I had a lot of fun at the Ft. Lauderdale Day of the Dead Festival in Ft. Lauderdale but I couldn't deal with the crowds at the food trucks. I was craving a burrito but I was also really tired. I looked on Yelp to see if maybe there was someplace I could go close to home for takeout and La Rural popped up less than a mile from where I live! They just opened and even though I shop in this plaza all the time I didn't notice them at this end. La Rural Mexican Grill is a small chain of fast, casual service restaurants. They have one in Weston and are working on opening one in Davie, They focus on serving healthy and tasty burritos, salads, bowls, nachos, tacos, and quesadillas made with fresh produce, and locally sourced ingredients. You pick a protein, chicken. steak, ground beef, or tofu and add your rice beans, vegetables, and sauces. Everything is customizable and can be made vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free. I thought the prices were very reasonable. You can easily take your meal to go but they had a number of tables to eat at inside the spotless restaurant. For my meal I had one of their monster sized steak burritos made just the way I like it. Every ingredient was perfectly seasoned. The steak was very tender. One of my pet peeves is when you get hard rice in your burrito and everything here was so fresh and tasty. I also ordered a bag of their delicious chips with a side of queso. With everything I ordered I could only finish half of the burrito, it was that big I am so happy they opened in my hood. I work two jobs and some nights I am so wiped out and famished and this is going to be a life saver. We didn't have anything like this in South Creek. The owners were on hand and were so nice. I hope everyone comes out and supports them. The staff at my school is always looking for a quick meal and I am going to pass this place om to them. I love it that much. Been to this place 3 times already I'm so obsessed with their tacos and I love how you can build it your own way! The place is super clean! The stuff is super friendly and the service is quick and amazing! I 100% recommend this place to any who loves tacos. They also have kids menu. The food was okay, I like that they have Tofu as an option. Our server was kind enough to ask if I wanted a fresher batch of tofu because the one that was there was obviously old. The other server and what appeared to be a manager or owner would benefit from improved customer service skills. Starting by leading by example and greeting your customers as opposed to what we witnessed which was the manager/owner accusing teens of having alcohol in a jug while he quietly waited for his friend to arrive before ordering their food. I would understand if she had just said there's a no outside food/drink policy and left it at that but she didn't say that. I am so happy that this cute little Mexican place opened up a mile from my home. Leaving the gym and saw that this place had just opened up so I decided to stop in and check it out, so happy that I did. Great service and excellent food. I had three hard ground beef tacos that were excellent, they have a very good variety of toppings. I also had the chips and queso which was very good. My husband had a delicious chicken burrito that he loved, and my husband is very picky. I will definitely recommend this place and come back! Highly recommend! read more

The La Rural Mexican Grill in Coconut Creek, from the same folks that brought you La Rural Argentinian Steakhouse in Weston (and with a previous attempt in Parkland). The pilot location is also in Weston; this is their second store. It's a carbon copy of Chipotle, with the typical choose your bowl/burrito/taco/quesadilla, pick your protein (chicken, veg, Tofu, Steak, Pork Carnitas) and pick your toppings QSR formula. Qualitatively I would have to say it is closer to what Chipotle was when it first opened, and the smaller scale of the operation makes the food less institutional. They claim to buy from local suppliers; I don't know if that translates necessarily to a better product. It's decent for what it is, an $11 steak bowl. I'm not sure if I would go as far as to call it "Mexican," as this is highly derivative Tex-Mex made by an Argentinian-owned company. I wouldn't necessarily travel for it, it's a sleepy shopping plaza with not much else around there, but if you worked in this area, it wouldn't be a bad lunch choice. read more

I was recommended this restaurant by someone who read one of my reviews. Open only 10 days, they have yet to have their grand opening. Keep your eyes posted. The food here is fresh made right down to the pinto beans. No canned items here. I ordered a "build-it-as-you-like monster burrito which, quite frankly, I thought they would never get rolled up. Food is soooo good. This is my first time trying them and I ordered them through UberEats. I got 3 tacos: Beef, Chicken, and Steak. With chips and Queso. And let me tell youuuuu! Super delicious. This restaurant may present a Chipotle-style setting, but the food that is produced is more along the lines of Taco Bell. My hubby thought it was disgusting. Soggy food. Soggy nachos. Meat was chewy. Carnitas were gamey. We had high hopes for this place, as it's a small business in a "small town" atmosphere that is within the Coconut Creek Parkway corridor. It's a chipotle type of style restaurant, but I would say Chipotle's food is of better quality. I ordered a quesadilla and steak bowl but the steak was definitely bad. I even started feeling sick afterwards. Not sure if the meat was left out thawing for too long. The steak had a bitter unsettling taste that is still on my mouth. This place has good food, but after paying $50 plus dollars for 9 tacos, the meat was refrigerator cold and had very few ingredients on each one. There was practically no meat in it. Meh, it was a second-rate Chipotle wanna-be. The chicken was those pre-formed "chicken" stips you find with those Tyson frozen bags. It is clear they don't actually grill anything but simply heat frozen premade meat. If hungry, and no Chipotle is close, it will do, but it won't be your go to destination for faux Mexican food.
