Not my favorite place. The star was very nice and polite. We did not care for all the food and they did comp it off the bill. But the sushi we ordered was great. Wow! This place is the best sushi in Rapid City by far. Located inside the Rapid City mall you can enter directly from the outside of via the inside of the mall. It's located closer to JCPenney. The service was fast and friendly. The restaurant is small and intimate. We started off with the crab Rangoon and it was great. 6 pieces of absolute yumminess. Love the restaurant ambiance, warm and quite. Service is nice and quick. Food was ok for my taste. I had bento box salmon teriyaki. The sauce on top of salmon was good but they also have a different sauce on top of veggies and that sauce was too sweet. I also order takoyaki. I love it. We always take our grandson out for sushi when visiting from Virginia. This is our favorite place in Rapid City. We prefer the ambience of the older Japanese decor here along with dim lights. The Gyoza dumplings are always a hit with us, but we were a bit disappointed with the way they do shrimp shumai. The lunch special of three rolls for $16.95 is a tremendous bargain for a sushi house. The rolls were just as we expected. Service was efficient and kind, and most importantly it was a special moment with our grandson! read more

This is our favorite Asian food place in Rapid. Don't confuse it with the subpar Fuji hibachi across town. Totally different and higher quality food. They work with me on customizing rolls thanks to my many aversions and allergies; and they do it with a smile. They're great with my kids and the selection is vast. I almost don't want to leave this review as it's already hard to get in to eat. But they deserve the recognition. Don't let the location keep you from trying it. Finally I found katsu in Rapid! I have not ordered from this restaurant since living in Rapid because until recently their full menu wasn't online which was a red flag in my opinion. However they have since added their menu so we ordered and glad I did! I had the katsu bento box. Everything was great the hot and sour soup nice and rich in flavor. The California roll was just the right amount and I liked that dumplings were included. Everyone else in the party enjoyed their food and we def plan to try them out for happy hour and will for sure order from here again very soon. read more

What a horrible experience!! I am not a person that usually leaves a bad review but the staff took forever just to give us a menu. Then 15 min later asked us what we wanted to drink, after another 15 min he took our orders. Literally 45 min later we received our food. They did not even bring our appetizers out to us. The good think of all the food we order was the sushi, the Jack Roll was my favorite. Even though they messed up half of our orders. Sorry but we will never go there again. read more

Oh yes, another one, I'm on a roll... and speaking of rolls! (You're welcome for the lame pun...pun? I think it's a pun?) Fuji Sushi & Sake Bar has slowly won my favor. They have surpassed my expectations and they have taken over as my go to spot here in RC. The food is always timely and always delicious. From sashimi, to nigiri, to hand rolls, and creative one of a kind American style rolls they deliver. Also, they deliver in consistency as well. (I'm not sure how many of my reviews you may've indulged in so far, but consistency is a staple for me.) Also-also, they have a wide variety of sake and boba teas to suit you. The staff is friendly and accommodating (#FoodAllergies), and are always willing to help with your experience. They take care of you and once more are timely. Honestly if you're in the RC area and want good sushi sans the Teppan then make your way to this location conveniently placed in the mall. I know some who dig their other location, but check them both and see what you dig. This has been another one and I'm going to try keep the reviews a rollin'. A great restaurant should have at least two out of three things be excellent: customer service, taste of food, and pricing (how much you get for what you pay). When one thing is "meh," another questionable, and the last one is dreadful, then you're in trouble. We had gone to Fuji at the Rushmore Mall years ago but never went back and couldn't remember why. After reading the great reviews on Yelp and hearing from a couple people that it had the best sushi in town, we thought we'd revisit the place. Now we know why we're never coming back. To be fair, the customer service was decent. Some of the food was actually okay in taste, like the miso soup and Naturo and King Rolls. However, the King and Ace Rolls we ordered tasted too much alike and the Dynamite Roll, which the waitress recommended, was just plain gross. It had too much cream cheese and the sauce on top looked like nacho cheese sauce and had a mysteriously bland flavor to it. However, the nail in this coffin was the pricing. We paid over $65 for four rolls, two bowls of soup and one pot of tea! What we got for food proportion was plain ridiculous. The pieces of the Ace Roll were so small you felt like you were popping a cough drop into your mouth. We're used to their competitor's (Ichiban) across town whose large pieces of sushi roll are twice the size and require you to take a couple bites to get them in your mouth. These pieces were so small you never worried at all about chewing on them. There was so little to what we ordered that my daughter was still hungry when we finished and so were we (which never happens at their competitor's place). I can get more sushi rolls with MUCH better flavor at Sam's Club for a third of the price! No reason for me to come back here just for the decent customer service. read more

Pleasantly surprised! I've tried different rolls and cuts of sashimi and I must say this is the only place in town that I can't tell if the fish they used was frozen or not. This place is amazing, but could be better at times. I've been here about 4 times to be exact and will say that the yum yum sauce does hit in a exponential way that none would predict. The only reason why I'm giving 4 of 5 is because when someone asks for medium rare, he wants it medium rare, not raw. 5 stars for the delicious poke bowl, ($19.00), and the great service! They were behind at the sushi bar when we arrived, but our waiter was up front about it and apologized that there would be a bit longer wait than usual. Staff checked back on us several times and kept us abreast of the situation. They handled it very well. It happens. The fish was perfect! And plenty of ginger with the poke bowl... I didn't have to ask for more. ( like most sushi places). Worth the price. I will be craving the poke bowl forever! read more

I've been to plenty of sushi places especially since I'm moving here from (over priced) California, and I am so happy that this place is here. It's amazing! A little piece of heaven! I never got a chance to try the sushi boat, and their was absolutely delicious! We ate everything with enough room for dessert! What I was so happy they had was the Tempura Ice Cream! I've had it once in California, but I noticed that other sushi place did not have it so when I saw it, I had to order because it was definitely something I knew my hubby has tried yet, and he LOVED it. He actually ate it all with me. He normally has a few bites then passes everything to me so I'm so glad he enjoyed it like I knew he would. I would definitely recommend this to people especially my family & friends when they come to visit us in Rapid City! Definitely will be a date night spot for me and the hubby as well! Being from SoCal, just 40 minutes from the ocean, there's an assumption that one's proximity to the Pacific somehow increases the likelihood that seafood will be more fresh than, say, a sushi restaurant attached to a shopping mall that is closer to the geographic center of North America than it is to the nearest ocean basin. And yet when the sushi big catches you, you sort of throw caution to the wind, and rely on distribution channels and 21st century refrigeration to ensure that your meal of raw fish on pillows of sticky rice will somehow make it all work out. I have to say, that here in South Dakota--a state I associate more with walleye and northern pike than ahi and hamachi--we found a gem of a sushi joint just a short drive from Mt. Rushmore! Our takeout sushi meal was prepared with all the skill and refinement you might expect at a schwanky sushi place in Culver City or Pasadena. The fish was as fresh as we could want, the rice was perfect with just the right amount of vinegar and sugar, and the rolls were downright pretty. Prices were not bad, either, considering the efforts that must be taken to ensure that fish arrives and is served "sushi grade" just east of the Black Hills. Inside, you'd swear you weren't eating at a mall; for our part, it was easier to get everything to go and dine on our motel beds than traipse-in with kids and donning road trip garb. Speaking strictly as an out-of-towner, more likely to take campy pictures at historical landmarks and marvel at the pheasants and pronghorns hanging out along the highway, I was pleasantly surprised and satisfied with our decision to Mack on some maki, with thunderstorms as background ambiance. Big city living is different than my extended family's small town on the other side of the state, but when you're on vacation, you sort of roll with it. We didn't have to roll nothing to enjoy these rolls and sushi treats. Good eats, and I definitely recommend if you're ever in Rapid City and looking for a viable alternative to Arby's. read more

Initially I was very reluctant to try this place, (it's at the mall) but I'm so glad I tried it!!!! I've eaten at all the sushi places in the area, and have to admit that I had been making concessions and lowering my sushi standards because well, SD. I just came from Seattle where there are probably more sushi places than American restaurants and felt like most of the places I've tried so far were not very fresh and had at least 1 disappointing roll on my plate. It sucks to feel like you've wasted money, but this place almost made me feel like I gained some money and actually had a few rolls that are better than in Seattle! I've been so impressed as to come here twice in one week! Best things I tried/ very unique: Sweet potato roll (deeply flavorful, warm, and with a sticky sweet sauce/ crispy sesame seeds) Pineapple Sake (chilled, house marinated pineapples come with the sake) Avocado peanut rolls (never heard of these before but crunchy roasted peanuts inside add some good texture and protein). As a vegetarian who loves and craves sushi, I am deeply appreciative to find a place that uses almost as much brainpower, creativity, and passion for the veggie menu as for the regular menu. I hope they continue to innovate in this area! The atmosphere is cute and would be a good spot for a date. Despite being in the mall, you really feel transported to a stand alone tropical dining room. This has been a family favorite for years now! Absolutely incredible food and service! I will be a regular at this restaurant for as long as I live in rapid! The only down side, is that after covid, the hours seem really sporadic so it's difficult to make it into the restaurant. It feels like every time I want to come in, they're closed. We came to this place based on the reviews in yelp. As mentioned by other yelpers, Restaurant is attached to the mall but once inside you don't feel like you are in the mall. It's has a Mom and Pop feel and the service was great. We had the salmon and tuna sushi lovers and it was pretty decent for SD. The tiger roll was good as well. Boba was a treat to have but it's nothing to rave about. Would definitely come back for more sushi. read more

Great customer service! We received a warm welcome and seated right away. The sushi was better than I expected for mall sushi in South Dakota. We shared 4 rolls - crazy eel, salmon roll, spicy crab, and dynamite roll. All of them were pretty good, but I probably wouldn't order the dynamite again.
