First time here. I was at a nearby store and was in the mood for BBQ. Friendly staff, fast service. I got an order of 10 wings, half G-Que dry rub & the daily special Caribbean jerk with a side of pit-smoked beans. I was expecting the wings to be more meatier & juicier. I did like the flavor of the dry rub. The beans were okay. G-Que also serves ice cream. I tried the salted caramel Oreo & banana pudding. They were both okay. This was the last stop on our Denver adventure after being in town for the Dodgers game. Best food we had during our trip hands down. The star of the show is the smoked meats. The brisket, wings, and ribs were all top notch. The sauces were all on point. The customer service is AMAZING. The staff if very attentive and helpful, and checked on us alot. Its a nice, clean establishment, and they even have an ice cream shop inside the restaurant. I have to keep it real though, the sides were just ok. The baked beans were OK, the garlic mashed potatoes were OK, but I would not recommend the mac n cheese at all. I don't take my mac n cheese lightly, especially since I make killer mac. This wasnt much better than Kraft. Still, this is definitely a 5 star joint. 1 recommendation i would make, put what meats come with the family platter. I'm originally from Oklahoma, so I mainly grew up on Texas-style BBQ so I was really excited to see what GQue was all about. GQue is nestled in Belmar, Lakewood in a very walkable area. There is paid street parking around the front and side, but I would recommend using the parking lot behind where the DSW and Hobby Lobby are. Indoor seating is plentiful and there is also outdoor patio seating for when the weather is nice. They don't offer plates so ordering is more à la carte style. The staff was super nice and explained everything, even certain events and discounts with local sports teams! I asked if it was more Texas, Kansas City, Atlanta style and he said "Nah this is Colorado style!!" I went with my usual order of pork ribs (I started with just 3) and 1/4lb sliced brisket, with sides of garlic mashed potatoes and pit smoked beans. The ribs are a must. They fell off the bone and had this nice carmelization on the outside that gave just the right amount of sweetness. As for the sliced brisket, I like mine to have a little fat on them and this serving don't have much (I did a to-go order a few days later and the brisket was PERFECT for that order). They have 3 sauces on the table: Original Sweet & Savory, Hottish, and Gold Zesty mustard. Hottish was the one for me, and don't worry it doesn't have much of a kick to it but less sweet than the original. The zesty mustard just wasn't my style. If you're a garlic person, you'll want to grab the mashed potatoes, and they have some skin left on the so it was so delicious. The pit fried beans were alright, and that might just be a Me thing due to texture...they seemed a little dry but you should definitely try them out!!! Tried GQue for the first time at their Lakewood location! Good BBQ in Colorado is rare and GQue is definitely a solid option! Restaurant is order at the counter, fast casual style. My partner and I tried the brisket sandwich, turkey sandwich, and a side of beans. I really enjoyed the flavor and moistness of the turkey and trying all the BBQ sauces! If you can make turkey taste that good, you're doing something right! My favorite sauce was the original but they all had their place! Staff were attentive and kept the restaurant clean. Holy delicious Thanksgiving. We had ours early and took advantage of their pickup service. The staff was very friendly and had me in and out the door with no wait. I've never tried their smoked turkey before but it is the best I've ever had. I may not choose it over their brisket in the future but it's wonderful for the holiday! My experience here was so unexpectedly wonderful. I came in for a midday snack on a Sunday and opted to try the wings of the week, maple bourbon dry rub, and a side of seasoned fries. I was blown away. The dry rub was perfectly crispy and juicy, with the maple and bourbon flavors really shining through, and the clear superiority of the smoked wings shining. The fries were also delicious, I got five wings and the fries for only $13, and it filled me up perfectly. The staff was also so friendly, with multiple people coming to check on me during my meal and making sure we had everything we needed I come to Belmar all the time, but this little gem was hiding in the back, in such a cute corner building with lots of natural light and a fun decor. Everything was also very clean and sanitary, which can be hard when places share communal squeeze bottle sauces like this one does. Kudos. The ribs had a nice bite to them and they also had a rich, savory bark that really stood out. Sausage had a great snap and seasoning. The jalapeño wasn't too much heat at all. The mac and cheese was creamy, satisfying, and uniquely flavored. I destroyed it. Easily the perfect side. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, and the staff was friendly and efficient. I appreciated how everything was clearly marked on the menu, making it easy to order even for a first timer. Their "'til it's gone" policy is no joke, especially if you're planning to come later in the day, be prepared that some items might sell out. Absolutely no smoked flavor to my pork sandwich, just some seasoning sprinkled atop the meat on a PLAIN bun. Good bbq shouldn't have to be smothered w sauce to have flavor. Friend had brisket, minimal smoke ring, not much flavor at all either. Smoked meat should be able to stand alone w its flavor, both pork and brisket were AWFUL. Finally I Found It! It's no secret that I like pulled-pork sandwiches and also no secret that about 99% of them disappoint me. Usually they are fatty and the ones that aren't have meat that's unrecognizable. I've only been to one restaurant that had large chunks of tender, quality smoked pork with no fat and that was in Illinois. Once I moved to Colorado I started my search all over again to find a similar dining experience. It wasn't until today that I found a barbecue restaurant that equaled the quality I'd found in Illinois. G-Que's pulled-pork was perfect. It was surprisingly great! We didn't quite know what to expect. I don't really think of great restaurants when I think chains, but this was very very good. Pulled pork was flavorful and moist, but not soggy. The slaw doesn't have mayo which I loved about the slaw. It was tangy and subtly sweet from the tart green apples, and the vinegar gave it a nice cutting sourness to help with the rich smokiness of the meats. The wings were outstanding! Some of the best we've had in a long time! Get the wings! Also, the baby back pork ribs were the perfect texture--tender, but with a bite to them still. Sometimes fall off the bone ribs are not the right consistency. These were, and you could see the pink smoke ring round the edge of the ribs. Delicious. The one and only thing that fell very very short of our expectations was the beef brisket. It was super dry. Some parts were completely inedible because there were harder than jerky. The manager came to our table and asked how everything was. We explained it was awesome except the brisket. He fixed it by asking what we'd like as a replacement. Great customer service. The Mac and cheese was also to die for! I'm fairly certain they put the cheese sauce over noodles made to order instead of having a big vat of mac and cheese premade because their noodles were still in tact and had a nice firm texture instead of mush! Extremely disappointed and now I'm broke all thanks to GQ bbq. Group of us went here, we all got brisket, turkey, pork, sausage, and the ribs. In fairness to GQ, the pulled pork & sausage was good, But the brisket was all mush, no bark, no flavor. I suspected it was left over from the other day and they chopped it up like cat food, splashed moisture on it, and put it on my plate. Even tho I requested sliced. Turkey was extremely dry, no texture, just crumbles, no flavor. It was just taking up space on the plate. Boring. ribs were way mushy.... The sides, the beans again was just mush. Looked like a bean soup puree and very sweet. Mash potatoes was average... but I suspected these were boil from a bag potatoes? I could be wrong, but that's what it reminded of Mac and cheese was decent. what we paid per person for what we ordered was what you'd prob pay for TWO people at any other place. Bottom line, we all know good bbq isn't cheap, but this place couldn't meet the expectations of what they are asking for the price point. My experience was disappointing, and expensive. I won't go there again. And it's a head scratcher cause this place gets great reviews and is highly rated. Could be the day I went they were off, but you got my money. The service was nice. The first time user experience at GQue bbq can be quite entertaining to see in the following way: bite #1 and 2 shocks the person into internalizing something similar to "is this actually THAT good?!" while the rest of the meal confirms the diner has finally experienced the BEST bbq they have ever tried. I have had numerous conversations with people whose mood and friendliness shoots through the roof at having discovered it for themselves. This is the outstanding position GQ has established, and I dare anyone to try GQ out and not think it's the best they've ever had. I've eaten at 4 separate GQ locations and all of them deliver the absolute best brisket around.
