Tip: don't go on an icubs night!! My boyfriend and I love coming here and come here way too much! The service is always great and the servers are super nice. I've seen them on multiple occasions bring out bowls of water to the patio for people's dogs without being asked(another bonus since I like to bring my dog places) which I thought was so sweet! I usually order the California taco and the fish taco. I think they're great tasting and the prices at fuzzys are great. They also have Oreo churros which are bomb! Beer is cheap and served in a large margarita type glass which we really like. Fuzzy's impressed me more than I ever expected! I don't know why, but I was kind of avoiding this place. I mean, another "taco" place? I felt like DSM already had a decent number of options for this. Turns out, this is a great addition. We came here on a Saturday night and I didn't even think to check the ICubs schedule. There was a game and traffic was a bit backed up and the parking lot for the building was about 90% full (you validate your ticket inside at the counter). The line for Fuzzy's was almost to the stairs in the lobby. I didn't think much of the line because I assumed the ordering counter was just inside. Nope, you had to weave a bit to get to the counter. My husband had been here before and said the line is often this long during the week at lunch. It moved pretty quickly. They have a lot of options on the menu...tacos, enchiladas, burritos, salads, combos, etc. I suggest looking at the menu online to help speed up the ordering process. Even once you decide what you want, it seems that there are still more options once you tell them what you want. I went with the Taco Combo and selected the California Heat (tempura shrimp) and Grilled Fish tacos along with Borracho Beans and Cilantro Lime Rice. My husband had the California Heat (tempura shrimp), Tempura Fish, and Brisket tacos. For our daughter, we ordered Chicken Sticks, Oreo Churros, Mix-Mex Rice, and white milk. We also ordered a side of Chips & Queso. Oh and my husband had a beer. They give you a buzzer for when your order is ready. For how busy the place was, we were able to find a table easily. They have both high tops and lower tables as well as an outdoor patio. We had a short wait and got our food. I was very pleased with the amount of food for the money. Our daughter got four items for $3.99. That's pretty good! My California Heat taco was awesome! It had really good flavor and a kick to it. Really yummy! The Grilled Fish was good but I would have liked more flavor. The Borracho Beans had great flavor too. I typically think Cilantro Lime Rice is bland but this one was not. I would have eaten all of it if I didn't have so much food. My husband enjoyed his tacos. I did find it a bit strange that the tacos had feta cheese on them but I like feta cheese so I was good with it. The Queso was a bit more runny than I like but I did enjoy the extra toppings they added. The chips were also a bit too seasoned for my liking. There were workers buzzing around the place taking finished items from the tables which was nice since it wasn't really expected. These people were really nice too. We dropped in for a quick date night. We chose this place since we seen so many pictures of their huge big margarita drinks on Facebook. I thought the food was okay, reminds me of Taco Bell but just a tad fancier with booze options. Price is pretty reasonable (I guess it does matches the food quality) The place is kind of like a sports bar, they had a few TVs inside and some loud music playing. No servers really, you order and pick up your own food and drinks. However, they do have someone that comes and buses your table after you leave. Food 3/5 - I had fish burrito(Tempura) and didn't really taste the fish. The burrito did come with refried beans and cilantro rice. Thought they put too much refried beans in it and was overwhelmed by it. Also, tried their Shrimp Baja taco (tempura). Not impressed by the tempura batter. It was either overcooked or not breaded correctly. Tempura batter should be light and crispy. The taco came with lettuce, onion, tomatoes, cheese (Feta), and their garlic sauce. So I guess if you are looking for the authentic Mexican taco or food, this wouldn't be the place for you. I am the typical American consumer. When I come to a place, I want to be treated kindly, pay a fair price, and receive goods or services in an easy and efficient (within reason) manner. The ordering experience at this restaurant is so weird. Maybe it was my bad for going in the middle of a day, a little off rush time. But why would I want to stand in a super long line on a hard floor and then after ordering, be shuttled off to pick up my own food at three different locations around the store? It's like a weird traffic jam. Here's the order I received my food in: main dish (tacos), appetizer, margaritas. So weird. And it was average. Tasty Tacos are better. I ordered the 2 tacos plate dish. Comes 2 tacos of your choice with 2 choices of sides. I got 1 beef brisket hard taco and 1 shrimp tempura soft taco. My 2 sides were fried potatoes and mex rice. Everything was very good and tasted fresh. The brisket taco has a salty and cheesy taste that goes well with the crispy shell. The shrimp tempura was crispy and complemented the soft taco. I thought the sides were very good as well. The price was also better than expected. Based off of portion and quality you would expect to spend more than $10. My plate was about $8. This place has really gone downhill! The amount of time from one visit to the next has grown increasingly longer over the past few years. Tonight's experience was the worst yet. The cashier said it's a 40 minute wait for food due to being understaffed. (The family of 5 in front of us left when informed.) Since we only ordered baja soup, chips & salsa and drinks, the cashier said it wouldn't be a problem. It was. The chips were overdone and coated with a thin layer of oil. Some were commercially made, mixed with actual tortillas fried and cut. They were placed on a tray with salsa by kitchen staff. A support staff took them off the tray and handed them to me - while I had our drinks in my hand. When I asked for the tray, for obvious reasons, she displayed an attitude. The soup only arrived after I inquired; they forgot the order...I guess. A male support staff member repeatedly asked, in Spanish, the kitchen staff to prep an order of soup. He asked her no few than six times. As I waited, I asked for a 2nd basket of chips, hoping the new ones would be better. They were not, and in fact they were so coated with oil that I picked through them and placed the worst ones on a napkin...the resulting oil stains were at least amusing. I get the fact that chips can sometimes be this way, but this was just completely gross. All of this amid a moderate amount of customers, dirty tables and filthy floors at 7 p.m. Where was the owner?? This. Is. How. You. Lose. Your. Customers. And your business... read more

Fuzzy's is probably the most honest-to-god "hit or miss" kind of place I've ever been to, and in Des Moines, that's saying something. I'm leaving a general review because I've been to Fuzzy's numerous times with numerous good and bad experiences. I was there when they opened and I've been back many times since. You order first, get your drinks, find a seat and wait for your buzzer. Otherwise, there is no service to speak of. With that in mind, watching the cooks is interesting. They're a rough crowd that's sometimes really fast, sometimes really slow; sometimes they make your stuff taste really good, sometimes it just sucks, even after a night of drinking. So I have tried almost everything on the menu. The brisket tacos used to be my favorite, but lately, the brisket has been terrible (flavorless, tough, oddly wet). The chicken is consistent, but I've never liked it. The pork and beef are ok, but typically mediocre - when the brisket sucks, these are good stand-bys. My favorite tacos by far are they California Heat, with crispy shrimp and avocado. Unfortunately, I like them best with crispy shells, but Fuzzy's crispy shells are TERRIBLE. It's like they bought the cheapest brand at Cash Saver, then left them out to absorb humidity for a week. Let's just say they aren't very crispy. With all that said, if you are a taco truck lover, you're going to think Fuzzy's is terrible. It's like they make the kinds of tacos your drunk roommate would make after a bender, when there's nothing left in the fridge. So the burritos - same thing. They're not bad, don't get me wrong, but they're just ok. I've had a few different burritos and they are just not as good as place like El Rey, or El Rodeo, or Wal-Mart. They are ok. And sometimes when you're really hungry, ok is all that matters. I'm really not trying to trash this place - I like to come here, and I come here often. But it's really just "ok". read more

We've also visited during a busy lunch hour and didn't wait too long. 2nd time having the fish tacos. I just think they're boring. I have ordered both tempura and grilled and I just think they're plain. Small amount of fish they put in them. Also had the enchiladas and they're alright. They're enchiladas. Nothing super different. Tastes more creamy. Kid and family friendly. I appreciate the kid menu for picky kids. Fuzzy's Tacos is just ok; not terrible but not wonderful either. My husband and I have been wanting to try this place out for a while. I'd say it's worth trying once because it has a really fun atmosphere. As others have said before, this is Tex-Mex fast food, not authentic Mexican. So don't come here expecting that. We weren't expecting that, but I was hoping they would at least have some salsa for our tacos. I asked the guy at the window handing out the food about the salsa and he said they didn't have salsa and they were out of pico de gallo. They at least had some good hot sauce at each table that was decent. I got a combo plate with a brisket soft shell taco that was good along with a pork enchilada, fried diced potatoes and cilantro lime rice. The enchilada was also good but the potatoes would have been better with some ketchup on them. They were kind of dry. They didn't really have any condiments other than the hot sauce. The rice was lukewarm and would have been better if it had been hotter. All of the food lacked spice and could have been seasoned more. My husband didn't like his Mexican rice because he thought it was way too bland and his refried beans were dry and lumpy. It seemed like everything tasted better only when we added hot sauce to it. I will say you do get a lot of food for what you pay and the prices aren't bad. The cheap $2 PBR was a great deal, too. I can see this place being really popular in the summer with the outdoor seating and the proximity to bike trails. One side of the building has garage door-style windows that roll up to the ceiling. Fuzzy's is located in a nice new modern building on MLK across the Science Center downtown. The area is buzzing and lively. The parking lot is great and parking is validated for up to two hours. My partner and I got a couple tacos: Shrimp tempura , fish tempura, grilled fish, grilled shrimp, and brisket. We liked our tacos. We didn't come in expecting authentic Mexican tacos and it was what I expected for Tex-mex food. We thought the amount of protein in the tacos were kind of minimal compared to the lettuce and shell. Out of our tacos, we like the tempura shrimp, grilled fish, and grilled shrimp the most! I like the cheese and garlic sauce they out in it too. We also shared chips and queso and enjoyed it. The queso has shredded cheddar in it as well. They serve all their alcoholic drinks in large margarita cups by the way! We were surprised to see the beer come out in one! Service was great and food comes out fast! They made a mess up taco on accident so we got a free extra taco! Absolutely awful service. Food was okay. Drinks were awful. We got a margarita based off of the cashiers word that it wasn't spicy. Turns out it was extremely spicy, which is fine, but when asked if they could remake it or replace it with something else, they refused essentially saying it was our fault for ordering it. The other margarita that we ordered was super sour and not very good, but it wasn't suggested to us so I was fine with not getting it remade and was fine with paying for it. Since we couldn't drink the suggested drink, I asked if we could get a refund for the one drink. The manager or lady running the restaurant proceed to belittle me for ordering a drink that was spicy even though her staff told us it wasn't. She then brought up excuses that she couldn't elaborate on such as some sort of liquor law, she thought she already fixed the problem (she dumped out part of the drink and topped it off with mango flavoring and we told her it was still too spicy to drink) and she said that I was lying about what I had said to her earlier. The entire staff seemed nice, but afraid of the horrible manager. Also overheard her talking about us to another customer after asking for the remake. Also didn't get I.D'ed (I'm only 24). I came here for lunch during work hours. First thought was, how pleasantly surprised I was by the atmosphere. It was a nice day out and the garage style gates were open and I felt like I was at a beach. The menu looked good from all the options they had also and it definitely was. All the prices on the menu were so low I thought I wasn't going to get enough food when I ordered my $6.99 plate of food. It was an enchilada with a taco combo and came with two sides of my choice. I didn't think it would be that much food so I ordered their $2 tacos. When the order came out I was in shock. I had a whole table full of food. It was like eating at a buffet. I ate absolutely everything. It all tasted so good especially with the spicy sauce they have there. I had pulled pork taco and ground beef taco. Both of which had fresh vegetables on top and were seasoned to perfection. My coworker and I were both very happy with what we ordered, and said it will definitely be out regular spot. I once saw a sweet old couple buy two orders of nachos (one for each of them) and when it came up, the old man was carrying both of them back to his table... I thought the weight of the food was going to make him topple over!! That said... It's fast food tacos. They're pretty decent, a little better than I expected from them with a name like fuzzys tacos! They have huge margaritas and a patio. You can get a bunch of friends, eat a bunch of pretty decent cheap food, and head downtown or to the ballpark! What's better than that? OK let me start off by saying that I'm a firm believer that 50% of the restaurant experience is service and ambience, and the other 50% is food taste and quality. This establishment has great food, but the service is so ridiculous it almost isn't worth it. We ordered one taco plate which comes with two tacos and two sides. We opted for California heat taco on a flour tortilla and a grilled fish taco also on a flour tortilla. We opted for another taco on the side and we chose the spicy pork on a white corn tortilla. All of their tacos come with lettuce, pico and feta. All have great flavor and otherwise are pretty similar except for the protein we opted for. We also ordered case so and chips and a tortilla soup. For the two sides we opted for black beans and Mexican rice. Orders are taken at a counter and tables are open for grabs. Because we ordered an appetizer we were handed a paper ticket to pick up our appetizer and a buzzer for the rest of our food. By the time we got our ice tea and found a clean table, the buzzer was already going off before we had a chance to pick up our appetizer. Not a big deal whatsoever, we were planning to eat all of the food together but when I took the appetizer ticket up to the food counter, the food line gal immediately snapped at me and barked that I should have retrieved my appetizer before my food buzzer went off. I immediately responded that we had just poured our soft drink and grab the table when the buzzer went off, and I appreciate how fast our food came up but I don't understand why it would matter to her if I picked up my appetizer at the same time as my food since it all comes off the same food line. It was very bizarre and rude. Nonetheless, I grabbed our tray of food and took it back to our table. There is absolutely nothing tortilla or soup-like about the tortilla soup. It's a bowl of beans with a tiny bit of corn and gigantic chips on top. I wouldn't even call it a stew, it was simply a bowl of flavored beans. Don't get me wrong, it was very good but I like beans as a side and I would never in a million years call this a soup. There is no heat in the California heat taco. The hot sauce cleverly titled butt burning hot sauce is a joke. It tastes like ketchup and I actually think ketchup is spicier than this hot sauce. I very much enjoyed the habanero hot sauce and traditionally don't care much for habanero flavor but the hot sauce is not over powered by the habaneros. But seriously, they really need to rename the butt burning hot sauce to something else. Along the lines of the California heat taco, there was absolutely nothing spicy about the spicy pork taco. It's just pulled pork. I'm a girl who likes spicy food so I understand all various temperatures and degrees of spicy, and their spicy is nonsense. I think the only thing that could've made the tacos spicier would have been a side of fresh sliced jalapeños. A LOT of them. The Mexican rice is pretty standard, but it had plenty of flavor and was good. The black beans had flavor and didn't appear to be dumped straight out of the can into a bowl so that was refreshing. We got one ice cold draft beer and one brewed iced tea and both were great. The case so is excellent and the chips have some type of seasoning on them that adds just the right amount of saltiness. I don't know if I would ever go back but I can say that it wasn't an all-around disappointment.
