I took an ottoman to an upholstery shop on Main Street in Pleasanton, What a disaster this business is. They tell everyone the same thing and seem to have no concern about being dishonest. They told me to order way too much fabric, clearly more profit for her. Finally found another option: Furbelows in downtown Danville. Cannot say enough about what a great experience this was. My first order of fabric and upholstery of my two kitchen chairs started before Cov19 reared it's ugly head. I picked up fabric samples and brought them back with 6 chair seats which I unscrewed from the frame of the chairs. Yvonne guided me through the mountain of fabric books with questions to narrow the field down. She then held onto my old seat cushions for the fabric to arrive from the distribution site which wasn't very long and then she had both picked up by the upholsterer. In a matter a few weeks, it was restored. The upholsterer determines the foam condition, the straps etc. I beefed up my foam density due to the heavy use at the kitchen table. The ease of this process surprised me. Not complicated at all. The price of the fabric, the material used under the fabric etc all determine the cost of the redo. Now with my second order post Cov19, I once again brought my old seat cushions from my dining room and living room. This time Yvonne had all the doors opened. The same entire mountain of fabric books were narrowed down with our masks on. Hahaha. Some of my fabric came from crazy Cov19 New York City and yet it came quickly. Wow. And the same process of dropping off and picking up my seats all done with no change from pre Cov19. Yvonne kept in contact throughout the process and reduced the stress of it all. We recently relocated from the Boston area, where we had a wealth of decorating resources. I came here specifically looking for a charcoal gray fabric trim to use on some curtains I'm making...they did not have any thing in stock, but I was impressed by the number of fabric books (to order from), of course there was nothing in those either, but the selection was wide. There were some very nice and expensive looking fabrics (I didn't check the prices), but they were all pretty traditional - nothing in the modern category. The service probably could have been better - I got a welcoming smile from one employee who was on the phone when I came in, but the other employee did not acknowledge me. And even though I spent probably 15 minutes looking through the trim section and trim books (right next to the customer service table), no one asked if I needed help. Being new in town, needing an unusual window treatment and being curious about Furbelows (did you know it means a gathered or pleated piece of material?) I stopped in. The moment I met and engaged with Yvonne, I knew I was in the right place. She was gracious, knowledgeable, had first-hand work room experience and a generous amount of sample books. I sensed I was in capable hands, trusted Yvonne's judgment and instinctively knew she wouldn't steer me wrong or take advantage of my pocketbook. After completing my due diligence, securing advice and bids from two other drapery establishments, my gut brought me back to Yvonne at Furbelows. I had a picture of the widow treatment and type of fabric I desired; however, I needed her expert advice to determine if it would work and 'look' similar to my vision. What Yvonne did next set her apart from all the 'others.' Her experience and confidence encouraged me to double the fabric for depth of color and weight, something the 'other' contenders did not suggest. And, when I wasn't 100% thrilled with how it initially hung (10 foot expanse and mitered corners), Yvonne and her fabricator quickly responded with a personal visit.
