Newton store: Sweet helpful service, food was exactly what the sign said it was - my son and I got grilled chicken sandwiches on Ciabatta - nice big rolls. My husband had a Reuben with pastrami. All were prepared fresh and tasted good. But inside was the dirtiest I've ever ordered in. My family had a small pizza/sub/Italian food place at the shore when I was in HS/college and my mother would have rather died than let her place get so filthy - the floors, the tables, the window sills. Even the iPad I had to use to pay was thickly smeared with grease. It's a shame. A few hours of cleaning and mopping and it would be fine. read more

I really want this place to stick around, but time after time, nothing improved. My expectations are no different for G&S than any other deli I've ever visited. This remains the only deli that I am still frustrated with. Two simple sandwiches, at least 15-20 minutes. AND THIS is quicker than I've experienced prior. Top it off with disappointment of the quality. Thin Taylor cuts, very little of that, and a flatten down roll. Just not worth the wait. I guess others want this place to succeed too, and don't speak up? I'm giving three stars only on count of kindness. If the ownership ever decides to take a course in running a deli/restaurant/business, maybe I'll return one day. At least the owner isn't a womanizing pcs of trash like an other local deli/bagel place. God only knows how that place continued to thrive with such a dirty old man owning it! They do have damn good food though! Anyway, good luck G&S deli owner! I'll be honest - my first reaction to this place is to avoid it. It's not the food. Theology sandwiches are good. The pizza is good, and in fact my daughters say that if you want buffalo chicken ranch pizza, G&S is the only place to go. And I have to agree, it's really good. The problem is always something to do with the service. You want to order food? There's a good chance they won't start it until you arrive or it'll be wrong. I treated my daughter and he friends to ice cream there over the summer. I was embarrassed at how little ice cream was served to them. I'll go to Dairy Queen or Tranquillity Farm or anywhere before I go back there again for ice cream. So my experience on Sunday: My wife ordered 2 pizzas for me to pick up. One plain, and one buffalo chicken pizza. Pizza is ready when I get there. I pick it up, and they charge me $32. I'm thinking that's pretty pricey, but I didn't see the menu, so I pay it. I get home, pizza is good, but then I look up their menu online on their website. Cheese pizza $8.95. Buffalo Chicken pizza: $11.95. Plus tax: $1.40. So where'd the extra (nearly) $10 come from? Unfortunately I'm going to have to go back to avoiding this place like before. I really do want to like this place, but they seem to of allow their culinary skills to be hidden by the lack of customer service. read more

I really recommend this place because they let us take our electric scooters inside the store so they will not get stolen. First off the workers here are super kind and respectful, the food is AMAZING. And the all of the tables and the bathroom is super clean. Overall I love G&S and I would 100% recommend. read more

Disappointed and finally going to review. Loved that the location opened and got great ice cream sandwiches and subs several times. However, the last time and this time brought me to review. The last sub I ordered had less meat and no lettuce and tomato as ordered. I understand post Covid issues with staff and costs going up. But this order for breakfast is ridiculous. We ordered 2 "platters". I ordered online through the Slice app, so there were no mistakes. I ordered 2 of the 2 eggs and meat platter. It says comes with hash browns and toast for $7.59. When I ordered there's a choice of meat but for an additional $1.99. I chose that thinking money costs are rising. No choice of bread for the toast do I put rye if possible in the comments. Over easy eggs. Second platter was sausage. That's all I clicked because the platter comes with hash browns and toast. Needless to say, first platter had cooked yolks, bacon, and 3 pieces of rye toast. Second platter had eggs and a piece of sausage, no toast. Neither had hash browns. For $21.44, might be the last visit. We did pick up and my fault for not checking but when you can review the order online to make sure you got it right, it should have been correct. read more
