I'm splitting this review into two experiences because they were honestly very different. 2021 | Nostril Piercing (5 stars) I had my nostril pierced by Jeff in 2021, and it was genuinely a great experience. I first came in for a consultation and then returned about a month later for the actual piercing. Jeff walked me through the process, explained everything, and made me feel comfortable. We chatted the entire time, which says a lot because I'm not naturally a super chatty person. The piercing healed beautifully, and I kept the original jewelry in for almost five years. May 2026 | Jewelry Change / Replacement (2 stars) Fast forward to May 2026, I bumped my nose at work and my jewelry fell out. I had already been wanting to switch out my jewelry, so I figured this was the universe giving me a reason. I booked a same-day appointment online, which was super convenient. This visit, however, felt like a completely different experience. The front desk staff member greeted me, but the interaction felt disengaged and not particularly welcoming from the start. I was explaining what happened and mentioning that I'd had my original jewelry in since 2021. While she kindly offered to place my old jewelry in a baggie, which I appreciated, the overall interaction felt very transactional rather than consultative. I specifically asked for recommendations for everyday, long-term wear jewelry because I don't plan on changing it often. I also asked about rose gold for everyday wear, hoping for a little guidance from someone who works with jewelry every day. The response I got was basically, "Why not?" It came across dismissive rather than helpful. The jewelry explanation itself felt confusing, and the interaction overall felt very blah. I'm warm and jokey by nature, so maybe I notice energy more than most, but boutique experiences, especially piercing studios, should feel a little more welcoming and consultative. I wasn't expecting over-the-top bubbly, but I was expecting someone who seemed interested in helping me choose jewelry I'd likely be wearing for years. I almost walked out, honestly. I stayed because Jeff ended up installing the new jewelry. But overall, the visit didn't feel great, and I left disappointed considering how positive my original experience had been. I still tipped, force of habit , but I walked away feeling like the service didn't match the experience I remembered from Luxe. I'm honestly disappointed to be writing this because I've had positive experiences here in the past and truly like the business owner. However, from the initial phone call to walking into my recent appointment, the energy felt completely different. There seem to be new staff members, and unfortunately the experience was not welcoming at all. I'm not sure of the associate's name (it wasn't Alex), but she was noticeably rude throughout my visit. Instead of feeling guided or taken care of, I felt like I was inconveniencing her. There was tension around simple things -- like me wanting to look at the jewelry options or asking about pricing before deciding on a chain. As a customer, that's part of the process. It should feel enjoyable and peaceful, not rushed or begrudging. I value good service and intentional experiences, especially when I'm spending my hard-earned money. This visit felt uncomfortable from start to finish, and I honestly couldn't wait for the appointment to be over. I had an excellent experience here last week. I wasn't sure if they were appointment only, but since I was only a few blocks away I gave it a shot. I have been wanting to swap out a piece of jewelry and get a post shortened. I stopped in but luckily they take walk-ins when they're not terribly busy and it was pretty quiet. Most of my time here was spent making a decision rather than waiting, even though they did have a couple appointments, so they work pretty quickly. This shop is immaculate. As with any reputable piercing shop, the place is super sterile. They have a small selection of jewelry but the pieces are nice. Although you'll need to go to a different shop for a much larger selection, they have more than just "starter jewelry", which I always appreciate. They also have a few price points represented so you can find something relatively inexpensive or something much higher end. The staff were professional, knowledgeable, and courteous. Even though I was going back and forth about my choice, the employee running the front desk was really patient. There was a customer who came in with an appointment for piercing so the staff member went to help her for a while and left me to ponder my choices. Mina is the one who swapped out my nostril piercing and shortened the post in my tragus, which has been long overdue (I got it pierced in February 2020 and then we all know what happened) and it looks and feels a lot better now. I'm pretty adamant about only ever using a professional piercer for my piercings or any my daughter may want in the future, and I'm glad that they're members of the Association of Professional Piercers here. If or when I get another piercing, I'd definitely consider coming here. Well, newsflash, you're not the one whose ear it's going in. Just a way to make you buy their overpriced earrings. They also need to understand when an adult brings in their child, it's the adult making the decisions, not the child, so stop addressing the kid directly. Condescending staff where they clearly can't go off script because when asking a question, they give you the same canned answer over and over. Never again and will let others know. Sorry to write this review but Jeff unfortunately has made a mistake piercing my face and now wants me to pay for him to fix it. I asked for a specific piercing which he said that he had never done before, but he was excited to do, and he pierced it crooked. I originally approached him and told him how the crookedness was bothering me, and he tried gaslighting me asking me if I was sure it was crooked and that "if I felt" it was crooked. What should I do about it. He also said that I could come down to the shop and have his employees. Tell me if they think it's crooked or not. I've attached pictures, it's obviously crooked. Because of how uncomfortable he made me feel via email I just tried to live with a mistake that he made on my face. I had people call out that it was crooked, which was extremely embarrassing to me. The piercing itself was also unexpectedly very painful and I did not want to go through a third piercing. But unfortunately, I've gotten to the point where the piercing being crooked has bothered me and how I see myself so much that I have to get it fixed and I have to go through the pain of the third piercing. Jeff wants to charge me $100 in order for him to fix his own mistake. Considering how much pain I went through, how embarrassing this whole thing was for me, how poorly he handled my initial reach out letting him know that it was crooked, and the fact that he had never done a piercing like this before, you would think he would be a little bit more open to rectify this situation in a way that doesn't make me responsible for the financial burden of his mistake. It's bad business practice, so just as long as everyone knows that if he makes a mistake, you'll pay for it! Then I think all is well. He also asked for payment and tip upfront, before the actual piercing is finished. I would've never tipped him and I tipped him way too generously if I had seen the result and it was crooked. One star only because zero isn't an option. I started coming to Luxe after the pandemic because they were closer to home than my favorite shop, Fundamental Piercing. The owner had a relationship with them, they sold the same jewelry, and it felt like a seamless extension of a place I already trusted. For years, the service matched that trust--until today. I came in for a follow-up after having retainers put in for surgery. I also wanted to get my earrings cleaned and was planning to purchase new jewelry. Mina, who usually helps me, wasn't in. Instead, I was helped by someone who seemed unsure from the start--asking how many earrings I had and generally seeming confused by what I needed. Then she hit me with, "For future reference, you should take your jewelry out before bringing it in to be cleaned--it's easier." That had never been mentioned before. I explained that Mina knew what I wanted and never said that. Already I felt uneasy--this was not the Luxe I knew. Still, I tried to proceed. I was shown some $90 pieces I would've bought without hesitation any other time, but the energy was off. I asked to see their more affordable pieces. This wasn't the high/end jewelry sort of trip. She showed me the $15-$20 titanium pieces. When she brought out the two different displays, I reached toward the display--not the jewelry itself--and was immediately scolded with a sharp "don't touch that," In all my previous visits, staff would hold up pieces next to your ear so you could visualize the fit. But now I'm being treated like I might run off with a $45 display of earrings? In truth, I didn't have my reading glasses and just wanted to see the jewelry better. Then came a breakdown of fees: one for the jewelry, one for the posts, one to put my other earring back in, and one to clean my earrings. That last one caught me off guard. I said I'd never known there was a fee for cleaning--because I hadn't. The staff member seemed unsure too and said we should ask the owner. Enter Jeffrey Clark. She explained part of the situation to him, and I explained the rest. I shared that every time I come in, I get my jewelry cleaned and adjusted and often buy something new. His immediate response? "If you got your earrings cleaned, you paid for it." No welcome. No curiosity. No care. Just condescension. For the record: I never said I wouldn't pay. I was just surprised--it had never been discussed or itemized in the past. He then scrolls through something, declares, 'You paid for it.' And tosses the tablet in my face with the image of two posts and the word "reprocessing fee". Why? Those words meant nothing and since I hadn't bought posts, I had no more clarity than I had before he put it in my face. I told him I'd been coming for years and the service had always been excellent. Today, it felt dismissive--like because I wasn't spending a ton, I wasn't worth much attention. He temporarily softened his tone, said he'd clean the earrings, and then launched into a weird flex about the machine costing $10,000 and how he's "not breaking it for anybody." What? Why would my jewelry break your machine? I acknowledged that his tone had changed but that his earlier demeanor was off-putting. He quickly pivoted back to defensive: "Well, it's frustrating when someone says they haven't paid for something and you know they did." We've never met. I genuinely didn't know there was a separate charge--because no one had ever told me. I tried to say, "As the owner of the business--" and he cut me off: "No, the customer is not always right." At that point, I was done. What I was going to say was this: as the owner, you and your team have access to internal systems and records customers don't. Just because you can pull up a list of past charges doesn't mean the customer ever understood those charges, especially when they weren't clearly communicated at the time. In the end, I got what I paid for three weeks earlier--the reinstall of an earring post after surgery. Nothing more. Certainly not the customer care I had come to expect. In the future, I'll go back to Fundamental Piercing on the North Side. Cuba and the team there have always treated me with warmth, clarity, and respect--three things Luxe has lost. I've spent a lot of money at Luxe Piercing & Fine Jewelry in the past, but after my most recent visit I will not be returning. I went in with my 2-year-old son and tried to make the trip as quick and easy as possible. After waiting 20 minutes just to be acknowledged, I finally picked out an amethyst nose stud (over $120) and was careful not to touch it--simply pointed to the one I wanted. The staff took it straight back to put a backing on, I paid, and then waited another 10 minutes while the piercer, the owner, and the salesperson openly gossiped and spoke very negatively about another employee. Once I left and got my son settled in the car, I realized the jewelry actually had a spike on it--something that wasn't visible from how it was displayed in the case. I immediately took a photo and messaged the shop, explaining the situation and requesting an exchange. They quickly refused, even after I clarified that I hadn't touched or removed the jewelry from the bag and contacted them only minutes after leaving. Between the unprofessional behavior, the excessive wait times, and the lack of customer care, this was extremely disappointing--especially from a business I've supported before. I did so much research on daith piercings and am beyond glad I did. I have only ever had my lobes and helix pierced by Claire's. Nothing against Claire's but I did not want to even ask if they could do daith piercings. This particular piercing seemed like it required a little more skill. I was right! Luxe has 5 stars for a reason. I had a 5 star, excellent, superb experience! I emailed a few weeks prior to my appointment because I knew what kind of jewelry I'd want and wanted to make sure it was available at my appointment. The Luxe website leaves much to be desired in terms of what jewelry is offered. Whomever I was emailing was greatly helpful and provided pictures of jewelry as well as pricing. They even held the jewelry for me until my future appointment time! My piercer was Nia. Like others have mentioned she is exceedingly nice and patient! Before we got started, Nia was very upfront and transparent about cost to ensure I wasn't surprised at the end. I ended up getting the earring that was held for me, so I wasn't surprised about price at all. During the actual piercing, she let me know what she was doing every step of the way, which I thoroughly appreciated. The pain was real. Nia described the feeling as "gross" and I can't think of a better word honestly. However, it only hurt for about an hour afterward. I didn't even have to take ibuprofen or anything. I had no bleeding except for the time of the piercing. It doesn't feel gross anymore, but am thinking it might feel gross if I were to wiggle it... Which I'm not going to do because aftercare instructions say not to touch it!! :) After 4 full days, it only itches. No pain at all. I am just running water over it in the shower and blow drying it dry, as instructed. I have to believe that I'm having a favorable healing process because of Nia's expertise and my own hygiene standards. I'm very happy with it. Reasons why I will forever be loyal to Nia: 1) She was referred to me by a trusted friend 2) Her consultation was filled with calmness, creativity, and a comforting patience that allowed me the space to change my mind, more than several times, on what I ultimately ended up choosing. Originally, I wanted a snug, but didn't have the anatomy for it, and because she was so calm and equally excited on finding the right fit, it made the experience so rich and memorable 3) The actual piercing part started with marking the spots with a marker to make sure they were exactly where I wanted them and when it came time to go for it, she explained every step she was gonna take and what to expect and repeated them as she was carrying them out. Post piercings, one of them seem a little irritated, so I reached out to her since she made it very welcoming to do so should anything arise. We first discussed what I was looking for (a simple nostril piercing), and got to work both filling out ppwk and choosing my jewelry. I did make an appt. The jewelry here is like nothing I've seen before, such good quality pieces that I even considered buying a pair for my ears but depending on what you want the prices per piece can be a bit high. I do believe they are worth it. You do get what you pay for, all solid stuff here. They are viewable on their site. We went ahead and got started. Nia was incredibly thorough and informative throughout the whole process. We were done in about 20 minutes, that included a conversation about where to place the piece so that it didn't interfere with facial expressions, sanitizing, prep and a little pinch and we were done. My 7 year old has been asking about getting her ears pierced for a while now. I casually asked about it at a chain store in the mall. When I saw where the location of the piercing was placed on my daughter I changed my mind. I thought the piercing would be too low on her ear lobe. I also knew of a place in Oak Park on Marion street that I wanted to visit. I noticed that they had good reviews for their piercing service. When I called they told me that Jeff had moved to his own location on Madison street. I decided to take my daughter to Luxe. I'm glad I did. I was super nervous and so was my daughter. We met Jeff and chose the earrings. I did not tell her that the piercing would be done with a needle only. I kept that to myself. She did cry when it was happening but once it was over she was so happy. Jeff was very thorough and the shop is very clean. I'm glad I went to Luxe instead of the chain store. Jeff Clark is the BEST. My review of his service is still up on the site of his old place of business but why not tell you how great it is that he opened his own place and show you some photos of the piercings he did for me? They healed beautifully. He was friendly, and his professionalism was perfection. He washed his hands and wore gloves. Autoclaved and used new wherever appropriate and most importantly explained what he was doing every step of the way. Obviously you're going to feel the needle, but I was presently surprised at how his expertise, at least for me, yielded a low pain experience. My piercings with him are always friendly, professional, and super clean. It makes me want to get more! He gave me outstanding and SIMPLE care instructions and assured me that I could and should check in with him if anything felt like it wasn't healing well. I had a coworker try a daith piercing and hers was done with a much thicker earring and she was given different care instructions than Jeff gave me. She took hers out after a few days. Mine is feeling GREAT almost 2 years in. My second piercing that he did was a simple double pierce, but the placement was tricky, due to spacing on my childhood piercing. NOTE: I have been going to reputable piercers and been buying reputable jewelry for years. I really liked this shop because I recently moved to area and they are literally a 5 minute drive from my place. I discovered them because I wanted my stud to be changed out to a hoop which was done by Momo. Super sweet guy! But this is about my flat helix piercing. I've had my flat piercing for almost a year, it has already been downsized but it started to act up in Feb. So I had a long post put back in to give it space for swelling by a different shop. I noticed that my helix had developed a crust around it that I couldn't get out by cleaning so I went back to Momo to have it taken out. He took out and told me to come back in two weeks to downsize to a shorter post. My appointment was yesterday. I wanted to change my current helix jewelry out to another one and the shop wouldn't do it. They had a "No outside jewelry policy" which is the first time I have heard about this.They will ONLY insert jewelry that you have to PURCHASE FROM THEM. Momo had told me that it's because when they put jewelry through the sterilizer - the jewelry would fall apart. I had asked if it was cheap jewelry and he said yes it was, but if my jewelry was from a reputable brand then they could insert it. I explained to him that it was from Body Gems. He went to go ask the girls at the front and still they refused to put the jewelry in because of liability issues. They wouldn't even look at the jewelry either! They have Body Gems jewelry in their shop. If they aren't making a profit off of you - they won't take outside jewelry even if it's the same brands they sell in their shop. Some piercings are very difficult to change out at home, so you go these shops to help you with that. What if they don't remember you purchasing jewelry from them and you come back wanting to change jewelry but their policy permits that? This is a niche market - the jewelry costs hundreds if not thousands of dollars. Being a collector of fine piercing jewelry, I have collected from other places since each shop carries different jewelry . The rule just causes more damage than good. I have been to 4 other REPUTABLE shops that have had no problem inserting outside jewelry. I will be taking my business somewhere else unfortunately. read more

Luxe checks all the boxes plus more -- their jewelry is *stunning.* Lots of options. So delicate. So right now. 3) I felt incredibly safe with my private appointment for my conch piercing. Mia was so precise, warm, and considerate. She and Jeffrey were also fantastic with my 8-year-old when piercing her lobes. TLDR: Yes, you will be there a touch longer and spend more, but the experience and safety are well beyond that of a Claire's or a tattoo shop. TL;DR: take the drive. Worth every penny, professional, clean, and wonderful service. The long version: Wow. What a great experience! We finally broke down and decided to let our youngest get her ears pierced because we were tired of hearing how everyone else had theirs done. We were going to go where we got our oldest's ears pierced right before Covid, but it turns out that they don't do kids anymore (because of parents' bad behavior mostly); they recommended a little shop in Forest Park. FOREST PARK? From Evanston, that's a looooong drive. OK, not that long, so my wife booked the appointment as a surprise. We made the trek and got there at noon. It's a lovely shopfront and it's clean and welcoming. Elaine helped my daughter pick her earrings, answered any questions beforehand, and then we all went back to the spotless room for the piercing. Jeffrey explained everything he was doing and was very careful to make sure he had my daughter's consent before touching her with anything. The care and precision that he took to make sure that the piercing site was sterile and absolutely symmetrical was fantastic. Elaine came back in and she and Jeffrey each took an ear; they did it at the same time and it was absolutely painless for my little. A few folks mentioned in other reviews that it was expensive. I'd say that it's expensive when compared to a trip to Claire's, but if you want it done right and to have a perfect experience, I think this is well within any comparable professional piercing salon. This could not have been a better experience! Making the appointment was quick and easy. I needed to reschedule due to a conflict prior to our initial appointment, and it was very simple. Jeff has created a warm, welcoming, modestly and tastefully decorated, CLEAN shop. I am so glad to have met him! He is DELIGHTFUL! My lobe piercings had been closed for quite some time. He explained my options. Im sure my case was nothing complicated, but I was still grateful for the time he took with me. I was shown proof that my tools and jewelry had undergone a successful ride in the autoclave, which he did immediately before my piercing. He talked me through the entire experience (which I need when Im nervous). He has a calming and happy presence. I saw him take time with several people, including parents with kids of varying ages. I scheduled an appointment with Jeffrey through the app. It was quick and easy, it required a $20 deposit to secure the appointment. The shop was extremely clean and very covid friendly. Jeffrey walked me through the the jewelry options and maintained professionalism, had gloves, and his surgical mask. After selecting jewelry, everything was sanitized and ready to go. I appreciated how many different pairs of gloves and disinfecting precautions he took. He walked me through the whole piercing and kept everything super personable. Jeff (store owner) is incredible. Jeff has created a superbly clean and welcoming environment that makes you feel comfortable while you get your piercing(s). Jeff takes the time to explain everything to you and answer all of your questions. You don't need to worry about getting rushed out of the door like some other piercing places. He took his time and made them feel very relaxed and comfortable. The atmosphere is also very calm and relaxing. I was impressed how clean everything was and how everything was sterilized. I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to get a piercing done. You may pay a little bit more than you would than getting it done at a mall by some questionably trained teenager or young adult and using a gun that has probably not been sterilized; but by going to Luxe you are being pierced by a professional who knows exactly what they are doing and getting the job done right!
