Beto and his crew are fantastic. Very responsive. Accurate assessment. Reasonably priced. Very efficient. And responsible. I had several companies come to assess and provide a quote for a giant Poplar tree (maybe 100+ yrs old) on my property that was struck by lightening a year ago. The tree was full of leaves in the Spring, except for one large branch. But in the Summer the leaves had turn brown, much more than all the trees around it, and several good size branches were falling off. Beto and one other company told me the tree was dying and there was no way to save it. Sure enough, after it was cut down you can see that the center of the trunk was burnt and black with a hole almost a foot in diameter. (The tree trunk itself was about 5 feet in diameter.) Beto's men came on the scheduled day to cut the tree down. One guy climb up the tree and started cutting, while 3-4 guys on the ground collected the branches and carried them to the driveway to the shredder. The tree's branches filled one entire truck. Then came the big branches and the trunk. They brought in a Bobcat (compact tractor) to move those large pieces and placed them into another truck. They lined my grass with wood planks to minimize the damage from the tractor. They also used wood planks to protect my beautiful vinyl fence but unfortunately two fence panels were damage from some of the branches. They told me they would come back and fix the fence. It look another month for me to find and order the correct parts. Once the parts arrived I contacted Beto, and sure enough he brought his guys back. They not only fix the two fence panels they damaged, but they also fixed a third panel for me that was not damage by them. They totally went above and beyond. Very pleasant to work with. Our neighbor had his huge sycamores removed from this team years ago and recommended them for price, professionalism, availability, and sheer skill/knowledge of their craft. Imagine my surprise when our neighbor on the other side hired them before we did and you can't even tell where the trees were. Didn't damage grass, no debris left behind, and was finished removing one large oak and four smaller trees by three. Incredible. I finally decided to get an estimate on numerous trees and the gentleman came out immediately and priced out each tree separately so we could pick ala carte what we preferred and stayed within budget. Scheduled them same day- couldn't beat their prices and timeliness- had availability within the week. Team arrived on time, appropriately dressed, and in friendly moods. They wasted no time scouting out the trees we had selected and immediately got to work. I watched like a child at an imax theater. Just so wowed and impressed how every team member had their role, maintained safety, and orchestrated the various projects with ease. They had the most impressive tools and biggest toys to get the job done fast yet safely. (The man who did the quotes had been doing this since the 90s and has since trained younger guys to scale the trees- and the wisdom training shows. With that said- it's nice to see "management" buy the workers the top line equipment because it truly makes the job easier, faster, and safer!) remote control tree stump grinder, anyone? Wood chipper that snarled through branches the size of small trees like tiny twigs. Wicked. One service they offered I wasn't aware of was pruning trees. We have a massive oak looming over our front yard and driveway. The owner saw the dead branches and recommended them get pruned so branches stop falling on the driveway where our children frequently walk and play under. Sold. I watched the tree climber guy climb up into cloud level heights that made me question if I put him in danger. Nope. He navigated the whole tree and shimmied more dead branches off than I was aware were up there. Money well spent and a recommendation we'll made! I hired Santa Elena Tree Services to remove a large red maple tree that was close to two houses and to trim an oak tree that had limbs hanging over the roof. They responded to my request for an estimate very quickly even though it was a holiday. Their bid was the lowest by far of the four I got. The crew showed up within 24 hours of me giving the go ahead, worked very quickly and they were very careful not to hurt the grass or other trees. They cleaned up thoroughly. Great company! These guys have done my tree work in Lake Barcroft for 5 years. They are professional, neat, polite and very efficient. They are also 1/2 the price of the other competitors - I know this from estimates in the past. The other guys pull up in a new F350 King Ranch truck to give an estimate - these guys drive clean, less fancy trucks and it shows in the estimates. The prices are not "too good to be true"...they are true. Their equipment is clean and it is truly are an "art" to watch them take down a tree without the "crane" ($$$) or other equipment needed by the competitors. These guys are simply amazing. We had a fallen tree last year, it collapsed on our deck. These guys took care of it within three hours, same day. Besides that, they waited for the payment from us for 10 months, which was totally my fault, dealing with the insurance and everything else, I admit I completely forgot eventually. My husband and I came back from vacation to find several branches down in our backyard after a storm. I contacted Falls Church City for a list of arborists to contact and Santa Elena was one of the two with the highest Yelp rating. I called and left a message and the owner called me back on his cell. We set up a time for him to come by for a free estimate. He was 20 minutes late for the appointment--which maybe is typical in this field of work but still annoying. Very friendly in person and gave what I thought to be an extremely reasonable estimate for the work we agreed upon. It was $275 to remove 4-5 branches, some very high up, and remove all debris. Considering that Falls Church City charges $75 for brush pick-up this is a good deal. Maybe there was some miscommunication somewhere but from my end we had agreed he would come the next Tuesday and he never showed up. It was drizzling outside, so maybe that's why, but I was still a little confused. They came the next Wednesday with 3 or 4 men working and it took about 2 hours to get everything done. Watching them climb up in those trees was crazy and really made me feel like I was getting a bargain since they were getting a job done that I would never been able to do myself. Terrifying career choice. I had the payment waiting for them but no one ever rang the doorbell and then they were gone all of a sudden. The owner called me saying that I wasn't home when they stopped by for the payment but my husband and I both work from home so we definitely were--it was all just a little confusing for me. They did a good job and were reasonably priced but I wish there had been clearer communication. I would still recommend. read more

We had a large dead oak tree in our front yard which needed removal. It was in a tricky spot, on a hill by the road next to power lines. We had 5 companies give estimates, and each one said it would be a tough job and then they'd need special equipment to get over the power lines. Santa Elena then came over, took a quick look around, made no fuss about the job and quoted us a far lower price than their competitors. I will say that communication was not great, and I didn't always hear back immediately when I left voicemails, but once we had the job scheduled, they came on the planned day and took a whole tree down inside of an afternoon. They worked carefully, caused no damage to the surroundings, cleaned up beautifully, and that was it. I'm sure other companies would have done as good a job, but these guys were so much cheaper that it's a no-brainer. read more

I needed a 75 yr old, dead oak removed from a spot adjacent to my deck and 10 feet from my house. The Santa Elena crew were the best team of workers I have had in years. Because the tree was so close to the house, all limbs had to be lowered with ropes. There was no room for large equipment, so it was all hand cut. Fantastic job! Great price! Santa Elena was the lowest quote. Beto, the owner was very helpful in providing insurance papers and explaining what they would do. He is a very good communicator. The amazing pros worked very hard and very diligently, carefully taking down this tree which was right next to our deck. They removed two truckloads of wood. They cleaned up perfectly after they were done. You'd never know they were here (except that the tree is gone). Following an ice storm in our area, we had a birch tree that looked like it was ready to fall on both our and our neighbor's homes any minute. We called Santa Elena before business hours in the morning and they were at our house 45 minutes later to look at the tree and give us an estimate. Given the urgency of the situation, they certainly could have overcharged us -- the tree had to come down -- but the quote they provided was quite reasonable, particularly given the circumstances. The tree is within 15 feet of our house and the adjacent neighbor's. The estimator came within a day of when I called. The job took two days, with several days in between because of heavy rain. They showed up super early both mornings, and they worked FAST and carefully. They also ground the stumps down. ... all for significantly less than all other quotes we got, insurance and all included.
