The burger was good and so big that I could barely take a bite. It was definitely at least a 2 napkin burger. The French fries were crispy and hot. I hadn't realized that it was a double patty burger when I placed my order. We will definitely need to share 1 meal on our next visit. This was a whole lot of food for lunch! My husband and I decided to try Fresh Egg Grill for brunch. We were in the area on a lovely Saturday in early October. We enjoyed no fuss quality food and terrific service. This spot delivers exactly what it promises, making it a reliable choice for the area. To start, the coffee was great--hot, fresh, and strong. For my main dish, I opted for a Western omelette. It was perfectly fine, a solid choice, if not spectacular. My husband had the egg, bacon, cheese breakfast sandwich and thoroughly enjoyed it. The only reason I'm docking a star is for the side of corn muffins I ordered. They were, unfortunately, a complete letdown. They were hard, dry, and truly tasted like small stones. Even piling on the soft, fresh butter couldn't save them. However, the excellent service and the positive experience with the main dishes and coffee easily outweigh one bad side item. We have been coming here for a few years now, and food and service is pretty consistent. It is a cute, cozy place with very friendly staff. It is casual and comfortable, with a great menu. We were heading out for the day on a cool October Sunday, and decided to visit for brunch. We had the special of fried apple pancakes with a side of bacon, and the veggie omelette with sourdough toast and a side of fruit. Everything was delicious. My only complaint was my fruit side in that the grapes had seeds in them. I didn't expect that when biting down, but yes, seeds. Seedless is typically what I would expect in a fruit bowl, but was just surprised. Overall, great visit and made a nice start to a Sunday. read more

I want to preface this with the fact that I do not like writing reviews on restaurants. But this place has me heated in all the wrong places. This place was a 30/70. 30 percent ok and 70 percent bad. Let's break it down. Started with the "seared tuna". Not sure if the server just didn't understand but I got a different fish. Not seared. Blacked grouper I'm pretty sure. When I tried to tell the server, they said that was the tuna. I couldn't tell if it was ignorance or just nativity. I'm going to go with the latter and say maybe she just didn't know but whatever. The fish that I did get was pressing the "use by date". Fishy as all get out. Like between the legs on a hot summer day kinda fishy. My husband picked up a piece with his fingers and needless to say it still smells like a cleaning station at the dock after washing it a couple times. Which leads me to the beef tips. Sliced tenderloin in a retirement home gravy. Like doused in it. The beef, although tender, had a gamey tase which leads me to think it was starting to spoil or wasn't held correctly. Maybe these are items that they don't sell very often, but come on! Now we can talk about the portion size. I understand that in this economy, you want to get the most bang for your buck. But I'd take quality over quantity all day. The Cajun pasta must have had enough pasta for three grown adults to enjoy. If you can enjoy it. It also had a dollop of sour cream the size of my face on it. Wait...sour cream on top of an already creamy pasta? It's like they are trying to give you cardiac arrest. Did it taste good? I guess but my stomach and toilet are telling me it wasn't worth it. So let's get to the good. Chicken fingers. And....thats about it. But are we really going to redeem everything that I stated above because of chicken tenders? I could have walked over to Publix's and gotten the same (actually Publix tenders are bomb, but I digress). At the end of the day, was it edible? I think that in a highly unlikely scenario where I was battling dragons for three days and have had zero sustenance, yeah I would have enjoyed it. But I dropped a good amount to try this place out and I was dissatisfied to say the least. The service was decent. I will give them that. But it was such a young crew that may be their first service industry job. But I have a bad taste in my mouth...literally. In summation, if you prioritize quantity over quality, this place is for you. Or if you just don't care. We gave it a shot and it was a swing and HARD miss for us. I was expecting a meal. Went here for brunch with friends, was not disappointed. It's definitely a cafe style restaurant, there's not a lot of space inside and the tables/seats are a bit crowded. That said, everything is priced very reasonably and staff is very friendly. The food was good, and the only thing that fell short was my eggs benedict, the yolk was fully cooked and not runny how it's supposed to be. Nice folks trying very hard. Went for breakfast, got the Baja omelette and a breakfast sandwich. Reasonably priced, food was decent but not great. Would rather have grilled vs deep fried potatoes, and omelette was one of those thin ones that gets the mix spread out over the flattop and then had some toppings in the middle. Prefer real eggs with toppings in the eggs. Clean, open space. Didn't hate it in any way, just wouldn't be in any hurry to return. read more

We were excited to try this place because of the reviews but honestly, wasn't worth the $$$/experience. In the beginning when we lived in Cornelius, this was the original location for Fresh Chef Restaurant which has since grown into a respectful medium sized chain with probably something like at least 10 locations if not more. As I pointed out, this was the original location, and they quickly outgrew it but still it thrived. Several years later, another larger space in the same strip mall opened up and because available so the owners jumped on it. That said, they kept the lease on the original location and reopened it as Fresh Egg Restaurant. In other words, a Breakfast Concept and it was done well since. It's only open from 7am to 4pm so you're looking at Breakfast/Brunch type menu. Great selection of Omelets and my favorite in the California Omelet with Bacon, Avocado and Cheddar Cheese. Wife is not normally a breakfast person but she likes the Crab Cake Benidict. Some breakfast potatoes and fantastic fresh brewed black coffee and the perfect was to start your day. read more

I pulled up to the door to let my mom out who uses a walker. Before I could get her out of the car, the manager I think came out and held the door open for us. She had even already selected the nearest table to the door and had our menus on the table. Come on! I knew then it was going to be a good experience and it was. I got some sort of shrimp and grits dish with this cream sauce which was delicious. I was told it's not always on the menu so I wanted to try it. Beware there is bacon in it. I typically don't eat pork but it was still delicious. Our service was great and both of our servers were very friendly. The kindness and care towards my Mom really stood out. We came in the afternoon on Saturday which was a great time. We were told in the morning there's usually a 45 minute wait. Food is so fresh. They serve breakfast and lunch and ended up closing while we were there. However we were not made to feel like we had to hurry our meal and get out. The bathroom is clean. Private single room. Large enough for my mom to take her walker in. Restaurant is not huge so if you appreciate quaint this is it. They also own Fresh Chef a few doors down. Both are worth checking out! read more

So this restaurant has been on our list for awhile, but weekends are pretty busy for brunch. So we came in on a Monday instead and there was no wait. I couldn't decide what to order, because so many items on the menu look so good, and the yelp page has such great reviews. I finally landed on the Baja omelette and ordered a side of hashbrowns with peppers and onions and a biscuit. It was really good, I loved the jalapeños in the omelette because I really enjoy spicy food. It was a lot of food and I was full by the time I ate half of it. I also tasted the Reuben and OMG it was so good we got one to go. The staff was super nice and friendly, and our server Tim gave us some great recommendations not only for menu items at the Fresh Egg, but also for other good restaurants in the Lake Norman area. It seemed like a lot of the customers were regulars, who knew what they wanted, ate their food and left. That may be us one day, because we'll definitely return. read more

Let me start by saying.....when I say Fresh Egg is NOT to be missed out on, I mean it with all of me!! I had a major craving for a Reuben sandwich and outside of Katz Delicatessen in New York, Fresh Egg is now my #2, but is working it's way up to #1 (and I've only been once...so far). LOL! Fresh Egg is located on Catawba Avenue in Cornelius, where there are a variety of stores, eateries, etc. The restaurant is located in the same shopping center as fresh market and a ton of other stores, so it's super convenient if you have to make a stop. Upon arrival, there were tables/seating outside and upon entering the restaurant, there were pub tables and regular tables inside. The decor of the restaurant made it feel very welcoming as a breakfast spot and it truly felt like a place "where everybody knows your name". Come to find out, that truly lived up to that notion! While eating at Fresh Egg, there were numerous patrons that came in and the staff knew their names! That's how you can tell that this place is super legit! #regulars As I mentioned, I had a craving for a Reuben sandwich. As soon as I asked about the Reuben sandwich, Tim (the best waiter) immediately told me that it was hands-down the best! And he was right! Their corned beef is made in house and it is super tender. After seeing another review on Yelp, which described the Reuben sandwich as melts in your mouth, that's exactly what it did! In fact, it was SO good that we ordered one to go! The staff at Fresh Egg was absolutely amazing! And not only were they friendly, accommodating and welcoming upon arrival, but they also have GREAT personalities and make you feel so welcome, even as a first timer. It really helps you to see why so many people come back again and again! Tim was our waiter and he gave excellent recommendations, not only for Fresh Egg, but also for other eateries and breweries in the Lake Norman area. With service and food that was experienced, I cannot wait for my second visit (which will likely be in less than a week)! LOL! We let the staff know that they'll likely know our names and get tired of seeing us show up! LOL! If you are in the Cornelius area, PLEASE stop by or grab a meal to go! It was good to see this spot remain not just a restaurant but a good restaurant when Fresh Chef Kitchen moved down the strip mall to a new location and then reopened here as Fresh Egg to incorporate breakfast and keep doing lunch with some menu differences from FCK. Ed. Note: Yikes, that acronym may be a little too close to... Well, another word. It took me quite a while to actually eat at Fresh Egg but now that I have it's nice to be able to assign them 5 stars. My wife had a salad with grilled salmon on top and I opted for the chopped steak which came with grilled onions, brown gravy and mashed potatoes. We both were happy with our meals. Oh, I also got a house salad with blue cheese dressing and it included super fresh greens/veg with good quality house made dressing. Service was good and friendly with multiple staff members taking care of diners to insure all was well. There is both indoor seating and a handful of tables outdoors on the sidewalk with a lovely view of the parking lot. Hey, it's a restaurant in a strip mall, what might you expect? The hubby, a friend, and I went to Fresh Egg Restaurant again today for a quick bite to eat. I had the egg platter with shrimp, scrambled eggs, gluten-free toast (includes cheese), and potatoes. My hubby had the egg platter with bacon, cheese grits, biscuit, and scrambled eggs with cheese. We all enjoyed our meal as usual. The gluten-free toast is delicious and so are the regular biscuits. Charlie, our waitress was excellent. She went above and beyond to make sure that we were seated promptly, and checked on us the perfect amount of times to ensure we enjoyed our meal.
