As you can see the monstrous potato fills the whole take out container yet there was hardly any chicken or bacon, sour cream; just generally lacking. I would rather have a non GMO spud that is proportioned to the toppings that are supposed to come with it. Major let down. read more

Hate to post this but feel I have to. We have been Full Moon customers since it opened on Southside in a block building. Have been to Hoover more times than I can count but lately the food quality has taken a nose dive. Early December 2 Pork plates to go got them home and the BBQ was like soup. Evidently run through a food processor and resembled ground beef. Called they said sorry took our name and said come have a free plate on us. Went back this past week free plates sauce on the side but again not edible. There were chunks of fat that had been run through the food processor and no taste except the sauce. Again could not eat mentioned to manager who just said sorry. I don't know what has happened but the quality of food has fallen to the point we won't be back. Hate it because we loved their sides and chocolate chip cookies. read more

All the food is fantastic at Full Moon and the service is also great. I have been disappointed with the onion rings. They now have a thick breading and this makes them mushy and not crunchy! Please bring back the crispy and lighter version! Keep everything else the same ! read more

I actually love the flavor of the food here. It's good bbq. It's just a hot mess every time I come. If I call an order in, I usually have to wait 10-15 minutes longer than they tell me it will take. And it just seems chaotic trying to tell them I am here, then paying for my food, then actually getting the food. Streamline the service and it's 4-5 stars. read more

I feel like it's a hit or miss at this location. Sometimes my order is perfect and other times, I feel like I've been jipped. However, I do like it enough to go back if I'm craving BBQ because it has the convenience of the drive-thru - and when they do get things right, it does hit the spot. Most of the time than not, the person in the drive-thru taking my order sounds irritated. But I can overlook the bitter attitude if my order is correct. It isn't the best BBQ I've had, but with convenience in mind, it's not a bad option if you're craving it. If anything, their half moon cookies are amazing. When I want BBQ, Full Moon is one of the best in town. It's a hit and miss on when you order sometimes. Sometimes it's exactly right, other times not so right. Today I went there to order food for take out. I ordered the food and they call my number and I left. Only to find out when I arrived home somethings were missing and others were wrong. It's a 10 minute drive back and I'm so disappointed that I didn't check the order when I left. Half expecting to argue or pay for an item again. When I arrived back, I told the cashier who told the manager. The manager and I talked for a bit. All I wanted was the missing items and to correct the other items. The manager went above and beyond my expectations. He had the whole order recreated. And he asked me what kind of dessert I wanted and how many orders. I would've been happy with 1 piece of their great chocolate pie, but he gave me 3 slices and a package of their world famous chocolate dipped chocolate chip cookies. very disappointed...ordered 2 servings of brisket and one soda the cost was almost $50. wouldn't have minded if it was really good but came swimming in bbq sauce and tasted overdone. small portion size of meat too. I always go in and order a half slab of ribs and it's the best $10.00 you will ever spend. I was heading home from work and got some ribs to go. When I got home I think the cook found the smallest and oldest ribs and put them in my box. I know the cook would of been pissed if he got home and got the ribs I got. This is one of the blue bloods of Birmingham bbq. Been around for a long time and has always had great food. The bbq is as good as anybody's but the menu has much more than just bbq. Great burgers, a really good hot dog, good catfish and my favorite is the pork links. read more

We just love Full Moon. I know that we have a bevy of bbq places to chose from around us, but we just love this place. The food and quality are always consistent and they have a little bit of everything to satisfy everyone. Pork, chicken, ribs, hamburgers, even fried catfish. The Brunswick stew and chili are always delicious as well. The nachos are always a good way to start off or if you're my husband, a perfect meal for one. Their wings are so ridiculously good with a great char on them and smoky taste. My daughter and I will share a baker stuffed with pork bbq or chicken. They are massive!! All of their sandwiches are great, we love their baked beans, cole slaw, chow chow, and white sauce. We put their white sauce on everything- a baker, fried green tomatoes, even dip a hamburger in it. It's just that good! The pork has a great flavor and is never dry, just like their chicken. Smoky flavor but now overpowering and the barbecue sauce isn't sugary sweet. We do like to order their value meals to go and just take it with us. As far as something sweet, we always leave with a few of their half moon cookies. We also like all of their desserts, the carrot cake, key lime, coconut, and chocolate pie. Great menu, great food, and great value! read more

1st to review--that's surprising since Full Moon BBQ has been a long time staple in Hoover. The Mr. has continuously raved about the BBQ and bakers here for years now. Back in town for a visit and after a particularly nasty fight, I decided to drown my anger in starch. Bc that's always a good idea. Full moon not only has monstrous baked potatoes, they are enormously proud of them. My usual anywhere is a broccoli baker--you gotta squeeze your veggies in somehow. The baker is of course slathered with an amount of butter that Paula Deen would be jealous of. It's is also topped with sour cream, scallions & cheddar cheese. If you're watching your figure, well, you wouldn't be here in the 1st place. They steam the broccoli when you order, so no worries about chewiness. As if the 3lb of starch wasn't enough, I also got a side of fried okra bc you HAVE TO HAVE fried okra all the time. Full moon also fries them per order and they are perfection--good crust to okra ratio and perfectly salty enough. The service is quick. The key like pie is delicious. Full moon isn't somewhere I would say you should eat everyday, but if you're trying to eat your problems, this is the place to do it. read more

If you are trying to social distance don't go here. We called in an order and paid over the phone thinking they offered both curbside pick up and a drive through so their should be no issues. No one was bringing food to curb so I got in the drive through line. It took forever but thats fine.They were angry when I got to the order window because I had already called in an order then they insisted I come inside. I told them no. Then when I got to the pick up window they still argued with me about coming inside.They basicly asked everyone I saw to come inside and get their food. I have never sat down and eaten here, I always call in a pick up order! 9 times out of 10 it is right. The people at the pick up line are nice and get you your food quickly. I have noticed that the restaurant is fairly small and can be a tad bit crowded and noisy. I can't really speak for the wait staff and their friendliness, but the take out staff does a pretty good job. As far as the food goes, it's good BBQ! I usually always get the BBQ baker! It's a huge potato (usually I only eat half) full of BBQ, cheese, bacon, sour cream and butter! Not healthy at all, but delicious! Today I chose to try something a little different. Been to Fullmoon few times and they never fail. Introduced my Canadian bf to Jim N' Nicks first and he definitely approve of Full Moon. FM had better service and we didnt had to wait over 30 mins for our food. It was delicious, was NOT dry, and size of food was awesome. I ordered Riblets and my bf ordered roasted chicken. When my bf asked for no sauce they were happy to accomodate us without hesitation. Food was warm, flavorful and not dry or hard. Their service was so friendly and they made several recommendations and asked what we were in mood for to guide us to good meal. Im happy to say that Full Moon is full of goodies from chicken to pork to accommodate your palettes. Only thing I suggest is hope they have malt vinegar. Yes, I know its weird but its so good. The quality and customer service here was fantastic! All the people were SO nice there. We watched as each tray was looked over before being delivered. Since the sign said they are famous for their ribs, that's what we ordered. The ribs were SOooooOooOoo good!!!! The fried green tomatoes were too greasy though. I enjoy coming to this location often. I love their Fried Green Tomatoes!!! The sweet tea is AMAZING every time. As far as them following COVID-19 guidelines, masks aren't always worn (or worn correctly) by workers. Every trip I see something different. Some trips everyone is masked up, some they aren't. The lack of following guidelines is what caused a 4/5 for me. It's not really spacious in the waiting area, so if a good bit of people are in, you can't really distance correctly. My food was great this trip and the service was as well. I just want them to adhere to guidelines more. read more

I ordered 2 large pulled pork sandwiches and 1 chicken sandwich. Both with extra sauce. I specifically asked for no chow chow sauce and no pickles on each! Instead, I received 1 large and 1 regular pulled pork sandwich. All with chow chow sauce and pickles including my chicken sandwich. They even wrapped the chicken sandwich inside out. Enough that I will not go there anymore. I don't expect perfection, but I do expect to be treated with just a little respect. This is my 101st Yelp review of a barbecue restaurant, but this one will be different. I've spent a lifetime in pursuit of the perfect barbecue, but this time it isn't about the food; it's about the people, one person, and how that can tell you so much about the organization... and in this case, it's not pretty. We opted for dinner at the Valley Avenue @Full Moon Barbecue and, before we left, asked to buy a tee-shirt to add to the collection of more than 200 from across the country. They were out and suggested we go to another store. We phoned and then went to Full Moon's Hoover store the next morning where they had the shirts in stock. Fine and good to this point. Just about the time we were ready to pay, an overstuffed guy comes storming in, shouting at the manager about never letting some woman back in the store, what a terrible job he was doing, and, for a good five minutes, ripping him up one side and down the other. We (four of us) were across the room and were embarrassed for the store manager. Worse, he was being humiliated, stripped bare, in front of his staff. I'm guessing that it was the restaurant manager Mr. Bigshot Home Office was very loudly stripping of any pride or dignity in front of a stunned staff and customers. As best I remember, managing by threats and intimidation went out in the 50s. You praise in public and criticize in private. Were it any of us, we'd have handed in the keys and been out the door. What does this say about the Full Moon's upper management? And why would I want to spend my money in a place where employees are treated so shabbily? Never mind the food; it was just mediocre for a chain; the action of one of Full Moon's bosses shouted volumes. Very loud, very crude, very embarrassing volumes. We've been and won't be back and hope the manager finds a less hostile work environment. read more

I have been going to this full moon my entire life and have never been dissatisfied until today. I'm not sure what has happened to this specific restaurant, but I will never step foot inside again. It was disgusting. There was trash all over the floor, every chair was pulled out from under the tables, and the workers appeared to not care about the customers. At one point I saw an employee taking orders for the drive thru while sitting at a table with a friend. The appearance of the inside of the restaurant made me lose my appetite. AND they were out of potatoes. Overall, a terrible experience and a very dirty restaurant. read more

This used to be my favorite BBQ in town, but my last 3 visits have now taken them off my list. Full Moon at Patton Chapel in Hoover service has gone down hill once I waited 30 minutes and my friend 45 to be served, no apologies, no excuses, just bad service. The next visit was worse food was served cold and no manager was available I wrote an email, was promised a gift card, never received it. This last time I called the order in advance, chicken wings and a chicken Baker. I told them at the drive through and at the window my order. Got the Baker and a Turkey salad. How hard is this to do its BBQ, it's already prepared. I'm done, never again, they lost a good customer who has been going there since they opened! read more

The food was good once I got the correct order. Did the drive thru, ordered a loaded baker, got home to discover they gave me a veggie plate. Drove back, they were now out of potatoes (of course they were they gave mine to someone else). Got a sandwich instead. They gave me two cookies and a soda for the trouble. While I was waiting someone else came in that had just gone through the drive thru saying they didn't get one of the sandwiches they ordered. Fortunately for them they checked before they drove home. Quality barbecue, I've been going to this location and others for years, and I'm not often disappointed. This is a spot where I've tried most of the menu and it's all proper. My favorites are the ribs (sauce on the side) and sliced pork (combination of inside/outside cuts). Only thing I'm not wowed by is the barbecue sauce, but it's still beyond many of the other spots in the city. Sometimes the place is a bit crowded during lunch hours, and it can be a madhouse on barbecue holidays like Independence Day, those ribs are worth it though. read more

Not much of a bbq fan, but this place was nice! I got a grilled chicken finger sandwich and was very pleased with my order. My boyfriend order a slab of ribs and although I don't eat pork it looked nice an juicy! I know he sure did enjoy them. For this place not to be an "order at the counter" place they still had good table service. There was a nice women walking around asking if we needed refills or anything at all so that really caught my attention! The store was a nice size and not overcrowded. I noticed they had a drive though as well! :) they brought our food out pretty quickly which you can't go wrong with that. Constructive criticism: I have noticed over the past few months there has been issues with everyone of my orders. Some could say that I am the common denominator and it could just be me. However, other friends and family members are saying otherwise. Here are some examples: Chicken on salad-the chicken was left off, 3 salads- we asked for Greek dressing- NO dressings were put on the salads, chicken on salad- I was given I Greek salad-I hate feta cheese, and I can't tell ya how many times fried green tomatoes have been order and payed for but not put in our bag. I am not sure how the process looks for orders, (like if there is checklist or it is done by verbal commutation) but something needs to change. The food is alway great (shoutout to the cooks, it what keeps us coming back! ), but whether I'm trying to dine-in, pick up or door dash I am have been having issues recently. I enjoy full moon and know that this establishment can do better. If service does change, I will gladly change my review. But tonight as me and my roommates eat our salad with no dressing, you could say we little salty. read more

I got the loaded baker and it was more than I could eat. The potato was huge, I have never seen a potato so big. The pork was so tender it almost melted in my mouth. BBQ sauce was served warm and was delicious. Sampled some chow chow which reminded me a little of cole slaw although looks nothing like it in appearance. Staff was friendly and eager to please. Absolutely a great culinary experience as I am from New England and was my first experience at a Full Moon. I will be going back when I head back that way next year. read more

My wife and I had lunch today at the Hoover location. My wife ordered 3 bone rib sandwich $6.69, slice of pie $3.79 and 16 oz. sweet tea. I ordered regular BBQ sandwich $5.59, baked beans $2.89 and fries $2.89. Total b/4 tax should have been $23.84. However, my total came to with tax $40.59. Checked with employee and he was going to get me a credit of $14.22. When we received our meal, the ribs were not tender, no pie, but was brought later and tea was unsweetened. Instead of getting baked beans, I got deviled eggs. They took the eggs back and replaced with beans. The fries could have been hotter. We've eaten there several times before and had good food.
