I bought a considerable amount of fabric from this store and I felt the overall quality was good enough but after having the supplies in my shop for about 6 days a huge infestation of bed bugs invaded my shop. I was able to easily track them to having them I have come from this shop as it was the only purchase I had made. I owner at first was very apologetic and offered to compensate me for the fumigation but after weeks of promises I still have not ever been compensated for the threads. This basically destroyed my entire inventory and I'm at a loss at this point. read more

Me and my girlfriend walked into this shop and was greeted kindly by the staff. We needed a specific nylon water proof black fabric for a project and although they did not have that specific color in stock at the time, the staff was still motivated to help me with any other inquiries we had at the time. We wound up getting a navy blue version of what we needed. One thing is for certain. The store is neatly organized and clean. Compared to the others on the block, this store seemed the most efficient in their service. I have no experience with fabric stores so I can't really compare them to anyone else. Unlike some other stores within the garment district, G&R does both retail and wholesale business (and takes cards). I had a very good experience here regardless of my limited fabric buying background. The store was very well organized and stocked with every type of fabric I could have needed and the sales guy was very helpful in leading me to whatever I asked him for. There weren't prices listed on anything but when I told they guy I only wanted to spend $4/yd he didn't have a problem giving me the fabric I had picked for that price (I do wonder if I could have asked for lower or what the price would be have been had I asked the cost without telling him my budget). Next time I need some random fabric, G&R will definitely be the first place I check out. read more

G & R are great. They are good source of brocades, poly satins, chiffons. They are also good at getting fabric ordered in if they don't have it in the store. Great prices too. I stopped by here this past drizzly Saturday. The store was sleepy, as the rest of fashion district seemed. Maybe everyone was still recovering from the effects of Thanksgiving turkey tryptophan. This was the third time I'd been to G&R. The sales people have always been friendly. I wanted to purchase a solid white shirting cotton for a blouse pattern. I had actually just purchased some really nice fabric from Mood, but then I became afraid of messing up the expensive stuff, so I decided to practice on something from G&R Fabrics first. Upon entering the store, I let the sales associate know what I was looking for and he pointed out the shelves of shirting cottons. There were only two rolls of solid white. Mood had a shelf full. I asked the G&R associate what the difference between the two rolls were. He told me, without hesitation, that one was better than the other and both were $5 a yard- less than a third of what I'd paid at Mood. A blind person would be able to tell you which fabric came from Mood, but by appearance I couldn't really tell. The last time I purchased a solid cotton from here for a skirt, I didn't like the way the fabric clung to my legs, but I'll still miss this store once it's moved to Jersey at the beginning of 2016. read more

Good selection but I'll be honest.. It looks like all the other small fabric stores up and down 39th street. The good news is that all prices are negotiable. I wasn't looking for something in specific, I just wanted to see what they had... a fabric caught my eye and I asked how much it was, the young guy said $12 a yard. I gave him a dirty look and put the fabric down immediately. He caught on and asked how much I wanted and I said I didn't want any at that price. He unraveled it and noticed that there was only about 2 yards left of it so he said he'd give it to me for $9 a yard and I said it was a shame he had to roll it back up again because I wasn't going to pay that either, so he finally decided to give it to me for $6/yard and I was on my merry way. They accept credit cards. I probably could have gotten in cheaper but he lost interest when this other chick came in looking to buy way more fabric than me. She said something about have her show in October in Brooklyn and she seemed all sad about it. Whats wrong with Brooklyn? It's the new Manhattan! read more

In the sea of fabric stores in the area, this is easily the best. Not only is there a HUGE selection, the guys are helpful and very knowledgable and they only charged $4 a yard for the two types of fabric I chose! I can't find anywhere else that charges less for such beautiful fabric. read more

After looking in the Phoenix and the Philadelphia areas for fabric, I decided to search in NYC. With a list of stores that I had researched from Yelp reviews in hand, I headed to the Big Apple. G & R Fabric did not disappoint! The store is small and crowded with many bolts of fabric. However, I did not have to search on my own. The staff was very helpful and listened carefully to my description of what I needed for my house project. Although the color that I needed was not on the floor, I was shown a bolt of fabric that had the qualities that met my needs perfectly. Then I was given a color book for that fabric to find my color, and Ta-Da! A bolt of the right fabric in the needed color was in the warehouse. I was promised that the fabric would be in the store within the hour, and it was. The next time that I need fabric, I will not waste my time anywhere else. I will go directly to G & R for their great service, the staff's knowledge of their fabrics, and the very reasonable prices. read more

I love G& R Fabrics! I was in the city for the day and came into the store. The staff there was very friendly and helpful. They answered all of my newbie questions and showed me lots of different kinds of fabric. I showed them the projects that I wanted to do and they helped me find fabrics that I liked and could work with.
