Had my hair cut and colored by Kevin Gallagher. My situation was challenging. I had a lot of grey hair and the grey was clashing with my red-brown hair. I didn't want to cover the grey up because I felt it looked pretty. So Kevin ended up accentuating the grey and coloring over the red-brown hair with a beautiful cool brown/black. The end result looks stunning and natural with my face framed by silver hair which blends in harmoniously with the brown/black. I enthusiastically recommend this Salon, both Kevin and Matt are experienced and off the charts highly skilled stylists. I have thick, part curly frizzy & greying hair. I've been to at least a hundred salons on the east and west coasts so when I find a place that has this level of talent, I believe I should share my experiences with others. My hair has been challenging to many stylists, I've had my fair share of awful cuts and coloring, and Matt was able to turn an absolutely horrific cut where I looked like I took garden shears to hack off random pieces of hair in the dark -- I wish I was exaggerating the horror but I'm downplaying it. I left with an adorable style that I would have picked had I thought my hair would cooperate, it did! and I have a cool summer cut. I will also be doing a Brazilian blow out ( one of Kevin's specialties) This will be the cherry on top of my cut and beautiful balayage. I recently saw Kevin for my first Brazilian Blowout. He was meticulous; I went in with frizzy curls and walked out with smooth straight hair. I have never been able to wear my hair down because it took an hour to dry and was frizzy and huge within an hour, now it takes ten minutes and looks amazing for days. Kevin is a hair GOD! I had very thick, curly hair and I wanted it straight. I did my research to make sure I knew what I was doing. Even after all the research, I was still a little afraid. But I should not have been. Kevin took care of me like no hair stylist has done it before. We agreed to do the Japanese Thermal Straightening and the Brazilian blowout together because of my hair type. The process is long and expensive, but I would do it ALL OVER again. Gina is awful! I had a terrible terrible experience with the keratin treatment she did on my hair. I was 30 minutes late for my appointment due to bad traffic and had told her ahead of time and out of respect I skipped the color service and only opted for the treatment so I wouldn't keep her for longer than she had initially planned. She kept complaining when I got there saying my hair was too thick and she wasn't planning on spending so much time on me as she had to go for the other job. What the hell?!??!!! That should've been my first cue!! Nevertheless, I ended up doing the treatment only for it to wash away in less than 3 days. She also kept cutting my bangs the wrong way and would not listen. when I called in 3 days about the quality of my hair, she started yelling at me saying my hair is "not magically" going to get perfect. I mean, excuse me???!!????? I have never regretted paying so much money for such shitty work!!! For the price she charges and the minimal quality of her work, the least she could have is a decent sense of customer service. But she doesn't!! The owner of this salon did not even bother to respond to my calls or my emails!!! Save your money and save your dignity and AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!! read more

Edit 6/26/16: The owner, Kevin, called me after I posted this review to let me know how sorry he was that this happened, that he had never received my email, and all the stylists are self employed, renting space from him. He did offer to give me another treatment, which I declined because my hair is finally returning to normal, 2 months post treatment. Original review: The smoothing treatment by Gina ruined my hair. I purchased the Groupon with Gina after I called to make sure it would work for my fine hair that gets frizzy in humidity. She assured me it would and told me to do my color first. The smoothing treatment stripped the color from my hair, made my hair limp and greasy looking so that I had to start washing it daily, and gave me a ton of split ends. I contacted Gina who flat out refused to do anything to try to help me. She didn't even want me to send her pictures of my hair. She even suggested that I try to get a refund from Groupon, for a service that she rendered. I also sent an email to the salon owner, but he neglected to respond at all. I contacted the manufacturer of the solution, Keratherapy, who have been great, sent me free products to try try and make up for it. The manufacturer said that #1 based on my before pic they wouldn't have recommended the treatment for my texture of hair at all, and #2 the color was stripped because the iron was either too hot for my texture or she made too many passes with it. They have been trying to contact Gina to discuss what went wrong, but that has come to nothing. I understand that things happen sometimes with chemical treatments, but the lack of customer service that I received from this salon in beautiful downtown Portland was appalling. read more

I just had my hair cut by Carla, today...I navigated through the online booking system (which is very easy to use), but couldn't find an availability until Thursday, so I figured I'd call to see if it was possible to get squeezed in for a same-day. She was so friendly and carefully listened to my hair concerns (I have a massive amount of stick-straight hair) and I asked for her suggestions. She offered a great solution to the cutting technique so that I could avoid looking like a blunt kabuki brush...She agreed with me that layers wouldn't be the best option as I rarely have the time to sit and put some waves/texture on the ends (otherwise, I end up looking like a shaggy mess). If you have ever even thought about getting your hair permanently straightened Kevin is the man to see. First off getting my hair permanently straightened was the best investment I could have made, it is costly but it is worth every penny. I can now wake up in the morning, shower and do nothing to my hair and it will still look amazing. This is the best feeling, its low maintenance, always looks good and keeps hair healthy. I naturally have wavy hair but it is unruly and often times frizzy and unpredictable if left unstyled. My morning routine used to consist of blow drying my hair, and then straightening it- every morning. This was terrible for my hair and took forever. Since getting my hair permanently straightened my whole morning routine takes 30 min! It is worth every penny. Kevin (the owner) is a great stylist but also an awesome person, you can tell he enjoys taking care of his clients and making sure they are satisfied. I was hesitant to invest so much money into my hair but Kevin walked me through the process and did a fabulous job. Pros: -Your hair will be healthier because there is no need for styling tools -Your hair routine will take far less effort -minimizes morning stress -Your hair will consistently be amazingly straight. -You will look damn fine!
