I have been a loyal customer here for a long time, back when the shop was run by a wonderful older lady. Unfortunately, the new management has completely ruined the experience. The man currently running the shop is incredibly aggressive, argumentative, and unprofessional. During my last visit, I was simply trying to explain my grooming preferences to the Sunday groomer. The manager intervened, became extremely hostile, slammed the door in my face, and told me I was no longer welcome. If management is this volatile and aggressive toward human customers, it raises serious concerns about how they handle the animals in their care. I strongly advise pet owners to take their business elsewhere. read more

This owner Don Dalessio owns Gabby's Pets and Astoria Pets. I have been visiting Astoria Pets for years and purchased with them before never had a problem, so I am very disappointed at the result of my story. Astoria Pets closed abruptly after the new law that is in effect as of December 15th. There was no warning and no sign that they were closing this location permanently. This is the problem I have a credit that I have to redeem I go to Mr. Daleesio's other pet shop in the Bronx (Gabby's Pets) after being told to come and to my surprise when I pick out what I want and ready to use my credit the sales guy for that day Anthony calls Don to explain the situation and he claims that Don tells him that he can't take my receipt for credit because it is from Astoria Pets and they are now permanently closed. What kind of joke is that. Anthony doesn't know any of the employees numbers I can't speak to Don he doesnt know when Don's son Keith comes in which he is one of the managers to both pet shops. This is a scam and they are stealing my money. I am so very disappointed and disgusted with this business. I would not give them not even one star, but you know how this works. BTW, I traveled all the way out there on train from Queens with my grandson to pick out a pet as a Christmas present. The guy wanted to give me a hamster for free without cage or food to compensate for my credit worth $90, meanwhile my credit covered all the necessities including a hamster if that was my choice of pet. Not Good! Anyhoo, I would never recommend this place or any place the Dalessio's have because of the way they steal your money. I bought my golden doodle from here in January she was healthy and fine but I brought her back for dog sitting and she came back with all white stuff matted in her fur and blood and everything in her nose they were nice enough to wash and groom her but this is unacceptable NEVER AGAIN. read more

When I dropped off my dog (18lbs) she really needed a haircut, and when I picked her up two hours later MY DOG WAS BLEEDING out of here ear. A few weeks ago, before Christmas, I was looking to get some information on buying a dog. Lynn was there to assist me on every question I could think of and a lot of questions I didn't think of. She reassured me as a first-time pet owner that everything would be ok when I did eventually purchase a dog and that if I were to purchase one from them, they'd be there every step of the way to make sure both the dog and I were adjusting to life together well. My only negative of this place is that it's extremely small and feels a bit dark and cramped. Otherwise, step inside, talk to Lynn, and you'll never have another worry. :-) read more

I recently purchased a toy poodle puppy at Gabby pets were I was under the impression that I was going to be given exceptional service and most importantly a healthy puppy. Unfortunately, that was not the case for me. This store sold me a puppy that had an infection. The first night we brought the puppy home I noticed he had a strange cough and he vomit that night. I immediately took him to get checked out by a vet the following day and the vet gave us a diagnosis of kennel cough which is a highly contagious respiratory infection. The puppy was put immediately on antibiotics. The vet deemed the puppy was unfit for sale and gave us legal paperwork for his profession diagnosis. The following day I went back to the pet shop and complained but the store owner was of no help. He said he doesn't agree with the vet's professional opinion and there was nothing he can do for us. The next day the owner calls me back and says all he can do for me is to give me a new puppy if I returned the one I purchased. My family and I have already grown attached to this puppy so returning him is not an option for us. The owner has been very rude and unprofessional. I do no recommend Gaby Pets to anyone looking to purchase a puppy. They only care about people's money. They have shown us they don't actually care about the well being of these puppies. read more

Its two months later and my puppy is still sick after being on medication and going back and forth to the Vet several times . I called to complain and they told me this was normal. Had a great experience here yesterday. Bought a teddy bear and he is amazing. He is not sick and proof of vaccinations and vet visits were available. The dogs were kept in a very clean enviornment. The staff was very knowledgeable and accommodating. After setting a reasonable price and starter care package my little baby was already clean while I checked him out but he was washed again and groomed free of charge. Thank you Lynn and Jamie for being nothing less than amazing. Before leaving I was given all the basic documentation for my teddy bear and a microchip and a great insurance package deal. Some goodies for my new baby and support numbers if anything was to happen and any questions pertaining to my teddy bear was to come about and a 24 hour care number. The back of the shop has a grooming service which was in very high demand. Many people from the neighborhood dropped their pets off for grooming in the hour that I was there. IF YOU LOVE YOUR PET DO NOT TAKE HIM/HER HERE!! I took my 9 months Morkie puppy to get groomed here. Showed them a picture of what kind of haircut I wanted. After 4 hours of waiting I knew something was going on. I could hear her crying so I demanded to see my dog. When they took me to the back my dog was badly cut with a TERRIBLE AMOUNT OF BLOOD!!! I couldn't believe that was my dog as she looked totally different! They SHAVED HER! (Look at picture of before and after) I kept asking what happened and all the employees but they only say "it was an accident". My dog is my baby. She is part of our family. I was so desperate and upset. There was blood on the walls and I asked if it was my dog's and they just casually said: "oh no that's been there for a while"... I don't know what is worse: that there is blood on the walls or that it could have been my dog's" After I told all the customers waiting for their dogs to take their pets somewhere else the employees threatened to call the police on me! Every time I would walk past this pet shop , it was like I was being pulled in by all the cute puppies they have in the front . I finally decided to go in and take a look and came out with a new member to my family . I purchased a 2 Month old Husky and I've been the happiest ever since . They have such good service and such amazing people that work here . They helped me so much and were very patient with me , answering all my questions and concerns . I 100% encourage those of you who are looking into getting a puppy to pay them a visit . You won't regret it . The staff is all friendly very helpful and very knowledgeable about the puppy's and other animals as well . You can also call them with any questions and they always answer the phone and have no problem in answering your questions . The best part about when you purchase your puppy from here is they will always help you with any concerns that you may have after you leave the store , I have 3 months with my husky and I still call and ask questions and share any concerns I may have and they always help me out .
