Huckleberry was the kitten I was trying to adopt that had an instant connection with my FIXED dog and they ignored me

If I could give them a lower rating I would. I found one of their kittens at PetSmart and suggested the kitten to my mother, who has no cats because she lost her 17 year old tabby earlier this year, and they wouldn't let her adopt a kitten because her 2 corgis are not fixed? They were very judgmental and condescending to her for them not being fixed and rejected her application immediately. However, I felt that gave me a window to try to adopt the same cat for myself because originally when I met the cat at PetSmart, him and my (fixed) dog had an immediate connection and I wanted him for myself, but didn't want to be selfish like this rescue is. They ignored my application for a week with no response until the cat was adopted by someone else. I emailed them again, and was called deceptive and told to find a cat elsewhere by Brooke Kelly because she assumed I was getting the cat for my mother who had already been rudely rejected. I live in my own house in a different city, as was listed on the application, and I was ignored and then rudely disrespected for trying to adopt a kitten to play with my dog. Even if that had been the case, that I was trying to get a cat for my mother.... Why was I treated so unprofessionally and rudely for trying to give a cat to a loving home?? Because two dogs aren't fixed?? They aren't even the same species?? And how entitled do you have to be to tell other people what to do with pets that are already in their family and home?? I have been trying to file a complaint with this rescue and I'm still being ignored. Please look for your new fur baby elsewhere, as Brooke so rudely suggested. This rescue doesn't care about placing their animals in good homes, they're greedy and entitled and will speak down to you if any of your pets are not fixed. They're very judgmental and if you check their Instagram, they steal animals that are already microchipped and registered to someone else and try to make them pay to get their pets back and if they can't pay? They adopt them out to someone else!! Disgusting!!

Here's the kitten that we adopted elsewhere after Furry Friends DECLINED OUR APPLICATION!

They do a lot to help animals in need! Happy to help them by donating good, toys and treats through my business.

The staff works hard to help them flourish and thrive, giving each one the best possible chance of finding a forever home. The team is experienced, dedicated, and many of them have been here for years. Their knowledge and commitment are evident in the care they provide every day. I also love that they offer spay and neuter services. Helping prevent unwanted litters is one of the most effective ways to reduce the overwhelming number of kittens entering shelters and, in the long term, helps decrease the need for euthanasia. I highly recommend supporting or adopting from this shelter. They also accept donations, which directly help provide food, medical care, and other essentials for animals who desperately need it. Every adoption, donation, or act of support truly makes a difference.

She ran away from home and ended up in the shelter for about a week. Because of whatever policies Plano has, they spayed her. Bella was 11, and it is incredibly high-risk to alter dogs at that age. Because of that decision, a few weeks later, Bella developed cancer. We took her to the vet to get checked out, and they told us how much the cancer treatment would cost. They also confirmed that when you spay older dogs like this, they are at a very high risk of developing cancer. Ultimately, she died. I had to put her down because she was in so much pain. Mark my words, Plano Animal Services, karma will come for you. May Bella rest in peace. I will never forgive y'all. Bella was healthy. She was my childhood dog, and I had her ever since I was almost 7 years old. Now, I am crossing the stage for my high school graduation today without her here--she is just watching over me instead.

For context: this happened 9 years ago back in 2017. I am finally writing a review about this…read moresituation because it still BAFFLES me to this day. We still crack jokes about this situation at any given time. At the time I was 13 years old and my mom and I were looking for a small dog to adopt. We were browsing shelters all around DFW trying to find the perfect fit for our family. We stumbled across Second Chance and decided to take a look at their small dogs, and that's when we found the cutest little brown Chihuahua! She was perfect, super adorable and amazing temperament. My mom and I instantly fell in love with her and were practically begging to fill out the adoption application. Once one of the adoption counselors sat down with us, she asked us basic questions (have you owned a dog before, was the dog spayed/neutered) etc! Basic questions that we easily had the answers to. Then the lady informs us that the little dog is heartworm positive, and asks us if we know what that is. Well yes we do know what heartworm is! She then asks if we have ever had experience with a dog that is heartworm positive. (This is when it gets absolutely ridiculous) My mom, thinking she was adding important insight and HOPING to inform the counselor that we will in fact actively treat her condition, said that she did have experience with a heartworm positive dog.....WHEN SHE WAS 5 YEARS OLD. IN MEXICO. IT WAS HER FATHERS DOG. My mom, at no fault of her own, once again let the counselor know what this was literally 25-30 YEARS AGO. And it technically wasn't her dog. She just grew up with this dog and knew that when her father first adopted it, it was heartworm positive. And of course they treated and cured the dog of heartworm as well! But, it didn't matter. The lady took the little dog out of my hands and said they don't adopt to anyone who has had a dog in the past that was heartworm positive. My mom was baffled and once again tried explaining that it wasn't her dog. They didn't care. I was sooooo upset and honestly I was mad at my mom for even saying anything but in retrospect it wasn't her fault. That rule is absolutely ridiculous especially if it apparently counts towards when you were a child with no autonomy over what animal happens to be in your life. I don't know if they still operate like this, but do yourself a favor and just go to Operation Kindness. A million times better and amazing customer service as well. This is where we ended up finding our new member to the family, Bella! This place definitely has first come first serve on animals but with their STAFF (as seen in other reviews posted) and they make it very obvious by the insane rules and "criteria" they use for adopting out a dog/cat. I am 22 years old now and still would not recommend.

I adopted my dog from Operation Kindness and am extremely disappointed with my experience…read more Before and after adoption, I specifically asked about the lumps on my dog's body on multiple occasions. I was told they were simply fatty pockets and not a concern. Because of those assurances, I trusted that there was no serious underlying issue. Unfortunately, after my dog began experiencing serious symptoms, he was taken to a veterinarian and then a surgeon, where we learned he actually had hernias that required emergency surgery. The hernias had become severe enough to affect his bladder and bowels. Even more concerning, the surgeon believes the condition had likely been present for a long time. I was also never informed that a previous hernia repair had a high risk of failure. Had I been given complete information about his medical history and the risks involved, I would have monitored him differently and sought treatment sooner. I understand that rescues cannot predict every medical outcome, but adopters deserve accurate information and full disclosure about an animal's health. Being told multiple times that these lumps were fatty tissue when they were actually hernias has caused my family significant emotional distress, unexpected veterinary expenses, and put our dog's health at risk. I hope Operation Kindness takes steps to improve communication and medical transparency so future adopters can make informed decisions and pets can receive the care they need before conditions become emergencies.

After meeting up with Yvette I was given 8 hours to make my decision. I asked if I could see Nachos vet records with no reply. That was already a red flag. I showed up to the adoption event the next week and there he was!! I feel if they truly cared about the animals they would be accommodating and work harder to rehome. Overall, I believe Lost Paws is running a sketchy business. The whole interaction with Yvette was very off putting. My heart breaks for Nacho as I was ready to adopt and give him a great new home and all the love!!

It's just crazy how this woman is treating potential customers because we're not her first bad review. It makes me question her motives.
