My twin boys are in the military and one of them is a helicopter pilot. So, this pilot and aircraft themed eatery is one of their favorite places in Denver. Plus, the calzones are simply fantastic. I asked the twins where they wanted to go for dinner on their birthday and they both said, "The Afterburner". We walked in and were met by Hillary, one of the owners. She treated us like gold and chatted us up the entire time she was making our calzones. When we sat down with our beer and calzones, we were impressed by the sheer quantity of ingredients Hillary managed to jam into our calzones. It was my first experience with Franks Hot Sauce and that shit is addictive good. When Hillary found out if was their birthday, she gifted them both a huge chocolate chip cookie a piece. About halfway through our meal, the other owner walked in. His name is Ben. He chatted us up for an hour about planes and other such aviation oriented things. My sons had an absolute blast talking to Ben and bullshitting about all things military. The aviation theme and the references to TopGun make this place tons of fun. This place caught my eye on a late night walk as it served calzones late into the evening. They specialise in calzones and offer custom ordering featuring a ton of vegan and gluten free options! I tried the maverick and the iceman. Both were so good and the dairy free cheese was better than expected! The garlic butter reminded me a lot of Papa Johns sauce. Service was very quick and very accommodating. Place was spacious and had lots of seating. Would definitely go in again. read more

Full Afterburner Calzones has delicious calzones. They aren't too greasy and cheesy like many other calzones I've had. The staff is very friendly and fun. The whole restaurant is top gun / fighter jet themed which adds to the overall experience. You can get one of the calzones or the menu or BYO. They also offer alcoholic beverages and sodas to complement. They are open late if you are looking for a post bar meal. read more

At first you may be tempted to think that these calzones are smaller than normal ones, but that's not true. They just don't have that thick braided edge of dough that's usual. The crust itself is utterly delicious--it has lots of flavor in and of itself and so isn't just a vehicle for the filling. Oh, and about the filling--so good! We've been there twice, and I couldn't keep myself from ordering the meatball one again. (I think it's the "Wingman.") Do not give this place your money. The owner doesn't follow food safety regulations (no gloves) on top of treating customers like complete garbage. When asked why he was being so rude he responded with "it's my shop and I can treat people however I want." To make this terrible experience worse, the chicken made me sick. Ordered delivery due to the pandemic.  I built my own custom pepperoni calzone with mozzarella and ricotta cheeses. I didn't see Italian sausage as a topping choice. Meatballs yes, but no sausage? Ugh. Darn.  It wasn't clear upon ordering a custom calzone if it actually came with sauce, as is standard for a calzone. So I ordered extra at two different places, as a topping and as a side. Can't ever have too much sauce as usually calzones come with scarce sauce. It didn't come with sauce and I was glad I picked some extra and the extra was necessary.  Calzone seemed small. I was still slightly hungry afterwards.  Crust was great. Cooked perfect. Toppings were just ok. Cheesees were good. Marinara sauce could use something. Mild in flavor. Very unimpressed. If you're suuuuper into the fighter jet theme whatever but everything sucks. First they DO NOT have a full bar like it says. They have a beer and shot special I. The sign but the guy working said they don't have any liquor..? The buffalo chicken calzone was very basic. AND SERVE IN BOXES PLEASE. You get handed a hot calzone in a. Fool paper sleeve. It's is a small place that sells cadd calzones & beer. Four of us went to dinner around 9pm on a Friday. Excellent late night/early morning meal. Calzones are excellent and the staff extremely friendly and fun. The calzones are roughly $13. We would definitely go back. read more

I've had an affinity for calzones since I was young. Never particularly cared for pizza and preferred my toppings enclosed in a delicious crust of dough. Full Afterburner is a dream come true for people like me, as well as the owners Hillary and Ben. I've been here a few times (while barhopping on Broadway) and always take friends to experience the laidback atmosphere and enticing aromas. I don't have a favorite type of calzone. All their ingredients are great, served piping hot as it melts all over your mouth. Pick one of their premade options or customize what's in your "pocket". Wash it down with a beverage. Love that they have Cutwater, which is the best canned cocktail brand. I'd say the place is best for small groups or even one-on-one time with friends. It can get crowded, but it kinda contributes to the fun community vibe that you see in the movie Top Gun. EVERYTHING is themed around that movie (even the calzones) so come check out this "Danger Zone", especially if you're feeling even a liiiittle bit tipsy. Staff is wonderful to chat with, too. 5/5 for the ambiance and Top Gun theme, which they did not take lightly. There were fighter planes and other references all over and for a theme restaurant, I thought it was well done. The place was clean and empty at 7pm on a Saturday. Two groups of people came in, looked at the menu, and left. 3/5 for the calzone itself. I got the Maverick which is basically buffalo chicken. It was lukewarm inside which made the chicken unappealing. The ingredients weren't well mixed in and all the buffalo sauce was at the bottom. They have gluten-free dough and vegan options so it seems like a pretty inclusive place to eat. read more

We stopped by Full Afterburner in between the Oscar shorts at the Mayan and it was the perfect snack/chill spot. Not sure how calzones equal planes but it was still a cool concept. My husband and I split the Goose (red sauce, mozzarella, ricotta, and pep) and it was delicious. Definitely a little greasy so I'm sure it's fantastic tipsy/drunk food if you're out bar hopping on S. Broadway! The only real negative, which I saw others had mentioned, was the dough. It was good... but it was a very flat calzone which I'm not use to. read more

Great food I had the Goose. I would definitely go again when someone is there happy to serve. I am confident we arrived during a time that inconvenienced the staff (Monday 8/15 1pm) as she stamped pizza boxes. No eye contact, rude with tone when engaged. Loved the theme. read more

Compared to DP Dough, Full Afterburner has much better calzones and they are about 25 cents cheaper. I personally prefer afterburner to support a small local business and receive better quality food. They are always super nice and the theme is cool. read more

I ordered the "bogey" meatballs, which were supposed to come with a sweet chili sauce. got my order home and no sauce, just bland, dry meatballs with no sauce. I also ordered the breadsticks, which were just as flavorless as the marina sauce. read more

Calzones are tasty. They are maybe not classic? More like hand pie style. But at least for our 3, they were made right on the spot. I didn't ask but the pastry/crust is ever so slightly wheat. I would give this place 3.5 stars if it were an option, but I'll round it up to 4. I generally like this place, the food is pretty decent, and not terribly overpriced like so many restaurants in Denver. That being said, they sell a $12 dessert calzone that seems like it should taste like a crepe, but you're essentially paying for bread crust and a very thin spread of Nutella. For $12. At least hook us up with the Nutella for that price! read more

I was looking forward to this only to my suprise it was a flat as a pancake. The dough was not fresh and was pre-made and stayed flat. I had the goose. For the price I won't be coming back. This place is a great place. I got the meatballs 16 of them and a special calzone i got to invent from the menu. The calzone was full of ingredients and the sauce on the meatballs was phenomenal. I also used the dipping sauce the marinara full of flavor. Its not over powering with tomato taste, it has the perfect amount of ingredients to give it a great smooth flavor. The dough is not bready like alot of places are. Its perfectly flavored and i tried to get owner bens secret flavoring but didnt have much luck lol. The service is great.
