The place is overcrowded. The brunch was disgusting. The pancakes were literally rock hard enough to crack teeth - no exaggeration. The coffee was disgusting. Silverware must be asked for and is handed out begrudgingly. The service is snail-paced slow. Every table around me had similar complaints about the meal. Awful experience. Show that front bar some love before the show. You can order food there and escape the crowd you will experience for the show. You do not have to rush to your seat, they will show you the way! I don't know if I want to mention this but, I bought general admission tickets, which is a shared table with strangers situation. I've done this before at other shows at different venues and always have a great time. This was no different AND we were seated next to the stage! Amazing service from walking in and being greeted and checked in and escorted to our seats next to the stage! This is a small venue in a large building that closes to the general shopping public, so the chances of meeting the star(s) of the show are great! I was excited to meet and greet. Attended the comedian Mojo Brookzz set with Fab Monroe as the opener I have no complaints the show was cool the SERVICE however was horrid!! And the side wall obstructed view seating is crazy it's like they just try squeezing in a seat where ever they can get one not concerned at all with the paying customers view of the stage at all.... The show started a few minutes shy of an hour LATE we just myself and one friend were seated waited 25 plus minutes for the server we put in our drink order as well as an order of wings.... About 45 minutes in the server brings over the sorry looking wings( like dominos wings) but no drinks... those seated in-front of us and behind us all had food and drinks and we literally ordered at the same time same server... we asked about our drinks and she said they'll be out soon the bar is slammed... some time passed and we caught her walking by and asked AGAIN she claimed she went to check the bar for them and when she came back she said the drinks hadn't been made and there's no longer a bartender at the bar! Mood killed but yet she proceeded to give us the bill with 18% gratuity added in... gratuity for what,,??? We gave back the untouched pigeon wings she was unapologetic and gave attitude as if it were our fault we didn't get our drinks smh literally 5mins after that Mojo's set was done and the show was over. That goes to show how LONG we waited for NOTHING...after the show there was lots of chatter about the lack of service provided. I feel like I spent more time wondering where our food and drinks were and trying to get our servers attention than I did actually enjoying the show! Funny bone in St. Louis was amazing 10/10 all around.. This Albany location was a bust. Maybe just bring your own food and drinks in your purse that'll probably be BEST. Expecting dinner and a show? Think again! Go somewhere else before/after the show. Menu is limited (bar food, understandably) and the quality you'd expect from a high school football game concession stand. Drinks are expensive and mediocre at best. Waitstaff is setup for failure because they're probably classified to rely on tips, so if you only want to watch the show, they understandably pester you for an order. Just give them a cash tip and ask them to leave you alone. Remember, it's not their fault either. Seating uncomfortable, expect to be crammed next to a stranger unless you're buying a whole table. Sharing with strangers isn't the problem, but the seating is akin to airplane seating, so keep that in mind. A table that is for barely over two people is stretched to 4. Ticketing policy excessively restrictive, no transfers refunds or exchanges, name on ID must match ticket. Everything is setup to ensure the only thing that is guaranteed is that Funny Bone Inc., not the talent or waitstaff, makes money whether or not they have to deliver. It's a shame because it seems it's often the only place in the Albany area where you can see some bigger artists probably because they book a bunch of Funny Bone clubs nationwide at once. There's much better venues in the area and hopefully artists consider this in the future if they can, see: Palace, Proctors group, the Egg, Arena (yes, I realize the arena is huge). read more

You're going to want to read this one. I shall rescue you from an awful experience and teach you how to make the best of this experience by learning from my mistakes. Mistake number one is ordering drinks. Let me tell you. I didn't know a virgin Long Island Iced Tea was possible until I visited this bar. This thing was yellow in color, was made in a rocks glass and not a highball, and you couldn't taste the alcohol in it whatsoever. Which is surprising since Long Islands have four different liquors in them. I'm pretty sure I could've given it away to a child and not be arrested for distributing alcohol to a minor. Needless to say, the place needs Jon Taffer, stat. He would've smashed this glass up against the nearest wall. Splattering it everywhere in a fit of rage before it was even able to touch my lips. Don't pay $15 for a juice box poured into a fancy glass like I did. The second mistake is ordering food. I got a burger. That's right, a burger. How can you screw up a burger? I ordered it medium well and it arrives to the table charred. Where are the french fries? We pulled the menu again on a cell phone and saw that fries don't come with the meal like at every other restaurant across the entire nation. No. These were an extra addon for an additional $7. So here we are now eating an overdone burger by its lonesome. So now you know the secret. Don't order food or drinks at this place. Go only for the comedy and hope that you've picked a day when the comics are good. Pregame your restaurant and bar experience at the nearby Hooters prior to your arrival here. Then, if you still want to keep your buzz going, make sure you have your flask with you filled with your favorite liquor. Order only sodas at Funny Bones and then give it a little hit from the flask when nobody is looking. Trust me. It's the only way you're going to get drinks with alcohol in this place. Not sure why this place gets so many bad reviews. There's really not much else competition in the area, and with that youd think this place could get by as a shitshow, but it doesn't! A co-worker and I came here on an early Friday showing for Joe Zimmerman and he was amazing! The MC and comedy opener were equally as great. -1 star because they put groups together, which can become kind of awkward when you're staring a couple down. Maybe keep an area for general seating and an area for people to order food? For a comedy show restaurant, the food was beyond expectations. They defintely put in a bit of effort into their menu (its not just things like chicken fingers, mozzerella sticks, fries.) I had their pulled pork sandwich was soooooo good. We had such an amazing time! Anthony and Johnny were so funny! I never laughed so hard. If you ever get the change to see Anthony Rodia and Goumba Johnny DO IT!!! OMG are they funny!! I'm sad to write our service was not the best (directly due to our waiter). I spoke to management today and have to say she was extremely apologetic and was very open to listening to my concerns. Arrived with a large party of ten. We were asked to come at 8:30. Event to begin at 9:30 and doors to open at 9:15. The first show is running behind. No big deal. The venue is very disorganized. we are waiting in the bar area, and staff isn't sure which door we are entering in. The line extends down the hall into the mall. There is limited access to a bathroom as it's roped off, people are walking around the rope . The other show is still going on at 9:22 and they haven't exited the room. Limited number of bartenders serving drinks. Music in the lobby where everyone is waiting is overly vulgar to be heard in the mall and LOUD. Atmosphere and conversation amongst guests was nice. Went to my first show with some friends. The seats were good. It appears that all seats make it easy to see the stage. The opening act who I guess is the MC, was just okay. ( sorry Travis). But the two comedians that preformed that night were hysterical. I know I have read reviews that it is not always a great show but I must have hit a great night! Yes, drinks are a little expensive but that is expected. The price of food seemed reasonable although we did not order anything. My friends ordered the funnel fries and the brownie and said they were both delicious. Our waitress was attentive. I did not receive my complementary souvenir glass with my drink. I myself wasn't concerned, but I can see how this could pose a problem for others. All in all we had a very fun evening, It is worth giving it a try at least once! read more

A comedy club right in the mall (Crossgates) who would have ever expected it. I do enjoy the atmosphere of the place and the employees who work there all seem to be very nice. Only problem spot I noticed is if there is a band playing across the hallway at Rascal's you can hear it a little in Funny Bone's but it's not totally distracting. The shows are good, the pork nacho's are very tasty as well as the drinks. If you buy a selection a drinks in one column you get to bring home a glass. Don't forget when you pay for your tab afterwards that the tip is included. Your options to give extra. Plenty of laughs await you. read more

This is a well run venue that does a very good job at what it does: efficiently assemble an audience, entertain them, feed them if they wish, and move them out quickly. The staff cleaned like an airplane crew after a flight for the next show. The comedy is entirely dependent on the quality of the comedians. Tonight I saw Darryl Hammond- he was terrific! Only had beer and hot pretzels, which were hot and freshly baked. You should know that you may be seated with others at your table, but it's fine. Tonight there was a very rude table near the stage: Darryl Hammond made several comments on how loud they were and distracting to him. I can't understand why the management did not address these people until the last 5 minutes, because they were clearly annoying the headliner. I hope they learned from this experience! read more

My previous review for this place was 1 star! So you're surprised I would ever go here again and am now giving it 3 stars. Well some things change. My DH a volunteer fireman and I were attending an annual firehouse event here. We arrived right on time and joined other members, around 25 of us, for the open bar. I ordered a Mai Tai which was not what I traditionaly have had in Hawaii with Myers Rum but I drank it anyway. DH had a beer in which what can you do to that It came out of a bottle. You know what you're getting there. We all sat at tables just outside the stage venue in front of the bar area where a buffet was set up for us. We were served salad, chicken, beef, rolls and brownie for dessert. After reading many reviews for this place I was very surprised that the food was as good as it was. The menu for the buffet was much different then the menu served inside the show. After dinner we were escorted in to our reserved tables inside the venue. I'm a bit torn on this review. The venue is small enough that there is not a bad seat in the house, and VIP tickets will guarantee you're even closer. We came to see Tracey Morgan, and both he and his openers were fantastic. But the service was unbelievably slow. Thank God we ate dinner beforehand. We paid $17 for a soda and one mixed drink, which we didn't receive for about 45 minutes. Seriously. With that timing, it should have been free. The waitress was apologetic and said they only had one bartender working... with a sold-out show. How is that possible? No one else on staff could fill in? Also, the seating is pretty cramped. Many of the tables seat 4 or 6 people, and are on the small side, so the surface area is barely adequate if youre ordering food. Elbow room? Forget about it. Getting in and out of your table? Not easy. Also worth noting - if you come with a smaller party, you'll be seated with strangers. I clearly didn't have a fantastic experience at the Funny Bone, so while I'm not dying to come back, I'd definitely return for a worthwhile show. It's a comedy club, set up like all comedy places seem to be: small stage, as many chairs as possible around it, and people squeezed into tBles with strangers (definitely my least favorite part of comedy clubs). I like that there is a bar outside the main room so you can get a drink while you wait to go in. Also, you better get that drink before you go on in because their table service is incredibly slow. So it's nice as far as this sort of place goes, and they do have friendly staff and get some good names. But, each time I have been, there have been issues with the drink service. And good luck getting help from a different server. They're all so rushed and busy, they don't have time to help your server know what they missed. This is a big issue in my book because 1) I don't want my drink as the headliner's set is wrapping up when I ordered it before it began (which happened), and 2) I mean... Doesn't it just make sense to be able to have a few drinks without hassle at a comedy show? Why do they make it so hard. The club needs to figure out this service issue. I travel frequent comedy clubs. I wanted to try this place along with see a comedy show and a Comefian I follow. The place was very clean. Servers and staff were very friendly. Food was pretty good although last few bites of bacon blue/cheese burger was a bit dry but do able. Something I thought was pretty neat. The servers had portable hand helds to swipe cards. And actually was told the take wireless (tap cards with chip) and one person stated used Apple Pay but forgot to confirm that. If your a soda drinker. It's $4 per soda but $7 for unlimited refills & get souvenir glass to take home as well. Little perk in there. Although traveled 300 miles round trip, I definitely would go there again. read more

Would you assume that the staff here try to make horrible jokes of their own as they lead you to your table? They do. It's cute. We had a great time here for our first time. The way this venue lets people in is quite organized and for that, I am grateful. It's not necessary to grab seats and save them for your friends. The food isn't so bad, but omg they add SUGAR to the sweet potato fries. What HORRIBLE MONSTERS. Thankfully, you can ask that they don't add sugar to the fries and they can bring you salt instead. The drink options are plentiful and decently priced. The cocktails look scary, but they're hilariously named, so I like that. I really liked our host. I wish that for this battle of the comics thing we went to, that there were more female comics, but so is the comedy industry. I definitely want to come back here. It's a good time. The soft opening took place this weekend with Ryan Hamilton (Comedy Central on stage) for the first three nights. Other upcoming comedians scheduled to appear in the next few months at the Albany Funny Bone include John Morgan, Jo Koy, Lavell Crawford, Greg Warren, Marlon Wayans, Jake Johannsen, Brad Williams, Tommy Johnagin, Aries Spears, Mark Curry, Nick Griffin, and Josh Sneed. Tickets for the shows can be purchased at the onsite box office/ticket window or online at funnybone.com. The full service open dining/bar area is in the front of the comedy club which has a several tables and seating at the bar (4 flatscreen TVs). After shopping at the mall, I decided to stop for some food at The Funny Bone. There was a comedy show this evening, but I needed to rush home so I could watch the VMAs on my TV. I took a seat at an open table and looked over the food menu, which consists of appetizers (fried foods, nachos, dips, wings), salads, sandwiches with fries, entrees (strip steak, mac & cheese, salmon, pulled pork, baja tacos, shrimp basket), and desserts (funnel cake fries, cinnamon roll bread pudding, cheesecake, brownie sundae). The prices here are moderate, slightly overpriced. The waiter promptly arrived to take my order. I ordered a Diet Coke ($7-with souvenir glass & free refills) and Smokehouse Nachos ($11.99). The nachos arrived fairly quick to my table, which was a respectable portion, enough food for dinner. The plate of nachos consisted of tri color tortilla chips topped soft black beans, tender pulled pork, queso, fried onion strings, pico de gallo, and BBQ sauce. While the nachos were an interesting combination of ingredients, which were actually not bad. However, the temperature of the nachos were lukewarm. I passed on dessert since I was all set and needed to boogie. The service was very prompt and I was given another Diet Coke (without asking) during dinner, which I definitely needed. I'm giving 3 stars because the comedy act was fantastic! However, we've never been, we came all the way from Long Island to celebrate our anniversary as Albany is where we met. The guy who sat us was amazing told us how everything works. Told us that our wait server would do a last call etc. Well, our waitress didn't even come to our table until about 30 minutes already in to the show, I asked for 2 sodas and 2 cocktails. We received the cocktails-they were amazing-but the sodas never came. We never once saw our waitress again. We even asked the waitress helping the tables next to us, she said she'd get our waitress and still nothing. While the other waitress did last call, ours again didn't come-she didn't drop the check til the last 5 minutes of the show-and charged us for the sodas-I waited til after the show and had her take them off but never even got offered if we wanted to place food nothing-she was no where to be found throughout the whole show! read more

Just got home from a show and I was honestly disappointed. The comedians were good but I have some issues with the venue: 1. They pack you in like sardines making it hard to maneuver around, especially for the wait staff carrying heavy trays. 2. It seems like there are not enough wait staff to take orders and I heard them say "the bar and kitchen are really backed up, I'm sorry for the wait" 3. This is the 2nd time that I have visited and it takes FOREVER to get your check. They should have tablets for the tables that alert a server if you need something, where you can pay your bill, etc. 4. For making you sit for up to three hours, the chairs are terribly uncomfortable. My rear is so sore and actually fell asleep a few times. 5. The food is mediocre. My frozen margarita came in the smallest glass, wasn't filled up the whole way (so it was a little more than half full), the price was advertised as $9.99 but my server ordered it with Cuervo, so they up-charged me to $10.99 without me even asking for it. 6. No matter what you order, they charge 18% gratuity and sometimes 18% isn't warranted from the service that you received. 7. It's expensive. They have fees on their online ticketing system, which racks up if you buy multiple tickets. Also, we ordered Bavarian pretzels as an appetizers (3 sticks and three dipping sauces), a frozen margarita and two beers, along with gratuity came to $41. I will only go to Funny Bone to see artists that I really enjoy but try to avoid ordering food/drinks. read more

Out of the 3 comedy shows I've seen here, the actual comedians have played out like this: Opener - usually awful. Good for a single zinger. Middle guy - hilarious. Has the room roaring Main act (2 of 3 were definitely widely known) - awful. Either their same played out act or just crickets for the most part Now the club can't be totally blamed for awful comedians, but the service is wishy washy. If you're closer to the front the waitresses/waiters are pretty attentive and will bring you food/drinks reasonably fast. Where we sat last night the service was awful. She basically did not return to the table the entire time until she brought the food, which took until the closer got on stage, so by the time I got drink #2 she let me know it was last call. If you notice the comedian is bombing the least you could do is try to get people drunk and laughing. I have had the food here. It's fine. It's your average bar food, nothing to rave about but it definitely hits the spot. Even with a party of 2 you're definitely spending a good amount. Drink prices are a dash higher than your average place but it's to be expected since it's an entertainment venue. read more

My wife and I have patronized the AFB (Albany Funny Bone) twice in the last month. We were pleasantly surprised. The AFB is clean, modern and there did not appear to be a bad seat in the house. I believe they can seat about 130-150 patrons. The sound system is clear and loud. The air conditioning was on but it was not too cold (my wife gets cold all the time and she was very comfortable). No smoking. The AFB has a decent food menu and drinks menu. There are numerous server staff working the floor before and during the show. One tip. Do your homework as to the type of comedy you will see from the headlining comedian. If you are easily offended with cursing, edgy topics or sex jokes, maybe you should visit on another evening. Comedy clubs are insidious with these types of jokes and topics (we laughed our butts off on both visits). If you are a party of two you will be seated with another couple, as most tables are set up for 4 people. Not a big deal at all, plus you get to meet a few new people every time you go there. You cannot choose your seats. In summary, my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed both visits to the Albany Funny Bone. Casual dress attire. The food, drinks and service were very good to excellent. My friends and I came here last night to see Brad Williams. Despite the fact that we were very distracted by a super drunk chick in a red dress the size of a postage stamp (who was later thrown out of the show), we had a good time. Pros: -The venue itself is very nice and larger than I expected it would be. -They allow you to do fundraisers for charity. My friend was able to keep 100% of the proceeds of the tickets that she sold, and she raised over $500 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. That was awesome of them to do! -When complaints were made against the aforementioned intoxicated woman, the staff took to action. She was approached twice, by a hostess and the doorman, before she was finally removed from the show by someone who may have been a manager. They should have nipped it in the bud, meaning she and her date should not have been served 2 bottles of wine in the first place, but at least the staff was responsive. Cons: -They sometimes have to seat you with other people, which I do not like. If I come with a date, I would prefer to just sit with my date, not along with two perfect strangers. They have tables for 2 but they won't seat you there because they're in the back, and they want to fill the front first. I get that, so maybe move some 2-tops to the middle of the restaurant? I happened to be with friends so it worked out, but in the future I might not be so lucky. -The staff, though friendly, needs more training. We were served a bottle of wine but it was never opened. Neither the waiter nor the runner had a corkscrew, it seemed. My friend had one on her (don't ask) so we ended up opening it ourselves. Not sure how long we would've had to wait if it weren't for that! -Another friend said that her meal (house salad, fried pickles app) made her sick when she got home. I had read reviews on Yelp that the food was not very good, so I did not eat here and therefore dodged that bullet. It seems like the food could use some work. I only have one concern is the chicken sandwich please upgrade it or make it better. Drinks were awesome and staff where great and kind. read more
