This is a nice restaurant situated in a little old single-story house that faces onto an inner courtyard in the old part of Huntersville. Breakfast, lunch, and a full bar pretty much can take care of whatever you're looking for. The main dining room is furnished with an eclectic assortment of mismatched chairs and tables, but it all seems to work. There is also a short bar for those eating alone. Kids are welcome, and they even have a box of toys for kids to amuse themselves with while others dine. Everyone in our group had some kind of breakfast offering ... and they offered some really creative choices. Service was on point, and everything came out together and hot. The only misstep was the lack of onion on one order. Coffee was hearty. They have a lot of outdoor seating in back facing the courtyard, and even some in the front yard: these outdoor arears effectively double the seating capacity of the restaurant, and both are totally dependent on the weather. We wouldn't hesitate to return. Recommended.

I tried eggs Benedict for the first time and it was good. The crab cake was very good. I did not like the grits though, I felt they were very thick. The outside area where we ate was beautiful and peaceful and shady. I would attend again. They also give you a crumb cake while you wait for your food, which is nice, although a bit off putting if you were going to order something sweet. I ended up changing my order because once I had the sweet crumb cake I didn't want something else sweet with my meal.

A must stop for both dinner and Southern breakfast enthusiasts…read more On my way home from Charlotte, I used Yelp to find me a classic diner to start my day off right. I choose the Crack of Dawn Diner in Concord. I am so glad I did. Crack of Dawn Diner is the real thing--a local Concord breakfast-and-lunch spot serving traditional Southern fare at reasonable prices. The menu caters to local tastes, the dining room is filled with regulars, and the atmosphere is comfortable rather than trendy. Parking is somewhat limited. The private lot surrounding the restaurant was fully used so I parked in the lot next door that had signs that said private property, but it looked like other patrons were parking there also so I took the chance. As it turns out, it was safe to park there. The entrance is very welcoming, as well as the staff. Amanda was my very efficient and nice waitress. There is great teamwork here, and Amanda was well supported by, I believe, the owner who ran my food out and talked a bit with me. The menu is fascinating. A distinctly North Carolina menu. Several things jumped out: * Breakfast special for $6.59 weekdays * Breakfast plates mostly under $12 * Grits included as a side option * Livermush available * City ham and country ham both offered * Pork chops available for breakfast I ordered the country-fried steak with white gravy (essentially chicken-fried steak), along with two sunny-side-up eggs, perfectly prepared grits, a large buttermilk biscuit, and a delicious diner coffee. The restaurant occupies a stand-alone building with a warm, "come on in and rest a spell" atmosphere. Inside, you'll find counter seating, an open kitchen, and tables throughout the dining room. I chose a seat by the window overlooking the parking area. This was a great breakfast, that was reasonably priced, in a great atmosphere, with very nice people. It stuck to both my mind and ribs all day long. After breakfast, I continued on to downtown Concord and spent some time exploring one of North Carolina's most charming revitalized downtown districts. The breakfast was the perfect start to the morning. Crack of Dawn Diner has earned a spot on my repeat list whenever my travels take me through the Charlotte-Concord area.

I also ordered a side of green beans, they were also straight from the can. I also received a sweet tea, which was good but also how do you mess that up? And the kicker, $18 for that... should have stayed home. I was really hopeful for this place but after trying it twice and it was just as bland, I unfortunately will not be back.

Fresh Egg - Where Diets Go to Die (Happily)…read more Our group of 4 1/2 (yes, somebody only ate half their plate because self-control showed up late ) walked into Fresh Egg thinking we were just grabbing breakfast... and walked out needing a nap and a moment of silence. Let's talk FOOD. That omelet? Fluffy like it trained at egg boot camp. Stuffed with sausage, ham, bacon, cheese basically the Avengers of breakfast. The home fries were crispy golden cubes of perfection. Not soggy. Not greasy. Just straight-up breakfast excellence. The ham slices were thick and flavorful like they meant business. That biscuit sandwich? Soft, buttery, and holding everything together like a breakfast superhero. And those cheesy grits? Creamy enough to make you emotional. Add melted cheddar and it's basically Southern comfort in a bowl. Portions? Generous. Flavor? Elite. Coffee? Flowing like we were at a caffeine convention. Now let's talk about Jonathan Jonathan delivered AMAZING service. Attentive without hovering, friendly without being forced, and on top of everything like a breakfast conductor running a delicious orchestra. Drinks stayed filled, food came out hot, and he made sure our whole crew felt taken care of. That kind of service turns a good meal into a great experience. The vibe inside? Busy, lively, happy breakfast energy everywhere. You can tell this is a spot people return to again and again. Final verdict: We came hungry. We left full. We left smiling. And yes... we'll be back. Fresh Egg you cracked the code.

This spot delivers exactly what it promises, making it a reliable choice for the area. To start, the coffee was great--hot, fresh, and strong. For my main dish, I opted for a Western omelette. It was perfectly fine, a solid choice, if not spectacular. My husband had the egg, bacon, cheese breakfast sandwich and thoroughly enjoyed it. The only reason I'm docking a star is for the side of corn muffins I ordered. They were, unfortunately, a complete letdown. They were hard, dry, and truly tasted like small stones. Even piling on the soft, fresh butter couldn't save them. However, the excellent service and the positive experience with the main dishes and coffee easily outweigh one bad side item. We had a good meal overall, and I would definitely go back again (and just skip the corn muffins next time!).

If you don't know what they are and want to know, look it up. Anyway - after picking up the rental car, first stop was for food here at Sunflower Family Restaurant. Parking here was tight. Place was hopping and the lot was full. I was lucky to pull in as someone was walking to their car so I was in. Just grateful for cameras on the car as the lot is tight and the spaces are narrow. At least it's free. Walked in and there's a line - all were waiting for take out so we were able to bypass them all and was seated right away. Good thing too as the place was just packed. Not an empty table when I went to the restroom or when we were leaving. Service was great. Team effort. Several different team members provided service. From taking your order to refills as follow up and general questions. They were busy but still took time to make sure everyone was taken care of. I say that not that I was in a big party - I meant other tables too. And the food was nice, simple and good. See pics. I wanted the meat gravy I hadn't had in a long time. Then some protein and grits of course. I cleared the plate but couldn't polish off the grits. I was so full on the sweetened ice team that there was no room for anything else. Even the tea hits different in the south, compared to California. Not saying this is the best food you'll ever have but it'll definitely be decent comfort food. Inexpensive and simple.

A diner, with their wide menu, works well. And our lunch today at Mattie's was excellent. We arrived right at the tail end of the lunch rush. A friendly hostess brought us to the last booth in the front section of the restaurant and then a waitress took our drink orders. Lots of shouting and "Order ready!" from the kitchen while we looked over the menu and then placed our orders. About ten minutes later, a plate of French Toast with vegan sausage on the side for Mrs. K. Light, fluffy, delicious. The sausage was great! For me, Mattie's Mom's Meatloaf. A massive thick slice of meatloaf topped with melted cheese, grilled onions and spicy marinara. My two sides, a creamy cole slaw and green beans with bacon were excellent. We both enjoyed our meals. Neither of us could finish the huge plates! Five stars, will definitely return. [Review 649 of 2025 - 4136 in North Carolina - 24210 overall]

BFF wanted to go here because he saw vegan omelette via social media…read more Well, he described it as a Jersey diner and they had nonVegan items. Ok. Sunday lunch. Friend got on the list. But the Bestie that wanted to have this met me in the parking lot scared there would be cross contamination and wanted to go elsewhere. He's been a dedicated vegan since 2008 or 2010. Either way, this ain't for play nor show. He's principled. The other vegan is really pescatarian and could careless. I have severe allergies and definitely care if there's cross contamination. Young lady seating is asked about how the cooktop works for vegan items: 1) is there a separate cooktop? 2) are new utensils used? They did a good job answering and owning what they didn't know but sought someone to answer the questions. Young lady showed us the place where we'll sit and she would go get answers and be right back. She never came back. Alas, the server showed up and he didn't know either nor did anyone ask him or inform him. I had to clean the table and seats were more upsetting to me. The busboy popped nearby and I asked for his spray bottle and he apologized saying he'd clean. H wiped everything but dried nothing. Server returned without answers but someone got another guy to explain their process. He was helpful. I was content. I can say pics on Yelp leave much to be desired but I got the chicken fried chicken + mashed potatoes and sweet potato waffle fries. The vegans got their food first and we got an explanation. I didn't care. Bring it as it's ready. I understand. Plus y'all know vegan cheese doesn't melt. Lol. I didn't desire their vegan breakfast quesadilla nor padrino (I think that's what one had). See pictures. I must say I wanted to get the greens but I will definitely order them on another visit. The vegan ordered vegan pancakes for All to try. I like the crispy edges of any pancake but didn't need the pecans. The vegan butter and syrup was impressive. We got a lot of apologies in due time as 1) straws were forgotten 2) soup of day query was forgotten 3) refills forgotten 4) table wasn't cleaned 5) Milkshake was delayed but hey ... It takes as long as it takes. But I didn't order it so I can't say. I was most bothered the itemized check was taken away so I don't have an image for this review but also BECAUSE a huge convo took place regarding the tip. A new immigrant to the USA was amongst us AND had legit questions so I was happy to explain but their receipts show 20% totals and higher for tipping yet this receipt show the total with tax. Tips for on the pre-tax total. Long and short I can recommend 1) fried chicken fried 2) sweet potato waffle fries 3) mashed potatoes 4) brown and light gravy 5) vegan pancakes 6) American potatoes looked great but I didn't touch em as I had plenty Parking is rough. Cleanup in between flipping/turning tables doesn't really happen in the overflow and I'm good on that. Like, sweeping and wiping can be done between tables and as parties depart. The staff is younger like everyone appear to be teens which led a dining member inquire where are the adults? I think I saw 1. There is an overflow parking lot.

They had 86d a couple items so some may want to pop in earlier if you're not flexible. Instead of the mini muffin basket we ordered the cinnamon roll. Both of us really liked it. It has the texture, density and cinnamon flavor like the classic. But the frosting is a nice mix of a sweet and touch of tart like cream cheese can be tart and delicious but not sour. Strawberries were an excellent side to this. Brought some more tart and sweet flavor to the dish. I wanted a more traditional grits, eggs and bacon meal. Stone ground grits were on point and quality of ingredients was forefront. Eggs were scrambled wet as ordered. I asked for my bacon to be so crispy that it could be used as a flag pole. They knocked it out of the park. Bacon if you stood it vertical didn't bend or sway. Just the way I like it. I also didn't find it to be too greasy like I sometimes find bacon. Their orange juice is exceptional. It is genuinely fresh squeezed. Having had fresh orange juice like squeezed right after picking from trees, I am a bit of an orange juice connoisseur and this hit the spot. Fruit bowl was fresh, ripe and plump. Definitely made same day and not premade or sitting. Partner enjoyed his tuna melt on sourdough. The cutest thing ever is that they cut a special shape out of the bread. Then it is sat atop a toothpick like thing in the sandwich. It's just adorable but I'll let you discover the shape and not spoil the surprise. The only item I would not recommend would be the latte. My decaf latte was more like decaf coffee with milk in it. I prefer a more traditional espresso shot with steamed milk. Spouse was happy with their beer choice. Excellent meal, great vibes and love the heart that has been put into this place through and through. They have loyalty cards too with fun items after so many visits. Look forward to sharing this place with family. I thought it was worth the 30+ minute drive to experience something with so many unique special qualities to it. Both indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoor is covered with umbrellas. I did notice the menu had 2 items that could be ordered for pets on it. Not sure if it is for takeaway or they can dine on the patio with their people. Added level of awesome, they support a local rescue and you can bring in unopened bags of dog or cat food. When we went they really were in need of cat food. They also I believe offer a perk to each party if they bring in a bag of food. Epitome of excellent local spot and helps local animal rescue organizations. What's not to adore.
