They also sell local zines, which I think is awesome. If you make a zine, you can contact them to see about selling them in the store. The front table has free bookmarks, handouts, community announcements, etc., and the person at the register let me put some of my zines on the table for people to take for free. All in all, a cute spot, and one I'd visit regularly if I lived in town.

Information specific to the book / this event: The Ireichō is a book listing every person of Japanese ancestry incarcerated in the World War II camps. The Ireichō is currently making its way across various stops in the US, allowing family members and those that knew the incarcerated to stamp their loved ones names as a way to honor them and what they endured and their strength. After the tour, the book will be gifted to the Japanese American National Museum (in LA). The stamping of the Ireichō occurred inside the main entrance of the museum, and the museum graciously allowed those stamping the book to tour the rest of the museum. Museum staff and the staff hosting the event were very welcoming. The museum itself has both long-term and short-term exhibits, listed on their website. It's fitting that they currently have a temporary exhibit at this time called, "Kokoro: The Story of Sacramento's Lost Japantown", from December 20, 2025 to March 29, 2026. If you're interested in some of CA's history, it makes for a nice stop. It is Downtown Sac, so it's all paid street parking or lots in the vicinity. There is a lot right across the street.

Don't come here!! My boyfriend was racial profiled to the maximum degree. Before entering the store there was a tall white gentleman who was walking opposite of us. As he saw us enter the store he immediately turned around and cane in after us. Upon us entering he hovered over us. My boyfriend then asked if there was a problem. The guys said " no, I work here" my bf then said " great, can you help me". He then refused to help us because " he was watching the front" but who was watching the front when you walked outside. Right. We then went to the back to look at items. We picked up an item which was SNATCHED from his hands. The guy in the front proceeded to pick the phone like he was calling the police. A young Black man was standing in line, waiting his turn. The clerk, Chris (he loudly identified himself by name during the confrontation), told him to step aside because he was going to help the customer behind him first. The man looked confused and made a facial expression questioning why, but he didn't say a word. When it was finally his turn, he asked for his drink. Chris immediately responded, "Why are you giving me a hard time?" even though the customer hadn't argued or said anything. Chris then asked for his ID, adding that he "didn't have time" because "the cops were just in there." As the customer reached into his sock to retrieve his ID, Chris repeatedly said, "If you don't have it, I can't serve you." The customer placed his ID on the counter without saying anything. Chris then repeated, "I don't know why you're giving me a hard time." Throughout this entire interaction, the customer remained quiet and never became confrontational. My friend, who was next in line, calmly told Chris there was no reason to be so aggressive because the customer hadn't given him a hard time. Chris replied, "I work downtown. I have to be." I then pointed out that the customer had simply been getting his ID while Chris continued escalating the situation. I added, "You get the energy you give." Chris responded by saying, "It's always you people," and then began shouting at us across the store. When we told him that statement was racist and completely inappropriate, he became even more upset. At that point, I told him I no longer wished to purchase anything from the store. As we were leaving, the customer thanked us for standing up for him. No one deserves to be treated with that level of disrespect, especially when they had done nothing to provoke it. What was equally disappointing was that none of Chris's coworkers attempted to de-escalate the situation, correct his behavior, or apologize while he continued yelling across the store. Whether this behavior reflects Chris alone or the standards of this business, it was completely unacceptable. Customers should be treated with professionalism and basic respect. Based on what I witnessed, I will not be returning.
