We adopted a chi/rat terrier from there last year. We didnt have a horrible experience. It will be noisy, you cant expect dogs to be silent. Smelled like urine, so not sure if they get taken outside to potty. The only down side my husband and i had was my dog is definetly not mix chihuahua, but i can understand that when they are all so tiny they all look mix chihuahua.We were told she wouldnt shed at all(which i had told my husband that breed sheds a lot anyways), and last but least my dog would NOT potty train outside what so ever until she was pretty much 6months and would occasionally do it a few months after. I would take her out but she would still pee and poop every day as a pup in her blankets so i sadly i couldnt sleep with her as a baby. I wasnt sure if this was because at her old home (furever home) they were all just allowed to pee where they slept so that's all she knew and brought that bad habit over to us. But either way we love our katie and shes grown up to be such a beautiful and wonderl dog. read more

We got our two rescue pups from Furever Homes - they were well socialized, microchipped, required minimal further training, and were well cared for health-wise. We'll never know why because he's adorable, but our little Jack Russell-chihuahua mix had been there for a year. They continue to be great members of our family! I have read the reviews here, read the story from the Olympian, and read the comments. Visiting Furever Homes is overwhelming. Its not a conventional shelter. I have had dogs my whole life. My family raised dogs for the Army, and, in the more than 2 hours we spent with the dogs at Furever Homes, we never saw any dangerous or unsanitary conditions. I am disturbed that folks are willing to gloss over the great work the the Gold family is doing because they don't like the smell of a messy dog kennel. The dogs don't care about the smell. The dogs are alive, safe, well fed, loved, and socialized in a pack (which makes them good doggy citizens out in the real world). I called Sharon on Friday October 20th, the anniversary of my daughter's death and as a family of five we wanted to adopt a puppy. She made arrangements with me via phone and text to meet the dog. I drove my whole family out to meet the puppy. The lady told me they were 10 weeks old and rescued from Mexico, that she had personally given them their first shots and would give Aviana her second booster before we left that day. She would also provide a flea treatment. We loved her at first site and Sharon told us to run to atm and she would bring the puppy inside as adopted. We ran to atm and got the money agreed upon. When we got back the puppy was not there, Sharon said her son took her to a friends house and would be right back, called him and told him. We waited for two hours for the return and finally she said she would bring the puppy to me. We signed contracts and she said I could pay her when she met me later today. Hours later I asked if everything was ok as her son hadn't returned and she sent me a text saying that her sons friends family wanted to keep the puppy and that she was going to let them. Said she was sorry. I know this is personal but my daughter that passed away was named Ariana and two years later I had my rainbow baby Ava. When I saw Aviana I was blown away, for sure a sign from God with the combo of their names. Sharon knew this, she met my family, she met our dog, she signed an agreement and then backed out and told me because I didn't pay our contract didn't matter. I recommend you read these reviews in reverse chronological order. The most recent are probably the most relevant for your choice in using Furever Homes. I admire Sharon and the work she does in rescuing dogs, particularly the small dogs that are often difficult to care for and train. The only concern I've ever had is her tendency to take on more animals than she has the capacity to support fully. Her family is all-in on helping with the caring and feeding and cleaning that's necessary, but when we got our dog in 2015 there were not a lot of visible other volunteers or caregivers for the dogs. This can lead to sometimes messy, unruly gatherings of the dogs in the open areas of the rescue. Older reviews and news articles focus on these issues. The fire was a tragedy that could have been much worse, but was bad enough. Sharon has improved things since then. But importantly, there is love there, a palpable feeling of caring and concern for each dog. Sharon does her absolute best to ensure there is a connection between adopter and dog, letting people take as much time as needed for finding that connection. She will also let people visit more than once if they can't find a good match the first time. She is not looking to push the dogs at any adopter, just wanting to find appropriate homes for each dog. She wants the adoptions to work. Sharon worked with our 10yo to make sure she understood that teacup dogs were really for less active people than a youngster, and that their fragility meant she wouldn't be able to play with them the way she could with a more robust dog. Our Timon, later named Peekaboo, chose her and has been one of the best gifts to our family since we adopted him. I have been searching for a dog to adopt and came across Dezzie, this handsome young poodle, Maltese mix, and text Sharon. She was prompt in responding back to me, and set up a time where I could meet him, and she was amazing!! He took a little while to warm up to me, but I was determined to bring him home. I spent 3 hours in her home where I could interact with him, and she was very hospitable and understanding. I since then renamed him to Falcor, and he has adapted to the rest of the family and clients, as I take him to work as a therapy dog. Everyone absolutely loves him and so do we! Sharon has done an amazing job rescuing death row dogs and trust me it is very difficult to do. It is traumatizing to deal with the volume of animals we have to see that cannot get out alive. It is also traumatizing to deal with the public who so often does not appreciate what we have to go through to get them their beloved pets. Lack of appreciation is difficult to deal with. I applaud Sharon for all of her hard work and encourage others to appreciate what she does. She is sincere and very committed. My wife and kids just returned a puppy that unfortunately had some emotional issues that resulted in her attacking and biting our 8 year old daughter on Easter. It was traumatic and disturbing because we didn't want to lose our newest family member. But, our children's safety is more important to us, and we didn't want them to experience fearfulness in their own home. My wife took the puppy in ASAP after speaking with the employee who said to bring her back and seemed understanding. Upon reaching the location she immediately became belligerent and yelling and calling her an "idiot" and "stupid". She tried to explain that she bit our daughter to which she said well what did your daughter do to deserve it. This all happened in front of other patrons, some with children, who left and said they wouldn't be back. One, Sheila L., left her own Yelp review with the same account of the events, but attributed it to the same business name at the Lacey location (http://m.yelp.com/biz/furever-homes-dog-rescue-lacey). And if all of this wasn't bad enough, the employees response is she will just sell the dog to someone else. I hope this doesn't mean someone with children will be endangered. I should point out that we had the puppy for 2 months hoping that she would eventually warm up to us. The employee that yelled and called my wife names in front of our children, and blamed my daughter for getting bit, had the dog 1 day before selling it to us for $350. A traumatic, unfortunate, situation made many times worse by an unprofessional, cold person with no concern for peoples feelings or safety. read more

On August 3, we found a dog that we brought home with us from Furever Homes in Tumwater, WA. At the time of adoption, the owner, Sharon, promised us all the correct paperwork for the microchip, vaccinations and spaying. All of these items were part of the dog's website description and confirmed verbally by Sharon. At the time we got the dog, Sharon was in the midst of dealing with her mother's impending death. We were understanding of the dire situation and agreed that Sharon could email paperwork later in the week. We did not immediately press her so as to allow her time to deal with the loss. It has now been nearly 2 months. We've texted, emailed and phoned multiple times, with no delivery of the paperwork. Our vet determined that the dog has NO microchip, which leads us to wonder if any of the other promised medical treatments happened. Beyond all that, the dog had a bad case of kennel cough. Sharon offered to pay for the vet bills associated with treating the illness, which obviously did not happen either. We truly didn't expect her to absorb those costs, it is just one more false statement that Sharon made to us. We love the dog, have no interest in returning her, and would keep her no matter what her condition. Our point in writing this review is to let potential adoptive families know that dogs are misrepresented at Furever Homes. We have given Sharon multiple opportunities to deliver the requested documents or, at least, explain what the situation is. She will not return any of our communications. Therefore, we have no choice to do our best to let any potential adoptive families know of our more than disappointing experience with Sharon and Furever Homes. After losing our 14 year old dog, my wife and I were looking for a new dog. I met Sharon at Petsmart in Lacey after seeing her dogs online. I decided to take a small dog, Bella, who fit what we were looking for, and surprise my wife. I brought her home and took her out of the car to,go in the yard. She ran away and I could not find her. I called Sharon and she and her daughter helped search the neighborhood for hours. Sharon finally found Bella. We mutually agreed that it might not be the best fit. We kept in contact and she called about a month later to say she had found a dog that would be perfect for us. We drove again to Petsmart where Sharon was having an adoption event. She was busy so we looked at the dogs. Immediately we were attracted to a young female dog. Almost simultaneously Sharon came to say that this was the dog she had called us about. That was almost 4 years ago. Lucy is now an integral part of our family and we couldn't be happier. Sharon went so way beyond what was necessary to help us. I worked with Sharon to adopt my dog Katie about a year ago. Helped her set up some cages after she moved from the Lacey location to Tumwater. I have to admit that the place does not smell the best but Sharon and her workers are Saints for doing the job that they do. She could use more volunteer help. Katie had a cast on her leg when I got her. She had fractured her leg while there and was still quite young. Sharon took her to the Vet and had her treated. Then she took her home to heal with her dogs. When I got her Sharon told me it would be best if I waited until her cast was off to take her home. But she did let me take her home with the cast after I waited a few weeks and went to the Vet with her to have her leg checked out. Sharon paid for the Vet bill and I paid her the standard fee which included Katie's shots, her spaying and the other Vet services to keep her healthy. I think that Sharon and her co-workers deserve a lot of praise for what they do for these dogs. And, if you have some time I bet she could also use your help. She and the others there work hard to find homes for dogs that would have been killed if she had not found them and taken them in. She and her workers have big hearts and are doing a great service for these animals. read more

I brought my Boston Terrier to Sharon with the understanding that when she found people that wanted him I would be able to meet them and tell them about my dog. If you ever had to rehome your loving pet, you understand how hard this was and is for me to let him go and to make sure he has a loving home. She told me it would be a week before she would begin advertising him. The next day there was his picture and the amount of money she wanted for him. When I finally got a hold of her again she told me he's gone. The family that got him sent me a video and pictures of him. That was in January and nothing since. She told me they don't want to talk to me because they are afraid I would want him back,. I can't have him back, but I want to know he's doing well and see pictures that he is happy. I went in Oct for 1 puppy, a rescue dog from Mexico I saw online. I took both brother and sister, couldn't separate them. Sister came home with kennel cough. Sharon (owner) kept telling me she was sending medication. She did not. Sharon said give cough medicine that had Doxycline. For two weeks I waited. I have proof of this. When she finally sent it, because brother now got the cough, it was pill form and her written dose to me was one full pill each. I was concerned and took them into Vet (Animal Health Care Center, Renton) and was informed that the dose she gave me to give them was 8, YES EIGHT, times what they should have. TOXIC. Was told that boy dog had the worst ear infection they had ever seen. It took three rounds of vet appointments, antibiotics, medications, and of course, money. Girl dog got over her kennel cough finally. They were supposed to be micro chipped. They weren't. She sent me the microchips but I had to pay the vet to insert. Now I check out her website and see more dogs that are identical. She called them Mexico rescue dogs. Is it a coincidence that these "look alike" dogs keep coming from Mexico? I wonder, puppy mill in Mexico? Whats the difference in a puppy mill here or Mexico? Absolutely nothing. They have been mistreated. But they have love and a great home. Someone should really check this woman out. It is a disgrace. I have all texts she sent. I can back up all claims I have made. Please don't support her "rescue" operation as it "seems" it is a for profit scam. read more
