We met with the Foster Mom Sara. She was a delight to work with. She helped with the adoption process and answered all our questions. She even made herself available to us after we brought him home to answer any further questions we might have and to help us with the transition of having Oliver (our new name for him) in our home. I have only positive things to say about Lovebugs Rescue. The process of rescuing Oliver was smooth. They did a thorough job of vetting us to make sure their rescue dog was going to a safe and loving home. They also wanted to make sure it was a good fit all around. I appreciated that. Totally verifies that she is more interested in her ideas of dog health and welfare, not in what the medical veterinary professional say. Nor wha the law's intent means. She says that they are "OBLIGATED" to spay early. THIS STATEMENT IS A FALSEHOOD. A statement more about justification a as of her & the organization position than application of facts. The law she/they are hiding behind is California law that says the following: "....rescues and shelters are legally required to spay or neuter every dog and cat prior to placement for adoption. The only exception is if a licensed veterinarian provides a letter stating the animal is too unhealthy for the procedure or it would otherwise be detrimental to the health of the dog to be spayed or neutered....." Note the exception: "The only exception is if a licensed veterinarian provides a letter ....". ( reference: https://www.animallaw.info/statute/ca-dogs-consolidated-dog-laws#s30503 ) In my case , I provided such a letter, from my small Animal vet, stating that the health of the German shepherd puppy would be damaged if spayed prior to 18 -24 months for the breed. This affects both physiologically in bone and joint plates growth health and potential cancers. The procedure itself, a procedure implemented prior to 24 months, is the very damage to the dog's/puppy's health . The law provides for a solution. It specifies demanding a higher deposit and written agreement, to assure compliance after the breed specific safeguard time period. That law states: "....the adopter or purchaser shall pay the public animal control agency or shelter, society for the prevention of cruelty to animals shelter, humane society shelter, or rescue group a deposit of not less than forty dollars ($40), and not more than seventy-five dollars ($75)....... The deposit shall be temporary, and shall only be retained until the dog is healthy enough to be spayed or neutered, as certified by a veterinarian licensed to practice veterinary medicine in this state." This group, specifically Maria, ignores the California law that allows exceptions based on the individual dog's needs. German Shepherds, by breed association, have such needs. I recommend that no one donate further to this organization further. Perhaps the lack of money will force them to think differently and put the dog's health 1st rather than be worried about puppy counts. Sadly I have stopped my generous support and blocked the emails. It is sad because my horses and my dogs are my world. They are my kids and I will fight for them. The hard cold facts are they spay too early for the breed, causing health damages and future owner costs. Worse is the thick headedness of the position, regardless of possible solutions both legal and ethical. They seek a dictatorship type control. Treating anyone else who does not fit their personal checklist as hostile, bad or beneath them, rather than realizing that character trait is the very core and essence of excellent home. It is ALL about a good, loving & responsible persons. That care for the dog and its future, is the very thing they should to seeking....... And don't. Unless they change, with a more flexible make it work attitude, I would avoid this organization.

I adopted Chloe on August 28, 2019 after 3.5 weeks of stalker her and sliding DMs to the organization/volunteers - more like blowing up their DMs. LOL. Til this day they keep in touch! HERE'S MY STORY. I have given up trying to adopt a dog because it seems daunting and never ending with dismissing inquiries - it belittled my confidence in ever adopting a rescue. I decided to give my dog search one last try and I saw a picture of Chloe. When I want something, I will go beyond measures to get it. Chloe stole my heart and I knew she'd be mine. I went to the SCPR website and emailed them, followed their social media, and sent messages and received no response. I even noted their address and was determine to drive 1+ hrs but realize it doesn't look like a dog rescue facility. I did my "investigating" on InstaGram and connected a key person (Jasmine) in the organization and slid DM's her way. She connected me to the temp. foster mom (Theresa) caring for Chloe via phone to know more about her personality. She didn't tell me just the good stuff, she truthfully told me about who/how Chloe is - I appreciate that because I've had other organizations say anything just to loadoff the dog. Shortly after, they texted me about the meet and greet event coming up in Irvine that weekend and then it was announced online. I wasn't sure what was expected and so I arrived 2hrs early and waited near by. And was the first person to arrive at the event to meet Chloe and spend time with her. A ton of people were there to check out Chloe and I started to lose my confidence assuming maybe those people are better fit because this is my first dog as an adult and all these other people have dogs an etc. I stayed an extra 1.5hrs observing Chloe and chatting with volunteers and of course checking out my competition. I then asked the organization "what's the next step, I'd like to do a trial". According to them, I was the only one who stepped up and asked and so I got my chance. Little did they know, I have been observing Chloe through pictures and social media for 3 weeks that i have prepared for her to live with me even though I have yet met her (bought her a bed, tons of food she might like from a special dog deli, bought her a few mini tennis balls, bought a camera for my home so I can spy on her, seemed out local small dog parks to take her) - yah, I'm THAT dedicated type of person. Couple days later they arrived in San Diego to do a home inspection and drop Chloe off - I was truly ready for her. Our week trial went great, we were the right fit. While on trial, Chloe got fleas from the dog park and the organization allowed me to take her to their vet to get checked and get medication for her. During trial, they followed up to make sure everything was okay. Their lines of communication was open and I could reach out to them about anything. After a week, we went forward in making the adoption final! They given me a chance to love a rescue dog and I hope to provide Chloe with #livingherbestlife moments in San Diego.
