Had the flatbread, and the grilled cheeses with tomato and bacon. Way to much rosemary on the outside of grilled cheeser. The sandwich was also greasy. The flat bread had way to much blue cheese on it for me and it was mostly in one spot. The shrimp were rubbery and had an odd taste to them. The flat bread was crispier in some spots but wet and mushy in others. The service started off good but went down hill as more people were sat. People at my table waited 20 minutes for refills. It was the first time ever I didn't leave a 15% tip. I would have given this a 1 except for one thing. Their fries were very awesome and nicely seasoned. The 2 - stars is for the service, the prices, and the quantity of food. First the service. Our waiter was not at all attentive. I had to chase him down 2x, once for salad dressing that was left off my side salad, and once for a drink refill while sitting in the hot sun. The prices are very expensive for what you get. You are paying for the view. Lastly, the quantity of food. A side ceasar salad on a 6x6 square plate was $5.00. I had it as an add-on to my entree so it was supposed to be $1.05. The waiter begrudgingly altered the price after fighting with him. He said that because I had 15 french fries as my side dish, I had to pay full price. He indicated that the reduced price was for giving up the fries. The fries were good but 15 fries is a joke in my opinion as a side dish. Now for the good. I had the Florida Ruben which is blackened haddock with a citric slaw and cheese. Very tasty. I would recommend this. My wife had the lobster and shrimp wrap. It needed some sort of sauce. Very dry and tasteless. Our dining companions had a fried fish sandwich which they said was OK. They had something else which I can't recall but after we left, the gentleman who ate the dish indicated he wasn't happy with the meal and would never go back. We were enjoying a trip to Saint Augustine and decided to take the scenic route. My wife looked up the best restaurants on the way and this received good reviews. We sat on the outside bar and enjoyed the great view of the water. Because of the sun, sitting on the deck would of been tough. Waitress at the bar was great and was multitasking many different people in the bar area alone. Our food was taking a little long for my taste. Then it came. Lobster tacos were amazing. Fish tacos are becoming my new favorite dish to have. Also, the fries were very good and crispy. Everyone at the bar enjoyed the meal. My mother-in-law even said it was the best burger. I cannot tell you enough how much I love the Funky Pelican. Well I do and we have been there numerous times. I love drinking a Corona and watching the surfers and the people on the beach. For a break in our day before the pandemic we would go and enough the outside bar. We have brought our family here for dinners and we have come here for dinners with an amazing view of Flagler beach. I love the food here. I love their shrimp and grits and I love their Cesar Salad with blackened shrimp. Those are my 2 all time favourites. My husband enjoys their burgers. We have used them for their carry outs but it is not the same as eating there. Can hardly wait until this pandemic goes away because what is great about these beach side restaurants is the people. Solid 4.5! I've been here twice and both times was so happy with my meal. First time around we got the ahi tuna appetizer which was tasty but nothing different from what other restaurants serve and the grouper and grits and shrimp and grits. I don't eat shrimp so even having the option of grouper and grits was awesome but the dish itself was a 5! It was so delicious, had so many flavors and the fish was flaky and cooked perfectly. The shrimp and grits were really good as well (per the hubby). Second time around we got the grilled cheese and the fish sandwich- again both were awesome! The grilled cheese had a few different types of cheeses and was so gooey. The fish sandwich had perfectly cooked fish and tasty slaw. When it came to the service this place was just okay. It may be because the servers need to run back and forth bewteen out/inside, but wasn't the fastest. The food, my boyfriend was happy with his cajun rigatoni but said he could not taste much "cajun". Very disappointing experience. Waited an hour for a table. The table they sat us at was open the entire time we waited. In fact, there were many empty tables while we waited. This is obviously a restaurant that can't handle serving all the tabletops. Did I mention that we were seated after a couple groups came in after us? When we were seated our waitress came over and took our order within a couple of minutes. Florida rueben, shrimp Caesar salad, burger (cooked med), and kid's chix fingers. Had to wait almost 45 minutes to get our food. Ok, so for the best part of the meal. The Florida rueben was great. Tons of blackened fish on it. And now for the rest of our meals. Shrimp Caesar salad had a whopping 4 shrimp on it. That's it. 4 medium shrimp. The burger was cooked well done, not medium. My son said Red Robin's burgers are way better than this place. My daughter's chix fingers were bland and dry. The fries are not fresh as I have had them in other restaurants. As I said in the beginning, a very disappointing experience. We dined here for dinner last month while visiting Palm Coast. The restaurant has a cozy and casual decor. The weather was confused, so we couldn't trust sitting outdoor on the beautiful deck if it rained. So we sat inside and that was the best choice because a storm came 20 minutes after we sat down. We had the fried calamari, grilled catfish, jambalaya with grits and fried coconut shrimp. Everything was tasty and made correctly. The kids had mac & cheese which they love, how could you not. Not only does the back patio offer an incredible view of the the ocean and the Flagler Beach pier, the decor is funky/stylish, the food is delicious, the drinks are strong and affordable, and the service is unparalleled. Katie, our bartender/server, gave us perhaps the best restaurant service we've EVER received. And we've been to a lot of restaurants. She was incredibly friendly and attentive, and she really helped us out. My husband Jason and I are recent converts to vegetarianism/pescetarianism. After Jason ordered the shrimp and grits, Katie double-checked with the kitchen and discovered that there was chicken stock in the grits. So we were able to design the perfect shrimp/pasta dish for him. The chef was so accommodating, and he delivered an absolutely spectacular custom dish. My fried grouper sandwich was outstanding and the fish fillet was TWICE the size of the bun. Spent a good chunk of the afternoon and evening enjoying our beach view and taking our time. I wish the Funky Pelican was a little closer to me but I would probably go too often. We had an awesome group lunch recently and we were all impressed. Drink selections were extensive and delicious. We did find it odd though that 3 of us ordered Stella, which we were pleased to have on tap, but they only had 2 Stella glasses. The food was all good. I enjoyed the Florida Reuben but the onion straws on the side were not that great. No worries I had another Stella in a regular beer glass. The tacos at our table were highly recommended and even our non-seafood eating guest loved the beef kabobs. I was so excited to try the Funky Pelican after word of mouth reviews and on line reviews. My excitement quickly went away as we sat down. Here were the issues: 1. Service was terrible! It took 15 minutes for our server to come to the table. My mother requested a steak knife and the salad dressing they ordered on 3 occasions and never received it. 2. We were over charged by $30 for items we never ordered. When we approached the waiter he was annoyed that we wanted him to correct his mistake. 3. I alerted the waiter to my shrimp allergy. Within minutes of eating my dinner I was experiencing a reaction. My body was covered in hives and my lips were swollen. 4. When my Mom approached the manager and explained the issues his response was, "we have good days and bad days." He was dismissive and rude. While some of these issues are minor some are not. That was an unacceptable response. Needless to say, we will not be returning to the Funky Pelican. read more

I go to tons of beach dives that rely on the view and don't care about the food or service. This isn't one of those dives, the food is equally as good as the view. We went on a Friday night for dinner and it was to cool to sit outside, but the inside views are great also. We had a smoked fish dip to start and my wife had a red clam chowder and I had chicken and dumplings, both were awesome. I had shrimp and grits that were some of the best I have tried and my wife had fish tacos equally tasty. The have a great drink menu and the prices are reasonable. We liked it so much we came back with my parents for breakfast the next day. Good omelettes, great hash, but the star for me was the orange creamcycle pancake.
