet at the end. My favorite is definitely the seafood sukiyaki broth. Would I try these pricy sukiyaki again? Probably not. Would I go back to Azayaka again? 100%. This would not discourage me from going back there any amount. read more

I was there for lunch to get my weekly twice a week minimum seafood intake and it was suprisingly slow with few patrons. In an assuming shopping center is a real gem of Japanese cuisine. Not only was the food fantastic but the entire experience gave me flashbacks to my many trips to Japan when I was younger. The ambience was very Japanese down to the serving dishes and metal chopsticks. As for the food, we ordered sake don. I had the croquettes and my mom had the chawanamushi. In a sea of mediocre suburban sushi, Azayaka was a refreshing, authentic, high quality experience, all at a comparable price. Strong recommend if you enjoy real Japanese fare. Stumbled upon this establishment on a whim, looking to see what sushi spot was around after a day at the mall. The sushi gods guided me to the most perfect sushi place I could have chosen. The place is quaint and cozy. The servers are nice and very attentive. One of my favorite parts of the place is they give you a water jug--and they are very proactive in making sure it's replaced--so you never run out of water. I've only had their sushi and warm starters. so I can't speak on the bigger warm plates, but you can honestly pick any sushi roll or appetizer and not go wrong. The fish is always so fresh and delicious. Their hand rolls are a great portion (my favorite is the salmon skin) and are pretty filling. I will say my only note is that we ordered the appetizers first and actually waited to order our mains in hopes that the appetizers would come out first. Instead my mains came out before the appetizers and then my dates came after the appetizers came out.
