A very fun time! I saw Clue this past weekend and thought it was highly entertaining and the actors did an excellent job with improv. I was a bit surprised how many young kids there were given the inappropriate nature of improv, so I probably wouldn't recommend bringing kids. This was a pretty cool venue... the theater had a nice vibe, sorta "messy" with exposed wires and interesting lighting above, but it worked for the event we attended (Martini Tonight Comedy Show), a simple set on stage with just a bit of props, and seats were typical fold down style with cup holders. The concessions stand/bar only served very basic cocktails like gin and tonic, and not even made very well, the gin brand not very good (the cheap stuff). The canned wine was better, an oregon pinot noir (underwood). For theater candy, they only offered plain m&m's and red vines, so options for drinks and snacks were extremely limited here. The coolest part about this place was the clown art, with endless creative pieces like the clown last supper. A cute and cozy lounge with seating and a fake fireplace provided a nice little area to hangout before the show. Some outdoor seating available as well. We enjoyed the comedy event, which included some great stand-up acts, the feeling of being in the live audience for a talk show with a host that stayed in character and was actually quite funny, and great music and sound effects too by the house band. Note, the show started 20 minutes after the listed start time and ended about 10 minutes later than advertised online. read more

If you're looking for Portland Center Stage, you're in the wrong place. This unique place is so Portland, it's what Portland is all about, IMO. It feels underground and has vibe for days, it's plainly, beautifully perfect. If you have a chance to see a play or any event at this place, do it and bring your friends. It's smaller than most playhouses in Portland, but that plays into the whole vibe of this place. Small bar, yes and prices are very fair. We purchased VIP tickets, which got us assigned seats and a super cool t-shirt. I totally recommend doing this, it's worth it. I was reluctant to review this place as I didn't want to break the local code of keeping it on the DL. With lots of bars and restaurants within 1-2 blocks away, easy to make a whole night out and not driving all over the place to do so. All & All ; VIP package is highly recommended, Bartender rocks. Five years later and I should give this an update. This is especially true since they just revamped their space which was a bit challenging before. I have to say that they really maximize the space but the updated seating is way better since some of the seats previously could be a bit trying to eat you. The VIP booths are pretty great looking but if you are ADA, like me, drop them an email and they want to help you out. I always try to pregame when I go to anything since most places genuinely want to make it easier for all of us involved. I got an email from one of the very sweet cast (I was trying not to fan girl since she's so crazy talented). I was grateful we caught a lighter attended show because I was able to linger and take in the clown room. I never had a thing with clowns for any reason - do not hate and do not love...just, huh, ok clowns... though, I have to do a quick 'Fuck you Poltergeist' because seriously... NOPE. One of the wicked talented actors was so sweet and showing off the clown paintings that were created by the Funhouse owner. Seriously explore - one is a music box! But it really is the coolest sitting room but I am used to there being a line. But whenever I have gone we end up chatting with other strangers in line. You really just are in a good mood getting here and grabbing snacks knowing you are in for a good time. We went, this time for the Comedy of Terrors - so fun! They always have something going on and just do their own thing. I am very much about a new experience and the one exception I make is this spot. I try to see Die Hard the Musical every year because OMFG... It is magical and it IS a Christmas movie. read more

When our original plan fell through, my daughter looked for something else to do on a late Saturday night. Somehow, Funhouse came up to see a random comic. And for $7 per person, we were all in. Almost. Funhouse looks like it used to be a house at one time and designed to be this quirky, red-light event space. Yes, it looks outdated. Even without advanced tickets and coming when the show had already started, the ticket hostess was super sweet and checked to see if there were 3 empty seats. Well...only 2 were available. The night was still young, we collected our thoughts to find plan B. I'm not sure if we missed the best comic- but we had our own personal comedy show outside while we sat on picnic benches under the stars and watched Sebastian Maniscalco's 'Is It Me?' show on YouTube. Man....was that the best?!?!? This may not have been Portland's GOAT performing the Saturday night we came here- but next time we're back in town, we'll plan accordingly. read more

We came here for one of their final performances of their "Pulp Fiction" parody. We were a little too early and it started to rain on us but one of the performers let us into the waiting area early to get us out of the rain. I was disappointed that the clown room wasn't accessible. It looked like it was being used as a storage room (this was back in March) but the bar/lounge area had plenty to look at on its own. The performance itself was absolutely amazing! The actors and actresses were on point, interactive with the crowd and hilarious! They managed to stay true to the movie while still putting their own spin on it. The one aspect of this I can say wasn't great was the food. It was pretty basic, not so great food but hey, you're here for the performance. Next time, we'll simply eat before coming. Problem solved. Funhouse is a MUST if you're in Portland. We will definitely come back for another show the next time we're there. read more

We went to see Die Hard the Musical. As someone that's not a huge fan of musicals (though I do like some) and someone that likes but does not love the original film, I highly recommend this. The amount of singing is relatively small percentage wise, but just enough in my opinion. Die Hard was huge in the 80's, fizzled out in popularity and then in the mid to late 2000's re-emerged as a classic and was really "cool" to watch as a Christmas movie, and although better than most Christmas movies, and even though I've watched it at least half a dozen times, it just was never as awesome to me as it was to others. Don't get me wrong, as far as action movies go it's essential, and worth watching at least a couple of times (if not three times), but once I hit that fourth time I felt it started losing its magic. All that being said, this musical was thoroughly entertaining, and made by folks that truly loved the movie, while also doing a perfect job of making fun of even the smallest nuances. Often musicalizing a film like this, while good in theory, is often not executed well, this however I would consider an exception. It felt like the cast was able to improvise and be creative and it showed in how much fun they seemed to be having. The cast even at its silliest or most serious always committed fully to the role. My favorite part was the girl that played Hans Gruber with an intentionally bad German accent that generated laughter with almost every sentence she spoke. I would say one of the funniest performances I've ever seen on stage. The actor playing Bruce Willis was over the top with his impersonations of Bruce but never to the point of it not being funny. "Yippy-Ky -Yay..." being the most famous quote, they not only did a song about him coming up with a catch phrase, but also a song right after finding the catchphrase, where the chorus is them yelling "Yippy-Ky-Yay Mother..." If you get tickets get them online ahead of time, in case it sells out. It is expensive but in my opinion worth it, much more entertaining than most of the theatre I've seen in Portland. Please support small theatres like these, they worked really hard on this and created something that is far more unique than most performances you'll find around here. My only beef is that it could've been perfect with a two hour length instead of three hours, but even still it's worth a watch. Lots of laughs. I give it 8.5 stars out of 10. read more

Die Hard gave us historial backgrounds of the movie's vicous villians. Get your tickets as soon as they go on sale! The tables are fun when you have a group of friends. The first Sunday of the month is the Rusty Trombone Senior Center Bingo. For $5 you play 6 rounds of bingo with the most hillarious group of "seniors". Peg and the Captain are my favorite hosts. G-unit! Beers are cheap and service at the bar is quick and polite. Im so hooked on this place! A forever customer. read more

We went to the opening of Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Musical. I am happy places like Funhouse Lounge and The Siren exist as I very much enjoy the slightly cheesy/low budget nature of turning these movies into fun stage performances. I haven't been to the Funhouse since they did Weekend at Bernie's (which was awesome). The Funhouse did Buffy and it was great. The music wasn't written for the play but they chose songs that fit each scene and then changes some of the words as well. The best part, for me, was the window scene. It was the perfect song choice, the lyric changes were spot on and the the acting was great! If you are looking for a fun night out without paying top dollar for Broadway, this is the ticket! The Siren just put on Roadhouse: The Play and they are doing Nightmare on Elm Street in October. Both shows I have seen many, many times and highly recommend. Get out there and show these small, hilarious theaters some love! The only let down is their website mentions food but all they had was popcorn. I am sure that is pandemic related but I wish they took that off the FAQ section of their website until it's able to come back. I wouldn't have been starving during the entire performance. Went to the wonderful Becky with the good jokes show hosted by Becky Braunstein. It. Was. Fabulous. My husband and I had so much fun! It's a good lil venue and they have such fun stuff on the schedule! The first bartender we got was a lil gruff and rude but then the second was awesome and really nice. Strong cheap drinks. What you need for a comedy show. Beware the clowns tho. Like. If you are scared of clowns talk yourself up before you go in. Cause all the clown art is good. But it's still terrifying. The Funhouse Lounge is something that needs to exist in any city you live in. It puts on shows that would never see the light of day, and that's amazing. All of the negative reviews on here are because the show was bad, but that's not the Lounge's fault. Some will be amazing, and some will suck, such is the way of live shows. While, yes, the food and drinks are a little questionable at times, that isn't even why you should show up to the Funhouse Lounge. Find a show you like, get a beer or some well-whiskey, maybe a slice of pizza, and enjoy! read more

I will never forget my night at Funhouse Lounge. We found tickets online for the strip comedy show... it was both extremely awkward and hilarious as hell! About half of the comedians ended up getting but naked and at one point there was pie all over the stage... such an interesting night. Tickets ahead of time online for the show we saw were around $9 or $12 at the door. The venue itself had a "fun" playful feel to it. They have a room by the bathroom which is covered from head to toe in clown paintings (you'll either love that room or hate it). I got a cider and it was $5. They have a full bar and the bar tenders are very friendly. Free street parking. read more

I visited the Funhouse Lounge to see the Die Hard musical parody. The Funhouse lounge setting is basically a dark dive bar with cheap drinks and a very small theatre in the back of the bar. The Die Hard musical was AMAZING. It was hilarious; the actor's overacting of John McClain was hysterical, the original songs were great and the actress playing Hans Gruber was exceptionally funny and had a pretty great Alan Rickman impression for the accent and cadence. It was an impressive 3 hour long show and I was hooked the entire time. In short, you should 100% see it! Make sure to bring cash to tip the cast! read more

This I have to say was definitely one of the more wierd places I have been in. It had that sort of off the road funhouse feeling like if you went in and took the ride you might not make it back out kind of deal. It was a fantastic day to be out. It looks like they let you smoke outside, I saw ashtrays on the table.. yuck! I haven't seen that since New Orleans. I ordered a salad and DH had a sandwich of some sort. We were in there on a Sunday for the Bruch, we had the groupon. The food selection was not good and there wasn't much we could really eat. I ate only maybe one or two bites of the salad and was done. I guess I should add that the menu didn't have a lot of healthy options which I think is something you must have if you are going to stay afloat in this sea of little dive places. I'm sure the entertainment here is interesting but it was just opening when we got there, so alas no entertainment. read more

I've been here a few times, Reefer Madness 'amazing', Scooby Doo 'very fun', waiting for Die Hard. First off this place is a dive plain and simple. The food is suspect, the drinks are questionable the seating spartan. What you get is often a super entertaining show by local performers who put there heart and soul into the show. I can't speak to the strip stand up etc. but, the special show have been super fun for a very reasonable $10-$20 per ticket. Parking can be an issue so arrive early. read more

So, this place is raunch. In a good way! The spin-off of Wicked (based on Jafar from Aladdin) was well done and hilarious. Seating was sparse, but it was on us for rolling it too early to the start time. The actors looked like they were having fun and seriously, the actor who played Aladdin came off so immensely sleazy I was convinced that he was a man-hoe, fo show. It's random .... no one knowing where they are and the host refuses to tell you, 5-6 people left before me. see at FunHouse Lounge hope you don't have a dinner date or a bus to catch or to eat after work etc , you won't be going up until a healthy dose of the tight circle goes up before you. You have to work and get in a quick spot signing up early or first, be prepared to be 16th. Not sure what's more aggravating, signing up 2nd and going up after an hour or being talked to and treated like an idiot for not absorbing how it could be random , you know how someone says the earth is round and it's so easy to absorb and understand? This is not that, avoid the show runner who said she was fired as a stripper... Imagine how her comedy went... Probably the First assumption is the right one, horrendous. read more

Literally one of my favorite venues in town! I first discovered Funhouse Lounge through Facebook Events about a year ago and have been to at least 8 different shows there. All of the comedy shows have been HILARIOUS. Like snort-laugh, drink through nose, can't breath type funny. You can tell that the company puts a lot of effort into their longer, prepared shows like their musical rendition of Pulp Fiction and the Hocus Pocus themed burlesque show they did about a year ago. Their improv shows like Domprov and Becky with the Good Jokes are great as well. I will most definitely continue to count on Funhouse Lounge for a good time and can't wait to see the shows they will offer in the future! read more

Came on a slow Wednesday night for the "only the baddest" comics. Didn't expect much since I've never been to a comedy show before but ended up in a super interesting bar kinda spot with a stage. Came around 10:30pm and saw 4 sets and it ended around 11:30-midnight. Last set with Chris (wish I caught his last name) was our favorite. He is faaaaaabulous and hilarious. Not afraid to put you on blast with personal questions and pressure the crowd with tequila shots is my kind of comedian haha. Drinks were cheap. $5 for my vodka cranberry and $5 for my bf's ipa. They had some small eats available also. The Funhouse has really made some awesome improvements! I was there last night as an actor reading a new play in the Outwright Festival and was amazed to see how they've updated the venue. Changed the entry, added more seating, opened up some of the rooms... It's really become a very welcoming and fun place to see a performance, have a drink, visit with friends. My own criticisms... Parking - nothing they can do about it, but the neighborhood has really developed around them, which is great, creating more difficulty finding parking. No olives? I ordered a dirty martini and was told they have no olives to make it... bummer! Slow payment processing. I ended up with 2 drinks and she had to hunt for the brandy for my brandy coke, and then the cash register seemed to take for ever to process the payment. I apologized to the line behind me for apparently ordering something so complicated. read more

This place is kinda strange. Kinda very strange, but its also pretty dope. The bar isn't anything incredible, the food isn't anything to pay money for, but the shows they put on there are all really great. If they had coolers where I could just pick a beer, sit back and watch one of the improv shows, I'd be a happy man. You've got to be a silly person to like this place. I am that kind of person. If you're coming here for ANY other reason than the entertainment, you will be disappointed. I'm not kidding. The parking sucks too. I forgot about that. Just come in, see a cheap and funny show and then go somewhere else afterwards. There are plenty of places in the neighborhood that are all really great, so it's no big deal.
