edited to add 2 days later: still received no response from the business and they blocked me on instagram after flagging no sign on door and that last minute cancelation was rude. rescheduled me with 30 minute notice then canceled my appointment 20 MINUTES BEFORE WHEN I WAS ALREADY ON THE WAY. i showed up and called 5+ times to ask for explanation but no one is answering (not even a voicemail to leave messages!) and the place is closed with no note on door. minimal notice and explanation to CLIENTS WITH APPOINTMENTS. extremely unprofessional business and it's sad they can't even follow their own cancelation policy. even if there is a personal emergency or shop issue that affects appointments, there should be explanation to clients on door and online with ample notice. read more

Decided to book a last minute appointment today to get a third lobe piercing. Everyone in the store was very friendly and were helpful when I was selecting jewelry. I knocked off a star because the selection of studs was minimal. They didn't have a lot of paired studs to choose from and I am very satisfied with how they look but would have loved to explore something a little more nonstandard. I really appreciated how transparent they were with the pricing as well. Cuba was a great piercer and I felt comfortable during the whole process. Love my piercings they look great! Will update if something changes with the healing. read more

Cuba has been working in this industry for over 20 years is very professional! The shop and staff are always friendly. I can't say enough about how patience they were with me allowing time to browse and make selections. Plus it is always nice to see the items up close. Cuba ensures you see him wash his hands, autoclave your selection, cleans and prep your ears. He will talk you through each step of the process which I love I feel like I am safe hands. I made an appointment to get my rook piercing in the beginning of April. I came back this time due to my latest rook piercing had swollen to the point the jewelry was almost engulfed one side. I made a 4 week piercing checkup and they were able to help. I had to switch out the longest piece of titanium jewelry they had on hand. I expressed to the piercer to make sure it was long. She explained that I need to keep an eye out for excessive swelling and a fever. She also advised to come back in a week to downsize. In my opinion, I will stick to my intuition and wait longer before I come back to have them downsize my jewelry! This is the second experience I had with a piercing swelling and the jewelry initially in place was not long enough to account for swelling from Fundamental. I just swell a lot ‍. Unfortunately each time the initially jewelry had to be switched out which required be to make multiple trips. For my next piercing I will ensure I have an extra long bar initially in place to prevent this from happening again ‍. All these early jewelry changes adds more time to the healing process and can be uncomfortable. This shop is by appointment only so no walk-ins to browse. Frustrated with the selection of jewelry at other shops, I called fundamental to specifically ask if they had the type of jewelry I was looking for within my price point. The woman I spoke with on the phone assured me they had a great selection and arranged my appointment for the following day. I was really looking forward to the appointment. I showed up to an empty store with 3 people sitting around, I honestly didn't know if they worked there or were guests. Turns out they worked there but looked super unprofessional. I also got an email confirmation that my appointment would be with someone specific and when I showed up someone else helped me. I was frustrated in having to re-explain the specifics of what I was looking for (especially because the girl sitting off to the side was like "oh yeah you talked to me on the phone yesterday" but then took no further initiative to help me), and the 3rd girl there was scoffing and laughing at what I was asking for (!!! How rude!). They have a nice selection of $200 and up pieces of gold jewelry, but they don't offer much else. Anywhere else offers a MUCH more elaborate selection of titanium options. I ended up going elsewhere and spending a pretty penny on gold. I decided it was worth the splurge if it was somewhere I felt respected, and was treated with patience and kindness. I did not feel that from fundamental. I will not return and I would never recommend this place for any of my friends. read more

I had the most amazing experience at Fundamental! I had my septum pierced years back at another studio (and didn't have a great experience) and had to remove the jewelry recently for an unexpected surgery. I was terrified to put it back in and very very nervous coming into the studio, but Cuba was happy to help right when I walked in! He made me feel incredibly comfortable and talked me through the entire process and midway through my nerves were completely gone. I had such an amazing experience here! The space was clean and everything was sanitized. They are also in line with all the COVID restrictions. They walked me through all the jewelry (which the options are all amazing!). Then every step of the piercing process was explained to me as it was happening. I have many piercings but never had such a thorough explanation and examination before the piercing. They even checked my ear with a light to make sure they didn't pierce through a vein! I really debated on leaving a review many times but I think I should just share my experience and go from there. I've purchased over $400 in jewelry here and have gotten 2 piercings. I was iffy after the piercer pierced my Medusa since she seemed to be struggling quite a bit, I had it pierced before and it's been repierced 2 times before then and both times were very easy, quick and painless but I figured it could've been the scar tissue and gave her the benefit of the doubt. I had went to other places before that. I then went back to pierce my nostril, I asked it to be measured to be the same as my other. It definitely was not, it's a lot higher than my other one and she was struggling a lot with this one as well. Both situations were not my usual quick, easy piercings. There was a lot of struggle around it. It's been a couple months and it has since healed and it is a bit crooked as well as a lot higher than the one on my other side. What also upset me is I purchased an expensive piece of jewelry from this shop, I chose it from their case. But what I got was not the one I chose out of the case. The one I received was the same stone but it had more imperfections than the one I had chose from the case. Like black dots in the center and around. I didn't realize it until I got home and at first I thought it was just me. When I asked the owner about it he said sometimes they get like that over time, but it had only been a week or two. I don't know if that's how all piercing shops do it, if the ones on show are just for "show" and they swap w similar but I did not like that. I also felt dismissed when I asked the question. Personally, this was enough for me to not go back. I hope that they can use this review as feedback to better their business versus taking offense. I'll definitely be coming back. I came in to repierce my ears which were done at a mall store in my childhood, and promptly left earring-less for the rest of my life. Making an appointment was easy with their online booking, and the shop is very clean. They are taking appropriate measures to combat the current pandemic with hand washing, hand sanitizers and everyone wearing masks. The equipment and jewelry I chose was sterilized right before the procedure and I was shown the autoclave indicator strip to ensure cleanliness. I took my 8 year daughter to Fundamental to Get her ears pierced. Cuba is super nice and extremely experienced. He was very covid careful and the sterilization protocols seemed top notch. He took multiple measurements and studied her ears carefully before pinpointing the piercing location. My daughter can be a nervous Nellie and has a low pain threshold, but he put her entirely at ease and get this - she said it didn't even hurt! Like at all. No tears or even close! I came here around September for an earring replacememt (i got a clasped hoop) and the crew was very kind and helpful, but the jewelry was very expensive, close to $300, and I wasn't told the price until after jewelry was in and I already put my card in the machine. The clasp hoop earring ended up tarnishing and fell out my ear often, eventually falling out my ear outside, losing $300. Im pretty upset about the quality of the hoop. It had a diamond in it so I was told that's warranty could replace the hoop if the diamond falls, but now it's lost. I'm pretty upset about the extreme price for the sub par quality of my piercing. I'm giving 2 stars because even though the crew was nice, and maybe I just got a faulty hoop, but for close to $300 I expected to be buried with my piercing. read more

By some miracle of kindness and expertise, I am sitting on a plane with two, intact piercings that I got far too close to my flight this evening. Everything went great until I ripped out my brand new ear piercing 20 minutes before i was to leave for the airport and fly back to California. Somehow, I got packed, made it to the store and was back out in less than 5 minutes. Cuba (I think that's your name!) fixed the whole mess with a new earring and for no charge.
