My review is purely based on my stylist, Jon Carlos. He has to be one of the most amazing stylists that I have ever worked with and I feel blessed to have finally found someone that is actually helpful and extremely stylish. He can be difficult to book an appointment with which is usually something which will send me packing but its worth the trouble. What I have found to work best is just to set standard appointments at whatever interval I choose for a year. I have also used a variety of people from the spa for various services and have always been happy with my results. The salon itself is often very noisy and front desk staff can be at best less then helpful. I often feel a bit overwhelmed with the amount of activity and noise level as I usually go in on Saturday afternoons. read more

I saw two different hairstylists here and wasn't happy at all. The first time I went for a foil and it was okay but then she gave me a product that wasn't for my hair type and dried my hair out. Then I went in again to try something new going darker and she turned my hair red. I went back to get it fixed and it was still red and awful. Then I just went to the location off of river and I got a foil done, color correction, and haircut. She did my foils too far a part which made my hair streaky. The color correction is fine and the hair cut is good. I need to find a better place that doesn't charge $300 for me to be unhappy. read more

So I have been to Gadabouts on and off for 30 years, hoping that this will be the time my hair is done correctly. No luck. I originally made an appointment with another person but it got handed off to someone else. I went in for a cut and dimensional color, stylist was said to be master, I had pictures of my cut and color so no mistakes would be made. Unfortunately this did not help, I had to leave for Denver the next day, they were closing when I left so I had no time to evaluate the service. When I got home my hair was cut uneven and I was totally bleached out. No dimensional color just one ..yellow white. My family said I looked like a pineapple and the whole thing was a disastrous miss. I spent almost 400.00 and had to fly to Denver looking like a rat. I had to pay someone else to redo the hair in Denver for another $400 , while asking me what happened. I have only been back 2 weeks but have learned that whether it says master or not, whether you have pictures of yourself or not it will probably be a hit or miss. I will never allow Gadabout to touch my hair ever again. Doing so was an $800 mistake and I should have known better. read more

Had an appointment with Rose, Amanda Rose. This was my first time at this location and with this artist. Rose greeted me as I was sitting, she was friendly, prompt and on time. We discussed what my goals were as far as color. I expressed to her that I wanted to be BLONDE. Like really blonde :). She was on board and she got stared. Rose was started conversation and kept it going, all while being super efficient with foiling. Holy foils, I knew I was going to Blonde :). End result, super happy! Exactly what I wanted. She toned me and "broke the base", so no yucky orange tones. Last color was with Isabella at River. She rocks too, just couldn't get in on my days off. Thanks Rose and Gadabout! read more

I have been a client of Marco's for a while now. Words cannot describe how amazing he is! For years, I searched for someone who was able to do my curly, multi-racial hair. I finally found that person in Marco. The first time I sat in his chair, I was so nervous due to previous bad experiences. Marco put me at ease, and it became clear real fast that he knew what he was doing. Almost two years later, I could not be happier. Whether it's a cut, color, blow-out, or soon, box braids, Marco's got me covered. I can honestly say that for the first time in my life, I have a stylist that I trust implicitly. There are only a handful of stylists in Tucson that know ethnic hair, and Marco is definitely one of them. Whether you're natural, relaxed, type 3, or type 4, you're covered. In my many years of curly experience, I've found that stylists who claim that they "specialize" in ethnic or curly hair have a tendency to do things their way, regardless of the clients' wants or needs. Marco is definitely the opposite. While he is realistic in his approach, he also works very hard to make sure that you're getting a style that you want and that you walk out looking and feeling beautiful. The icing on the cake is that he takes his continuing education very seriously, so he's always at the top of his game. As for Gadabout as a salon, I have never met a rude person. The gals at the counter have always been super friendly. The times I've taken my wheelchair bound grandmother for cuts and facials, the staff has always gone above and beyond. The atmosphere in the salon itself is very lively, while the spa is as relaxing as well, a spa. All in all, I recommend Gadabout to anyone who is looking to feel beautiful. Customer experience is #1, and they go out of their way to make sure that they hire qualified stylists who are well trained, and who keep up on their education. The first few times I visited, the hair and color services were good. As time went on, the cuts and color were mostly a miss. From choppy unblended layers and highlights that turned out much lighter than discussed and had to be repeatedly tamed with a gloss, the end results quickly became unsatisfactory for the last 6-7 months. It seems that many of the stylists spend a lot of time chatting with each other and providing inputs on other clients' services versus focusing on the client in front of them. Best I can say is AVERAGE, but pricing is way too high for the service. I have tried this salon twice now. Both times I was extremely disappointed. I paid $85 for a 20 minute haircut that was worth $35. I went home and washed my hair to restyle it. My hair felt like straw, don't know what product was used. I lost my great stylist, Jacob, at Studio Hair Artistry so gave Gadabout another try. Studio was booked and I needed a cut. Luckily, the designer stylist at Gadabout followed my previous cut for the most part so I can at least do something with my hair. I have lived all over the USA and this salon is way overrated. I also found the front desk to be standoffish to rude both times. AND finally, the stylist told me about a disease her next client had...wow...way inappropriate. read more

Made two appointments for a stylist to set our hair. We are attending a Saturday wedding. We received a call late the afternoon before our scheduled appointments. The hair stylist had to cancel. The salon gave us no assistance in arranging with another stylist .... even at their other locations. So at 5p on a Friday night, we are left with no scheduled services. I love the wet lounge area it's dark and relaxing environment while you get a shampooed. Olivia does great eyebrow shaping/waxing, Olga does awesome pedis and Mary is great with the hair! The lobby is not immediately by the entrance. The check-in counter is placed right in front of the doors, the sitting area is a few steps further. There are two big orange circle couches with back rests and two smaller circle couches with no back rests. They have coffee and watermelon water (typical spa cucumber water with a spin) as well as regular water for the less adventurous. Gadabout is separated into two main areas: a loud haircut room and a more quiet "spa" area. The hair area looks like a fancy super cuts, with a sectioned off sink area and a large open room packed with counters for each hair dresser. The difference between this and super cuts are the outfits worn (at Gadabout everyone wears black) and the prices. And hopefully the quality of haircut, but I've never had my hair done here. The "spa" area is separated by doors and the inside is much more peaceful. There is a hallway with rooms off to each side. This is where spa treatments take place. My eyebrows get waxed off monthly in a small room while I lay down and divulge every aspect of my life to Krista, the best Tucson eyebrow wax girl around. I definitely recommend her to anyone who wants to keep their eyebrows. read more

I'm a regular at the River/Campbell location and have had nothing but excellent service, so when I checked in on my phone I was surprised to see the low overall rating of this Gadabout. Then I went inside and realized why they had a lackluster following. Backstory: I'd run out of the facewash I use that I can only find at Gatabout (without having to order online, pay for shipping) and I was between appointments with my esthetician so I figured I'd pick some up at this location since it's right by my office. I also wanted one of the neck pillows they carry- it helps with shoulder pain, as I work in front of a computer all day, and my massage therapist recommended it. So I walked in and the layout just threw me off- the reception area is facing perpendicular to the door, so the receptionists are constantly looking to the left to greet people coming in the door, and when they face forward, they're actually looking out onto the stylists' floor. Weird. The overall ambience of the place is cold and industrial- a lot of bare metal and concrete and it just gives off a cold and uninviting vibe. I explained I just needed to pick up some face wash and went over to the products area to select my skincare stuff and a neck pillow. Then I realized that the reception area was in the MIDDLE of the salon! What the hell? That's so awkward! Anyway, I proceeded back to the reception area and the receptionist had already forgotten who I was! Seriously? I just spoke to you 30 seconds ago. So she asked what service I had done today- um, none. I just needed facewash. She looked so upset and confused and asked me at least two more times if I had an appointment, a service done, whatever. My coming in for no salon service and only buying salon products just really seemed to throw her off her game. I get that it's an unusual transaction, I didn't appreciate feeling like an inconvenience. She didn't offer me a bag, either. That's annoying. I get places trying to go green and all that crap, but if someone's hands are full, they might appreciate some kind of device to carry their merchandise. Oh, and their parking lot sucks. read more

The hair cutters and stylists are wonderful, but the customer service, the young snowflake millennials that have ZERO sense of any manners whatsoever or making the customer feel comfortable, are horrible! I had a wonderful experience with my stylist and was so relaxed and then, bam! I was met with a millennial snowflake (missing a chip) that made me completely tense and upset about payment and the tip. She wanted to force me to download an app to tie to my bank account that I had no interest in, didn't trust. She treated me coldly, ruined my relaxed spa mood, and lost my future reservations! I have been here once before, and got a color and a cut. They did a phenomenal job, I felt like a movie star! However, I just recently tried to make an appointment for the Express Keratin treatment. I requested for an appointment online and was told I would get a call or email back to confirm an appointment. I never received such communication. Then the day before my appointment, I emailed to confirm and the online concierge proceeded to tell me that they didn't have me in their reservation book at all. Very disappointed, I received an email from the Online Concierge asking if I could do next week, and I can't because I'm leaving town. After that, the assistance I was receiving was sub-par. I first met Michael at the Grant location and when he moved to the Sunrise and Kolb location, I followed him without hesitation as Michael does the best color and cuts. If you can't tell, I love Michael as he not only makes my hair look gorgeous as I receive numerous compliments on the color, but he is also a wonderful person. My sister in law hired Gadabout for her wedding in February. Dorene did both my hair & my mom's hair. My mom has really fine short hair but had bought a fake piece to work in with her hair. People couldn't even tell that it wasn't her hair she worked it in so well! For me, I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she did it. The four stars is for this Gadabout as a whole. I find the experience here depends on which staff you get. I want to leave a recommendation for my favorite person at the Speedway location: Linea. I go to her for leg, lip and brow waxing, brow and lash tinting, and massage. I've been to a lot of people at a lot of places, and she's definitely a six-star. Edit 11/1/2012: They have new seating. First time at this salon and I absolutely loved it! The staff here welcomed me with a smile and complimented how cute and well behaved my daughter was :) I love that! My beautician's name was Jayne and she was super friendly and we had a great conversation the entire time that she did my hair. I love that we didn't have that weird awkward silence lol. I explained to her that this is the first time that I was cutting my hair in a few years so I was super nervous. I told her everything that I wanted and guess what? She did EXACTLY that! I've been traumatized by numerous salons which is why I haven't gone back in years. Got an impromptu hair cut while I was visiting the city for a wedding. Let me start by saying, this place is not on the cheap side, by any means. That being said, however, the experience was wonderful and warrants the associated cost. The girl who cut my hair (Mandy or Mandi?) was awesome. Extremely friendly, accommodating and took her time, making sure I was happy with the result. I've been getting pedicures for years at different places. Always going somewhere different as I was never happy with the result. My daughter recommended I sign up to be a model for an intern named RJ. Loved the way she took care of my feet. She actually asked questions about what I wanted, the key is, she listened to what I wanted, liked and disliked. RJ is now located at the Speedway location as a nail tech. I have seen RJ several times in the past several months and couldn't be happier. I would definitely recommend her. read more

Mary at the Speedway location is an absolutely amazing hair stylist! She has been doing my hair for several years now. I have been dark brown all the way to blonde. She has her color technique down to a science and it always turns out wonderful! Katina is my esthetician at the same location and i recommend her for you facials, waxing, or lashes! I am always so relaxed and comfortable when I am on an appointment with her. She is so friendly and educates me on what she is doing and what I should do at home to better my skin health. I have been going to gadabout since 1985. I usually had good results. Today I went in and saw a stylist I have been seeing for a couple years. I walked out today looking like Moe from the three stooges. I asked for angled hair at the front of my face. I got a full set of blunt bangs above my eyebrow. Nothing blends into the surrounding hair. I had to call her back after an intern blew my hair out in a flip to have her recut uneven hair. When I got home I found more uneven cutting. I am 59 years old and I look ridiculous. This stylist knows that in have unruly hair. I will spend the several months battling these bangs until they grow out. read more

I have gone here four times and each time I have left with destroyed hair. I wish I could remember the names of the ladies but I do not. I loathe gadabout. The first time I got a cut and dye job hair, I left with my hair being uneven lengths and the girl did not want to change the hair dye color when I told her she made the wrong color. The second time years later I asked for highlights and I left with four streaks of bleached blonde that looked horrendous. The third time I came to get a hair cut and the girl said she was annoyed because I was making her late for her other client even though I told her on the phone I had very long hair and would need someone who had the time and skills to work with it. she did not style my hair the way I wanted it and made two other girls blow dry my hair who looked upset and ripped out my hair roughly, I had to tell them to stop because they were ruining my hair and they rolled their eyes and walked away. I just got my hair done by Giancarlo and his work is well worth his rave reviews! I've never in my life had such an amazing highlight or cut. He is meticulous and fast and he cut my hair like no stylist ever has! He is truly talented, not to mention very nice and he was following all of the new sanitation protocols! So going to a new salon made me a little anxious - you never know who you're going to get! When I made my appt, the gal recommended Samantha and I could not be happier! She was great with my color and my hair doesn't feel over processed. She suggested color care for my hair and was very genuine the whole way through - from our conversation to her services, Samantha was awesome!! I've been here twice and have had HORRIBLE experiences both times! The first time I came here I was looking to get some face framing layers, which seemed like a reasonable request. The hairdresser was extremely rude and actually asked if I wanted a mullet??! No. I didn't want a mullet, but that's what the hair cut ended up looking like.. It was terrible. The next time I came in I thought I would try it out again and that that hairdresser was having a bad day or something. I came in with medium long white blonde hair that I really liked looking to get a touch up and a cut. I couldn't believe the quality of the service I got here! Marko was extremely rude and short with me when I was trying to explain what I wanted done with my hair. He ended up just toning out the light platinum I had been trying to achieve and was super rough when he was washing my hair. I asked him to stop because it felt like he was breaking my neck! Needless to say he ruined it. I ended up speaking to the manager because I felt like I was actually being mistreated and switched hair dressers for the cut. I wanted a shoulder length style and ended up getting a chin length bob!! WHAT! Needless to say I'm very upset that they cut off all of my hair and ruined my light blonde hair that I likely won't be able to go back to. The service was so unprofessional and everyone I interacted with was rude. I'm slightly traumatized from the whole situation and am left with a dirty blonde bob... what??? I will be returning my business to Aveda where they actually teach hairdressers how to interact professionally with clients and make the experience enjoyable and work with the clients to get their desired look.
