My son and I stumbled across Bob's Atomic Burgers online while looking for somewhere to meet up for lunch, and I'm glad we did. It's located in Golden, Colorado, right across the street from the world-famous Coors Brewery, so the setting is already pretty cool and scenic. Bob's Atomic Burgers has a great neighborhood-joint feel: small, cozy, clean, and eclectic, with interesting stuff on the walls and a fun local vibe. When we walked in, there was a table near the door with order sleeves and paper forms where you build your burger by choosing the meat, bun, cheese, free toppings, and extra toppings. They have a really good selection. I went with a single beef patty on a white bun with American cheese, pickles, raw jalapeños, tomatoes, green chiles, banana peppers, and a large fry. We turned in our order sleeves at the counter and ordered fountain drinks. When we mentioned it was our first visit, the staff gave us a very warm welcome. The young lady behind the counter explained a little about the place and how the ordering process worked, which was much appreciated. The burgers are made to order, so we waited about 10-15 minutes. Honestly, that worked out perfectly because indoor seating is limited, and during the wait we were able to grab a table. They also have outdoor seating, though it was raining when we visited. When the burgers came out, they looked amazing. I'd describe them as a cross between a smash burger and a traditional patty, and I really liked that. My burger was delicious, juicy, flavorful, and messy in the best possible way. The large fries came in the usual paper sleeve, but it was absolutely overflowing, and the fries were hot, fresh, cooked to order, and excellent. This was honestly one of the best burgers I've ever had. Great food, friendly staff, cool atmosphere, and a local feel that big chains just can't touch. From outside, this place does NOT look like somewhere that would have good food. My friend who lives in the Denver area suggested it and I was a little hesitant. When we got there, it was very busy with all the outdoor seating taken and a line out the door. Before getting to the cashier, you fill out a sleeve depending on what you want (burger, hot dog, or chicken sandwich). I got a burger, so I had to mark off what bun, toppings, and extras I wanted. At the cashier, you give them your sleeve and order any sides or drinks that you want. They then give you a random name for your order (I got Leatherface). When the order is done, they announce the funny name and bring the food to you. The burger was juicy and filling. I also shared fries and onion rings, which were both good as well. Why does anyone wait? The wait is worth it. Bob's prides themselves on simple ingredients, cooked to order every time, and nothing prepped in a hurry. Your patience will pay off. And no, you won't be waiting any longer than you would anywhere else. My burger was huge. That's my fault, though, as I choose more than a few yummy toppings. I could barely hold it in my hand. Bob's burgers is popular. Parking sucks. Expect to wait to place an order, sit down (or to go), and get food. Probably a good 20 minutes from start to finish. You get a sleeve/paper and you design your burger (or hot dog) to your liking with buns, protein, toppings etc + add fries or something else if you'd like. Burgers are about $10 and go up depending on how many toppings you get. Turn in your sleeve for the food at the cashier and sit down and wait for the food. It's cute, you'll understand.
