I had a bad first experience years ago when Funguys opened. (There was no A/C and no one never came out to serve my friend and I at the bar.) But, after a few more recent visits, they've redeemed themselves. This place has a very chill vibe. It's pretty low frills on decor (there's a big TV in the bar area), 8 or so tables in a small area off the bar, and a few picnic tables outside. If you're a smoothie beer lover, this should be on your list of stops. Their smoothiesicle series is always good, and I really enjoy their fruited cheesecake beers. They also make a good number of IPAs if those are your thing. The to go cooler is always hoppin' with lots of people grabbing beer and heading out. DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS PLACE. I'm way overdue on this review...but that's just it right there. This place lives rent free in my head so much that a few weeks later, I can still reminisce on the good brews!! Hands down they have the best smoothie sours that I have had to date. Pricey for a 4 pack but well worth it!!! The property itself is very small and you wouldn't expect anything too lavish walking in but that's kind of the appeal of Fun Guys. They don't over-commercialize themselves and low key I hope they always stay that way. This is 1000% a hidden gem in NC for beer lovers- particularly sour lovers like meeeee. read more

Funguys Brewing should be called fun size Brewing.  It is a small size with inside and outside seating. It is also DOG FRIENDLY! They don't have food, but they are within walking distance of four or five places that have food, including a food truck. We were only here long enough to taste some beers.  I liked them. I wish I had found this place last time I was here in Raleigh.  The beer here is actually better than many of the places I visited early last year.  And the IPAs here are magical. If you like hazy IPAs there be doubles and triples here. Triples are the unicorn of IPAs. They are hard to find and even harder to find brewed well. Funguys gets the TIPA (triple Indian plae ale) right. The IPAs here are as good as Crank Arm Brewing Company or Buriel Beer - the exhibit, which I think make some of the best hazy IPAs in Raleigh, North Carolina. The BEERS: Undercover Agent hazy IPA 6.8% ABV...  really delicious and juicy Haze Whisperer hazy DIPA 8% ABV... Wow citrusy, juicy, wonderful Duplication Munich style Dunkel 5.4% ABV... malty, slightly coffee Gaudy Vernacular hazy TIPA 9.5%... this is awesomely good, drinkable, crushable Lingerer hazy IPA 6%... dry and delicious, I want to say orange zest? Cult Classic Czech Pilsner 4.8% was just okay. Was not as smooth as some of the better Czech Pilsners I have tasted. But also, a good Czech Pilsner needs a good slow pour and since thus was only a taste, I might be too critical Next time I visit Raleigh I will try to spend more time here. Stopped by on a bike ride on the Crabtree Creek Trail. Not far from it. Five for the beers. Had the Dunkel and the Czech Pilsner. Super casual, local good beer place. Definitely not fancy and decorated on a budget, but that is the appeal. Not a commercial cookie cutter-we-have-a-dozen-places-just-like-it kind of place- a real local place with just good beer and great service. Did I mention the solid mugs? This ain't no 'plastic cup because we are too cheap/ don't trust the drunks with glass' kind of place. You get a real beer glass/ mug. It is small and on a nice day you won't get a spot outside. But if you want to go to a mega brewery go there. This place Is convenient but at the end of a bad road. One I will take again! read more

I hope this place makes it. The location is a little strange, tucked away on an industrial side street parallel to Wake Forest Road near Costco. Wow, I can't believe that this place is a breweries. But it is. So gif you do a left turn on an abandoned neighborhood (not exactly) it is the right spot. They are famous for their sour ale n slushy. I came specifically for their sour beers, and they did not disappoint! My friends and I tried all the sours available on draft, and they were all really unique and delicious. They also have a variety of IPAs, which I saw other people ordering - but I was there for the sours and only tried the sours. My favorites were "there she Gose" a muscadine grape gose, and the tropical coconut cheesecake, a sour with lactose coconut and guava. I would describe Funguys as a no-frills hidden gem, with a wide selection and helpful bartender! I will definitely be coming back and think this is a brewery making exciting beers! read more

**Beware of Google maps, it can make this spot tricky to find. When you are on Wake Forest Road turn onto Hodges Street then a right onto Paula Street.** So why the name Funguys Brewing? Yeast is what makes a beer and is a fungi hence the name funguys [plus they are fun guys]. There are currently four beers on tap so I tried a flight which consisted of the Peace Dude, Campfire Session Stout, Nothing New and New Venture. If these selections do not peak your interest, they have four guest taps currently. My personal favorite was the New Venture, a NE IPA. This brewery will be brewing up a variety of beers in the near future. The owners are chill plus they are hop heads, just like me. I can't wait to see what they are brewing up next. I really like their smoothies. There's not much greenery in their outdoor seating area so I would give it a 4 in terms of kid friendly - there is outdoor seating. That said I get a craving for their delicious Boisenberry smoothie beer, reminds me of a peanut butter jelly time by Catawba except much thicker. It really is a dinner in itself. Delicious. What an awesome little brewery. They have an extensive selection of hazy IPAs. As a huge fan of IPAs, this immediately made me like the place. They also have alcoholic smoothies, which are surprisingly delicious. The place is pet friendly, allowing dogs indoors and outside (provided they're well behaved, of course. The owner (or co-owner) is an extremely personable lady who makes you feel welcome the second you walk through the doors. There's a 3 or 4 picnic table area, surrounded by a wooden wall/planter with a variety of colorful flowers atop it. It gives the patio/picnic table area an atmosphere of peace and privacy. My only complaint is that their canned beers are outrageously priced (similar to Burial's cans of beer) but unfortunately that's to be expected with any small brewery. That aside, this is in my top three favorite breweries in Raleigh. Absolutely recommend anyone who enjoys beer give this place a try. I doubt you'll be disappointed. read more

Be careful with the Texas Fold Em Farmhouse, 9.7% ABV, and is as smooth as the Pamlico River, a great spin on a Belgian classic. This is some of the best beer I have had in Raleigh. I HATE IPAs but this place has delicious ones! Seriously the only IPAs I have ever found that I like. And not just 1 or 2. I really like the beers here! Everything I've tried has a nice clean finish. Drinking Cupz which is a peanut butter stout that has a nice peanut butter finish. This is a small brewery with friendly owners. The owner loves to talk beer, and rightfully so he is very knowledgeable. I have been there a few times, and never been disappointed. We found about about this great new brewery a couple of weeks ago, came, loved it, and were excited to come back. They have a great selection of their brews on draft and in cans.
