I cannot tell you enough how much I love the Funky Pelican. Well I do and we have been there numerous times. I love drinking a Corona and watching the surfers and the people on the beach. For a break in our day before the pandemic we would go and enough the outside bar. We have brought our family here for dinners and we have come here for dinners with an amazing view of Flagler beach. I love the food here. I love their shrimp and grits and I love their Cesar Salad with blackened shrimp. Those are my 2 all time favourites. My husband enjoys their burgers. We have used them for their carry outs but it is not the same as eating there. Can hardly wait until this pandemic goes away because what is great about these beach side restaurants is the people. Solid 4.5! I've been here twice and both times was so happy with my meal. First time around we got the ahi tuna appetizer which was tasty but nothing different from what other restaurants serve and the grouper and grits and shrimp and grits. I don't eat shrimp so even having the option of grouper and grits was awesome but the dish itself was a 5! It was so delicious, had so many flavors and the fish was flaky and cooked perfectly. The shrimp and grits were really good as well (per the hubby). Second time around we got the grilled cheese and the fish sandwich- again both were awesome! The grilled cheese had a few different types of cheeses and was so gooey. The fish sandwich had perfectly cooked fish and tasty slaw. Options are as expected, sandwiches, burgers, fish tacos, etc. On deck environment, wood booths, umbrellas (and birds!) When it came to the service this place was just okay. It may be because the servers need to run back and forth bewteen out/inside, but wasn't the fastest. The food, my boyfriend was happy with his cajun rigatoni but said he could not taste much "cajun". Very disappointing experience. Waited an hour for a table. The table they sat us at was open the entire time we waited. In fact, there were many empty tables while we waited. This is obviously a restaurant that can't handle serving all the tabletops. Did I mention that we were seated after a couple groups came in after us? When we were seated our waitress came over and took our order within a couple of minutes. Florida rueben, shrimp Caesar salad, burger (cooked med), and kid's chix fingers. Had to wait almost 45 minutes to get our food. Ok, so for the best part of the meal. The Florida rueben was great. Tons of blackened fish on it. And now for the rest of our meals. Shrimp Caesar salad had a whopping 4 shrimp on it. That's it. 4 medium shrimp. The burger was cooked well done, not medium. My son said Red Robin's burgers are way better than this place. My daughter's chix fingers were bland and dry. The fries are not fresh as I have had them in other restaurants. As I said in the beginning, a very disappointing experience. We dined here for dinner last month while visiting Palm Coast. The restaurant has a cozy and casual decor. The weather was confused, so we couldn't trust sitting outdoor on the beautiful deck if it rained. So we sat inside and that was the best choice because a storm came 20 minutes after we sat down. We had the fried calamari, grilled catfish, jambalaya with grits and fried coconut shrimp. Everything was tasty and made correctly. The kids had mac & cheese which they love, how could you not. I been here a few times moved closed by in Palm coast area. The place is nice on the pier you get a nice view. Service was great! every time I come here their busy 30 min wait so we would go to the bar and get a drink. Good time to have a conversations and enjoy the view and take it in. We order from burgers, chicken wings, fish, pasta, fish tacos, fish sandwich there all good no complain. I love the clam chowder I've had them all over the United state MA is my number one but this was up there...real good! The only thing They don't have crab legs or lobster tail unless I missed it? Not only does the back patio offer an incredible view of the the ocean and the Flagler Beach pier, the decor is funky/stylish, the food is delicious, the drinks are strong and affordable, and the service is unparalleled. Katie, our bartender/server, gave us perhaps the best restaurant service we've EVER received. And we've been to a lot of restaurants. She was incredibly friendly and attentive, and she really helped us out. My husband Jason and I are recent converts to vegetarianism/pescetarianism. After Jason ordered the shrimp and grits, Katie double-checked with the kitchen and discovered that there was chicken stock in the grits. So we were able to design the perfect shrimp/pasta dish for him. The chef was so accommodating, and he delivered an absolutely spectacular custom dish. My fried grouper sandwich was outstanding and the fish fillet was TWICE the size of the bun. Spent a good chunk of the afternoon and evening enjoying our beach view and taking our time. My Mother (91)and Aunt (94) we're disrespected by him - imagine! We should have left immediately but the older ones are to frail to walk beyond this restaurant. SAD ! Wouldn't you want your aged family celebrated rather than berated? This place would be a great candidate for KITCHEN NIGHTMARES - if you expect common decency and expect to be appreciated as a customer go elsewhere. I have been coming to FL for years and I've always been to the funky pelican. When I went this time, I got the full sized order of the fish and shrimp for like $17. I was splitting it with another person in my group and we thought it would be a good portion for $17. Well, it turned out to be 4 regular sized shrimp with 2 small pieces of fish (that were soggy on the bottom) but.. that is ridiculous! $17 for 6 pieces of seafood??? Seriously 10/10 recommend this restaurant. Went Saturday afternoon with my boyfriend. We sat at the outside bar. First off all the vibes were great and the views were beautiful. Both sarah and Leann were so friendly and welcoming. Service was fast and efficient. Leann had so much recommendations about the food. We both went with the Florida Rueben and the tuna tacos. Both dishes were so delicious. And we also had the gator bites which were bomb!!! They are fried, but weren't greasy whatsoever. Arrived and was seated within 15 minutes. Was seated without silverware. Menu is pretty generic. Asked what specialty was and was given the answer pretty much everything. Shrimp and Grits is good. They have three different types of Tacos with a blacked shrimp, Mahi Mahi, and a lobster taco. I opted for the Blackened Shrimp taco. Drink menu was extensive. Ordered a Strawberry Daqeri with my food. Food arrived pretty quickly, but ended up waiting another 10 minutes for the daqeri. Plate was swimming with grease / watery substance. Softshell taco was cold, in fact the shrimp was the only thing warm besides the black beans on the side. There are about 4 shrimp per taco. The ambiance of the restaurant was a rather loud atmosphere on a beautiful setting at the Pier. Neat logo and tees, good job by the screen printer. read more

I was so excited to try the Funky Pelican after word of mouth reviews and on line reviews. My excitement quickly went away as we sat down. Here were the issues: 1. Service was terrible! It took 15 minutes for our server to come to the table. My mother requested a steak knife and the salad dressing they ordered on 3 occasions and never received it. 2. We were over charged by $30 for items we never ordered. When we approached the waiter he was annoyed that we wanted him to correct his mistake. 3. I alerted the waiter to my shrimp allergy. Within minutes of eating my dinner I was experiencing a reaction. My body was covered in hives and my lips were swollen. 4. When my Mom approached the manager and explained the issues his response was, "we have good days and bad days." He was dismissive and rude. While some of these issues are minor some are not. That was an unacceptable response. Needless to say, we will not be returning to the Funky Pelican. read more
