Horrible experience today with Morgan . I'll start first by saying she was rude the minute we walked back to her chair . I was hoping to get a color correction for my daughter and we could both tell she wasn't interested in doing it. Because I'm a stylist myself ( 17 yrs) I researched the best place to take her and explained to the front desk exactly what she would be needing . Morgan stated she would not have time to do it and the receptionist "aren't stylist" so they don't know how to book the appointments. She talked rudely to both my daughter and I and stated "I have a strong personality " in reference to herself , which is a ridiculous thing to say to a new customer . If I treated customers the way she did I definitely would not have any . It was clear she'd rather have a break then take the time to help us on a path to correct the color . We drove over an hour to this salon then an hour home and both took the day off from work . On my way out I said her personality may be a bit too "strong" as she stated and was told by the receptionist, "so is yours" . Talk about completely unprofessional. If you want to spend a lot of money and be treated rudely this is your place ! Aside from getting nothing done after our hour drive and the rude attitude we were charged a $30 consultation fee . Unbelievable! My salon treats our guest with the upmost respect and we strive to make our guest feel comfortable and taken care of. This Salon could use a class on etiquette I don't care how good you think you are at your job ! My daughter was so disappointed. She was really looking forward to this appointment. read more

I'm a flight attendant for a major airline living and based out of New York City. While on a flight from Miami to JFK a passenger overheard that I was visiting family in Indianapolis and that i was trying to find a place in New York to get my hair cut before I headed back home. The passenger informed me that she visited G Michael's Salon and that I the salon a try. After one visit I became hooked. Now I make sure to visit G Michael Salon for my monthly cut. Last week I had an appointment scheduled with Nicole, but due to a flight delay I was not able to make my appointment. The staff was very helpful in helping me reschedule around my busy schedule. I rescheduled for the following week, and instead of being scolded for missing my appointment like many other salons I visited the staff was understanding. I explained to Nicole exactly what I was looking for in a hair cut and she did more than meet my expectations. For the first time I'm not waiting for the time to pass to get out of the "awkward" hair cut phase I tend to encounter after visiting other salons. Nicole was very friendly and worked with me intensively on my new hair style. Nicole is terrific and has become a person I look forward seeing again monthly. read more

Stevie did an excellent job and my hair is beautiful! Super efficient but took her time and I was able to get a cut/balayage in under 2.5 hours which was great. The blend is beautiful and my hair just feels fresh. The salon is also beautiful and the separate wash/rinse room is very relaxing. I've already got my next appointment booked! read more

I have been going to this Salon for a while now and I absolutely love it. My hairstylist Stevie does an amazing job every time I go!! It's so hard to find a place and people you trust to do your hair. They are very good at sending reminders for your appointment and they also make it very clear on what their policies are on cancellation and children (they send you an email about it every time you make an appointment). There was always hope that my hair color would turn out the way I wanted it to, but finally at the G Michael Salon, Courtney was completely able to color it exactly as perceived. First time being there after being referred by a friend and the hair stylist said she didn't have enough time for what I wanted ( some low lights and color to get rid of my Ombré. I was there for 3 hours and left wish all over ashy brown hair (looks fine I suppose, just not what I wanted). Paid $170 ish for the service which I think is a little high for something I did not want. Also after checking my receipt that was sent to my email the salon charged me an extra $15 for "extra time" that neither the stylist or salon informed me about after the stylist wanted and put blonde streaks to frame my face which I was not happy with. I had a 2 30 appointment with Amanda. I had a lot of stuff that I was going to get done. A haircut some color along with a Brazilian blowout. I really think that Amanda as a stylist was fantastic. But what I also really loved is her personality. She did a great job and she really made the experience complete. I rarely find a stylist that is as excited as I am. I was in the salon this morning with a friend when I witnessed what I thought was the very worst way to treat a customer. I felt so sorry for this poor young woman, and am just now getting over the shock and surprise of the whole thing. I wish I would have spoken up for her, but I did not. Shame on me. Apparently, she was charged a 50% cancellation fee on a prior visit because she missed the appointment due to the fact SHE IS A NURSE who had been at the hospital working with a possible COVID+ patient, and cancelled her appointment, which was right after her shift in which she had been exposed. She clearly explained that when she cancelled , they told her she would just have to pay for half of the next appointment up front. As if turns out, they charged her for half of her last visit plus all of this visit. HER FINAL BILL for a cut and highlight was close to $500.00!!! Adding insult to injury, they also up charged her for having "extra long hair." It was shoulder length, at best!!! All I can say is, what a way to treat a nurse during a pandemic. I am not a client here, and will never become one!!!! It was more than evident this place, like everywhere else in the world, has been hurt by this pandemic, but rather than be fair about it, they are trying to make it up on the backs of their clients. WAY TO GO, G. MICHAEL. Good looking out for our front line workers! Two things; 1. Thank you to this young woman for being a nurse in these times. 2. Find another salon. I have now given this salon a few chances and I wouldn't step foot in here again if you paid me. I got a horrible haircut with Morgan, who didn't care and had no time to fix it and shuffled me off to tweak it, which I then had to pay for a full haircut....which is mind blowing! Then I got the worst color I've ever had by Amanda, which cost me hundreds of dollars. The end result looks like something out of a box. I should have read the bad reviews because they are exactly what I experienced. This place must have to charge for re-do's (and tweaks) for the high rent they are paying at Iron Works. read more

I went in for a haircut, hair color, and highlights (ombre). When the ombre style was in. My overall color was 6A and I wanted only a shade lighter (5A). My stylist (Brooke) told me it won't happen; and how it will take several appointments for bleaching...etc over a few months. I asked her to at least start the process and what my other options were. She then left and called Morgan. Who stood above me, with her arms folded and cheeks sucked in, and said "Your hair is not going to be colored today." She then asked "Is your color from a box or something from Walmart?" (while she stood there with a curly purple half shaved bob) and went on about how they're very cheap...etc. She had nothing to do with my appointment and was incredibly rude. I even randomly lied and said I was getting married and having a wedding. I guess that was their royal treatment. They then started looking at my ends (I washed my hair the day before and let it air dry) for several minutes and they suggested all sorts of keratin treatments and started selling me all these products they had on display. I apparently needed my hair done just to go to this hair salon. They also suggested another look (with a 6A overall color and an ombre), but I obviously wasn't going to pay for a hair color I already had. I decided to just get a haircut by Brooke. It was very layered and chopped up, not natural at all, but it looked ok. She all of a sudden said "Your hair is pretty healthy now." The girl besides me had an ombre and it looked very fake as well (like extensions). Th entire time they were talking about how they were trained in New York (met all these people) and were the best in the salon, and how even they wouldn't do my hair. Another stylist behind me was desperately running around trying to please his more successful client. The salon in general tries very hard for advertisements and positive reviews. They claimed to be one of the only ones that know what ombre was online. I also noticed they were asking everybody to rate them as they walked out, and even bluntly asked for tips. They placed first (for hair salon and hair color) on Indy A-list a couple of times. However, their work is mediocre. The location is in a random, excluded plaza. The space is also small with corny "polished" designs. Many of the years they still don't come on top. I went to a couple of other salons that also make the list and they are true successful salons. Two of them were my favorite for a while. I'm usually very passive in public and simply put on a smile, but I probably won't forget this incident and I try to avoid Carmel in general because of them. I am very glad I did not pay $250 for just the ombre. I saved a very long time to indulge myself. And no I wasn't extremely different either. I'm in my early 20s, try to keep myself polished, and stay up to trend (not the extremes) and usually know how to do everything by myself. I changed this review twice because they made me so upset, but I'm going to stick with the current rating because I think it's accurate after a few years. read more

Guy here, I've been here two times and each time was a great experience. Usually i get my hair cut at a barbershop but opted out for this spot because I wanted a more stylish cut. They work more with scissors and texturizing the hair so if you are looking for a style with longer hair, G Michael salon is definitely a spot to go. The haircut was pricey, but considering the relaxing hot shampoo bath, complimentary hand massage, and friendly staff, it was well worth the penny. read more

Went yesterday and had a mini keratin treatment with Hannah. I had a heck of a them booking it otherwise I would have given five stars I called to book and when I called back two times I got a tape and left a message. When Lindsay at the front desk called me back the time I wanted was booked by someone on line already. I was disappointed especially snide when they are busy it doesn't let you hold it forces you to leave a message. Let's talk about the service and hair results. Hannah greeted me with a hand shake and a smile. We consulted at her staton. She offered a quick head and shoulder massage. Yes please. I was then taken for shampoo and offers a hot towel and hand massage. Yes please. I was then taken back to her station for my mini keratin. She did a wonderful job with my hair and made sure to explain after care, information $75 it was a great deal. I tipped her $20 since she did the double washes and mini massages. She certainly earned it. The front desk when I arrived was nice and offered me a drink. They also were delightful when I left. Only other minus was no internet In a salon that loves to have you book online. Nice place and wonderful service. I'm not local but If here again I would make the drive here again. I'm in tone at the Conrad and this was the only salon that offered mini keratin that usually lasts four weeks. Lindsay at desk just a sweetheart. Hannah wonderful stylist. Go and get this service. Mackenzie is amazing. My hair color needed help. She totally took the time to listen to me. I talked, she listened and verified what I was telling her. I appreciate that she told me what she could and couldn't do on the first visit. (Fixing bad color is a process, not magic)That being said, she totally nailed it. This place is like the Lexus of hair salons in Indy: the price will raise eyebrows, but the results are absolutely worth it. My stylist, Kerissa, was a miracle worker. She transformed a botched, incomplete "balayage" with horrible layers to a beautiful ombre worthy of Pinterest! Kerissa unafraid to push my hair to get the results I wanted and went the extra mile to make my hair goals a reality, even if it took her more work/time. I came in nearly in tears because my hair was so gross and I hated wearing it down; I have not stopped smiling in the two days since I walked out of the salon. As someone who has struggled to find the right stylist for my thick, wavy, coarse hair my entire life, I can easily say that this was the best salon experience I've had. Ever. The salon itself was also a treat--calm, well decorated and very clean. The shampoo room blew me away; it's more worthy of a spa resort than a hair salon in the middle of Indiana. Did I mention how much I love my hair!? It's totally worth all of the "omg" texts my boyfriend sent me when he looked at our bank account. P.S. Try the olaplex treatment! read more

I really wanted to give this place a shot because the stylists were really kind and I love the products they use but my first experience was not great I paid for a blow out style was charged extra time and I still left with damp hair - they were very accommodating of the mishap and offered me to come in with another stylist and even gave me a complimentary product. My second time there was great no issues. I went a third time and I notice the next morning part of the ends of my hair fried in one spot- looked like they were taken to a flame. I went into the salon literally crying showing them in person what happened. Finally get a call back saying that there was color left on my hair from my stylist and that was the culprit of my hair being compromised and it was nothing they did. I likely had color in between my wefts since there is a lot of hair there but my stylist confirmed that there was no way color left on would damage my ends in that way and it was likely they used heat on damp hair which wouldn't be the first time they've done that. I only had hair color applied to the roots of my head? I tried to love this place but I believe she's right the ends of my hair is not the result of left on color as there was no color placed there.. and now my natural hair is left severely damaged. read more

Worst experience EVER!!! TOTAL RIP OFF Had my roots "touched up" was quoted $100, then I was charged for EXTRA COLOR? and they charged $45 to blow dry my hair or I could have left with a wet head in middle of winter. This was a first to be charged to blow dry my hair after a service $100 quote turned into a $265 bill!!!!! for a root touch up! They are so pushy to make future appts. I felt uncomfortable so I made a few and then called and cancelled them all, well whomever answered my call did not cancel all the appts and the next thing I know I got charged with a $67.00 missed appt fee on my credit card. I never heard or signed any agreement to allow them to do this. Luckily my bank reversed the charges and called it fraud! I only wish I would have seen all these other reviews before I had to learn the hard way! STAY AWAY FROM THIS SALON you will thank me for it. read more

My stylist was Elle. The consultation I had was on a Monday and then I set an appointment for the following Thursday. I needed to have my hair fixed after a disastrous outcome from a different stylist at a different salon. It was bad. My hair had been bleached and damaged with hints of pink and purple in it and even brassy green around the straw colored parts. Elle and another nice lady looked at my ruin of hair and determined what needed to be done to save it. It definitely needed saving. I felt the consultation was great, with a really deep look into every aspect of what was done to what can be done to what will be done. I was incredibly happy with the whole thing and felt satisfied with both the professionalism and the honesty. I set an appointment for the following Thursday and from the time I set foot into the place I felt taken care of. I was asked if I wanted anything to drink, if they could take and hang up my coat if I needed anything. Then Elle came and I realized I was in capable hands. She really did her homework and had ideas for my hair.. I mean she actually did some research before I ever came in. We chose a gorgeous wine"esque" color for the ends and a deep, chocolaty color for the roots and the top gradient. She was a true chemist and came up with 4 concoctions of color that perfectly took to my hair. I was pampered, massaged, taken into a wash room that calmed the senses with cool lighting, amazing stone work on the walls and a deep soft background ambiance song reminiscent of the Asian countryside. Everything she used on my hair smelled heavenly and I came out of there with a permanent smile on my face and a feeling of such deep relaxation that I can not remember the last time I felt so relaxed and good. She consulted with me every step of the way, describing what she had in mind, then what she was doing and always following a pre-designed plan. Nothing was left to chance. At the beginning she even consulted with the salon owner as to the best steps and what he thought of the colors she chose. The entire process was amazing and any sort of hesitancy I had about the costs of this service dissipated by the time It was all over with. I realized that I needed this in my life and I would be coming back here to get pampered and looked after again in the near future. If all salon experiences were like this there would be no need for Yelp.. they would all be 5 star bombshells, just like Elle, just like G Michael salon. The standard of quality is amazing here, the bar is set pretty darned high. I highly recommend not only this salon to anyone and everyone but I would especially recommend Elle for her friendly, bubbly company, her obvious skills at everything hair related and her expert chemistry ability. After an extensive discussion on how she wanted her hair cut, they cut all my mother's hair off. She went in there explaining the front could be by her chin and back just a little off her shoulders *at most*. She came out with the entire back of her neck exposed. My mom did not feel comfortable confronting her stylist about it, as she felt horrible after the stylist talked to her about how her husband had recently passed away, but my mom did say she'd have to think on it when asked if she liked it. Shortly after my mother left, she called the salon to tell them all her hair was gone and it was nothing like they had discussed. They told her to come in and they would fix it. My mom said there is no hair left to fix, but she agreed to come in on a day the stylist who did her hair wasn't there. She didnt want to confront her after knowing so much about her personal life (highly unprofessional of the stylist). My mom went in for a second appt and they told her there was nothing they could do. They offered her to come back in the future for a cut, but obviously the trust was broken and she is upset that her hair is gone, especially as she heads into a new job. They also had the original stylist confront her, which was already explained would be uncomfortable, understandably. My mother called me crying. She explained that they almost laughed at her, were not apologetic, and clearly did not care what the customer wanted. Not before cutting or after. She is 62 and spent years growing her hair out and $60 losing it all. I couldn't believe they wouldn't refund the money (apparently this is on their website- No Refunds). I called and the manager was rude. At one point she said my mother came in asking for a certain haircut that did not need to be styled (she does not "do up" her hair) and that that was unrealistic. ............Soooo they cut her hair anyway. In whatever style they wanted that was completely different than she explained at lengths to the stylist. I told the manager, "so you guys knew it was something you couldn't do, cut it anyway in a totally different style, and took her money? Why didn't you tell her you couldn't do what she wanted?" This is the level of customer service my 62 year old mother was given. She asked that I share this unfairness. After investigating this company a bit, I wouldn't recommend spending your money here. read more

Anessa cut my hair today.. She did an amazing job. She cut the exact length off that I asked for and it looks great. The products they used smelled amazing and my hair is so soft. I loved the atmosphere of the salon. It was very clean. The shampoo room is so relaxing and beautiful. I felt it was very reasonably priced, even though I had a groupon, I'd gladly pay the full price. So glad I found this place. I will be back! read more

Decided I needed to share my thoughts on G. Michael Salon. I've been seeing Lauren for two years. I cannot express how special she makes me feel when I'm there. We have hit our stride and she knows my hair and she knows me. We've also just hit on a PERFECT hi-lite and low-lite combination that is out-of-this-world! I book my appointments about six months out as I cannot stand to miss "my" time at G. Michael. This salon is TOP NOTCH and I enjoy each person I come in contact with when I visit. Greg & Joe are amazing owners and they each make me feel like a good friend when I come in. The front desk staff is always accommodating and quite special. I don't plan to change salons anytime soon. I'll continue with Lauren and G. Michael for many, many years to come! read more

First off .. I am extremely picky about my hair. I moved here from the west coast where there are a lot of really talented stylist. After 10 years of searching in Indy for the right stylist . I finally found my forever stylist Greg ! My mom sees him as well. Greg is extremely talented, passionate and professional. It shows in his work! The salon is warm and inviting. Staff is friendly and personable. I see some of the other reviewers complain about scheduling... Neither myself nor my mother have ever had a problem scheduling an appointment when we wanted one. We both are scheduled out through 2016. But TBH I would be leary of a stylist I could get into right away... Go see Greg he's worth the wait and the price! read more

They are amazing at what they do at the salon; however the prices are outrageous. They charged me $265 BEFORE tip for a touch up on my balayage. They said I needed get a $50 hair treatment so my hair wouldn't break. You have to pay it so that's how they trap you. I think there are plenty other places to get your hair done with the same results. read more

I have long hair and really want to keep it that way and she does a lot of long hair - I thought I would have to get a lot cut off but nope she worked her magic and listened to everything I said. I have been going to the same stylist (would rather not mention names) for about 5 cuts now and had no problems. My most recent visit was not so great. Because the previous cut had grown out so well, I waited for over 3 months to return. I was looking for the same cut, just trimmed and shaped up. What I got was a mess with weird, disconnected layers, all around uneven and my long side-swept bangs were now short and straight across. Not even close to the cuts I had in the past. I made a follow up appointment for a re cut. I asked if i could have another stylist since my first cut was so "off", I was concerned for the second go around. They said NO. (I felt like I shouldn't have to pay again, so I went to the same gal) When i arrived I asked the owner for his input. This cut was better, but still not right. No one made an attempt to check in with me afterwards to see if I was satisfied. Overall the salon is very nice. It has a good atmosphere and everyone seems professional. My disappointment lies in the fact that no one followed up AND I ran into the receptionist out and about and told him the story. He basically said they cut Vidal Sasson style (I went there for many years in Chicago) and ALL stylists cut the same ( I mentioned trying someone else). I am sure if you lined up 5 stylists doing the same cut, they would all have slight variations! He suggested I try another salon since she is "an amazing stylist". I am not saying she isn't, I am saying that the style was not like it was before, it was not what I suggested, and it is not what I wanted....and it isn't a good cut...long uneven pieces here and there, mismatched layers. I feel they have a superior attitude that it is the customers fault for not properly conveying your requests...I WANTED THE SAME CUT AS BEFORE... not that maybe a stylist had a bad day or a bad cut, etc. and we will do our best to fix it, but we are all so wonderful and can't make a mistake. Please go somewhere else if you are not satisfied. Since they never have any customers return because they are not happy with the service, I guess it is just me. read more

This by far is the most unprofessional salon I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. My Issue is that on Saturday the day after the snow/ice storm they closed without even contacting everyone to let them know no email,text,or Facebook post.... I was pissed then but now I am infuriated. I called and politely spoke to an associate. She then took "notes" from my call and shortly got a call from a "manager". I hope to God this person is truly not a manager. He was an absolutely rude person and that is putting it lightly.He accused me of playing games. I asked who had called me and I will prove that number called my phone. He refused to give me a number to check. He was not willing to apologize for this huge inconvenience. I know for a fact I was not the only person who was screwed that day. This salon is unreliable,unorganized, and on top of that can't and won't treat the customer with respect. I can't believe this salon is even considered a quality salon! Disgusted! Do yourself a favor and retrain your management staff. I would give this salon a negative zero. read more

How have I not reviewed this place?! Being new in town, I had tried a couple of salons but not been thrilled with the results. I noticed someone at work who consistently has great hair, and this salon was on her list of recommendations. So glad I asked! First, the ladies at the front desk always greet people as soon as they walk in the door, get folks checked in, and get everyone a beverage. It makes for a very welcoming and comfortable start. The space itself is also wonderful and fun to be in. I have seen Lauren on both of my visits here for a cut and style. The shampoo room is also a separate space with a very relaxing and quiet vibe. Lauren took her time with the cut, and was very thorough. She is also hilarious and really fun to talk with during the process, and gave me lots of great restaurant/bar suggestions to check out while getting to know the area. She gave me great info about the products she was using (Oribe) but didn't pressure me to buy. The cut itself is not cheap but well worth the price to me. I found while looking at this salon that several stylists have less than a year experience. I am not counting beauty school. I think they should be forthcoming with this information. I can't rate it, since I've never been there. read more
