Sushi tacos are trending lately and of course, I had to try out Onigiri Burgers, which is one of two sushi taco spots in Sacramento. Onigiri has way more selection than Engawa and even has sushi burgers. Located conveniently across from Land Park and Sac City College, it's in a small plaza, next to Wushiland too! So you get your sushi and boba fix. The parking lot sucks though; so tiny and hard to find parking. The menu has a lot to choose from. Be careful not to order too much though, because they will leave you super full off of just one. Unagi Nori 3.5/5* These "tacos" are HUGE! Where do you even begin to eat this?! There's something going on in every corner. Saucy, stuffed with toppings, and really messy to eat so grab a fork and plenty of napkins. You get a crispy fried nori shell with a big ol' slab of unagi on top, slathered with sticky sweet sauce, fresh crisp lettuce, sweet imitation crab salad, and loads of rice. Too much rice. I had to throw some away to even out the ratio. The unagi had a lot of flavor but it was hard to get everything in one bite. Salmon Burger 5/5* The burger was simplier and more manageable. Rice to ingredient ratio was much better. Torched salmon, imitation crab salad, and large lettuce leaves. The salmon was juicy and buttery and the entire burger was really tasty. I'd probably come back for the burgers versus nori bites due to rice ratios. These are great to bring over to the park across the street for a picnic day. read more

Really fun and novel take on burgers and tacos with an Asian twist. Totally worth going once to check it out an experience the novelty of it all. The quality of the ingredients were excellent and for the price was worth while. FOOD: all three of our "bites" were tasty but honestly it's like getting two different experiences in one. On the top you get the protein of your choice and the bottom is a veggie taco. Would be much better with smaller shells so you can have all the flavors in one bite. Maybe two smaller tacos with the same amount of protein but less veggies. Mac salad was terrific. Spam musubi was done the easy way and not the best way with the meat in the middle. SERVICE: Good. It's so rare to have delicious familiar tastes presented in new creative ways, but that is exactly what they have done! The tuna nori (torch) is scrumptious! We look a look at the menu for a bit before deciding to order the following, for my girlfriend, son and myself. My only complaint is that the meals had a significant portion of rice in each Onigiri dish, vs the Unagi, Shrimp and or Steak that that different dishes advertised. Such a fun little spot with a really unique concept. They have a self-order kiosk, which made it super easy. We tried the salmon and tuna tacos, and the portions were masssssive. The crispy seaweed tempura taco shell was so good and added the perfect crunch. It did get a little messy to eat, so the taco holder was definitely appreciated. My cousin got the crab meat burger, I got the unagi nori & salmon nori, and my brother got the unagi burger, beef nori, & shrimp nori. So much food. You do not need this much food. Omg! All my friends were jealous when this showed up. I've been eyeing Onigiri Sushi Burger after searching sushi spots on Yelp, so I finally pulled the trigger and grabbed the Ahi Taco via DoorDash. Love their cute little taco holders that keep everything looking photo-ready even after a trip in the car. Tip: while many Yelpers (like me!) are calling this a taco, you'll order it as a tuna nori. So flavorful! The crab was the real winner, pulling it all together. My only wish is that the ahi had been chopped up. Trying to take a clean bite was a total fail and ended up being a (delicious) mess. Love the Stuffed Jalapeños. They were crunchy, spicy, and had the perfect amount of sauces drizzled on top. Overall, such a fun twist on sushi. Definitely a must-try if you want something unique delivered to your door! My husband really wanted to try this spot, so we stopped by for lunch! You can order at the counter or via the kiosk. There was a bit of a wait, but it seemed like a lot of people were ordering to-go. I went with the Unagi Nori, and he ordered the Grilled Steak Burger. The Unagi was absolutely delicious! It's a little challenging to eat since the nori taco shell is delicate, but it's incredibly light, crispy, and not greasy at all. It adds a perfect crunch to a very generous amount of filling. My husband enjoyed his burger but liked my taco a lot more--so much so that he went right back to the counter and ordered an Unagi Nori for himself after he finished his burger! Since I had the whole Saturday to explore I went here after seeing it on Yelp. The lady that was taking the order was nice and helpful. I went with the shrimp tempura burger which sounded interesting. It's not a typical burger in that it does not have a bun but instead nori with some rice made to be the bun. It also had imitation crab and some veggies. It was a little hard to eat but very tasty. The only issue for me was there was too much imitation crab so if I go again I would probably ask them to either put less or take it out. My coworkers introduced me to this spot and I'm so happy they did! The food here is so good, at a great price point, and your order is ready quick. So far I've tried the sushi hotdog (with salmon) and the stuffed jalapeños. The food tastes delicious, is filling, and worth it. Onigiri Burgers is a novel restaurant; I love the idea of nori tacos/burgers. The parking lot is pretty small. There are a few 15 minute parking spots, which we ended up getting, so we had to take our meal to the park to enjoy the food fresh. Unfortunately, the kiosk doesn't really have pictures and is not easy to reference as the menu above. We ordered unagi nori bite combo and chicken katsu onigiri burger. Warning: It's very messy! -Unagi nori bite combo: The nori itself was deep fried into a pretty stable taco shell. I would say the nori bite is better than their burger. The nori bite had at least 4 pieces of unagi. It was pretty stuffed with crab mix, cucumbers, seasoned unagi, and rice. They give you a side sauce which added extra flavor. It was very messy! I liked that they put it in a cardboard sort of carrying box. The combo included a drink and macaroni salad. The macaroni salad was like the ones you get from Hawaiian shops, but it seemed to have a bit of tuna. It was a good sized portion. -Chicken katsu burger: Great crispy chicken katsu, with lots of rice, lettuce. I wished they added some other katsu sauce just as Ashley C. mentioned. This is a pretty new spot in the plaza across from sac city college. They've been open for a few months so I finally got to try it. Parking in the plaza is difficult due to the size and how busy it is. It is difficult to find parking as well. I was craving a burger and this place popped up so I went here to see what kind of burgers they have. They are more focused on special burgers, like salmon rice burgers and Asian fusion inspired burgers. I got the "American cheeseburger" for $10.xx which includes fries and a drink. Inside is clean and there is decent seating to dine in. It's located next to the golden 1 bank. I may have to try the other burger flavors, but they are more expensive. You can order at the counter with a worker or order at the self service kiosk. My American cheeseburger was ok. It comes with lettuce, tomatoes cheese and a special sauce. I was not a fan of the sauce. It tastes like a sweetened thousand island dressing. I would omit this if I ordered this burger again. The workers were really nice and respectful. The only disappointment was how much rice there was, but the blend of vegetables and topped raw salmon in my salmon nori was good. My friend had the chicken katsu nori that was also good. The checking burger was the same except it was rice formed as buns with the same lightly battered seaweed on top to hel0 hold it together. Chicken, veggies, and sauce inside. The "hot dog" was a circular rice bun woth the same battered and deep fried seaweed shaped like a bun housing the insides with imitation crab,veggies, and your main in on top of it. Food itself was good. Plentiful. But lacked some flavor. They do provide Strachan, spicy mayo, and soy sauce to add flavor. Eating the food themselves as well was a challenge as it got messy quick. I felt it was okay based on me understanding what we are eating and the ingenuity but it did get messy and we resorted to forks to finish up. Everything tasted fresh and crunchy. I can't say enough good things about this place. I've been twice and just constantly think about it and crave more. We get the shrimp taco Noi and the Katsu taco Nori. I've also had the hotdog, but the tacos are the best and they're huge. The staff is so sweet and kind. It's Saturday night and they were running a special: Buy any two Nori Bite or Onigiri Burger and get one Free! What a deal!! The menu is interesting and made up of mostly Nori Bites and Onigiri Burgers. Nori Bites are fried seaweed "Taco Shells" filled with rice, veggies and a protein or two. The Onigiri Burger starts with a long piece of seaweed, thin layer of rice, veggies and a protein or two, then folded in half This is what I ordered: Gyoza These were ordinary and nothing special. At least they offer these as an appetizer to deepen the menu options. The dipping sauce was tangy and tasted good after a double dip. Unagi Nori Bite Amazing and I really enjoyed this! The fried nori shell is super crispy and holds its contents well. It never got soggy and it tasted freshly made. It contained rice, veggies, crab salad and three pieces of unagi across the top. Be sure to use the Onigiri House Sauce on the bites of veggies to add complexity. Spam Onigiri Burger This was surprisingly good and hefty, but you've got to love SPAM. There was a good amount of rice, veggies and two slices of SPAM inside. Be sure to use the Onigiri House Sauce here too and also eat it like a taco with the fold on the bottom to hold everything together. My wife ordered the Chicken Katsu Onigiri Burger. It was made with a flour tortilla, filled with shredded Peking Duck, scallions, veggies and deep fried to a crisp. It came with a side cup of hoisin sauce for dipping. The place itself is pretty small too so you don't want to bring too big of a group here. Salmon Nori Bite: this is the nori taco. My favorite one of the three - the torched salmon was cooked nicely. I like the crisp of the seaweed shell. It's a little hard to eat but if you go carefully you can manage to eat it all without making a mess! I liked the container it came in which helped keep it neat. Chicken Katsu Onigiri burger: This was a really filling bite too! I don't think it really needed the veggies but I liked the sauce that came with it. They have a "house onigiri sauce" that they bring with the food but would've liked an actual side of katsu sauce for this one instead! It's a pretty simple place where you can grab food to go, although you can also sit and eat there. I wouldn't really call it cozy, though. I didn't like the smell inside. I understand they make rolls and seafood, so some fish smell is expected, but the odor was still pretty unpleasant and made it less enjoyable to eat there.
