I came in with detailed notes, extensive prior testing, and a clear history of my symptoms. At first, I was hopeful because Sanaz seemed invested in helping me. Over time, however, that changed. At nearly every appointment, my symptoms were attributed to "stress," the blanket root cause when a doctor can't figure out what is wrong with you but doesn't want to refer you to someone more knowledgeable. When progress stalled, the recommendation was often additional expensive testing. Unfortunately, those results were rarely reviewed in meaningful detail, and I often felt I could have gotten a similar summary from AI. One of the biggest frustrations was that it took about eight months to recognize that I wasn't absorbing my transdermal hormones, even though my symptoms persisted and my lab values weren't improving. That delayed a treatment change that, should have been identified much sooner. The membership model also became frustrating. You pay a monthly fee, yet appointments with the physician are typically spaced 6-12 weeks apart, making progress feel unnecessarily slow. During appointments, it often seemed like little had been reviewed beforehand. I frequently had to remind Sanaz about previous discussions, medications, and even tests she had ordered. My final appointment was especially disappointing. Once I shared that I would not be renewing my membership, the tone of the visit changed dramatically. I felt dismissed, patronized, and was told she would not consider any of the treatment options I wanted to discuss because I only had three weeks of membership remaining. When I expressed that I felt the conversation had become unprofessional, she became downright rude and snarky. I also found it concerning when she explained that she has too many patients to keep track of everyone's care. As a patient paying a premium membership fee, I expected more personalized attention. The practice markets itself as functional, patient-centered medicine, but that was not my experience. Instead, I often felt unheard, dismissed, and left paying for an expensive membership without meaningful progress. Great sales pitch to get you signed on for a year but once you're in they don't care. I don't understand how they can feel good about what they do as medical professionals, I feel sick about the hard earned money and time I wasted there and the people I referred to them. Take your money elsewhere if you want to actually feel better, this place is no better than Sutter or Kaiser.

Imagine you, too, being in this situation...and how you'd cope. Then, make your gynecologist appointment with Dr Scates or someone else. At least you know what you are potentially getting into. I showed up to the ER 5 weeks ago with profusive vaginal bleeding, more than a period and lots of webby like clots that looked very odd. It was a mix of the brightest of red, runny blood, and horrifically black-ish clots, that opened up into a snowflake pattern. I was in pain and felt feverish. After tests and US, I was diagnosed with a blighted ovum. I was told to come back in a few days to get retested. Came back. Blighted ovum confirmed. Add in severe flank pain and vaginal tenderness now. A D&C was needed, they said. Called the on call doctor...Dr.Scates, who, assumedly was on call.... He was out of town. Vacation. This should have been clue #1.... PA says that the doctor instructed that I be at his office top of the morning! I balk at this and think about trying to get the day off. The PA immediately chides me and tells me that I should be grateful a doctor is willing to clear his schedule for us. Taking the day off, the doctor feigns ignorance of any call from the hospital. After much conversation and the staff telling me I was covered by insurance...lol..., he agrees to see me in the office. To my surprise, he agreed to do it. He said the scheduler would try for Friday. If not, Thursday after work, he would fit me in. I tell him any time but xxx day at xxx time. Even later in that day was ok. Just not that exact time. He wrote his scheduler a note to the same, shook our hands, gave us his business cards...called it a day. Scheduler called. Scheduled it for..you guessed it...and never called back. Here I am, 2 weeks later. More severe symptoms. I ask Dr. Scates office to send me my records. I need to find a doctor pronto. According to the Case Management nurse, this can get life threatening. I'm in pain...trying to keep composed...lightly humming to myself. The front desk lady BLOWS a gasket because I am humming to try to keep myself from crying each time a sharp pain hits my vagina area. Seriously people...imagine one of those long hat pins sticking you straight up the softest part of your vagina, and you will know how it felt. Willing to risk a patients life...leave a patient in severe pain....frustrate that patients effort to find another doctor. This is what I dealt with. Think twice, choose your doctor once.

We lost a month with my 88 year old dad in terms of getting into a specialist because of their lack of responsiveness: My 88-year-old father recently had a transient ischemic attack (TIA) and was discharged from the hospital with instructions to follow up with a cardiologist. His primary care physician sent a referral to Roseville Cardiology Medical Associates. Over the next three weeks I called the cardiology referral department six separate times and left voicemail messages requesting a callback so we could schedule the appointment. In each message I explained that my father had recently been hospitalized and urgently needed cardiology follow-up. I never received a return call. Today a home health nurse contacted the office to escalate the issue and we learned that the cardiology office had declined the referral due to my father's secondary insurance and had sent a fax to the primary care office. However, the primary care office never received the fax and we were never notified of the decision. If we had been contacted, we would have agreed to pay any copays or out-of-network costs to ensure he received care. My concern is that despite multiple calls regarding an elderly patient with a recent TIA, the office never returned our calls and did not notify us directly that the referral had been declined. This lack of communication resulted in a significant delay in necessary cardiology follow-up care.
