I'm a fan of PoochMatch! Relatively easy process. I searched online for a fur baby. You can search by breed if you want. I sent an inquiry about being interested in a couple doggos. The next day I received a phone call and text message from the Foster parent. She was very friendly and nice. She answered any questions I had and we set up a time the following week to meet the dogs. My main concern was making sure the new doggy got along with my current puppy. My current pups is a Pomeranian. I brought my Pom to meet two different dogs through PoochMatch. My puppy didn't like either one. The first dog, my puppy was growling and didn't like. The second puppy they tolerated each other a bit, but my Pom would run away any chance she got. I am still confused as to why. My Pom is very friendly and has been fine around other dogs. I'm not sure why she didn't get along with the possible adoptions. It was still a nice process to go through and I'd recommend for anyone wanting to rescue. I really want to rescue. The second puppy we saw was homeless and needing a home badly. Poor baby. read more

I have been in a position where animals have been found, and with nowhere else to go, she did not hesitate to support them and help expedite an adoption. I know this Fabulous Rescue through Nextdoor and had the pleasure of meeting Lydia many yrs ago. She helped me find loving homes for two little fur babies I found in our neighborhood! Ppl seem to dump dogs when they are tired of caring for them, Shameful.... This last interaction was this past January, a beautiful female mixed with hound and Shepherd etc I came across at a park, someone dumped her and a male. They continued to stay put in the area waiting on owner to come back It tore at my heart. So I began to leave food and water at my door, they would circle the block. My wife and I adopted a 2 yo German Shepherd Mix from Lydia at Poochmatch and I wanted to highlight some positive things from the experience. In the beginning, we understood that our application was not a guarantee or an automatic 'yes' to a dog. Think of it as an interview for being a dog-parent. To my surprise and delight she messaged us less than a week later and we had a nice conversation on the phone. I found her to be very thorough and forthcoming with information about specific dogs. The dog in question we'd inquired about had already been adopted, but she recommended a different dog based on our wants and needs, and what we knew we could handle. She sent us some pictures, and the dog looked good. We agreed to meet her at an adoption event at Petsmart in Yorba Linda where she would have that dog for us. Long story short, Lydia paired us with an absolutely wonderful dog. Probably the most affection dog I've ever met in my life. We've had her roughly a month now and we are completely head over heels for her. Of note: Our new dog had been spayed a few days prior to adoption, and the incision was still healing when she popped a few sutures a few days after we took her home. This was not Lydia's fault at all, rather the result of a very flexible dog. I messaged Lydia and she directed us to a specific vet in Garden Grove who re-sutured our dog, and Lydia was kind enough to assist us with the cost, which I did not expect but was very grateful for. The incision has now healed completely. Lydia also provided us with a wealth of information on safe toys, good food, vaccination records, tags, and a behaviorist in the area if we desired some training. We had good luck adopting two Maltese Mixes about three months apart. our male dog Casey is a nut and we have to scratch our heads about him, our female Nikki is a total love bug and the best dog you could have when you are adopting from a shelter or rescue you just never know because of their past history what you are getting, while sometimes we think about sending Casey back. it won't happen even though he can be a pain. they are at their forever homes and it is nice to know if something should happen to us they will have a place to go and not end up at the city pound. read more

We adopted Milano (now named Maori) on June 8 and today we returned to PoochMatch for his vaccine. My husband and I are very happy we were both approved and were able to adopt Maori that day even when I did not get my application on time online and even though there was another customer who had appointment for Maori that day. My husband and I patiently waited and immediately observed how busy Lydia, Ariel, and the rest of the volunteers in making the process smooth for all willing to adopt a dog that day. Yes, the process was a little confusing especially if you walked in without an appointment because the customers with appointment have priority since they were already prescreened. But if you're serious at adopting and you show patience and respect to the staff and other customers, I think the staff are more than reasonable to explain the procedure to you despite how busy they are. I have read the many reviews and although some are not so great, I truly believe Lydia and her team are trying their best to match a dog to the right home. They ask a lot of questions and try to get to know your living situation because they know what the dog will need growing up in a new environment. Lydia actually was honest to my husband and I about not being much of a fan of nurses or medical professional adopting a puppy because of our schedule. She explained that getting two dogs or an older dog might be better in our case because of our work schedule and the dog's needs of playmate and comfort. Nurse schedule are usually long hours , but since I work in the clinic and my husband only works 3 days, we explained to her in a calm manner our situation and our plan B ready when one is not available. Fortunately, she gave us an approval to adopt! We then waited patiently because the dog we fell in love with had an appointment with another customer. I wish I knew my pups backstory as I do my other rescues but no one was there except older day volunteers and a young girl who was behind a desk who gave out paperwork. She was crying as she was being yelled on that rainy day in March by a man who said there was a dog in a crate that was too small for it. We felt bad for her and continued to meet all the dogs they had that day. It was chaotic since everything was inside. I asked an older lady volunteer about my pups ear and asked if it was dirty she said she didn't know and there was no one else to ask so we filled out the paperwork and went on our way a couple hours later. We get home and I looked on you tube as the dirty ear was not going away on it's own. We took her to the vet as instructed by you tube and sure enough we had adopted her with a very bad ear infection. I emailed Lydia (as I was told she was not there to ask that day in March) and explained that I paid for the vet bill and was not going to ask for reimbursement due to the fact that I respect her work in rescuing. I just wanted her rescue staff to be more careful as they could have easily checked each dog at any point to notice the infection. At that point I got an email response that seemed a bit defensive stating she pays thousands out of her own pocket for dog cancer bills from TJ. Again, while I respect her rescue work... I wish I knew my pups backstory as she has a large scar across her whole face that every stranger on a daily basis asks me about. I also wouldn't have minded her appreciation in not asking for the $300 I paid for the vet bill or confirmation that she will train her staff in the future to look out for infections. I can't imagine how much pain my poor pup was in as she scratched her ear daily until she yelped/whined and it was at least weeks until she was treated. Last, we were told our pup was Jack Russell/Mini Poodle. DNA test stated half CHIHUAHUA(which is obvious from her paws and eyes) and half mini poodle/cocker spaniel. I majored in animal science, educated and trained in the field. People should do their due diligence when rescuing a dog. Update to Lydia's response: Leaving 8 reviews in 5+ years is hardly a cyber warrior. Her response to my review has nothing to do with our conversation over the phone. Lydia repeats information from "experts", but that is totally different from being a professional in the industry through education and training. The owner Lydia denied an Asian couple in front of us, who were a nurse/doctor, and then said if they got "two or three dogs then maybe we'd consider you". We thought it was discrimination and then confirmed it when it was our turn. We are a young couple, 26 year old lawyer and 23 year old teacher, Lydia appeared as an older lady pushing retirement. We all had to fill out an application front and back but because we are young and one of us is a student, she denied us and didn't read the application. We were denied for being young and "there's a possibility in 3 years we'll be too busy for the dog." If you are a suburban white couple she will probably approve you, but everyone else as we saw was discriminated against. Great puppies, but Lydia should not be the one in charge of this. read more

We stumbled upon an adoption event held by Poochmatch about a month ago, we fell in love with Cali and decided to adopt her. The adoption process is hectic, meaning there are a lot people, a lot of dogs and one person with some volunteers running it. We know that as a rescue, there is only so much information that they can obtain on the dogs past. However, after a basic checkup of the dog is given ALL information should be disclosed to the rescue and the adopter. We feel that Poochmatch and the vet used failed to disclose vital information. For example, all her paperwork states she is 12 months old, as we left with dog in tow, we were told she could be maybe be 2 years old. We took Cali to our vet and were given some details that should have been disclosed to us when we adopted her. She is not 12 months old, she is closer to 5 years old. She has a heart murmur and had at least one litter of puppies. This is all information that came to us from a basic checkup, the vet used by Poochmatch should have been able to realize all this and relay it to the rescue which should have been disclosed to us. We were verbally told she received a 2nd bortadella vaccine due to where she came from, however, her paperwork doesn't show it was given and when we inquired we were told its something that is never given by Poochmatch. We felt like we were lied to and information was not disclosed so that she can get adopted out faster. If we knew all this information, would we have adopted her who knows but despite all this, we love our dog and are doing everything we can to get her trained and to trust people. We have already reached out to Lydia with our concerns, but we feel like others looking into adopting with PoochMatch should be made aware. read more

My boyfriend and I adopted our puppy Bruce (formerly Dumpling) from Pooch Match last August. The application process was pretty strict which makes sense because they want to make sure the dogs go the right home. We sent in an application and waited to hear back from them to see if we would be approved to meet him at their adoption event. About 6 months ago my family and I went to our local pet smart to check out the adoption event, with no intentions of leaving with a dog (so we thought) We fell in love with Blaze- A Siberian Husky. Id like to point out we are young, hispanic couple with a 10 year old boy -With our own business we let her know he wouldn't be home alone and we had plenty of time for him The owner Lydia was very pleasant and informative. The adoption process was really smooth. Of course there was a lot of paperwork to fill out, but its only because they really care about the home the dog is going into. We don't live in an apartment which is obviously very important. After everything was filled out it was very fast process. She asked us important questions while reviewing the application. She also let us know the dog we we're interested in had been returned by a family a few weeks ago and disclosed why. We decided to give it try either way. he was our first family dog. We received a folder with everything we needed to know about having a dog. Lydia also let us know we could bring him back at any point if it didn't work out. That made me feel so much better. (i was so nervous to take a dog home) 6 months later he's now a part of our family and i can't picture our life without him. Since then we have rescued another husky, Bonnie. Yesterday Blaze ran away and I contacted the owner Lydia. She returned my call immediately and with her help and suggestions Blaze was home within 12 hours. Her help was everything! It took me a good 8 months to finally pen a review. And I have to say it is still going to be a very weird review. I initially had very pleasant interactions with Lydia in regards to an application I had submitted for these maltipoo puppies. I had expressed my concern about having a Siberian Husky, but still wanting a small dog, and understood that I could be turned away. My application was reviewed and I was told it was stellar. The rescue wanted me to bring my husky with me to the adoption site on the date. But because of the chaos there, which I really understand, the dogs are anxious, there's people and so much going on, that it wouldn't be a breeze for my husky being there either. I barely got to interact with the puppy I had wanted to adopt, and one of the volunteers got really annoyed with my husky too. My dog and I just kinda waited around, because I wasn't sure what I could do. In the end, Lydia came back to tell me that she felt the puppy was a better fit for this other couple. While I absolutely understand, and respect the decision because it's in the best interest of the dog, I wish Lydia had told me from the start so I didn't have to drive out to Yorba Linda with my dog to only be turned away. I wasn't sure what she was going to glean in that time and place with how my dog and the puppy would have interacted. The process was really weird. Lydia was really kind throughout. She told me again even as I left in tears that my application was great, and she would still keep me in mind. I admire her work and the work of the volunteers, but my own experience was bizarre and I did wish it was handled better. I am rating 2 stars instead of 1 because we are so happy with our dog we got from PoochMatch, but my review isn't about how much I love my dog, it's about this non profit. My husband and I had 4 dogs in mind we asked Lydia to bring to the next event they were hosting about a year ago. We had done our research and have both owned dogs before so we knew what we were getting into. She didn't bring 3 of the 4 dogs we requested to see because "I didnt think you would be a good fit for them." We had only spoken over the phone 2-3 times. The one dog she did bring was listed as about 3 years old, but was clearly at least 5 years old or older. She kept pushing for us to get him saying "go with an older dog." Luckily, there was a dog there we had seen on the site that we ended up taking home that day. My main concern is that I never received any paperwork for his history. They told me he had all his puppy shots but I never got a copy. I didnt realize this until I went into the adoption folder last week when making the annual vet appointment for him. They also didn't know he had a chip until I asked them to scan for one during his adoption. My vet said they have never heard of an adoption place not having proof of vaccines to give to the adopter. Seems a little shady. If you do choose to adopt from this non profit, get all the paperwork you can. read more

Amy was listed with poochmatch. Her mommy was no longer able to care for her as she herself was put in hospice care. Amy was a darling little girl with manners and all. I do not usually write reviews, I feel obliged however to write this to warn dog lovers before they make decisions to adopt any dog from PoochMatch in Santa Ana. I adopted a 7 year old male Chihuahua from Lydia in May 2020, she gave him an oral prescription for diarrhea when I was there, gave me 3 cylinders without name to take home to continue the treatment, she also advised me not see any Vet as she knows how to treat dogs, I should bring my dog back to her in 2 months to get a vaccine shot plus what a sacrifice she'd done to be in this foster business ...etc ... It sounds wonderful, isn't it ? On the way home, my Chi started sneezing repeatedly in the car, he pooped about 14 times with wet shit during the next 8 hours until 2 am. I had no choice but texting Lydia about the situation, she texted me " don't take him to the Vet, I'll put medicine in the mail to you " 3 days later I received a small package of pills cut into halves without name or instruction included. I decided to take my dog to a Vet to get a Giardia, Parasite, Blood test and medications that costed me about $400 for 2 visits but it was well spent money to bring this poor Chi to a healthy condition. My Vet told me that he'd contact this Foster woman to tell her that it was wrong of her to administer medications or shots to the dogs. Your wonder why I did not return the dog to her for full refund ? Well, this Chi is very attached to me from the moment we first met, with an unusual affectionate lovely personality like that, I decided to keep her at any medical costs. After an exhausting few days we were able to locate the owner and figure out the next plan of action (the dog was surrendered by owner). Lydia worked SO hard to find that sweet girl a home (young and energetic pitbull who was very social with people but not so great with other dogs at the time). Our situation allowed us to only keep him overnight at our home so I posted on Nextdoor looking for the owner or a foster before we'd have to take the poor baby to the shelter. I immediately heard from Sandra from Poochmatch which was amazing. She called me, listed to our situation and unfortunate deadline and then went to work coordinating a foster. Sandra stayed in communication with me all day, checking in every few hours with updates and assurance. By early that evening pup was picked up taken to a safe overnight and then to a foster. Poochmatch will look for owners as well as ensuring he's healthy, flea free, and most importantly, feels secure. Sandra has provided me regular updates and I know pup will have a wonderful life ahead as a part of a his own family. We adopted our puppy, Biscuit, from Poochmatch after seeing him online and then meeting him at Petsmart in Brea. Ariel did a wonderful job raising our dog before we got him. He is so friendly and sweet! The info on the Poochmatch website was one of the most updated and informative of the many shelter and rescue sites we were visiting during our search! We were disappointed many times by other sites by going to an event and learning the dog we wanted to meet had long been adopted. The adoption process was easy, yet through. Their medical records and instructions on where/how to get him neutered and vaccinated were clear and accurate. And any questions I had after the adoption were always kindly and promptly answered. UPDATE: As you can see from Lydia's response, she looks for every opportunity to retaliate as I predicted. I actually found a VERY popular and perfect dog a week after this nonsense & adopted him. He has settled beautifully into our home, and the organization that rescued him was respectful/competent/responsive, and did not begrudge the time commitment they give to rescuing, unlike Lydia Savala. It could not have been more seamless. Wow. I don't even know where to begin. To say that my experience with Pooch Match was horribly unprofessional, disillusioning and unacceptable is scratching the surface. I would NEVER recommend this rescue organization to anyone looking to adopt, which is a shame because they should be going above and beyond to make the rescue process enjoyable and productive. I can't imagine how many people they have ruined the adoption process for, and steered towards breeders and puppy mills. There are PLENTY of other rescues in Southern California that treat their applicants with respect and decency. I am certain that Lydia will respond to my post and imply that I was impatient or inexperienced, but see for yourself in my screenshots how she spoke to me and handled the process. She is combative, petty and not equipped to deal with the intricacies of the dog adoption process. My full experience detailed below -- From the beginning, Lydia Savala and her team at Pooch Match were unresponsive, curt and frustrating. I found a dog a couple weeks ago that I fell in love with, so I sent in an application and Lydia told me that she would review it and get back to me. She never did. Since they only allow one person to meet each dog at their weekly Saturday events, I called days later on that morning, and she finally told me I was rejected. She was short with me and complained about having a house in escrow (which she has mentioned repeatedly, despite its irrelevance), and didn't even want to explain why I was rejected because she "did not have the time for this." I followed up two days later saying that if the dog was still available, I would make all the necessary changes to make our home the best fit for the dog. She said I was approved on those circumstances but that another applicant was going to meet him the following Saturday. She said she would call me if he was not adopted. Since I live 1.5 hours away, I offered to travel to the event in case that applicant didn't work out, and checked in both the day before and day of the event. No response. The day after the event, I followed up to see if the dog was still available and she told me he was, but that there were 4 other applicants so she had to review them as well. I reiterated how she had already approved me, and how interested and committed I was to the dog from the very first posting. Keep in mind this process was two weeks in the making and I was consistently checking in on both email and text because their responses were scarce and uninformative. They never once discouraged me from following up and knew how passionate I was about this dog. I even sent videos of my home, and explained that meeting the dog was crucial to seeing the "fit." I asked if I could meet him before the upcoming event and she told me she'd let me know that night. The following morning, I checked in as I had not heard from her and she literally said "I don't have time to deal with this at the moment. I'm in escrow." and "I have loan docs to deal with." I said I understood she was busy, and was willing to check in at a later date. She told me to "stop checking in" and that she has "a tremendous number of commitments." I expressed how disappointed I was in my experience with Pooch Match and how she could have let me know from the very beginning that I was rejected and that I should stop following up. Instead of saying she was sorry to hear this, she blamed it on me "not taking being declined well" and said "There is nothing unprofessional going on other than your complete insistence that you get the dog regardless of our opinion." She literally ended it with saying "There is no shortage of dogs. Please continue your search." I am in absolute SHOCK and AWE at the lack of respect and communication with Pooch Match. For Lydia, the owner and face of this organization, to hurl insults at me and speak condescendingly to a person interested in rescuing a dog is beyond me. I truly don't believe she is interested and invested in finding the best homes for these dogs, given the way she treats passionate and committed applicants. I have actually received better customer service at the Post Office. Do yourselves a favor and avoid her at all costs. If I weren't so genuinely committed to rescuing a dog and assumed she spoke to the rescue experience as a whole, I would have stopped the rescue process or gone to a breeder. read more
