The night started with them seating me at the prep station bar in the corner. Cool. No problem. I like my peace. I like my solitude. I like pretending I'm a food critic with important opinions. What I don't like is sitting there so long waiting for service that I started considering applying for a job. Nobody greeted me. Nobody checked on me. Nobody even looked concerned that I was aging in real time. When someone finally came over, my place setting wasn't complete. No napkin. No proper setup. Just vibes and uncertainty.
